So here is chapter two! :) Enjoy and good night (it's now 2:38 AM here)
Chapter 2: The state bank
How did that boy get under her skin so suddenly? With a slight blush still on her cheeks, she tried to comprehend wat had just happened. Was it because he was genuinely concerned of her well-being? Everyone always saw her as this indestructible fighting machine. And to top it all off, she was seen as this spoiled rich kid who didn't had a care in the world. If someone was concerned about any well-being, it was about theirs, not hers. But Gohan seemed different, unaffected by her status or fame.
She thought back to their first real encounter. Gohan was heralded by the teacher as this child prodigy that everybody should take an example from. He looked nervous, scratching the base of his neck as he tried to introduce himself properly. But the damage was already done. He was immediately labeled a nerd and had it not been for her best friend Erasa, Gohan would have ended up friendless.
The slim bubbly blond always took a liking to the innocent ones. And oh boy, Gohan was the definition of innocence. No matter how much Erasa tried, her flirting just didn't land. And after a few weeks, she gave up on the quite handsome teen with the dark spikey hair and the onyx eyes. However, her efforts resulted in Gohan now being included in their small group of friends. And now, for about two and a half months, Videl, Erasa, Sharpner and Gohan got along very well together.
But now Videl thought about it, she still didn't know much about the guy. Gohan came from the countryside and she knew his family owned a farm. Furthermore, he was kind, ignorant about almost everything, thought a lot about food and was genuinely caring. But that pretty much summed it all up. She realized that Gohan never spoke about himself and she never bothered to get to know him herself. The fact that she just learned he could fly a copter made her curious about what else she could learn about the guy. She decided to bomb him tomorrow with all kind of questions.
Her copter's radio crackled and a tinny voice echoed through her cockpit. She jumped a bit and lost nearly lost control of her vehicle. Damnit, was she that disaccustom to being called by the police?
"Videl, this is the sheriff speaking. We need all the help we can get. There's a bank robbery going on and -" There was a loud explosion on the other end of the line, followed by some cursing from the sheriff himself. He recovered and continued, "Prepare yourself, this group is clearly organized and it looks like they're willing to go down in the process."
"Alright, I'm on my way," and with a jerk on the steering wheel, she headed for the state bank.
In the distance she could see a big plume of smoke. That was probably from that explosion earlier. A few minutes later, she landed next to the sheriff's car. As she jumped out of her copter and decapsuled it, the sheriff gave her a status report.
"The group consists of a minimum of 5 people. Three of them are apparently freed from prison this morning, which has just been confirmed. One other is known to us as the mastermind behind a series of robberies, but we never found his whereabouts. The last time we heard of him was six months ago," he looked over at the bank. "I think they've gathered the best man just to successfully rob the state bank."
Videl followed his gaze. "What about the last person?"
"That's the one on watch, he's unknown to us," the sheriff replied. "Sorry"
"Any hostages?"
"Yes, three employees and two costumers. One of which is the mayor," the sheriff looked at Videl. "We assume they knew the mayor would be there today. They're using him to negotiate their escape." He sighed, "Whatever happens, the mayor has to get out of there as soon as possible – alive, of course"
"Don't worry," Videl replied, "Everyone is getting out of there alive!" And with that, she stepped over the barrier tape that the police had put up.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a man land on the corner of a nearby building. He was dressed in a black bodysuit topped with a green gi, a red cape and a stupid helmet with two antennas on either side. Ugh, just what she needed, Saiyaman.
She decided to ignore him and focus solely on the task at hand. Videl ran to hearing distance and announced her presence to the criminal on guard.
"Yo baldy, I want to speak to the person in charge here," Videl smirked, it had been too long since she'd felt this excitement.
At the entrance of the bank, a lanky-looking man dressed in a white dress shirt, blue tie and slightly disheveled jeans repositioned his silver-colored glasses on his nose. "What do ya want girl, this ain't no place for ya," he responded.
"Do you have any idea who I am?" Videl fell into her fighting stance. She loved the adrenalin rush she was getting. "I am the daught-"
" '-er of Mister Satan, the world savior.' Yeah, yeah, we know," he said mockingly. "I'll tell ya again, this ain't no place for you. Go home, kid, while ya still can. I don't want to use my gun on you, but I will if ya won't go." When he said that, he raised his arm to rest the barrel of his oversized. Oddly-shaped firearm on his right shoulder.
"I'm not afraid of you or your gun," Videl insisted, and she began to charge the guy.
"Randy, bring ya ass over here!" shouted the bald man.
Videl stopped her attack when a monster of a man came through the front door of the bank. His wiry appearance was tucked into a black sleeveless shirt and his bleached long hair fell over his shoulders. He grinned with excitement when he saw Videl, showing his missing tooth in the process.
Videl knew that face. This Randy was no ordinary man, but a former participant of the 24th Martial Arts Tournament. He fought her father in the semifinals. And to be completely honest, that was no easy battle either.
She swallowed. This was perhaps more than she could chew.
"My, my, look what we've got here," the big man said. He pointed to his missing tooth, "You see this? That was your father's doing." He then pointed to Videl. "Now I'll knock out some of yours, just for fun, before I kill you." His grin widened.
"What if I make that smile of yours symmetrical again before I knock you out," Videl snapped back and then she charged.
She kicked Randy in the right side of his neck, only to be grabbed by the back of her shirt and thrown back onto the concrete. He immediately tried to stamp on her head, but she deftly dodged him. With that same motion, she got up and planted her fist underneath his ribs, right where his gallbladder should be.
Randy gasped in pain, "You bitch, you'll pay for that!" Than he charged and tried to strike Videl with two fists at once.
She jumped out of the way just in time. If that had hit her, she was definitely a goner. Videl didn't had much time to recover from her evasive jump, as Randy struck with another blow. She dodged his attack and planted a knee into his crotch. The time for playing nice was over.
Randy again growled in anger and managed to grab one of her legs. He swirled her over his head and threw her into one of the police cars. Glass clattered on the ground as she was getting up. Her shirt was torn and her ankle was definitely bruised. She stumbled away from the car and yet again fell into her fighting stance.
"Videl, pull back," the sheriff's voice came through a megaphone.
Videl spat the blood from her mouth onto the concrete. "This is getting personal, I'm not backing down!" And yet again, she charged at the criminal.
Heart-pounding minutes passed as the two clashed. Fists, elbows, knees and feet went in all directions and at one point Videl managed to knock out one of Randy's teeth. This infuriated him, but he wasn't able to counterattack. His lack of stamina got the better of him and Videl was still very quick on her feet.
She took a leap and planted her elbow right at the back of his neck. Randy stumbled and fell face forward onto the floor. Videl landed on her feet and straightened her posture. But before she could do anything else, three loud bangs where heard.
It all happened so fast. There was a big gust of wind and when Videl could open her eyes, Saiyaman stood in front of her, his arm raised in an defensive position.
"Sorry Miss Videl, but I had to intervene," he said in his bombastic made-up voice. He looked to his raised arm and was surprised to see three - what looked like- tranquilizer darts sticking out of it.
"O my God! I just hit him! Guys, I just hit Saiyaman!" the bald man at the door shouted ecstatically at his fellow accomplices. The front door of the bank cracked open as the other criminals wanted to witness it for themselves.
Videl heard Saiyaman click his tongue in annoyance, and with another gust of wind he attacked the criminals in front of them. In a minute or two it was all over. Saiyaman dragged the 4 unconscious criminals to the one Videl had knocked out herself. He then walked over to her.
"Is everything alright, Videl?" asked a gentle but concerned voice.
She was completely stunned by his change in voice. This wasn't this fake bombastic annoying voice he normally used. This sounded so... normal. And really familiar too.
"Yes... yes I'm fine,"
Saiyaman bent down to pick up one of the darts, "Did one of these hit you?"
"No, they didn't"
"Good. What about your other injuries?" Videl noticed his voice weakening a little.
"I already told you, I'm fine," she crossed her arms as she said that. She felt her irritation coming back.
"Alright, if you say so," said Saiyaman softly. Then he turned, staggering a bit in the process, and with the highest speed Videl had ever seen him fly, he took off.
Writer's note: I'm aware of Gohan's bulletproof skin. Just be patient ;).
