Chapter 3: Sirens and Kansens
Hermione sighed heavily, "I'm sorry about him, but he likes to vent his frustration on people" she apologized "He's not well-liked around here. Especially by us Kansens".
"Oh, and why is that?" Arthur asked. Based on Hermione's wording he senses the potential discrimination of hierachy classes. It seems that man, a human, has a grudge of sorts against Kansens, whatever they are.
"He served a navy crew before the siren war started. Back then several hundreds of humans controlled a military warship. However, when Sirens invaded our lands and oceans, they quickly destroyed our navies. It was an one-sided slaughter." Hermione replied.
Sounds like an typical alien invasions in many fictions.
"Desparately to fight back against Sirens, humans invented wisdom cubes which created us. Navies no longer need hundreds of people operating a ship when you can get the ship to command itself. Therefore, the number of navy jobs has been rapidly decreasing. Sailors and officers lost their jobs. The only human personnel around are the commanders, who operate in fleet commands. Commanders has been holding grudge about it since their friends and families lost their dreams to serve the navy."
That gave him a lot of information about this earth. These Sirens, whatever they may be, must be powerful. if they forced the locals to build ships that can be controlled by a single person. These Kansens must be humans who have been augmented with some kind of tech that allows them to command an entire ship all by themselves. are casualties that bad?. How many of these Kansens are they building and losing in this war?.
He shook his head. He is speculating again. He knew nothing about this war, so it is pointless to speculate on how bad it was.
"So he's annoyed that your kind has replaced the majority of the world's navies," Arthur said.
"Yes, my friends and sisters suffered harmful acts because of it. Rudeness and harassment have been not just his attitudes, but also the rest of the commanders to us Kansens" Hermione said "I cannot disobey his orders because he's the commander of the Azur Lane. I don't know why the Eagle Union allowed him to be appointed as its commander, but they did." she said before she turns off the room's light
"I see, I am very sorry to hear that." sighed Arthur. These Kansens have not done anything wrong but they are treated like lower class citizens.
"That's plenty of talk for now. You should get some rest" she said.
Arthur nodded and laid back in bed. Today has been rather intense. He cannot remember what happened to him before he found himself on the island, but one thing in this world sounds weirdly familiar to him.
War, especially one against the threat of the entire humanity. Did he experience something related to warfare in the past? Was he a soldier or officer? There are plenty of questions he needs to ask and the Kansens probably have the same idea.
He closed his eyes. He'll have to think about what he'll do later, once he knows more about this world.
