Chapter 2 - The Boys Who Lived with Hagrid
His blue eyes were light, bright, and sparkling behind half-moon spectacles and his nose was very long.
This man's name was Albus Dumbledore,
did not seem to realize that he had just arrived in a street where everything from his name to his boots was unwelcome. He was busy rummaging in his cloak, looking for something.
But he did seem to realize he was being watched,
because he looked up suddenly at the cat,
which was still staring at him from the other end of the street.
For some reason, the sight of the cat seemed to amuse him.
He chuckled and muttered, "I should have known."
He found what he was looking for in his inside pocket.
It looked to be a silver cigarette lighter. He flicked it open, held it up in the air, and clicked it. The nearest streetlamp went out with a little pop. He clicked it again - the next lamp flickered into darkness. Twelve times he clicked the Put-Outer, until the only lights left on the whole street were two tiny pinpricks in the distance, which were the eyes of the cat watching him. If anyone looked out of their window now,
even beady-eyed Mrs. Dursley, they would not be able to see anything that was happening down on the pavement.
Dumbledore slipped the put-outer back inside his cloak and set off down the street toward number four, where he sat down on the wall next to the cat. He did not look at it,
but after a moment he spoke to it.
"Professor McGonagall."
He turned to smile at the tabby, but she had gone.
Instead he was smiling at a rather severe-looking woman who was wearing square glasses exactly the shape of the markings the cat had had around its eyes. She, too, was wearing a cloak, an emerald one. Her black hair was drawn into a tight bun.
She looked distinctly ruffled.
"How did you know it was me?" she asked.
"My dear Professor, I 've never seen a cat sit so stiffly."
"You'd be stiff if you'd been sitting on a brick wall all day,"
said Professor McGonagall.
"All day? When you could have been celebrating?
I must have passed a dozen feasts and parties on my way here."
Professor McGonagall sniffed angrily.
"Oh yes, everyone's celebrating, all right," she said impatiently.
"You'd think they'd be a bit more careful, but no - even the Muggles have noticed something's going on. It was on their news." She jerked her head back at the Dursleys' dark
living-room window. "I heard it. Flocks of owls...
shooting stars... Well, they are not completely stupid.
They were bound to notice something. Shooting stars down in Kent - I will bet that was Dedalus Diggle.
He never had much sense."
"You can't blame them," said Dumbledore gently.
"We've had precious little to celebrate for eleven years."
"I know that," said Professor McGonagall irritably.
"But that's no reason to lose our heads. People are being downright careless, out on the streets in broad daylight,
not even dressed in Muggle clothes, swapping rumors."
She threw a sharp, sideways glance at Dumbledore here,
as though hoping he was going to tell her something,
but he did not, so she went on. "A fine thing it would be if,
on the very day You-Know-Who seems to have disappeared at last, the Muggles found out about us all. I suppose he really has gone, Dumbledore?"
"It certainly seems so," said Dumbledore. "We have much to be thankful for. Would you care for a lemon drop?"
"A what?"
"A lemon drop. They're a kind of Muggle sweet
I'm rather fond of."
"No, thank you," said Professor McGonagall coldly,
"As I say, even if You-Know-Who has gone…"
"My dear Professor, surely a sensible person like yourself can call him by his name. All this 'You- Know-Who' nonsense - for eleven years I have been trying to persuade people to call him by his proper name: Voldemort." Professor McGonagall flinched, but Dumbledore, who was unsticking two lemon drops,
seemed not to notice. "It all gets so confusing if we keep saying 'You-Know-Who.' I have never seen any reason to be frightened of saying Voldemort's name."
"I know you haven 't, said Professor McGonagall, sounding half,
exasperated, half admiring. "But you're different.
Everyone knows you're the only one You-Know- oh, all right, Voldemort, was frightened of."
"You flatter me," said Dumbledore calmly. "Voldemort had powers I will never have."
"Only because you're too noble to use them." She said.
"It's lucky it's dark. I haven't blushed so much since Madam Pomphrey told me she liked my new earmuffs." Said Albus.
"The owls are nothing next to the rumors that are flying around. You know what everyone is saying? About whom stopped him?
What they're saying," she pressed on, "Is that last night Voldemort turned up at the Potters and they're dead."
Dumbledore bowed his head. Professor McGonagall gasped then he reached out and patted her on the shoulder.
"I know... I know..." he said heavily.
Professor McGonagall's voice trembled as she went on.
"That's not all. They are saying he tried to kill the Potter's son. But could not. He could not kill Lewis, he only two.
No one knows why, or how, but they are saying that he had somehow broke Voldemort." Dumbledore nodded glumly.
"It's true?" faltered Professor McGonagall.
"After all he's done... all the people he's killed... he couldn't kill a little boy? It's just astounding... of all the things to stop him... but how in the name of heaven did he survive?"
"We can only guess," said Dumbledore. "We may never know."
It had twelve hands but no numbers; instead,
little planets were moving around the edge.
It must have made sense to Dumbledore, though,
because he put it back in his pocket and said,
"Hagrid's late. I suppose it was he who told you
I'd be here, by the way?"
"Yes," said Professor McGonagall. "And I don't suppose you're going to tell me why you're here, of all places?"
"I've come to bring the triplets to their aunt and uncle.
They're the only family they have left now."
"You don't mean, you can't mean the people who live here?" cried Professor McGonagall, jumping to her feet and pointing at number four. "Dumbledore you can't. I've been watching them all day. You could not find two people who are less like us.
And they have got this son. I saw him kicking his mother all the way up the street, screaming for sweets.
Potters come and live here!"
"It's the best place for the triplets," said Dumbledore firmly.
"His aunt and uncle will be able to explain everything to them when there's older. I've written them a letter."
"A letter?" repeated Professor McGonagall faintly, sitting back down on the wall. "Really, Dumbledore, you think you can explain all this in a letter? These people will never understand them!"
"He'll be famous – a legend - I wouldn't be surprised if today was known as Potters Day in the future - there will be books written about the triplets, every child in our world will
know the name Potter!" She finished.
"Exactly," said Dumbledore, looking very seriously over the top of his half-moon glasses. "It would be enough to turn
any boy's head. Famous before he can walk and talk!
Famous for something he won't even remember!
Can you see how much better off he'll be, growing up away from all that until he's ready to take it?"
Professor McGonagall opened her mouth, changed her mind, swallowed, and then said, "Yes - yes, you're right, of course. But how is the boy getting here, Dumbledore?"
She eyed his cloak suddenly as though she thought he might be hiding Harry underneath it.
"Hagrid's bringing them." Said Albus.
"You think it wise to trust Hagrid with someone
as important as this?" She said warried.
"I would trust Hagrid with my life," said Dumbledore.
"I'm not saying his heart isn't in the right place,"
said Professor McGonagall grudgingly, "but you can't pretend he's not careless. He does tend to what was that?"
A low rumbling sound had broken the silence around them.
It grew steadily louder as they looked up and down the street for some sign of a headlight; it swelled to a roar as they both looked up at the sky – and a huge motorcycle fell out of the air and landed on the road in front of them.
If the motorcycle was huge, it was nothing to the man sitting astride it. He was almost twice as tall as a normal man and at least five times as wide. He looked simply too big to be allowed, and so wild and long tangles of bushy black hair.
His beard hid most of his face, he had hands the size of trash can lids, and his feet in their leather boots were like baby dolphins. In his vast, muscular arms he was holding
a bundle of blankets.
"Hagrid," said Dumbledore, sounding relieved. "At last.
And where did you get that motorcycle?"
"Borrowed it, Professor Dumbledore," said the giant, climbing off the motorcycle as he spoke. "Sirius Black lent it to me."
"No problems, were there?" Asked Albus.
"The house was almost destroyed. They were gotten out all right before the Muggles started swarming around."
Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall started looking.
"Where are they?" whispered Professor McGonagall.
"They are with his god-father and they're in route."
Said Dumbledore. Then Sirius and Molly appeared with
all three toddlers. Then Lewis woke up, started right at Albus, and started crying. Albus took Lewis, and said, "You be fine."
Then Albus head in his mind, 'NO I want,
she gone he gone, we lost them both.' Through Lewis.
Hagrid took Harry and Arthur, then Lewis started
reaching for Hagrid, so Hagrid took Lewis, who started hugging Harry and Arthur. They woke up now looked at each other.
"That how I found the three." Said Sirius.
"What happened?" Asked Albus.
"Are you talking to that baby?" Asked Minerva.
"Quiet Minerva." Said Albus.
'He tried to kill me.' Thought Lewis.
"You want to stay with your brothers." Asked Albus.
Lewis was hugging Harry and Arthur. 'Yes, we will not be,' Started Lewis. 'Be separated.' Continued Harry.
'We like our Hagrid. We will be with him.' Finished Arthur.
Albus moved Lewis' hair aside, they all saw the star and lighting scar starting on Lewis' head and then finishing on Harry and Arthur heads, "Clearly Lewis was where the spell hit."
"Guessing that where the spell hit." Asked Minerva.
Lewis was looking at her, then messed with his hear.
"Yes," said Dumbledore. "Lewis got hit by the curse.
Harry and Arthur did not." Said Albus, Lewis then nodded.
Hagrid started crying, "They must live here?"
"Yes, yes, it's all very sad, but get a grip on yourself,
Hagrid, or we'll be found," Professor McGonagall whispered, patting Hagrid gingerly on the arm.
They were now at the front door, then Albus rang the bell,
till Vernon and Petunia answered. "Greetings, we must come in and talk, got bad news for you." Said Albus.
They all walked in. Vernon did not know what to make of these people yet. "Who are you?" Demanded Vernon.
"Tuney we finally meet." Said Albus.
"Who are you?" Said Petunia.
"Your sister know me." Said Albus, "She went to my,
what did you call it long ago, oh yes, 'School for Freaks.'
I am Albus Dumbledore, think you called me the Head Freak,
after I said no to you wanting to come. Do you know why?"
"No, why?" Asked Tuney.
"You did not have the energy, the power inside," Said Albus,
"You could have been a Witch, but you rejected the power,
to make yourself a Witch, both your parents and your husband brother is a wizard and sister-in-law is a witch and your other nephew is a Wizard, same as the triplets here."
"What are you doing here?" Asked Vernon.
"Tuney, is that not what you sister called you?" Asked Albus.
"She did." Said Petunia.
"Do you hate you sister, for as you called her being a freak?"
Asked Albus. "Do you have any love left for her?"
"No, have not talked to her in years." Said Petunia.
"She still loves you." Said Albus.
"Still don't know why you are here." Asked Petunia.
"I Regret to inform you, your sister Lilly and your brother-in-law, James Potter have been murdered." Said Albus.
"Who are they?" Asked Petunia.
"Your nephews Lewis, Harry, and Arthur," said Molly,
"If you hate you sister how will you treat them,
as beloved nephews or a burden."
"What do you mean here for us to do?" Said Vernon.
"I was hoping they would stay with their family."
Said Albus. "You are all they have left."
"They can stay for now, let's see how it goes." Said Vernon.
"I will be checking in on them." Said Molly.
"I will know if they are mistreated."
Then Hagrid heard something, 'Can we live with you Hagrid?'
Three voices at once. 'This two are evil.' Started Lewis,
'If you leave us, we will come.' Continued Harry.
'These two will end up hearting us.' Finished Arthur.
"Boys." Said Hagrid. "This is your family you need to stay here."
'We want to stay with you, not these.' Started Lewis.
'They scare us,' Continued Harry. 'We want our Hagrid.'
Finished Arthur, then they started crying.
"Try it for a week, I will visit you Friday." Said Hagrid.
Then they left with the triplets sitting next to each other on the couch hugging each other. Staring at the strangers.
"Your room is under the stairs," Said Vernon.
Lewis looked at him, like he was nuts. Lewis waved at him.
Then they translocated to Hagrid house.
They turned back into their puppy forms and curled into circle where their head was on the back of the next and fell asleep,
sleeping on the sofa.
Thirty minutes later Sirius, Albus, and Hagrid went to Hagrid house and sat at the table, Hagrid got some drinks,
then Hagrid joined them.
"Hagrid you know it is for the best." Said Albus.
"I don't think it is, I would like them to become mine,"
Said Hagrid, "Lily and James, have me set up as there guardians,
and I want sons. Can we move them here. I don't trust those."
"Hagrid when did you get puppies?" Asked Sirius.
"I don't have puppies." Said Hagrid.
"Those are puppies on your couch." Said Sirius.
Hagrid walked over to the couch, then asked, "Who are you three? Where did you come from."
Lewis woke up and looked at him. Then he saw the emerald eyes.
Then Lewis through, 'Daddy Hagrid, we want to stay here.'
The other two looked at him, then Harry through, 'Yes, Daddy.'
Then Arthur added, 'Daddy.'
"Why don't you three want to stay with your family?"
Asked Hagrid. "Tuney is your sister Mom."
'They scar us, they want to turn us normal according to them,'
Through Harry, 'If we don't, they will starve and beat us.'
'Also, you, Daddy James, and Mamma Lily talked, and you agreed to be our Daddy if they died.' Through Lewis. 'We agreed,
if you bring us back to number four, we will come back.'
'You can't get rid of us,' agreed Harry.
"They can think in my head and called me Daddy." Said Hagrid,
then looked at triplets then said, "Changing the plan, Dumbledore, they stay with me."
"No, we must bring them back," Said Albus.
"I want them here," Said Hagrid.
"No," Said Albus, who then went to pick them up, when Lewis started growling at him, showing his teeth. "Lewis, stop that." Ordered Albus, but he did not.
Then Lewis through to Hagrid, 'If he touches my brothers or me, I taste what real old wizard taste like.' Still growling at Albus who backed up, then Lewis stopped growling.
"Lewis seems not to like me," Said Albus.
'If the old man touches what is mine,' Through Lewis. 'I will have aged wizard for dinner.'
"Is Lewis talking in your head still?" Asked Albus.
"Yes," Said Hagrid. "Lewis is going bite you if you touch them."
The Albus stuns them, and Hagrid picks them up and Albus teleports them back to number four, then knocks on the door, and asked, "Vernon did you lose someone, maybe three boys?"
Albus and Hagrid walked in and sat on the sofa with the boys.
"They disappeared in front of us," Said Vernon.
Then they started waking, then Lewis looked at Albus,
with a cross look on his face.
"Vernon there special, there wizards." Said Albus.
"Where are they and what with the puppies?" Asked Vernon.
"These are the boys," Said Albus, "They can shape shift."
"Oh," Said Vernon.
"You're going take good care of your nephews?" Asked Albus.
"Right." Said Vernon.
Then a small fat boy came out and looked at the dogs.
"What this one name?"
"Dutters." Said Vernon.
"We got doggies now?" Asked Dutters.
"Boys turn back." Said Albus.
Two looked at one, but nothing happened, but Dutters started coming close to them. Lewis started looking at him, showing his teeth but not growling.
"Is this one going bite me?" Asked Dutters.
"He is protective of the other two." Said Albus.
He patted Lewis on the head. Then Albus left and Dutters got the three puppies next to him.
'Dutters,' He heard in his head.
"What?" Asked Dutters.
'You can hear us in your mind Dutters.' Through Lewis. 'I would love to know you, but we want our Daddy.'
'That we do.' Said Harry.
'We will stay till bedtime, then we return to our Daddy.'
Through Lewis, 'Your Daddy is scarry to us, but he is yours.'
"That he is mine," Said Dutters.
"What is yours?" Asked Vernon.
"Your my Daddy." Said Dutters. "You are."
"Who are you talking to?" Asked Vernon.
'He can't hear us.' Thought Lewis.
'Can we hide in your room?' Asked Harry.
"Sure," Said Dutters. Then the puppies jumped down and followed him up, but Vernon went to grab Lewis who started growling at him. Dutters then said, "They came with me."
Then the three puppies got behind Dutters and went up to his room with him. When safely in the room.
Dutters sat down then Lewis got in his lap then on his back, Harry and Arthur on either side. "My puppies." Said Dutters.
'Magic puppies, you a boy.' Through Lewis.
"Yes, I am. You are to." Said Dutters.
'How do you know?' Asked Lewis.
"I can see you are." Said Dutters.
'You like the view?' Asked Lewis. 'We will be leaving tonight,
we want our Daddy.'
"Will you come back and visit?" Asked Dutters.
'Sure.' Through Lewis.
"When are you leaving?" Asked Dutters.
'Couple hours when he is sleeping.' Through Lewis.
Couple hours later Lewis then asked, 'He is sleeping. Are you ready? We need to go.' Lewis was now laying on Dutters.
'Stay quiet.' Through Lewis. 'We should surprise him.'
'Yes,' Through the other two. Then they translocated to Hagrid kitchen, then they snuck into Hagrid's bedroom and laid down with him, the three got on top of Hagrid and curled up together.
When Hagrid woke up, he felt fur on top of him. Then asked,
"Through we agreed we would wait a week."
'No, we did not. You said we should. We said we wanted to stay where Momma and Daddy said we should go.' Through Lewis,
'You want sons, we want a Daddy. Good match.'
'Yes, Daddy we want our Daddy.' Added Harry.
"Then you stay, your mine now." Said Hagrid. "Can my boys turn back I want to look and hug my boys."
They turned back now laying side by side with just diapers,
now hugging them, 'Daddy smells good.' Through Lewis.
'He has a nice heartbeat,' Added Harry.
'Also, strong, no one will hurt us with him,' Added Arthur.
'He will rip their arms off,' Finished Lewis.
Then he started patting there assess. 'Do we have nice little ass? Are they nice to play with.'
"Yes," Said Hagrid, also rubbing their backs, "Only have two hands must take turns. Now go to sleep."
'If we stay here, we will,' Said Lewis.
"They follow you, don't they?" Asked Hagrid.
'We do,' Through Harry. 'We always will. He the bold one.
We love him, also can't see his ass unless I follow.'
'We do love each other, there mine.' Added Arthur.
'We are now yours Daddy,' Through Lewis, 'We love you to,
and each other. These two are still mine now.'
"Love this got my own sons," Said Hagrid, "They even came in a set and there so cute." Then the three boys fell asleep with Hagrid watching all night.
When they woke up in the morning Hagrid heard the growling,
then said, "Looks like I got hungry boys."
'We are,' Said Lewis, 'But we don't eat munch.'
'We are skinny twerps like our uncles and Daddy.' Said Harry.
"You are, let me fatten you up some," Said Hagrid, "Make you grow big and strong."
Then picked up all three and walked into the kitchen with them and made three baby chairs and sat them in it.
'If Daddy wants us bigger, he has to make us bigger,'
Said Hagrid. 'If he thinks we are runty.'
He made three bottles appear with chocolate milk and gave it to them and they started drinking them.
"You are good as you are, but your get bigger. It is how you boys work. Through like you dad he was a runt to." Said Hagrid.
"Through I know you were coming fixed you a room."
'We need a room?' Asked Harry.
'Daddy's belly makes a good bed.' Said Lewis.
A knock on the door, and Hagrid answered.
"There back?" Asked Albus.
He came in and sat at the table.
"Through we were going to try number four for a week,"
Said Albus, "Why are you back."
"They want me as Daddy," Said Hagrid. "They said they will keep coming back and gave them to me as sons."
"Are you sure." Said Albus.
"They stay with me now." Said Hagrid. "Not taking no for an answer and those two scare the triplets. These three are my sons now and forever."
Then they started sleeping on Hagrid's belly in there puppy forms for the next several months.
Hagrid woke up the next morning, then saw them, and said,
"You guys know I am not going anywhere, but if this makes you happy go ahead. I love this."
Then they all started giving him puppy kisses.
'Good we love our Daddy Hagrid.' Through Lewis.
'We do love Daddy Hagrid.' Agreed Harry.
'We do love Daddy Hagrid, you love us, right?' Asked Arthur.
"I love you three, also love that word, when it comes from you,"
Said Hagrid, "That magic word is awesome."
'Magic word?' Asked Lewis, then the three looked at each other.
"Daddy Hagrid, you three are my sons now, and you think of me as Daddy." Said Hagrid. "So happy to have sons."
"Glad we have the part to be your sons," Through Lewis.
"Would get onto him but we do to," Through Harry.
"We do," Through Lil Arthur.
