Alec looked around the cage he was in. It was medium in height maybe 3 feet, since he was a small dragon it was enough space. He was a little larger than a kitten in size, all his kind were based on their heritage, while he was kitten sized for dragons it didn't mean they were not dangerous. His dragon family were something to fear.

The annoyance was the chain on his foot grounding him from his magic among other things and the wing clips keeping him from flying forcing his wings to his back with no ability to stretch them or fly. He helped his brother Jace and sister Isabelle get away from the monsters currently holding him at some bizarre warehouse, he had some solace in the thought that his siblings were safe.

It was a damn Shadowhunter, one who clearly didn't respect other beings. There was a warlock as well helping the shadowhunter. Alec had run into shadowhunters who were kind to 'others' but there wasn't many. The downworld had to ban together and it wasn't easy, some factions didn't like each other all that much like werewolves and vampires. Not to mention that some downworlders had their agendas and sided with anyone who would help them achieve their goals. Unfortunately for Alec, a warlock helped this vile shadowhunter capture him. The chain was specially made for dragons as was the wing clips.

He waited in the cage and the warlock would feed him but while he ate, he was softly stripped of his magic for whatever reason, usually taken from his scales. While it didn't hurt, his pride took the hit. He told himself he'd never let anyone do this again to him. Only if he could get out, he held out hope his siblings would come for him but then he decided it was best if they didn't and were safe. He didn't know what was needed but he recognized it was something powerful and he wasn't sure what he could do to stop them.

The shadowhunter didn't care about him at all, he was a trophy to show off at parties and drag him around as if he was a pet. It was humiliating and he hated it and whenever he would 'struggle' for freedom the shadowhunter would pull tighter on the bindings to make him behave. The jerk added a neck collar which was imbued with magic to give the shadowhunter more control. Alec was irritated, he would not only burn this asshole to death, he would smite the entire family. Alec needed freedom first and he was a patient dragon.

Magnus watched his balcony in curiosity. There were two small dragons flying around nearby. They were hovering in his opinion. He had seen a great many things and beings so it didn't surprise him other than being outside his loft. He walked to the doors and decided that making contact would probably be best. He opened the doors, "Hello?" You can't get a dragon to interact unless it wants to, best to let them come to you or so the warlock thought. In his mind, it was easy to reach out to other beings as long as you allowed them to approach.

They were wary but for some odd reason they felt a need via magic to trust this warlock. The dark black dragon landed on the balcony but would fly off the stone from time to time, showing her nervousness. The white-gold dragon was too wary. Both were in duress but had searched for the right being and this was the one. They wanted their brother back, and if it took a warlock, they could live with it, even if it meant showing that dragon beings existence.

The dragons considered the warlock, they had searched and were now in need of someone to help and it wasn't easy for a dragon to ask for assistance but they were out of options. Their brother was hurt and if they could not do the rescue, someone had to step up.

"Hi." Magnus knew the magical beings wouldn't visit him for no reason. He thought it best to wait for the beings to talk to him.

After a few moments of hovering both dragons landed on the stone wall surrounding the outer part of the balcony. It appeared they decided on something and Magnus waited for them. They both uttered together "save our brother."

Magnus didn't understand immediately, all he knew was the dragons wanted something about a brother. "What? Tell me more."

The dark colored dragon answered quickly, "he's in trouble. You've got to help him." The white-ish gold dragon merely agreed with a head shake.

"Who is in trouble?" The warlock wasn't sure what the beings were asking for and you needed to be careful and specific when it came to dragons. If they didn't get exactly what they wanted it could complicate things for the person trying to help.

"Our brother saved us from a shadowhunter and warlock but was caught, now we need to free him." The dark colored dragon stated and then added, "he fought to make sure that Jace and I," she pointed to the other dragon, "could be free."

Jace was peeved, how dare she give his name but before he could state that fact, Izzy continued. "I'm Isabelle Lightwood." She pointed to her lighter colored dragon brother, "he is Jace Wayland, adoptive brother." Isabelle continued their sorted story of how they became a family briefly and ending with, "we need you to get our brother." The eldest Lightwood took care of the family. While it wasn't his job, he was key to their weyr. He let them play while he hunted. His siblings hunted as well but they were given the most freedom of life, whatever they wanted to do was important to him and he indulged.

Magnus was in awe, for one he had not interacted with dragons in centuries and thought them no longer in existence. There was the thought that they survived somehow but they were hidden. "I'll need more than that." The warlock needed the general idea or where the 'Alec Lightwood' dragon would be imprisoned and what sort of magic he would need to deal with.

"WE DON'T KNOW." Jace was angry. He wasn't happy with Alec's sacrifice and it chaffed him because he thought he could have helped. He knew it was ego, he always told Alec he was the best. He was now regretting his attitude and he needed to acknowledge that Alec might be better. A hard pill to swallow. His older brother was formidable and it angered him in a dragon way but it was brotherly. Jace berated himself for not being the 'best' in his mind.

The Warlock raised his hands in a placating way, "I don't mean to upset either of you." He went to make something for them to calm themselves. Magnus was back in the living area with tea, coffee, water and small plate of sushi. Dragons like fish as far as he knew so magically ordering the delight was not a problem. They ate a little because they were too worked up over their brother.

Jace paced around the loft waiting for something, he didn't know what but something. Isabelle was always the voice of reason in their weyr. It might not be large but it worked for them. "It's alright, but my brother has looked out for us for as long as we've ever known." She smiled but it was a sad smile because of his disappearance. "Please, our magic found you, we think he called out to you." She looked dejected but stated, "find him." Magnus shook his head positively in agreement, he would find this dragon.

"Alright, let's find your brother." Magnus felt compelled, not because of the dragons pleas but in his soul he needed to follow his heart, something he had not felt in a long time was tugging at him. Something he not felt in a long time and it was puzzling, and a good puzzle was worth investigating. "Do you have anything of his I can use to track him?" Isabelle had a piece of his clothing he used when transforming that she offered to the warlock, it was Alec's favorite shirt.

Isabelle donated a magical part from her scales to help the warlock track her brother that would add to the clothing. They were blood related it had to help in her mind and the warlock agreed. They found Alec easily but he was surrounded by magic, not only his own which was muted but others as well. Not all of the magic around him was positive.

Magnus debated with himself if he needed some magical back up, maybe Catarina or Ragnor. He considered his vampire son Raphael as well. Vamps had strength and speed and added with magic was a powerful thing. He would wait for Raphael, Magnus deemed power with magic would be the right approach to grab the dragon held captive.

Raphael arrived at the address Magnus was sure that Alec was held captive. He had learned from the siblings his name was Alexander and what he would look like for a dragon. Jace informed Magnus that he felt that Alec was in duress with some sickness. They were close due to their bond in joining the weyr family.

Magnus entered first giving a signal to Raphael to wait and then use his powers to grab the dragon if the warlock could not. Magnus was appalled, the dragon was lightly sleeping in a cage and his keepers were drinking and playing a game for use of Alec. The shadowhunter and warlock deemed a prize that they decided on a competition for the dragon, an arena to fight to the death. They recognized how strong the being was and wanted to win a contest even if it killed the dragon eventually. It didn't matter to them, all that mattered was money, they were drunk and talked loudly about the use of their new toy; their dragon. They never noticed Magnus or Raphael flanking the room to rescue Alec.

Magnus used his magic to freeze the room, the shadowhunter and warlock were locked into a bubble and could not move. Raphael ran to the cage and ripped it apart and quickly covered the dragon in the cloth bag that they knew was needed. The magic used against him was vaporized, the main chains eliminated and they contained the dragon for his safety. Alec still wore cuffs and wing clips but his rescuers deemed removing those things would be easier at the loft.

The dragon would be angry and while not ideal, it was important to subdue for portal-ling or any way to get him to the loft. They would soothe the being later as agreed upon. Once Magnus gave Raphael the signal he ran with the dragon at high speed to the loft. Magnus didn't want to portal them with the other warlock in the know due to protection from others. He had no time for this sort of belligerence. His vampire son texted that he was at home and that the dragon was alright and then Magnus killed both beings.

Magnus entered his loft and was amazed at how tenderly Raphael was handling the dragon. He could tell that the vampire was uncomfortable but smiled to himself anyway. He waited a few minutes before giving pity on the vamp and took the dragon into his arms.

"He's going to be alright, yes?" While Raphael wasn't a champion of Magnus' causes, he helped none the less.

"I don't know, I need to check on him." Magnus was concerned but his magic told him all he needed. The dragon was feeling better. Magnus and Raphael freed the dragon from his bonds, the wing clips were the trickiest. They spent a lot more time freeing Alec from those bonds, the key not hurting the wings. The cuffs on his neck and foot were far more easier to remove and heal, the wings would take time.

Magnus hugged the dragon to his chest, he didn't know what else to do to help the creature. He noticed the siblings watching but not interfering. They seemed to understand what this dragon needed and kept watch.

"They're afraid for him." Magnus finally stated to his friend Catarina who had finally met the new disruption in her friend's life.

"They will come around." Catarina added her healing magic to Magnus' for the dragon. He had been strong and put up with a lot trauma. It was his time to heal but on his own terms. "They are dragons, they have their own healing mechanism." She smiled at Magnus, "give him time."

"I don't want him to die." Magnus was worried about this the most. He held the dragon to his chest tightly as if he could help him more but wasn't sure if it worked.

"He's fine." Cat encouraged her friend. "He's breathing and resting." She snorted a little, "and when he wakes, better have food for him."

"I already have food for him. His siblings have been very clear of what he needs." Magnus laughed at the sibling dragons. They were so happy to have him back, they were very informative on how to care for Alec.

Ragnor arrived to sit with his dear friends and watched Magnus and the dragon that was saved, he sighed. "Careful, he'll imprint on you."

Cat and Magnus stared at their green prickly horned warlock friend, "what?"

Magnus held the dragon against his chest wrapped in a blanket, he thought it would be best to keep the being warm and if he admitted to himself he liked to hold him, whatever. The dragon settled into his arms easily and rested against his chest.

"He will imprint." Ragnor could see it. "Best be prepared for that." He said that in a droll way but wasn't mean about it.

"What are you talking about?" While Magnus was centuries year old warlock, there were things he dismissed too quickly.

"I'm telling you, the way you have that dragon held to your chest," Ragnor took a drink of his conjured beverage, "that dragon may attach itself to you." The prickly warlock shrugged, "be prepared is all I'm saying."

Magnus looked at the black dragon on his chest and thought, 'okay.'

Alec mumbled in the morning from the warlock's chest. Magnus looked at the dragon and was hoping to feed him and heal him but his ramblings of 'taking something' bothered the Warlock a great deal. What did they take and how could he help if he could. Alec was healing and while neither dragon or warlock knew it, they formed a bond. Magnus recognized that Ragnor had been right, the little dragon had imprinted and it was important to them both.

Magnus tried to sooth the dragon by rubbing his scales softly, Alec responded but was unsure of his surroundings. The warlock cooed to him, told him he was safe and his siblings visited to make him aware that he was not in a horrible place.

"They took my magic from my scales." Alec explained, "I don't know why."

Draconian Magic was priceless and worth a lot in various goods, the Shadow Market would go crazy for this element. Magnus was furious that Alec was used in this fashion. In general it gave an advantage in warfare and that didn't sit well with the High Warlock of Brooklyn. He needed to protect Alexander Lightwood and family from magical poachers and those using the magic for gain.

The Warlock called his Vampire son and asked him to go through the warehouse and find any and everything connected to Alec. He didn't want others stumbling upon the draconian magic that had been harvested. He sent images of what to look for but basically everything pertaining to Alec. Magnus provided a magical guide to help the vamp. Raphael understood, after all he knew Magnus well and had the knowledge to know what to look for and for some reason he liked the little dragon as well.

Raphael returned with vials of liquid and scales that was also kept in a different type of container. While Magnus didn't mention what else he should take, he took everything magical. He also confiscated everything he deemed needed to be in better hands, be it his clan or his pseudo father. They knew how to take care of their world better than anyone. The vampire wouldn't hide anything from Magnus but he would let him know what he kept.

In a few weeks time, Alec was comfortable enough to show his human form to Magnus. He was hesitant at first but the warlock had taken so much care of him, he wanted to show his whole self. Alec's siblings were frequent visitors but Alec was in no mood for their smothering behavior, he knew they meant well but he's the eldest, he didn't need it even if they disagreed with him. Alec was the head of their weyr and it was his rules and they understood. He kept them alive this long, he would make sure they always would live or so he hoped. Jace and Izzy doted anyway despite the eldest dragons wishes.

Magnus was enamored, what a beautiful dragon. He was tall, had black wild hair and unfairly gorgeous, hazel eyes that highlighted his black scales. His body was perfect, muscular and well defined. He suspected that the imprint did happen because of the dragon's interest in him. The warlock was alright with that outcome.

Alec spent time studying the Warlock who healed him and took care of him. He was mesmerized by the Asian man who was incredibly unique looking and to his eyes beautiful. He was slim but well built, his hair was interesting with his shaved sides and his penchant for having the top stand up with colors. Dragons liked colors and it appealed to Alec. While the clothing was not his style but was still intriguing, it seemed to work for the warlock. He studied him and grew to be appreciative of him and his abilities. He never used his powers against the dragon and that went a long way to healing him more emotionally than just physically.

Alec felt compelled to stay near Magnus, he heard the words imprint by another warlock but didn't think much about it. Yes, did he feel the need to be as close to the Warlock Magnus as possible, he didn't understand the rest of the topic. He'd never been drawn to anyone until now and with his dragon parents gone, there was no one to explain nuances. As the leader of the weyr, he never bothered with those attributes of their dragon family but he was learning.

He was puzzled by his humanoid form. Alec would stare at himself in the bathroom mirror and didn't understand the appeal but his human form pleased the warlock and he thought it was a good thing since he was very fond of the warlock. The symbols that decorated his upper torso and neck took some time getting used to seeing again, it had been a long time since he looked at his human form. He spent so much of his life as dragon, he forgot those things existed on him. His siblings also sported such things and teased him about not knowing the nuance of their species. Alec rolled his eyes, in his mind he thought 'whatever'. Being in human form wasn't a priority for the dragon, he was too busy taking care of the weyr family.

Magnus made sure the dragon was given as much attention and care possible. He wasn't treated well by the other beings. The siblings tried to help as best they could but knew Alec would be distanced from them, he was the head of their weyr and wouldn't allow them to cater to him. Izzy and Jace encouraged Magnus as best they could and advised how to handle him when Alec became stubborn. Magnus and Alec's connection was apparent to all of them, the dragons and warlocks. The only two who ignored the bond was the two in it.

It wasn't long before the weyr as small as it was moved into the loft. Magnus was gracious about his new room mates and did his best to provide for them. Alec wasn't pleased with the new development, for him it meant hunting and protecting when he was finally feeling like himself again. However his worry went away when his sister Izzy became attached to a daylighter vampire named Simon, she was finally taking on her heritage of a dragon and taking care of herself. He trusted the Vampire clan leader Raphael and son to Magnus therefore he didn't fuss over the new relationship.

Jace found a red-head shadowhunter who was incredibly sweet to the point of puking. Clary and Jace were enamored with each other and for his adoptive brother it was a good grounding point for him. Again for Alec it was good for the weyr to provide for themselves and this shadowhunter made Jace not only provide for her but was involved with someone he truly loved more than himself. Their family was finally growing and now Alec could finally find his own happiness.

Alec finally decided that while they weren't in a cave and their weyr was more distanced, it wasn't a bad thing for any of them. Especially for himself, it was more than an imprint, it felt more important to him. Magnus flirted with him and not out of trying to care for him. He could scent the difference, the warlock liked him a great deal and it was mutual. Still, he was worried the mutual like for each other was due to his being hurt and the imprint bond. Alec decided he would try to get information to make sure what he and the warlock was feeling was real.

Alec decided he would talk to the green warlock, Ragnor. He seemed to know a great many things and if anyone could help him it would be Magnus' friend. He did check the library at his Warlocks home, he wasn't as successful with his searches. He managed to figure out how to use a phone that Magnus got for him. Alec told himself he'd go to his cave and get some of his hoard to pay the warlock back even though Magnus said it was not necessary. Alec wasn't having it, he would pay his way. The dragon had not taken care of his weyr without knowing what to do to survive. Sometimes that meant dealing with merchants which in general was the only time he chose his human form. Now, he was in human form more than he thought possible and it wasn't unpleasant.

"Ah, my favorite dragon," Ragnor portal-ed in and made himself comfortable on the couch and watched Alec.

The dragon snorted, "favorite, huh?"

"Well of course, you are the desire in Magnus' eye." Ragnor then produced a couple tomes with his magic. He was well aware of what the dragon wanted to know and would help him and his idiot friend.

The dragon snorted again, he could never tell when the warlocks were teasing him or not and it seemed to be a favorite thing to do whether he liked it or not. "I asked you here for information."

"I know, and I have some." Ragnor approached Alec and handed him the tomes he had. "Read those and you'll know the answers about what you are worried about." Ragnor went back to the couch. "You have nothing to be concerned about."

"I'm unused to trying with a relationship," Alec looked embarrassed but held his head high to ignore his discomfort.

Ragnor chuckled, "nothing to worry about." He swirled his drink and due to color kept the dragon's eyes visually occupied and then stated, "you both like each other and have a connection and it has nothing to do with when you first met." Ragnor sighed, "you are connected, don't fight it."

"How are you so sure?" Alec wanted to act on his feelings but not if it was false due to his needs when rescued and imprinting.

Ragnor snorted hardily, "it's not the bond." He thought about his words, "you and Magnus connected, the only nuance was that he freed you from those miscreants." Ragnor contemplated, "the two of you need each other." Ragnor shrugged, he knew what he knew and nobody could change his mind. Warlocks knew before anyone else, it was their magic that helped them. "Embrace it." The green warlock smirked and left the books behind for the dragon and knew he would read and learn. He did leave parting words, "you are meant to be together, go with it. It's not the imprint though it helps." Ragnor laughed to himself, his friend Magnus was in for a world of change with a dragon in his life, especially in his personal life.

##

Magnus decided that he wanted go to the Shadow Market, he needed supplies for various things with some of his client requests and it would distract him from his pretty roommate who happened to be a dragon.

His best friends Catarina and Ragnor were both very helpful when it came to Alexander, but he also wanted to know if it was the dragon's imprint or was it genuine. Ragnor stated it was genuine but told him he would do research for him. Research made Ragnor happy, Magnus agreed to the help and appreciated his friend more for offering. Cat's attitude was to tease the warlock, 'what, you're shy now?' Magnus wanted to be cross with her but she knew him well, when he was all in, he was all in.

While he shopped his aura seemed more prominent and it was noticeable by all of the magic beings in the Market. He shopped and talked with all his favorite vendors and while they didn't say anything they were different with him. He thought 'did I do my hair and make-up wrong?' but he was impeccable, that couldn't be it. What he didn't notice was his magic combined with the dragon's and gave off a color not seen before but also said 'don't mess with him or you die'. It was powerful and the warlock never knew it was there. It seemed to be like his own when swirling around Alexander but he didn't realize his dragon had magic that swirled around him. Magnus never noticed, it melded so well with his magic that they were one and he went about his business as usual even if the vendors were acting strangely.

Once Magnus entered his loft with his purchases, he had also picked up take out for them. He noticed the dragon was napping in his bedroom, he would tell the warlock he liked the scent better than the spare room.

He looked at his coffee table were the tomes were placed. He knew it had to be Ragnor and noticed where the bookmarks were placed in various spots through out the two books. The warlock thought that was there for a reason and would read those sections first. Take care of business first, he put the food on the counter. He went to his apothecary to store his ingredients and then if the dragon was awake they would eat if not he'd let him sleep, they could always microwave the food later. It gave him the opportunity to read the passages in the books.

Magnus looked in his bedroom and Alec was lightly snoring which amused the warlock and the funny part of his snores was sometimes a little bit of smoke would escape and it made him laugh. Alec didn't know he was doing that but dragons did things that were unexpected. He conjured a drink and went to his couch.

He settled in and opened the tome on top and went through the pages marked by very ornate bookmarks, that was either Ragnor or Alec's doing and he was certain it was done for Magnus on purpose. He smiled to himself, he had thoughtful friends and an amazing dragon whom he hoped would be a lover. Magnus was still concerned it was because of the imprint and not a natural attraction.

As he read the marked material the warlock was feeling better. Magnus vowed to gift Ragnor with something for his work and help with his roommate that he now knew he could woo without feeling it was forced. The warlock liked the idea of 'them'.

He finished his reading and left the bookmarks where he found them and before he knew it, Alec was standing at doorway watching him with a smile on his face. This was their moment to recognize what they both wanted and it was magical in more ways than one. Magnus made his way to Alec and held his face in his hands, pulled him toward him, "may I?"

Alec sighed in content, "yes." The kiss was magical for both of them. Not only was it exciting, their magic mingled while they kissed and embraced each other. They finally stopped kissing due to needing air and smiled at each other.

"I've got take out to warm up and I want to cuddle with you on the couch." Magnus was done with the woo thing, take his man/dragon and get him now.

Alec laughed, "alright." The dragon was happy with the new relationship changes and he wanted more and knew he would get what he wanted, a fulfilled life with someone who loved him. Alec's warlock wanted the same, he could tell by his scent. The dragon was ready for 'new' in his life and in his mind while the weyr had spanned out, he could see how this group would be the best dragon family he had always dreamed could happen.
