Chapter 4

Author's Note:

Yes, while I know the protag is in Kuroinu already, however, since the poll has not yet been finished, meeting the main cast will be put on hold for a while. For now, the story will focus on meeting some villagers and fighting a highly anomalous threat. "Insert the Final Flash of Existence song here"

Now, without further ado, let us delve into Kuroinu!

As I groggily opened my eyes, I saw that I was lying on the hard steel floor in the Heavy Containment Zone Warhead Shelter. Standing up, I slowly walked towards the blast doors, which SCP-079 opened immediately. A quick scan from 079 showed that the facility had suffered minimal reality damage as a direct result of the jump, thankfully. However, the Entrance Zone suffered multiple CK-Class Reality Shifts, bringing in several instances of the flesh-blobs into the facility, all of the damned things hiding in the vents. They were like landmines, both appearing to be unsuspecting and safe until you step too close and… yeah, you know what happens next. Not pretty, that's a sure fact. The affected sections inside the Zone were immediately placed under section lockdown and quarantined from the rest of the facility to prevent them from spreading out or even escaping, according to 079. Thank god. If they had a foothold in the facility and started camping the hallways connecting the Entrance Zone and the Heavy Containment Zone, then I would be fucked. Again, thank god–or 079, in this instance, for preventing this from happening.

Anyways, as I stepped out of the Shelter, the first thing I did was to check on all the SCPs, to see if they had disappeared, teleported to another part of the facility(unlikely, but eh, still its possible. I mean, SCP contains the paranormal, right?), or went out of the facility(Of course I could leave it to 079, but I honestly still don't fully trust the SCPs. It would be better if I did this myself.). SCP-012. Check. SCP-272. Yup, still there. SCP-106. Wandering in Heavy Containment. SCP-049, in his lab doing his research. SCP-096, crying as usual. SCP-914. Still functional. Chucked in a P90 and it gave me the Micro H.I.D. SCP-990 went missing though. Eh, not bad, I honestly expected more SCPs to be destroyed or gone after the inter-dimensional hop.

As I went to the security room to check on the hallways and non-containment rooms in the facility if they were affected by the reality shift, I saw something flash before my eyes on the screen.

Green. Blue. Yellow.

The yellow sun.

Once forgotten colors.

In the month and a half when I was hunkered down in Site-19 after shit hit the fan, everything I saw was the white paint in the Light Containment Zone, gray and black interior of Heavy Containment, and faded orange in the Entrance Zone. There was the disgusting blood red of the malevolent sun, and the red flesh-masses that roamed the once-beautiful Earth. There was the brown, belonging to once-green trees, now withered away to shriveled-up dry branches. Perhaps it is just me nearly collapsing from stress from the daybreak event, or just my bad memory, but I had forgotten the beautiful green and blue landmass known as Earth mostly, with only faint memories remaining. The bright yellow sun, even more so. Seeing the Sun turn from something that symboled light and hope into one of cruelty and destruction, of unholy and disgusting thing that no doubt, instilled unprecedented fear in the countless souls who did not perish immediately from the rays of the Sun, but had to endure the mental trauma of watching oneself melting, was taxing on the mind, you know. The yellow, beautiful sun was something far away, of a lost age, for me– I had not expected to see it again, in my life.

Seeing the vibrant green of the trees and grass, the soft blue that made up the tapestry of the sky, and the yellow of the Sun, it brought tears to my eyes, tears of joy rolling down my cheeks. I murmured," Never had I thought that I would see such a beautiful scene again… ever since that happened. Is this a dream? Will I ever wake up? I don't want to wake up from this beautiful dream…"

"No. You are not dreaming. This scene you are seeing is real. We seem to have teleported to another universe where the Day Break event has not happened. Rejoice, human. "

"Finally… I can see it again…"

"SCP-079, is it safe to go outside?"

"Performing weather and environmental checks… Oxygen content and carbon content in air: 21% and 0.01% respectively. Wind speeds: 5 miles per hour. Performing scans on air sample… Confirmed to be safe to exit the facility. However, you are suggested to head out of the facility armed. There has been no signs of high-intelligence lifeforms in this area… Wait, received emergency transmission. Transmitter: Main Communications Device, Foundation Site-13. Playing transmission. "

"Hello, I am Z-9 Hollis of the SCP Foundation Zeta-9 "Mole Rats". I am currently inside the main control room of Site-13, and I am pinned down by multiple Titan-class entities. If there are any Foundation forces in the area, please get me out of there. I can't survive long here, with food supplies lowering. Food supplies estimated to run out in 3 days. Hello, I am Z-9…"

"You can cut off the message now. Where is Site-13? There is another survivor there, from our world. I don't care about the risks, I would do anything to get in contact with another Day Break survivor."

"She was not there when day broke in our world. Do you know anything about SCP-1730, or Site-13?"

"No? But I did hear you say the threshing machine or whatever it is, it was reverse-engineered from Site-13?"

"Here is a little history lesson, eggheaded human. Site-13 was the prime research and containment facility for the UNGOC and SCP Foundation in another world different from our own. When there was a site-wide containment breach of all anomalies there, the UNGOC administrator of the facility decided to teleport into another universe using the T.H.R.E.S.H.E.R. device and let the problems they caused to plague another world. During a expedition and rescue mission to Site-13, Z-9 Hollis opted to stay behind to let the survivors of Site-13 and the Mobile Task Forces sent in to escape, and activated the T.H.R.E.S.H.E.R. device to teleport the Site to another world, so the anomalies inside would not escape. It seems that she has teleported into the same world as you. "

"Human, I strongly advise you against going into the site to extract the Z-9 commander out. There are multiple Titan-class entities within, and there is a 81.03492% chance that you will be killed if you get in. "

"I don't care, as I said before. I. Want. Her. Out. Of. There. I don't want to stand back, helpless, watching another person die again. Daybreak already nearly broke my mind, as I could only watch in horror as people were turned into flesh beasts, unable to do anything."

"In that case, bring in multiple SCP objects into the facility. SCP-173, SCP-096, SCP-106 and SCP-049 will escort you into the facility. I will map out a safe route for you to enter the facility. Warning. The facility is extremely unstable from multiple reality shifts, and the entire surface area has collapsed. Do you wish to proceed, human?"

"Fuck it, I already said yes for a trillion times. Now get on with your work and start scanning for safe passages to extract Hollis out, please."

"Insolent, rude human!" SCP-079 yelled through the facility intercom while showing me the finger on the screen I was looking at. SCP-106, who had sneaked up from behind all of a sudden, rolled his eyes at that, and laughed.

It sounded as if rough sandpaper was being used on a wooden log.

"Shitstain of a human, if you wish to live after going into Site-13, rest for at least 12 hours. After that, scanning of the facility will be complete, and I will provide you with the safest route to enter the facility. Bring along your Micro H.I.D. and it's respective ammunition, a cryogenic nitrogen thrower, a flamethrower and several Particle Disrupters."

Oh hell no, even 079 is trying to be my personal caretaker… I've already got one that I don't want to have, having another is just a nightmare.

Timeskip: 12 hours later

Welp, time for the mission. I DO hope I am prepared to enter Site-13, as I know that entering this site, if not signing my death warrant, is basically walking into the sun after day broke nude. Yup, that are my survival chances. Odds are somewhat good for me.

"Remember, human, you must NOT engage with the entities in Site-13, as they are far too dangerous for your pathetic human brain to comprehend. Follow the path I have mapped out, and you should be fine. The other SCPs are waiting for you at the secret helicopter pad near Gate B."

"Yeah, you talked about that for like half a million times already, I got the memo. Anything else I need to take note of?"

"Good luck, human. Do not die out there."

Heartwarming that 079 genuinely cares about me.

"Alright, I promise I'll try not to get into dangerous situations, and will return here alive with Hollis. See you after the mission has ended in success." as I walked to Gate B, and boarded the Viper attack troop helicopter, used widely by Foundation forces.

"See you, Site 19. I will return. I won't die." I whispered while piloting the helicopter, glancing back for one last look at Site-19 and the lush greenery surrounding it.
