Chapter 13: Pengdemic Proportions
Previously
"Okay… we now know what caused the Swallow to become this way. Any ideas on how to change it back?..." Danny asked, getting back to the issue at hand with the changed penguin.
Lum thought about it.
"We could try and reverse the over nutrients that made it over grow like this… but It won't be easy and some of the equipment is back on my ship..." She offered but Sam was against it.
"Danny no! You can't let her use her weird alien tech near this poor defenseless creature. What if what she does something that makes it worse?..." She shouted.
"Like we have choice Sam, it's not like we have time to go to Clockwork and ask him to send me back in time to prevent this…" Danny told Sam, before he turned to Lum.
"Do it, but make sure no one sees you..." He told the alien princess while she nodded and flew out of the room while the three of them made sure to make that it doesn't do anything to get out, like break open the door or something.
"At least the door is shut..." Tucker said.
"You did make sure it was empty in there, right Tucker?..." Danny asked.
"Uh..." Tucker said trying to remember.
Present Time
With an unsettling silence Danny went and pressed his ear to the door, though he couldn't hear anything he phased through the door to see what's going on.
Sam and Tucker looked at each other and were a little uneasy.
"Uhh... Danny?..."The eco-goth asked, only to hear a groan from the ghost boy.
"Ah Crud!..." Danny said before he phased his head out.
Suddenly, the meat locker formed cracks along the metal body and its contents being emptied. It seems that the creature was still hungry and left even as Tucker started screaming.
"SAVE THE MEAT!..."The tech-geek said dramatically as he watched his favorite type of food be devoured whole.
"Tucker, we have more important stuff to deal with!..."Sam snapped at him.
Danny had managed to phase them all out and away from the school,while everyone else was busy looking for the so-called penguin.
Meanwhile
Lum was flying as she was determined get to her ship and get what she needed to make the penguin a swallow again.
"I have to make up for this..."She thought, trying to come up with a cure in her head.
She wants to make it up to her darling as fast as possible, not caring if someone sees her flying. She didn't even care that her disguise had worn off either. She figured that if she was fast enough, no one would notice.
"I bet I can make it in time..."She said but unknown to her, time was running short.
Down below
There was a disgruntle truck driver who was driving along and looking bitter.
"I can't believe those lazy bums are making bring all these flightless birds over to their Zoo... and people wondered why we seem so apathetic lately..."He muttered, wanting to get this over with and get home.
He changed the radio in his truck and just tried drowning out everything with music. However, he then looked out his window and saw something that caught his attention...or rather someone.
It looked to be a female with green hair and she was actually flying, in a bikini of all things... and she didn't look like a ghost either.
"WHAT IS THAT!?..."He exclaimed with his eyes bulging out.
Unfortunately, he wasn't paying attention to the road and predictably, the truck crashed into the telephone pole.
Good news; no one was hurt. Bad news; all the cargo got loose.
And that cargo was...
"PENGUINS!..." Someone screamed as dozens of Penguins were soon coming in droves on the street.
Each one causing all sorts of trouble that they couldn't handle and they were all heading towards one place.
Casper High.
The army of penguins forced the doors opened as they quickly caught the attention of everyone in the school. The students and Lancer, who had been hunting the first penguin, saw this and predictably, they started to freak out.
"WHAT THE!? HOW CAN THEY MULTIPLY SO QUICKLY?!..."The fat teacher exclaimed while everyone screamed as the small army of penguins ran amuck.
Some students jumped out of the way or on top of the lockers to keep themselves from being trampled, while some more fool-hardy students tried to grab some in hopes of getting those A's they were promised.
The truck driver, who while a mess, had been okay thanks to his air bags, saw what has happened and ran inside in a panic.
"Hey, catch them please!..."He wailed, "If you don't I'll lose my job..."He pretty much pleaded as he shaked his fist into the air at the Casper High people.
Some did as pleaded, others ran for it.
"There's more of them!..."Steven, one of the football players said as he tried to catch a penguin, only to miss and hit the floor.
"Like, this is so not worth the reward!..."Mia, a popular girl screamed as she started to run.
The other students were staying behind as the flightless birds entered the school, running amok.
Outside
Danny flew his friends to safety when they saw this.
"No way!..."Danny thought as he even rubbed his eyes, hoping he is seeing things.
He's not.
He was actually seeing an army of penguins waddling though Casper High.
Real ones, not the giants swallows who had been mutated by naive aliens.
They landed to see while Lum came flying back, looking distressed. She didn't even get a chance to get to her space ship after she saw the truck crash.
"Darling!..."She cried as she landed next to Danny.
Once landed, she saw the chaos and all the penguins.
"What happened, Darling?..."She asked, confused.
Danny was just stunned as they watched the chaos unfold.
Everyone else tried to make a grab to round up the penguins, but there was just too many. Even as the first Penguin, who was freed from the meat locker, came out and had grow twice as large now.
Danny, Sam, Tucker, and Lum were still stunned until the ghost boy finally found his voice.
"What the? How'd THIS happen?!..."He asked, his left eye twitching in anger.
Sam however, was only concerned with the animals.
"Who cares! We need to save the penguins before someone hurts them!..."She said, pointing at them.
"Hurts them?..." Tucker asked, brow raised, crying out in despair. "It's a Peng-demic! All tbe poor meats!.."He said melodramatically.
His friends rolled their eyes while Lum was lost.
"Humans each have such strange priorities..."She said and Ten nodded before he noticed people were staring at him.
"I swear, I didn't feed any more birds..."He said, worried he'd be blamed for this.
However, that was the least of their problems as they all saw the chaos get worse.
With the penguins
The flightless birds soon got into the rest of the town and started every piece of food they could find, causing all sorts of trouble for the citizens.
Danny saw this, and shook his head. While Same narrowed her eyes at a certain alien princess and sent her a dirty look.
"Way to go, Lum..."She said sarcastically.
The alien looked mad at that.
"You're blaming me for this?!..." Lum yelled, getting sick and tired of Sam blaming her for everything.
"Of course, I'm blaming you!..." Sam shouted back, angrily, as she began to rant. "Ever since you came you've been nothing but a pain in the-..."Before she could continue on, she was interrupted by Danny, who held a hand out to silence her.
"Let's just round them up before someone gets hurt..."He said.
"And before those in that crazy mob tries something to those poor creatures..." Sam added, as she went to help get the penguins.
Team Phantom goes to help where they could while Lum kept out of sight, looking for the mutated swallow.
A little later
The penguins were causing so much trouble, that it was not long before news helicopter and reporters showed up, with a certain reluctant newsman/meteorologist who was on the scene.
"I'm Lance Thunder and I'm coming to you live from Amity Park Center with a special report. Penguins being delivered to the zoo have escaped. As you can see at home, there are penguins everywhere..." Lance Thunder said, as the camera showed footage of all the penguin chaos.
He saw it and face palmed.
"I should have taken that job in Vegas..." He muttered, unaware that they were still live.
"We're still rollin'!..." His camera man said, making Lance realize what he said and then clear his throat.
"Uh...Anyway, it would seem that local hero/vigilante Danny Phantom is attempting to round them up and bring them back to the Zoo. When asked by our people on the ground, the truck driver made a fervent claim that he saw a girl in a bikini flying, which made him crash his truck and unleash the penguins in this Pengdemic..." The Newscaster reported before showing a clip of that driver giving his statement.
"I swear that I saw a flying woman. She looked just like that alien princess that almost took over the world..."The driver said before he groaned, his head still sore from the crash.
The clip ended and Lance continued with his report.
"However, since temporary hero, Danny Fenton had defeated the princess of the Invading Onis, there has not been any signs of the alien princess or any other aliens since then. So the police are delivering the driver to a hospital on the suspicion of him receiving a head traumatic injury that made him hallucinate..."He said, making it clear he didn't buy what he said.
The blonde weatherman/reporter continued giving his report as the camera man continued filming it.
"Mayor Masters assured the public that there is nothing to be concerned about and encourages everyone to help escort the animals back to the Zoo for people to enjoy..." Lance Thunder reported, showing a smiling picture of Vlad Masters.
"This is Lance Thurder saying..."He was cut off when a penguin suddenly pecked him in the knee and making him hiss in pain. "Why is it always me?!..."He loudly complained as a bunch of penguins started to peck him all over.
As the helicopter flies away to cover more of what people are calling the "Pengdemic", our heroes were able to find the mutated swallow going to a tree.
"There it is..."Lum sad, in relief.
They all followed and then saw it was trying hard to climb up the tree, but due to its new size and weight, it kept falling off.
"What's it's problem?..." Tucker asked out loud, while Sam picked it up to see if it wasn't hurt.
"Looks like it's too heavy to climb the tree, but why?..." Lum stated the obvious.
The Alien princess then heard sounds of chirping and looked up. She then floated up to the tree, and saw what was making the noise.
"Darling, look here!..."Lum gasped and pointed.
Despite it all, Danny floated up and saw what got her attention. A nest with three baby swallows in it, causing the halfa to blink.
"Baby swallows?..."He asked as both his and and Lum's eyes widened as they realized what this is about.
"Aha! These are that penguin's... I mean that swallow's chicks..."She concluded.
They soon gently brought the nest down together as the Penquin/Swallow then tried to feed her babies, but due to the changes her body had suffered, she couldn't.
"I figured that wouldn't work... She's gotten so big that she can't feed her chicks..." Danny said sadly.
"That's rough..." Tucker said, seeing it.
Danny and the others saw a sad, heartbroken look on the bird's face after failing to feed her babies. She looked like she was about to cry. Sam, being the animal lover, was the first to speak, well... yell at the person she's accusing of being responsible for this.
"This is all your fault, LUM!..."She shouted.
"MY FAULT!?..." Lum shouted, glaring at the goth girl.
They would get into each other's faces as and Sam started yelling at her again.
"Yes, you and your gross alien food. If those poor chicks don't eat they'll-..."
"Sam, calm down..." Danny said, getting tired of their constant arguing.
"WHAT!?..." Sam shrieked, thinking that Danny was taking Lum's side. "You can't seriously be-..."She was cut off when the half-ghost cleared his throat loudly.
"Shush, now..." Danny said, not wanting to attract attention to them, Especially as he grabbed them and made them invisible while the popular kids came walking by.
"Where'd that dumb penguin go? We need to catch it so we can get all As for our grades..." Dash asked as he and the popular kids kept searching.
"Let's just find it soon, I wanna get out of doing school work..."Paulina said in her spoiled way as they kept looking for their meal-ticket.
Once the popular kids left, Danny made everyone visible again.
"That was too close..."He exhaled.
"This is getting worse, all because of that stupid snack..."Sam said and Ten cringed upon hearing that, especially since his cousin was getting all of the blame.
"You're all blowing this all outta proportion..."He said, feeling bad for this and for his cousin getting blamed for his mistake, an idea came to him while looking at the babies before the candy in his hand.
An idea clicked.
"Oh, I know..."He said as he started floating to them but Sam blocked his path.
"And just what do you think you are doing?..." Sam demanded while the alien kid pulled out his box of candy.
"I was gonna feed the chicks some of these. If we can't make Mama Swallow small, then we can make her chicks big..." Ten suggested.
"That's a good idea, Ten..." Lum said approvingly but a certain goth was against this.
"No, it's not. It's a lousy idea. I am not going to let you mutate these poor defenseless babies!..."Sam said, glaring at the two aliens.
Lum frowned as she flew in closer, looking Sam in the eye.
"Ten's trying to fix his mistake, what's wrong if he makes them bigger?..." She asked glaring at Sam.
"EVERYTHING! For all we know, he will make the chicks sick or make them even bigger than their mom..." Sam said, since it's a strong possibility.
Ten hadn't considered that and that made Sam think that they didn't value animals but the little alien boy tried to think of more ideas.
"Well, we could make her bigger then..."He suggested, thinking that would help too.
The glare from Sam, Danny and Tucker made him flinch, which made Lum come to his aid and stand in his defense.
"Ten, you can't make her grow bigger..." Danny said.
"Why not?..."Ten asked. "It'll help the babies..."He said.
"Ten's right darling, I don't see a problem as to why we can't just let them grow as well..." Lum pointed out.
Sam glared and shook her fist as she stood, protecting the mutated bird and her babies.
"No we can't! It's not right to feed something literally alien to them and for all we know, these things will either seriously hurt them or mutate them into some kind of giant monsters. I'm not letting either of you hurt these innocent birds. Plus, Think of the damage those greedy people will do to them if they stay this way..."She said. Just before Lum could counter her words, Danny stood in between the two.
"Lum, Sam is right. We can't risk it. We just need turn the swallow back to her original size..." Danny said.
"But..." Lum said but was interrupted by Danny.
"I mean it, I am not risking a giant penguin going on a rampage and destroying the town..." Danny said strictly.
Lum and Ten backed down, knowing that Danny would get angry if they do this.
"I didn't expect this to become such a big problem..." Ten said, feeling guilty.
Despite it all, Danny sent him a sympathetic look, kneeling down to the 2-yr-old, who he knew meant no harm.
"It's not your fault Ten, you had no idea of knowing this would happen..."He said, being compassionate.
"Yeah, after all. You ARE a baby, and unfortunately related to some irresponsible adult..." Sam said as she sent a critical look to Lum.
The alien girl looked down, ashamed. She recalled Danny's words from earlier and felt very guilty. She didn't care what the *cough* love rival *cough* thought but the words her darling said truly hurt.
She didn't want him to keep siding against her but he is still upset.
"Lum, we need a way to reverse this..."Danny said seriously and the alien girl nodded.
"Fine, I'll take full responsibility for this and fix her..." Lum said to them.
"And how do you plan on doing that?..." Sam said, with her arms crossed, still not trusting her.
Lum glared back and crossed her arms before speaking.
"We can still reverse the effects of the food fed to the mother swallow. However, I'll need to fly her back to my ship to examine her and create a cure to reverse what happened to her..."She said.
"Lum, are you sure that you can cure her?..."Danny asked.
"Positive..."The alien princess said, nodding with a smug smile on her face but on the inside, she was worried.
It wouldn't be easy, even with her technology but she has to make this up to her beloved.
Sam was about to protest before Lum went and places her hands around Danny's with a big pleading look.
"Please darling... Please let me fix this..."She said, eyes watering as she looked at him.
Danny, despite that he doesn't love her, couldn't help but blush when he looked at Lum's eyes. He had to agree with her as he can't seem to reject her and nodded.
"Okay...I guess we can try that..."He said. "But you better me sure that this will work..."He said.
"I will do everything possible to fix this swallow..."Lum said, vowing to make this right.
"Oh yeah, and how are you doing that?..." Sam questioned skeptically.
Lum crossed her arms as she addressed the distrusting goth girl.
"Need I remind you that we came in spaceships? Our technology is far more advanced than anything you have. I'll just go into mine for the answer..." The alien princess said.
"Wait, maybe we can go too?..." Tucker asked, hopefully, wanting to see all cool alien stuff Lum had on her personal ship.
Sam shot a glare and would have spoken up had Lum not spoken up.
"Hmm... I suppose if you'd all like that..."Lum said, not against having them inside her ship.
"No dice..." Danny said.
Lum blinked at that.
"Really, you really don't wish to ride inside a spaceship?..."The alien girl asked her crush.
Danny was about to speak up, but what she said finally sunk in.
"Wait... really?" He asks, looking intrigued as his curiosity got the better of him.
The oni girl nodded.
"Definitely. I don't mind..." Lum said.

Before Sam could retort, Danny spoke up.
"Alright..."He said, surprising the two girls.
"Danny, you can't be serious!..."Sam said in disbelief. "Please keep your childhood space fantasies at bay!..."She shouted.
Danny blushed in embarrassment and shrugged as his love for space got the better of him.
"Hey, I just wanna make sure that nothing goes wrong...and a part of me...would love to see a real alien spaceship..."He admitted, unable to stifle his smile.
Can you blame him?
He is still a big space geek deep down and while Lum is a pain and he is still wary of her, he still loves space and the thought of riding in a space ship was too inviting.
He never asked since he wanted Lum gone but the opportunity was too tempting for him to resist.
Lum then beamed, holding the Sparrow/Penguin like it was a plush toy, excited to make him happy once.
"Okay darling! You're gonna love it!..."She said, happy to give him a ride.
Sam was still against this.
"Danny! You can't be serious! How do we know she's just going to abduct you as soon as you get on that metal monstrosity!?..."She shouted.
Lum looked appalled, insulted even.
"I'd never do that!..."She said, looking offended.
The goth girl, however, didn't believe it.
"You tried to conquer our planet, I wouldn't put it past you to abduct our poor defenseless cows and also Danny!..." Sam snapped. glaring at Lum.
Lum was about to snap back, Danny however made a small spark of ecto-energy to get their attention.
"Both of you stop! We don't have time for this..."He shouted as he got between the two girls to separate them before punches or lightning occurred.
"Sam, Lum's trying to help us undo this. Can you please put your suspicions on hold until we get this all cleared up?..." Danny asked, looking at his goth friend.
Sam was shocked by this while Lum smirked at her victory only for Danny to say the following words.
"Lum I'm trusting you to not abduct me or anything while we're on your ship to fix the mistake you made. Understand..."He said, remaining serious.
Lum looked down and was upset that she couldn't keep his smile for long. She sighed as she knew what she had to do.
"I promise, Darling. I won't do anything to kidnap or anything like that..."She said, vowing to him.
Danny nodded while he picked Tucker and the penguin/sparrow and looked to Sam and Jazz, both looking upset but he tried to make this work.
"You two want to come with?..."He asked.
Sam however crossed her arms and looked away.
"I have no interest in being in a spaceship with her. Plus, I have to be here to make sure that no one hurts those poor penguins..."She said, turning her back while Jazz just shook her head.
"I already went to her ship, thanks though. Maybe I can stay here and help Sam?..."She offered.
Danny nodded and looked back to the others.
"You guys, ready?..."He asked.
"Yeah!/Yes, Darling!..." Tucker, Ten, and Lum all said as Danny held onto them, making them all intangible/invisible before flying through the ceiling until they made it out.
Soon, they were still invisible and above the helicopter to keep them from spotting Lum or Ten as the Oni princess leads them to her ship.
They were all hoping that their plan will work.
In the air
Danny, Lum and Ten all flew to her UFO, with Danny carrying Tucker since he can't fly.
Lum seemed particular giddy for some reason as the guy she loves would be in her ship...even if her little cousin and her husband's friends will also be there with them.
"If only he was coming for different reasons..."She thought before sighing.
She knew that they had to fix the swallow and that's what she tried to focus on.
"How much farther?..."Danny asked as they became visible, due to being a safe distance from any potential witnesses.
"Just a little bit more, Darling. You're going to love it.,," She called to them as she showed them the way.
They soon come across a ship that almost looked like a saucer from the old Sci-fi movies, but styled a little differently and had the Oni color scheme of yellow and black stripes.
Despite their own personal opinions of the oni aliens, the two boys couldn't help but be amazed.
"WHOA!..."They both exclaimed, their jaws dropping when they saw it.
Lum smiled at this reaction.
"Darling, Darling's friend. Welcome to my personal ship..." Lum said as they flew over and entered the ship.
