Lady Countryrose

Ch. 2

The days were becoming closer to the point of starting Hogwarts. With that, Hermione saw her adopted parents at least once a month. Even with Sirius at her side, when he wanted to learn from her old parents about her. Only to hear about a few embarrassing stories about how she had corrected some teachers. Only to hear Sirius belly laugh at some of them, only to cause her to blush.

Hermione looked at her old parents with worry. "Are you two alright, since I kind of…found my family?"

Helen nodded her head. "We have managed, Hermione. And to ease your mind, you are the only magic people that have been around us. There is nothing to worry about. But aren't you more excited about starting Hogwarts soon?"

Hermione smiled, "Yes, I am. I can't wait to learn new things, and I want to use my wand for something. Other than look at it, and have it look pretty."

Richard looked towards Sirius. "Tell us, how did you not know about Hermione being born? You never told us."

Sirius sighed, "I was working in law enforcement and was busy with a lot of cases. Plus, my best friend and his family were in danger and were put into hiding." He closed his eyes in despair. "My girlfriend was also put into hiding and since we were not married, I still have to do my job. After a while, when things calmed down, I couldn't find my girlfriend and didn't know anything about Hermione."

"Oh, I am sorry to hear that," stated Richard with sorrow in his voice. "I guess we can't be angry with that. Families have been split for less noble purposes than that. Do you still work in law enforcement?"

"Not really, they only call me in on big unsolved cases. But I am mainly retired." Sirius responded with the story that seemed feasible for everyone to accept. Most of it was what Hermione had come up with James. Since Sirius wasn't that much grounded in a way of thinking.

What Sirius wanted to tell them was that he was a spy like James Bond. Where he had gotten Ms. Penny, pregnant on a shakeout. Which Richard Granger would see right through, since he liked to read 007 books. At least what they came up with, was close to what his life was in the early eighties.

The Grangers had given Hermione a book series of myths and legends that they could find. Since they knew she would read all of them, before she left for Hogwarts.

Sirius sighed, he turned to look at Hermione with a smile. "When would you like to meet up with them again? Just so we can make plans."

Hermione turned towards the Grangers. "Would it be too much to ask, but I would like to have a campout again? Especially the weekend before I leave."

Helen smiled, "I think we can plan that for you, Hermione. I know that you wanted to do that for a while. What about you, Sirius? Would you want to come?"

Sirius shook his head. "No, I think this is something that seems more special for the three of you. You don't need me hanging around. I want her to have this with you two. It was something that you have started with her."

Helen cried as tears fell down her cheek. "Thank you, Sirius. You have no idea what this means to us."

"You're welcome, Helen." After a few more minutes. The Grangers hugged Hermione goodbye. Before the two went back to Potter Manor, where she was tackled by Harry when they reached the manor entryway.

"What took so long," he asked her, with a whimper in his voice.

Hermione gave him a playful glare. "You know, Harry, it's been a week since I had last seen them. Next weekend, I am planning to go camping with them. It was something that we had always done together."

Harry gave her a sad look. Before turning towards his own father. "Can we do some camping too? Even if it's on the property."

James smiled as his eyes sparkled. "I believe we can do that. Along with Dudley and who else is around."

Hermione had noticed a lot of things since moving in. Only to find how close Sirius, James and Remus were. It was nearly downright scary, when they had finished their sentences. It was enough for her to want a close friendship of her own.

Dudley had been quiet, since she had moved into the manor. He seemed to be angry. He only sought out people for chess or wanting someone to read to him. Hermione was mainly the one he wanted, when it came to reading to him.

James had been someone that Dudley would go for chess. Along with some choice words of asking him, why his father would fear him using magic. She had heard James tell him. "The people with no magic fear what they can't control. It has been that way since Merlin left our world to protect the dead body of King Arthur."

Dudley looked at James with worry. "Do you fear the no magic people, James?"

She had seen him take a deep breath. "Since the witch hunts in years long passed. We were taught to hide and fear them. Because they do have means to harm others. Even with their weapons, is enough to fear about."

Dudley nodded his head. "Yeah, I can see that." And that was enough for Dudley. He had stopped with his anger with his own father. But he had voiced his hopes to not seeing him for a while.

Petunia, for the most part, was someone with an iron will of her own. She had gone in and out of the manor with conviction on her face. When it was time for Hermione to leave for her camping trip, Petunia came into the manor, with a smile on her face.

"You seem happy, today, Petunia." It was odd to see how happy she was.

"First, where is everyone," the elder woman asked. She looked around the entryway that they were in.

"In the kitchen," answered Hermione. She then led the way towards the area of the house. Hearing Petunia following behind her.

When the two had entered the kitchen. Petunia called out to everyone within. "Hi, everyone." She walked over to Dudley and hugged him close. "Don't worry about your father, Dudley. He can't harm us anymore."

"Why is that, mummy?"

She smiled down at him. "I divorced him and someone helped me to erase the memory of you and me. So he wouldn't tell anyone about magic." Petunia had taken a deep breath. "He will not harm us anymore."

Sirius asked, "Who helped you with the memory erasing?"

Petunia smiled even more. "Severus did."

Sirius sighed but nodded his head. "Good, he was a good choice to do that for you." He had gotten up and grabbed himself a cup of coffee. Drank it down and then turned to Hermione with a smile. "Are you ready for your camping trip, Kitten?"

"I am," she smiled brightly up at him.

Sirius smiled back at her. "Where do you normally camp out, if you don't mind me asking?"

"The Forest of Dean, is outside of Gloucestershire, England." Her smile grew even wider. "It has a rich history there."

Out of all the people in the kitchen, Harry looked sad to see her leave. But it had always been like that, ever since they had met. She walked over to him and gave him a hug. "I will be back on Sunday, Harry."

Harry nodded his head. "I know, Mione. But you have been my best friend. I just never liked seeing you leave. If it isn't too much of a bother, could we have our own campout?"

Hermione smiled, "Sure, Harry." She gave him a squeeze of a hug and then allowed Sirius to take her to the Grangers. Even though she would miss her new family. She still wanted to spend what little time she could with the Grangers, who had raised her most of her life.
