A Hedgehog In Chaldea
Fuyuki (Part 1)
*Let's Continue Where We Left*
"Senpai. We have reached the point Doctor specified. There are only flams as far as the eye can see. It's nothing like the Fuyuki in our data. According to our data, it's an average regional city. There's no record of such a disaster occurring in 2004... The Mana density in the atmosphere is also abnormal. It's a lot like ancient Earth..." Mash stated
"I can picture this city of how beautiful it looked like before it turned into a wasteland now. And to be honest with you, this looks very similar to another city I've been through before back in my world. Fire in every direction, Smoke in the air, buildings destroyed, monsters terrorizing the city, you name it." Sonic said
"Kyaaaaaaaa!"
"Did you just hear that Mash?! What was that scream?!" Sonic said while looking around
"It was a woman's scream for sure. Let's head over and see what's happening, Senpai!" Mash said
*With Olga*
"Wh-What are these guys, anyway? Why do these things keep happening to me? I can't take it anymore! Come save me, Leff! You were always there for me right?" Olga said
"GI-GAAAAAAA!"
The monster lunges at Olga to attack her, but soon gets swept up and blown far away in the sky by a small tornado.
"Wh...What...? What the hell was that?!" Olga shocked
Soon after, Sonic runs up to Olga with a smile on his face.
"Haha! How's that for a performance there?! That was my old Spin and Win trick! An old personal favourite of mine if you ask me!" Sonic sad
Moments later, Mash catches both Sonic and Olga.
"Director Olga Marie! Thank goodness you're alive and okay! We heard a scream from far away but didn't think it was you we were going to run into!" Mash said
"Kyrielight! Explain to me what the hell is going on here! Most importantly, WHY is that Hedgehog here with you?!' Olga said
"I-I'm sorry Director... When the explosions happened, I was badly injured, but Sonic came to help me. Sadly we were locked in my coffin, and he was registered as the current acting Master. I take full responsibility for dragging him into this..." Mash said
"I-I can't believe this... This Hedgehog not only was able to shift, but he's able to make a contract with a Servant as well?! How did you become a Master? Only first-class Mages can enter contracts with Servants! Just what the hell are you?! Please, give me at least an answer you!" Olga said to Sonic
"Look lady, I'm just as confused about all of this as you are, I don't even know why I was chosen to be a Master for these Servants in the first place," Sonic said
"There's a misunderstanding, Director. I'm the one who forced the contract." Mash said
"What did you say?"
"I'll explain how it happened. That way we can understand each other's situation better."
*Mash Explains Everything On What Has Happened Up To This Point*
"...And that's how it happened. We were dragged into a Rayshift and teleported here to Fuyuki. No other Master candidates shifted with us. You're the only human we've run into, Director. But this gives me hope. If you're here, that means there must be other candidates who got teleported here..." Mash said
"...There aren't. That much I'm certain of..." Olga said
"Oh..." Mash said
Olga look's at Sonic and takes a deep breath.
"...Hedgehog, since it's an emergency I'll approve you and Kyrielight's contract. From here on out, you'll follow my commands. First, let's set up a base camp. Listen, this is the time to search for a Leline Terminal. A place where magical energy converges. There we'll be able to contact Chaldea. So in this town's case..."
"Do not worry Director, our location here is where the Ley point is. Sonic was able to get us here quickly if I may add." Mash said
"If it wasn't for us getting here in time. You would've been taken down by those monsters we just saw." Sonic said
"W-What?! Oh r-right, I knew that I knew that, of course! Mash, place your shield on the ground. I'm going to set up a summoning circle, with your Noble Phantasm as the catalyst." Olga said
"...So she says. Are you all right with that, Senpai?"
"Sure, go ahead and do it. I don't mind." Sonic said
"...Understood. now let us begin."
Moments later, Mash places her shield on the ground as the ground began to glow around the three. Moments later, the three teleported into an undisclosed location.
"Okay, I wasn't expecting anything like this to happen to us. Where exactly are we?" Sonic asks
"This is... The same as the summoning experiment chamber at Chaldea." Mash looking around
"CQ. CQ. Hello, hello? Okay, the connection's back! Good job, you secured the connection. Now we can communicate again, and even send rations..."
"Hey hey, it's good old Roman! I'm very glad to hear from you again bud! We manage to find that Director Lady from before inside this city, she's still crabby as ever of course. But I'm starting to get used to it." Sonic said
"First of all, I am NOT crabby! Secondly, what do you think you're doing inside command Archaman? What about Leff? Where's Leff? Put Leff on!" Olga demanded
"Waaaaaaahhhhhhh! D-Director, you're alive? And you're unharmed? What the..."
"I know it was a shocker for me as well, but here she is. Fine and doing well for herself." Sonic said
"What's that supposed to mean from you two? Where's Leff What's the head medic doing in charge?" Olga said
"Don't ask me why. I'm fully aware that I'm not cut out for this job. But there's nobody else, Olga Marie. Currently, the surviving full-time staff of Chaldea is less than twenty people, including me. The reason I'm in charge of operations Is that there's no one ranked higher than me who survived. Dr. Leff was supervising from the Command Room. There's no way he could survive that blast." Romani said
"No way... Leff... No, forget that wait... please wait. Less than 20 survivors? What about the Master candidates... the coffins?" Olga said
"...47, all in critical condition and we're short on medical supplies. We might be able to save a few, but all of them might be..."
"T-This can't be... Why is this all happening? Romani, put the candidates into Cryopreserve. We'll figure out how to revive them once the three of us return to Chaldea... Your top priority is to make sure they don't die!" Olga commanded
"I forgot the coffins had those functions! I'll get on it right away!"
"*Sigh* Why does everything go downhill whenever I'm around? I'm not doing anything. I feel truly awful for those people trapped in those Coffins things you guys mentioned. I hope we'll at least be able to save their lives, I'd hate to leave them all in there just to die..." Sonic looking down with guilt
"Don't blame yourself Sonic, it isn't your fault and never was. I'm confident we'll be able to save all the Masters. If Dr. Roman can get the communications to the outside working, we'll be able to radio in for help." Mash said
"Yeah... You're right Mash. We just gotta do what we can for now. Thanks, bud!"
"That surprises me. Cryopreservation without prior consent is a crime. Yet you made the decision right away. You put human lives ahead of your reputation as the director." Mash said
"Don't be stupid! As long as they're not dead, I can explain myself later - why else?" Olga responded
"Whoa whoa, don't get mad at her just because she told you something. It rubs me the wrong way whenever someone gets mad at someone else without any reason." Sonic said
"Stay out of this Hedgehog! I'm the one here making orders and you have to obey them, no butts... In the first place, 47 lives... There's no way can I carry that burden! Please don't die... I'm begging you... If only Leff were here!"
"...This concludes my report. Chaldea has lost 80% of its functionality. There's only so much that the remaining staff can do. I'm shifting available manpower to Rayshift repairs and maintaining Chaldeas' and Shiva's current states. As soon as external communications are back up, we'll request supplies and start rebuilding Chaldea." Romani said
"That's fine. I would've done the same if I were there... Ah. Romani Archaman. I don't like it, but until I return you're in charge of Chaldea. Make the Rayshift repairs your top priority. We'll be investigating this town. This Singularity F." Olga said
"Director, you're not afraid to be at ground zero? Since when did you become so brave?" Romani said
Sonic chuckles at the comment Romani made to Olga.
"...Seriously, you don't know when to shut up. I'd like nothing better than to go back now, but it's going to take time till you finish the Rayshift repairs. This town only contained low-level monsters, with Mash as a Demi-Servant we'll be safe. Accident or not, we Animuspheres pride ourselves on doing our best in the situation we're given." Olga said
"For once, I finally agree with you on something," Sonic said
"I'll be looking into Singularity F with Sonic and Mash Kyrielight as investigators. That said, since my field staff is inexperienced, the extent of this mission will be to discover the cause of this anomaly. Analysis and eradication will have to wait until after Chaldea's restored, and I can send in a second team. You okay with that, Sonic?" Olga asks
"I would rather much prefer resolving this whole thing quickly, but I'm also okay with what you just said," Sonic responded
"Roger that. Best of luck to you, Director, Mash, and Sonic. We can now communicate in short bursts. Feel free to contact me in an emergency." Romani said
"...Huh! Even if we sent an SOS, nobody would come to our rescue."
"Director?"
"Nothing, I'm cutting off the connection. Just go do your job as told." Olga said before cutting the connection
"...Director, are you sure about this? There's also the option of waiting here for the rescue." Mash asks
"I can't afford to do that... After we return to Chaldea, who knows how long it will take to select the next team? A month won't be enough to gather personnel or funds. Do you know much the Association will harass me in the meantime? Worst case, they'll blame me for mismanagement, and I'll lose Chaldea to them. If that came to pass, I'm screwed. I can't go back empty-handed. I need something that will shut them the hell up! Sorry, but you're both stuck with me, Mash, Sonic. Come on, let's explore this town. The cause of this twisted history must be here somewhere." Olga said
*At The Bridge*
After some time, the three finally make it to an area where a bridge was located at.
"Man, everywhere we go, it's nothing but fire and buildings destroyed. It's almost as similar to that city in my world." Sonic looks around his surrounding
"Stop. before we start exploring the city, Sonic, isn't there something you want to say to me?" Olga said
"I-I don't have anything to say to you, Olga. But even if I did have something to say, you'll braid me either way." Sonic replied
"Are you serious?! Are you assuming that every time I speak, I'm just some mean person who likes to talk down to others?" Olga irritated
"Look, I know when we aren't in situations like this. You can be a nice person, I know you generally are one. But ever since we first began talking to each other, it's been nothing but talking smack to each other back and forth." Sonic said
"Because I still don't know who you truly are! I'm still questioning how you even became a Master, even though you just arrived in our world!" Olga said
"I'm still questioning myself on that as well! I don't know how I became a Master if I've just arrived in this world. I'm sorry, I don't have any answers to your questions." Sonic said
"You give me a headache hedgehog, you know that?" Olga said
"And you rub me the wrong way, Olga. With your attitude towards me, I won't allow that." Sonic said
The two get into each other faces with angry looks on their faces. As they were angrily staring at each other, they heard a growling sound getting closer to the three of them. They all look and notice skeletons holding swords walking toward them.
"Save the talking for later you two. Enemies are incoming!" Mash said
"Heh, those enemies will soon regret ever attacking us. Let's get going, Mash!" Sonic said
"Understood."
"Hey, come back!"
"I'll go first!" Sonic said
Sonic begins running toward the skeletons at high speed. The skeletons begin charging toward Sonic as well with their swords over their skulls. Sonic curls into a ball, rev's up and spin-dashes into the Skeletons, knocking them back and into the ground. Mash runs past Sonic as she jumps straight up into the air with her shield above herself, comes back down and slams her shield down at the Skeletons, breaking them to pieces. Moments later, more skeletons appear as they all charge toward Mash. But before they could all attack her, Sonic jumps right in front of the skeletons and performs a double-hitting "break-dance" spinning kick, creating air currents that were surrounding him, forming a miniature tornado and destroying the Skeleton enemies in an instance.
"Now that's what I like to call, break dancing!" Sonic said
"You did amazing, Sonic! I saw someone use dancing as one of their fighting moves." Mash said
"Thank you, Mash," Sonic replied
"A Hedgehog who can fight? Every time this Hedgehog does something new, it's more questions than answers for me." Olga said
"So... now that those enemies have been taken care of. What do you want to talk about, Olga?" Sonic walks toward's Olga
"O-Oh... U-Uh... do you know the type of being we call Servants, you know what they are, don't you?" Olga asks Sonic
"Well, you're in luck, I do have some basic knowledge of what Servants are!" Sonic said
"Glad to finally hear something good from you. Now I won't have to explain rudimentary things like what a Heroic Spirit is. Servants are heroes of the past made into familiars. Those who enter into a contract with them and use them are Masters. There are seven classes of servants, which vary depending on a Servant's legends and abilities. It's incredibly difficult to copy a Heroic Spirit entirely. Human mages do not have enough resources or memory to achieve such a feat. That's why only one aspect of a Heroic Spirit is fixed in our world, resulting in the seven classes. Saber, Lancer, Archer, Rider, Caster, Berserker, Assassin. Every Heroic Spirit will manifest as one of these classes. That's the true nature of Servants... It's also a way to hide their True Names, as well. They hide their names because they are famous. Take Achilles from Greek Mythology. Achilles is an invincible Heroic Spirit, but his weakness is extremely famous, right? When a Heroic Spirit returns, their weakness returns with them. That's why Servants hide their names behind their class names. If you don't know their identity, it's harder to figure out their past or weaknesses, right? That's not all. There's another reason for hiding one's True Name. A Servant has a secret weapon worthy of their legend. The crystallization of that Heroic Spirit's miracle and existence."
All of a sudden, more enemies appear around Mash, Olga, and Sonic. They were Skeletons once again but this time, instead of wielding swords, they were wielding spears.
"Sorry to interrupt you two while you're having fun but we've detected hostiles. Entering combat." Mash said
"What! T-Take them out right now! I-I'll be hiding over here!" Olga said
"These guys are starting to annoy me. It's time to teach these guys another lesson." Sonic said
Sonic charges at the skeletons very fast and the Skeletons charge toward Sonic as well. While running, Sonic rolls briefly on the ground and delivers a kick at one of the skeletons while sliding across the ground, sending the skeleton upwards. Moments later, Mash jumps towards the Skeleton that was airborne and slams her Shield right on top of it, sending it back down and slamming it down towards the ground, breaking it in half before fading away and disappearing. As Mash landed back down, another skeleton charged at her from behind with their spear ready and was about to stab her with it until Sonic stops the Skeleton by performing a powerful overhead kick from a frontwards somersault, knocking the skeleton to the ground before fading away and disappearing. Moments later, Mash notices another skeleton charging at her with their spear, ready to attack her but manages to jump over the skeleton, landing behind it and knocking it towards Sonic with her shield. Sonic notices the Skeleton and performs a roundhouse kick towards it and sends it flying to a broken wire pole and slamming into it before fading away. The last two Skeleton both charge at Sonic with their spears ready to attack him. Sonic turns and notices the two Skeletons running toward him, he didn't have time to react and was about to get stabbed by the spears until Mash jumps in front of Sonic and blocks the attacks with her shield.
"And that's the last of them," Mash said
"I hope you all learned your lesson," Sonic said
"It's all over, Olga. You can come out now." Sonic said
Olga comes out of her hiding spot with an irritated look on her face.
"...I can feel the tension across the screen... The Director is grumpy as usual." Romani said
"You could say that again," Sonic said
"Well, I can feel some sympathy for the Director's ill-temper. Excuse me, but Sonic Senpai, there's too much about Chaldea you don't know. You don't know anything about Chaldea at all. You're still very new to all this." Mash said
"Well, I can't argue with that. I came here completely clueless." Sonic said
"I don't know what to do with you. It's like you're a lost little kitty. Well, not that I'm any different. I started working here 2 years ago, and I still don't get it. I kind of sneaked in. Almost like an alligator." Mash said
"Is that so, Mash?" Sonic asks
"Yes," Mash responded
"Don't worry about too much, that's pretty much how I entered as well," Sonic said
"I've learned as much as I can from the database. But I'll share it with you. Chaldea Security Organization. Or more accurately, the Security Organization for the Preservation of Humanity fines Chaldea. A research observatory to continue and strengthen human history, with researchers, scholars, and mages from all around the world. But in your case, a creature from a completely different world. They watch a world that magecraft couldn't observe, and science couldn't measure. We're a special Organization with national support, created to prevent humanity from reaching a "bad end." Mash said
"Man, this is one of the darkest things I've ever heard in my entire life. Not even Egghead back home wouldn't do such a thing to Humanity. I have to say, Mash, you know a lot more than what you think you think you know." Sonic said
"T-Thank you, Sonic. Anyway, that's pretty much it."
"Fou!"
"Chaldea indeed receives financial support from across the globe, but the majority of that comes from the Mage's Association in London... From the Animusphere family. Director Olga Marie's family. Chaldea is a research organization, but due to its importance, it operates on a military level. There are extremely strict rules and punishments for everything, so the Director's attitude is reserved. The Director isn't a villain, but she is evil. She'll get rid of any staff member she doesn't like." mash said
"Hold up a second... so all this time, I have been arguing with someone important for the Chaldea research organization and she can get rid of me any second if I was a member just because she doesn't like me and has talked back to her on multiple occasions," Sonic said
"Yes," Mash responded
"Well... that's a first. Never thought I'll be having arguments with someone as important as Olga. But here we are." Sonic said
"Well, I'm not if it's okay to call someone who's got a bad attitude, evil. Sorry, I wanted to give you some encouragement, but I'm not used to cheery words." Mash said
"Kyu. Kyu, kyu!"
Moments later, more Skeleton enemies appear.
"Whaaaaaat? Hey! What are you guys doing? Behind you! Behind you! The enemy's found us! Prepare for battle!" Olga shouted
"They're so close! Senpai, give me your orders!" Mash said
"Just do what's best for you, Mash. Now come on, let takes down these creeps!" Sonic said
"Understood!"
Moments later, Sonic and Mash begin charging toward the Skeleton enemies. One of the Skeleton enemies began charging toward Sonic and Mash with their swords ready to attack. Sonic performs a thrust to propel his body forward through and sticks his legs outward and attacks the skeleton while spinning multiple times before knocking it back and hitting the other Skeleton in the process. Soon after, Mash dashes toward both Skeletons and crushes them with her shield, causing them to shatter like broken glass and pieces of bone flying in every direction. However, one of the broken bone pieces cuts Mash's arm and begins to bleed. Mash notices the injury in her left arm and covers it with her right hand. Moments later, two more skeletons appear and were charging at Mash. Before they can even get close to Mash, Sonic jumps right in front of the skeletons and performs a somersault/bicycle kick and knocks one of them upwards and into the air. He soon jumps toward the airborne Skeleton and performs a powerful downwards midair kick and slams directly downward towards the other Skeleton with one foot and creating an aura field. Soon after, the two Skeleton enemies faded as Sonic turns around and runs toward Mash to see if she was okay.
"Are you okay, Mash?" Sonic asks
"Yea, I'm fine. Just a little cut I got from a broken piece of a bone." Mash showing Sonic the cut on her arm
"Just hang on tight, I-I'll find something to heal you," Sonic said
"Sigh... Please keep an eye on your surroundings you two. Even if Romani is monitoring us, this is a Singularity. There's no telling what might happen. Come here, Kyrielight. You're hurt, aren't you? I can heal something like that." Olga said
"Oh... right. Thank you very much, Director Olga Marie." Mash thanking Olga
"Now. When the Director is calm, she can be dependable... Sonic, you should know... The Director is in a complicated position as well. Three years ago, the previous director, her father, passed away and she had to take over Chaldea when she was just a student. Since then it's been one tense day after another. She had to take over as head of the Animusphere family. It was all she could do to keep Chaldea running. Around that time, an anomaly was found in Chaldeans. We could no longer see into the promised future of 100 years from now. There was huge criticism from the Association and our sponsors. She was ordered to get the situation back to normal as soon as possible. To make matters worse, they found that she had no aptitude to be a Master. The noble Animusphere family, one of the Twelve Lords, is the dominating faculty of Astronomy at the Mage's Association. Oh, the scandal that would occur if the head of such a family was found to be unfit to become a Master. You can imagine the level of gossip happening behind the scenes. I'm sure those rumours reached Marie too. She still worked to be her absolute best as Director. This last half-year, she's just barely been hanging on. She's worked herself so hard, I'd like her to come for counselling, but with how things are... In any event, she's been emotionally stretched to the limit. I have seen you guys arguing over and over for the past several minutes. I know you two didn't start well, but deep down, you both don't hate each other or anything like that." Romani said
"I know that we didn't have a good start. But I do know for sure that Olga is not an evil person to me at all. And after hearing everything that you said about Olga's time being in Chaldea, I would like to apologize to her and return all the negative stuff I said to her. I did not mean to be another burden to her already stressful job. Especially for right now. I'll try my best not to annoy her as much in the future." Sonic apologizing
"I'm glad you're owning up to your mistakes and I respect you for that. But you know she is evil for the rest of us, right? She isn't cruel, nefarious, and dishonest, that I can promise you. She's just a rather serious person." Romani said
"Yea, I've seen that side of her already," Sonic said
"Yea. Anyway, you're the only three I can trust right now. I want you to continue investigating without fighting."
"Sounds good to me," Sonic said
