Chapter 2
Author's note:
Do you like my last chapter? Pls read, review and comment
I was actually quite surprised by the number of people who read my story on the first day of publishing, now the number stands at 70-something. I thought that I would only 10 people would read my story or something, but reality has proven otherwise.
Without further ado, let us delve into Site-19.
"What does the computer mean? What light? And what was it trying to tell us by saying they were 'dragged into the light'?" The scientist ranted while mulling over the contents of the text box on the screen. I pointed to the security camera detailing the outsides of the facility. Blood-red light was shining down onto the facility, while masses of congregated flesh were gurgling and slithering and merging with each other. It was as if Hell had merged with our reality.
"It's the sun. No bodies left, as they were all dragged outside and Turned," I stated. The scientist went silent, though judging from his haggard look, it must have been weighing heavily on his heart. "Rewind the camera footage, from 10:00 AM this morning. We need to know what is happening. Whatever hit the site was so fast that security was unable to form an effective response. We also need to have more information on these things if we want to kill them all."
" You got a death wish or something? Are you gonna hand over control of the entire facility to SCP-079, a computer that would love to kill everyone if it has the chance? We don't even know its full capabilities if it manages to hook up to the Automated Defense System of the Site! Besides, you would get terminated by MTF as a rogue staff member!" Seriously? Was the damn scientist still talking about following "proper containment procedures" when shit has hit the fan?
"Just review the damn tape, I - no, we must know what hit our site so hard. " I replied, fumbling over the controls on the screens. We both watched with bated breath while the camera rewinded. For five minutes or something, everything was fine. After that, all of a sudden, my eyes picked up something present in the blue sky-an anomaly, which should not be there.
The sun was not yellow. It was red.
Like blood.
Within moments, the blood-red colour spread across the blue tapestry of the sky, tainting it an evil red. The guards outside were dumbfounded, some of them pointing at the sun with their hands and muttering to each other. The staff indoors quickly crowded to the windows to see what was happening.
Then they melted. They all melted into a pile of goo. The screams started.
The guards were the first to go-Their flesh started melting and pooling around them, the flesh becoming red and orange puddles within seconds. The ones who had been exposed to the sunlight through the windows, though, did not have the mercy of dying quickly. Limbs and areas of the skin began to melt, skin and flesh and muscle and bone slowly liquefying in front of them.
The screams were so horrible, so desperate. A few guards indoors tried to shoot themselves, but they would not die. A researcher took out a knife(I DO think he is a Chaos Insurgent since researchers don't carry weapons around, but that's not the point), and tried to amputate his melting arm, and for a moment it seemed to work. However, to his horror, his shoulder also began liquefying.
At this point, the scientist seemed to be on the verge of a nervous breakdown. We tried to look away, just stop seeing the horrifying scenes on the screens, but we could not. We could not find the strength to peel our eyes away from it. Burning and imprinting the sight into our memories.
I wish I had closed my eyes back then. Because the scene of them rising back up was even more terrifying and disgusting.
Slowly, a tangled mass of limbs began to rise from the puddles, taking vaguely humanoid shapes. Zooming in on a few revealed the shapes started to look a bit like the people before they melted. Only vaguely, like they were trying to put themselves back together but couldn't remember what they looked like. Their faces-oh god, don't get me started. Some had empty disfigured sockets where the eyes should have been, others had their nose gone, with only a hole remaining.
By this point, everyone who was not affected was running away, away from the scene. The on-site security battalion opened fire on the masses of flesh, to no avail. The flesh just kept on shrugging off the bullets and pushing forward, grabbing people and dragging them outside. As more and more people melted, they started to merge with each other, forming even larger unholy abominations. Bullets were completely useless against them now. The security lieutenant in charge gave the order to fall back.
That was when some of the flesh-beasts started to seep into the vents. And dropped down onto unsuspecting researchers and guards trying to flee back into the facility. One of them leapt into the Site Administrator's office by surprise and dragged the man towards the nearest window.
A thought crept into my head and my heart began beating faster as I realized what I was looking at. "Rewind that a few minutes," I said. I needed to be sure. If I was right then this was bad.
"Are you sick or something? I'm not goddamn doing it for you!" The scientist screamed at me. He was nearing his breaking point, standing right on the edge of that dark pit few people ever crawl back out of. I noticed a ring on his finger, and my thoughts wandered to his newly wed wife Chloe. She was one of the researchers in charge of SCP-272, the Old Iron Nail. Looking at the cafeteria closely, I saw her struggling while one of the flesh creatures dragged her to the window, then turning into another of those things.
"Look at what they're doing." I started to explain, ignoring my own trip to the edge of the dark abyss. "They're not just killing people. They're focusing on senior members in the Foundation. Security lieutenants. The Site Director and the people with level 4 access. Those with access to the on-site Alpha Warheads. I was only spared as I was inside the Heavy Containment Zone when this happened. They are even ignoring the people running towards the gates. Oh shit, the gates-"
I could only watch in horror as terrified, fleeing guards and researchers who didn't seem to realize the true threat starts to unlock Gates A and B in a desperate attempt to escape the monsters that their friends had become not five minutes ago.
Only for a wall of flesh to pour inside and sweep up every single one of them as they were quickly pulled outside, realizing too late that the freedom they thought they were running to was nothing more than a trap.
Masses of flesh grabbed people and pulled them into a giant flesh-blob, absorbing their mass after turning them, before crawling back into the gates. At this moment, both of the gates slammed shut. Ah, must be the work of SCP-079.
Not a moment too late. The large flesh masses could only scream in rage while pounding at the gates, which were made to withstand Depleted Uranium piercing rounds.
Apparently, the remaining security forces in the Entrance Zone decided to have their final stand in the hallway connecting the Heavy Containment Zone and the Entrance Zone. Thousands after thousands of bullets were fired, grenades were thrown, but it was useless. Blobs of flesh kept on dropping down from the most unsuspecting places, ambushing them and dragging them to the light. Soon, the security force was no more.
Switching the cameras to the Light Containment Zone, things were even grimmer. D-class tried to rebel against their wardens in a desperate attempt to escape the facility once and for all, while security mowed them down without mercy. Flesh-blobs kept on dragging security and researchers to the Entrance Zone. Soon, no one was left there. Only bodies of the D-class, spent shell casings, and blood.
And then the containment chambers unlocked.
Poor bastards never stood a chance.
Some remaining D-Class and a few desperate guards even tried hiding inside of the containment chambers, only to meet a predictable end from their inhabitants.
From there the SCP's collectively turned their attention to the flesh creatures. A pack of SCP-939's charged the main collective of flesh, some flesh monsters seemed to get cut out of thin air which I assume is the work of SCP-966, and I could see a mob of flesh running away from the cell housing SCP-096 and ohshitohshitohshit.
I saw his face.
I screamed at the other researcher," DO NOT LOOK AT THE SCREEN! REPEAT, DO NOT LOOK AT THE SCREEN! SCP-096 IS ON THE SCREEN!" At that moment, SCP-079 seemed to understand what was happening and cut off the cameras near 096.
Okay. Enough recon. I know what I'm up against. I know what I have to do. I have a job, time to get it done. SCP-096 will kill me soon after the flesh blobs are dead, might do one last mission as the Security Commander.
I yelled at the scientist," Okay, dude, you stay here and check the monitors. Sit tight. SCP-079 has been closing off every security door the flesh masses are near, so the big ones won't be a problem. It's the ones hiding in the vents who worry me. At least they are slightly less durable than the big ones. I will be going to the Administrator's Office and shutting down the anti-virus system so that SCP-079 can connect to the entire facility and activate remaining security defenses. You got it?"
Shivering, the scientist said, "Yes… I guess…"
"Good."
I laid out what needed to be done for the other two. The scientist didn't even seem to hear me. He just kept staring at the monitors showing the Entrance Zone, praying to whatever God was out there that he could find his wife. I don't think he remembers 079 telling us there was no one left who was not turned. Or maybe he just didn't believe it like I hadn't at first.
I walked to the door and I turned back to the doc. "Keep this door locked until I get back. The vents in here should be too small for anything to get through and even if it can, it's not a threat until it groups together. This door is the only way in and out of here, so you should be safe." I tried reassuring him, but I don't think it worked. He was twisting that ring on his finger, muttering under his breath staring at the monitors. I wanted to help him, but there was nothing I could do for him. I'm not a shrink dammit, I just shoot things and yell at people.
Taking out my keycard and swiping it on the Level 3 Armory access door, I grabbed the Micro H.I.D. firearm lying inside. The full name of the weapon was the Micro High-Intensity Electrical Discharge Thrower Prototype Firearm, and I heard that the scientists made it in 914 by throwing a machine gun in. Whatever. I remember everyone not in a lab coat rolling their eyes when the scientists explained their great creation. You pull the trigger and a few seconds later it shoots a devastating laser beam. It's a gun. It was created as a prototype for potential upgrades to the weaponry for those guarding the SCP's. In a prior containment breach, it even stunned SCP-106 long enough for us to recontain him. I gotta admit, it is a powerful baby to have around.
As I approached the checkpoint separating us from ground zero of this whole mess. I looked into the camera where I figured SCP-079 was watching us from. After a nod, the doors at the checkpoint began to unlock, and I stepped through into what I can only describe as the aftermath of hell. Blood and gore covered the other side of the door, the walls, the ceiling, everywhere. Not a pretty sight. Swallowing back down the bile trying to come up my throat, I pressed on down the hallway. Really the Admin office wasn't that far away, just up one more flight of stairs down the hall and past all the cubicles in the main office area would lead us right to the door of the Admin's office. My heart felt like it was about to jump straight out of my chest, and part of me wondered if the monsters could hear it from wherever they were hiding.
Passing the cubicles of scattered desks, evidence of people trying to hide under them only to be pulled from their hiding spot littering the floor. I could see the admin office just in front of us. So far nothing had happened. Maybe the monsters thought everyone was dead and just weren't looking for us anymore? I could only hope that was the case, and their main concern was the SCP's locked away below us. As long as they were looking down there, they wouldn't see us up here, right? Right? I could only hope so.
Breaking into a sprint, I ran into the Administrator's office. However, the flesh had been expecting me. Four masses of flesh, each two meters tall and three feet wide, were gurgling and moaning, limbs appearing from their bodies to drag me in. Pulling the trigger on the Micro H.I.D. back, I fired the laser at them. It was goddamn effective. Within seconds, screeches could be heard from the flesh-blobs, and they turned black in colour and stopped writhing. I guess that's the way how to kill them, at least the small ones…
Walking over to the Administrator's console on the desk, I punched several letters on the keyboard, until a prompt appeared, asking if I was sure to deactivate the anti-virus. I pressed "Yes".
Within seconds, there were whirring sounds from the facility, and SCP-079's voice from the Administrator's console," Human. Get out of the area now. Tesla Gates have been deployed and will be active in 60 seconds. You have my word you will not be harmed.
All surviving SCP's will be instructed that you and the others are to be considered "off-limits".
Failure to comply will result in their termination.
We survive together or not at all.
"
Well, at least I wouldn't have to worry about 096 raging over me looking at his face…
"Raising on-site thermonuclear blast shields in order to repel all sources of sunlight from entering the facility. All unknown entities in the facility have been purged. Human, the mission has been a success. "
"How many Foundation personnel remaining in the facility?"
"One. The other committed suicide with an M1911 pistol. "
Oh no… So the other scientist decided to kill himself, probably devastated as his wife was turned… I'm truly the only one left, in this facility, perhaps the last one in this world…
"Alert. Foundation tram has arrived at Site-19. No surviving human on board. "
Yup, I am the last one.
Teaser:
Volt and his men roared in laughter, as Alicia was brought before him. Volt currently had Prim, who was stripped naked, on his lap, thrusting furiously into her. Tears were in Prim's eyes, as she whispered softly, "Alicia, you lied… You said you would protect me…"
Alicia screamed, "Beasley, you promised you would leave Prim out of this! YOU PROMISED!" while Beasley just smiled at her, and Hicks went forward, sticking his cock into her mouth. Volt sneered, "If you don't pleasure all the men here well, perhaps your sweet little Prim will take your place as a whore!"
