Chapter 6: A Satisfied Customer

On Sunday, Blaine skipped his usual brunch for a jog around the park and a chat with Mike.

While they were stretching after their jog, Blaine tentatively brought up the topic of marriage.

Mike sighed.

"I know Tina's expecting me to pop the question. Her hints are becoming more and more blatant, and it kills me to have to disappoint her. Don't get me wrong, I want to marry her. I do. She's my forever, no doubt about that. But… I don't know how I'd manage planning a wedding with everything I've got on my plate already. And then, as soon as we're married, Tina's going to want kids, she's been talking about that too. And I should be there for her, every step of the way, and then there for the baby, too. I just don't see how I can do that right now. Most days I barely even get to eat or sleep, I'm so busy."

Blaine nodded. "I'm sure Tina understands. She just … hates the thought of having to wait to start a family until she's in her thirties."

Mike raked a hand through his hair and hung his head. When his eyes met Blaine's again, they looked glossy with unshed tears.

"I'll talk to her. And I'll see if maybe I can change my specialisation so that it takes a few years less."

"Sorry, man," Blaine mumbled.

Mike clapped him on the back. "Hey, hey, no, none of that. I'm glad you have Tina's back. I'm glad she has you to talk to. And I needed to hear this. I'm not sure how I'm going to solve the problem, but I will. I promise."

The conundrum kept bugging Blaine the rest of the day, and on Monday, too, he found himself wondering what Mike would end up doing.

It was quiet at the store that day, so he closed up a little early and headed home, still so preoccupied that he walked smack into someone going the other direction.

When he looked at that person to apologise, he saw that it was Kurt. Oh!

Kurt was clearly in a hurry and meant to run on, but Blaine was eager to talk to him and stopped him, though he made sure to check Kurt wasn't late for his shift again.

Blaine's heart leapt when he heard Kurt had been running to catch him at the store. To thank him for the candle.

Well, that was unnecessary, but if it made Kurt come and talk to him, he'd gladly accept his thanks.

Right then, though, Kurt said something that made Blaine freeze. "I don't know what you've put in it, but it's pure magic. Really, it is."

Blaine was pretty sure Kurt was just using the word magic as a hyperbole, but it still came a bit too close for comfort.

He was quick to put on a smile again and give an answer full of platitudes.

But then Kurt went further and probed as to how Blaine had managed to develop such a good insomnia cure, wanting to know if Blaine had trouble sleeping too.

Well, no, he didn't, and he wasn't going to lie about it. If it took him more than five minutes to fall asleep, he just rubbed one out and that made him nod off instantly.

Kurt's shocked face made Blaine rewind the conversation in his head and cringe. Had he really mentioned masturbation out loud? To his latest crush? Yep. Yes, he had. Oops.

Kurt started to giggle, and then insinuated he should have taken Blaine home instead of that sleeping candle.

Any time, honey!

Blaine told Kurt he'd be just fine with that, and before he knew it, they were kissing, right there in the street, Kurt giving as much as he got, his strong hands on Blaine's back feeling so right and so good.

Beep!

Blaine knew that sound, and knew what it meant by now. Kurt would be running away again any second now, and leave him wanting.

Except … He didn't!

Kurt arranged for someone else to work his shift, and then tugged him along. To the subway, slinging an arm around Blaine and pulling him close to peck him on the mouth again. To the place where he lived and straight to his bedroom. Well … sort of… tent room? Only a curtain separated it from the living area. Not ideal, but no-one else seemed to be at home.

Blaine saw his candle on the nightstand and grinned.

"Not lighting it today," Kurt announced. "You promised another remedy."

Blaine slipped a hand under Kurt's shirt to trace his spine until he shivered. "And I plan to deliver."

Four hours later, after two rounds of sex, take-out pizza and a shower plus round three, Kurt was the first one to nod off.

Blaine grinned in satisfaction, dropped a kiss on Kurt's sternum and then cuddled up close, allowing sleep to claim him too.

K&B

The next morning, when he slipped out of Kurt's 'room' to fix them both some breakfast, he found his diner waitress in the kitchen.

"Hi, I'm Rachel," she said chipperly. "Kurt's roommate."

"Good morning, Rachel. My name is Blaine."

"Kurt's boyfriend?"

Blaine dug his toes into the carpet and wriggled them. "Well, we haven't had that conversation yet, but I hope so?"

That had clearly been the right answer. Rachel beamed at him, and even helped him find a tray to bring Kurt breakfast in bed.

Kurt, apparently, was not a morning person. Even though he'd been asleep before Blaine the night before, he was reluctant to open his eyes, and answered Blaine's "Good morning" with only a groan, pulling his sheet over his face.

It made Blaine smile.

"All right then, I'm going to eat these pancakes all by myself then. Yummy, yummy blueberry pancakes with maple syrup. Mmmm!"

The sheet lowered a bit, and Kurt's nose did its utmost to sniff out all the delicious smells of the breakfast Blaine had made. Blaine obligingly held the plate of pancakes right under Kurt's nose.

Kurt's eyes opened the tiniest sliver, blinking against the light.

"Coffee?" he asked in a gravelly voice.

Blaine's lips twitched with the effort not to laugh. He knew from experience – Cooper with a hangover - that him laughing would make Kurt grumpy.

"Please?" Kurt asked.

Blaine handed Kurt a mug of coffee, and watched him drink deeply.

Kurt let out a happy sigh. "That's better."

He looked at the tray. "Oh wow, that does look good."

Minutes later, they were leaning against the headboard, the tray balancing on their laps, sharing the pancakes.

"How did you even find everything?" Kurt wanted to know, and then he answered himself, "Rachel. Of course. I hope she wasn't too…"

Kurt waved his hands about. Apparently, Rachel's oddities defied description.

"She was really nice," Blaine reassured him. "Helped me find everything. Asked if I was your boyfriend."

Kurt's eyes went wide, and he went very still, muttering a soft "Oh no."

Blaine chuckled. "Did that scare off other men you've dated?"

Kurt cringed and nodded. "One didn't even put his clothes on before bolting out the door."

Blaine threw his head back and laughed. Then he said, "Well, that's their loss. I'm certainly not scared. I like you. A lot. I want to have many more dates with you, and yes, become your boyfriend someday soon. If you want that too?"

And then the tray was suddenly gone, and he had Kurt on his lap kissing him.

"I'll take that as a yes," Blaine said when they finally came up for air.

"Yes," Kurt confirmed, and then dived in for more kisses.

The candle was barely ever used again, but for the rest of his life, Kurt slept soundly, in Blaine's arms.

THE END

This is the prompt the story is based on (thank you, Nonnie, whoever you are, for providing this prompt, which was right up my aisle!)

Prompt #15: Real magic is something that is shrouded in secrecy. To an ordinary person it is seen as nothing more than make-believe, a product of a child's imagination, or the ramblings of a crazy person. But magic is very real. True magical abilities are extremely rare. Blaine was born a magic user. He grew up wanting to use his abilities to help people, but he knows he isn't allowed to expose magic. So Blaine opens a small candle store where he infuses small bits of magic (or potions) into his homemade candles – marketing them as aromatherapy candles to avoid suspicion. There are candles that help relax people, candles for motivation, ones to help improve a person's memory, others to reduce fatigue or minor aches & pains, etc.. When Kurt complains to a friend that he has trouble sleeping, they suggest going to Blaine's candle store, claiming that Blaine's candles have never failed them before. Kurt is skeptical but checks out the store anyway. He meets Blaine there, who after talking to him for a few minutes, makes a candle specifically for Kurt's needs. Kurt is amazed at how well the candle works, and goes back to the store to thank Blaine, which leads to them going on a date.*author has permission to change details as they see fit; this prompt is just a guide to help inspire - Preferred Rating: No preference - Triggers/Squicks to Avoid: N/A
