Chapter 31: The Alliance

Calem tried to stead himself while sitting at the head of a vast table inside Avignon Town's citadel. His Dukes, Counts, Barons, sat with him alongside all of the Galar Earls, Duke Leon, and King Victor himself. Under guard of course.

However, the entire chamber was as silent as a crypt after hearing an explanation from the Kalos King.

"You're having a laugh with us, are you then?" Raihan muttered, trembling in his chair with the others.

"Votre Majesté, it can't be true. The Tale of Three Brothers is just a story." Philip almost pleaded.

Calem held his face and steadied himself.

"Non, it's true, all of it. I've seen the alter myself, heard the truth passed down to each Capetian King to his sons. My father and uncle both taught me about it too."

"But, but that's just nonsense!" Leon cried.

Calem narrowed his eyes at the Galar Duke and then pointed to Ash's Greninja.

"You want proof, he's your proof, Greninja is the third brother's Pokemon!"

All eyes turned to Greninja, who stared at the ground with a lost expression.

"That's that's impossible!" Wulfric muttered.

"Non, mon Seigneur. I've seen his memories, thousands of them. Greninja is as ancient as the story." Ash said, barely keeping himself together as thoughts of Serena and their baby flooded through him.

"But, but how could he have survived for thousands of years?!" Grant muttered in disbelief.

"We can't know for certain. Only that the Tear of Reduka's power comes from Reduka itself. According to the stories passed down from the line of Kings, the third brother and Greninja both held the tear in their hands. They both swore to protect the Tear, with the third brother eventually laying the foundations for the Kingdom of Kalos, and Greninja using the Tear's power to become immortal and forever protect his first master's family."

All eyes lingered on Greninja and the tears which fell from his eyes. Ash embraced Greninja and with this, all doubt vanished from the nobles.

"Princess." Arnaud muttered, thinking about Lysandre using her to get the Tear.

"If this is true, then we're already lost! Lysandre likely has the Tear already! He'll soon summon the legendary Pokemon!" Seibold cried.

"Which is why we must strike now!" Daniel roared back, rising to his feet and stabbing Geosenge town on the map with his dagger.

"Pour l'amour de Reduka! Pull yourself together! We have over thirty-thousand men!"

"And he'll have the legendary Pokemon!"

"So what? We duck and hide until he wipes us out on his terms! Daniel is right!"

"Oui! We won't go down without a fight! We'll march to Geosenge, bring that traitor to justice, and rescue Serena!" Calem roared.

"Pour Kalos!" Red cried while drawing his sword and raising it into the air.

"Pour Kalos!" The others echoed while doing the same, their Pokemon joining in, including Greninja.

The Galar nobles, however, trembled with pale expressions. None more so than King Victor himself.

His Rillaboom and Gloria tried to console him, but nothing could stop the tears flowing down his eyes.

"I did this. Lysandre used me, and I played right into his game." Victor looked over the map of Kalos and only then did he begin to picture the death, destruction, and misery brought forth upon it by his armies.

The various Kalos nobles gave him no sympathy, with many scowling his way. None of the Galar Earls could say much either, as their part in the war hit them nearly as hard.

Slowly, King Victor got up and approached Calem, with Lucas and Thevolt drawing their swords.

However, the Galar King fell to his knees before Calem.

The room went silent again, at least until Victor reached up and removed the crown from his head.

Gloria and the Galar nobles gasped in horror when they saw him extend the crown to Calem.

"Victor, what are you doing!?" Gloria screamed.

"Your majesty!" Leon and the Earls yelped.

"I caused all of this because of my pride, and envy….. I'm not fit to be King. You are, I relinquish my throne to you, Calem."

Calem's mouth dropped and his nobles similarly went silent.

Calem's eyes lit up and he almost trembled while staring at the golden crown offered too him. Reaching forward he took it in his hands and carefully held it. The crown of Galar, all he had to do was place it on his head and he'd be the King of Kalos and Galar. Yet after a seemingly endless minute, Calem exhaled and placed the crown back on Victor's head.

"What?" Victor muttered, tears in his eyes.

"…We can't change the past. But we can build a better future." Calem slowly offered his hand to Victor, to the awe and wonder of the nobles from both Kingdoms.

"We'll need the armies of Galar beside us to stop Lysandre, and they'll need their King leading them." Victor trembled but shook Calem's hand.

Ash felt a fire light in his stomach and he stared at Geosenge town on the map with Greninja.

"We're coming Serena!"

"Gre!"

Author's note

Yep not a very long chapter, but a transition one, the next few will be the climax

Not too much more to say here, however, I have received a notice that apparently some of my shippings indicate that I'm out of my mind. I only ask for specifics

1. Shauna and Clemont shipping exists it's called electricbounceshipping and there are even a few hints of it in the Pokemon XY adventures manga

2. Clemont and Aria, yes this one is a bit crazy, I just needed to give him a queen and she came to mind. I couldn't pair him with Yvonne for obvious reasons

3. Zinnia and Rokusho. This was requested by Rokusho's creator

4. Wulfric and Olympia, I don't actually ship them, I just needed some political marriages, same for Wikstrom and Drasna

5. Philip and Valerie, Philip is an original character from me, and Valerie needed a husband

6. Grand and Viola, another real ship

7. Red and Korrina... This was a ship I made back in my original Amourshipping fic, I stand by it and think these two would be a great couple if they ever met. They're a more believable couple than Korra and Asami

Did I miss any? Probably
