Suture was nervous, incredibly so as he and several other disguised demons were mere feet away from a notoriously zealous inquisitor. Though Suture's mistress had taken precautions to ensure everything proceeded smoothly, the steely gaze of the prelate remained unnerving.

"Demons, Prelate!" Suture finally managed to answer. "We found 'em barely alive outside the walls of Kenabres."

"The walls, you say? The enemy doesn't usually stray so close to the city. We must fortify the defenses…" Prelate Hulrun muttered, more so to himself than the demon disguised as a guard, before turning his attention back to the wounded person lying at his feet. "And you – hold fast, don't die, we'll see you right!"

The inquisitor offered up a healing prayer to the goddess Iomedae and golden light enveloped the wounded fighter whose labored breathing did not noticeably ease up.

"My powers are not enough here. Someone call for Terendelev!" Turning to the nearby crowd of civilians who had gathered to watch the spectacle, Prelate Hulrun singled out a finely dressed half-elven woman. "You there! Yes, you – stop dithering and gawping and make yourself useful – go and get Terendelev!"

"Prelate, surely there is somebody else here better – oh?" the woman's words died mid objection as the wounded individual let out a small whimper and became limp, like a puppet whose strings had been cut. "Well, it seems the situation has resolved itself." The woman muttered to no one in particular.

A nearby paladin who had been observing the situation crouched down over the body and began searching for a pulse. Unable to find one she immediately shot up and began looking around the busy festival square. "Terendelev! Has anyone seen Terendelev?".

"Enough. It's clear they have already departed for the Boneyard." The Prelate spoke, sending chills through the previously joyous crowd. "It was clear that the demons and their cultist servants would not allow us a day of respite but to wander close to the city indicated a clear intent to attack! It is time for the festivities to come to an end."

As the crowd began to disperse in accordance with the Prelate's orders, one thought went through the mind of Suture, who remained transfixed by the body lying in the center of the city's main square: "shit".

Monsters. The only word to describe the array of creatures that were gathered in the gigantic arena. Dark elves, a succubus, an arch-devil, a vermin lord, and a true vampire: all creatures that the various humanoid races of Golarion would acknowledge as evil – and powerful. Yet to see all of these monsters kneeling in deference would send shivers of fear down the spines of the mightiest of Demon Lords. For what creature could command the respect and obedience of such evil?

Clad in silken shadow, wielding a magnificent golden staff and surrounded by an aura of death stood such a creature. With pure white bones and a malevolent flame for a gaze, the Overlord Momonga gazed upon the guardians and overseer kneeling before him… and racked his brains trying to come up with a response to the declaration of loyalty they had just made.

"Raise your heads." Momonga finally managed to say after a moment of silence. Guess that means they're loyal. Though it doesn't necessarily mean they'll stay that way if I act out of character. "I have called you all here as the Great Underground Tomb of Nazarick has been caught in some unknown situation." Momonga paused to gauge the Guardians' reactions and let the situation sink in. Seeing no signs of surprise, Momonga continued "I have sent Sebas to assess the situation outside but have any of you noticed anything strange on your floors?"

"There are no abnormalities in the Seventh Floor."
"Same with the Sixth Floor."
"I-It's as Nee-chan says."
"The. Fifth. Floor. Is. The. Same."
"Nothing strange has been sighted in the First to Third Floors."

"-Momonga-sama, I shall investigate the Fourth and Eighth Floors right away."

"Then I will leave that matter to Albedo. However, you must be careful on the Eighth Floor. Hmm? It seems Sebas has returned." Momonga said, noticing the butler approach and kneel in much the same way the guardians did upon arrival.

"Momonga-sama, forgive my lateness."

"It's fine. Then, your report on the surrounding conditions."

Sebas raised his head and looked over the guardians arrayed beside him before beginning to speak. "The Great Underground Tomb has found itself in a cave system beneath the earth. Shortly after reaching the surface, the ground shook. Cz-2128 Delta, whom I had accompany me as per your instructions, calculated our depth from the force of the quake and estimated that the entrance to the tomb is approximately a kilometer beneath the surface. Furthermore, when exploring the nearby cave systems, I encountered giant spiders and lizards and avoided engaging them in combat. Further exploration led to a man-made structure where two demi-humans were searching for a particular weapon. As per your orders, I invited them to the tomb and instructed them to wait at the entrance."

Momonga's mind was ablaze with processing all the information Sebas revealed. Giant spiders and lizards doesn't narrow down where we could be by much other than excluding Earth. If those demi-humans are players then they might be in the same situation or they might even have useful information. "Did you manage to estimate the strength of the demi-humans?" Even if they're both level 100, if I have all the Guardians attack at once, I will be safe. I'll just need to bring them inside the tomb so they can't teleport away or call for backup.

"My apologies Momonga-sama, I believe they are both lower than level 10 but cannot accurately discern how much lower."

Eh? Could they really be so weak? No, it must some sort of trap. Would the Guardians think less of me if I have someone else meet with them instead? Maybe have someone else pretend to be the leader? Agh! Why'd I have to tell Sebas to invite them back here?! There's nothing to be done about it, if combat breaks out, I'll at least have the Ring of Ainz Ooal Gown so I can teleport away. Wait a minute, Shalltear arrived here by Gate. Can only the NPCs teleport throughout Nazarick or could other players?

Before Momonga's thoughts could spiral further, his attention was brought back to the present by a nervous Sebas. "Momonga-sama, if I have displeased you in any way then please allow me to atone with my life."

"There is no need, I was merely contemplating what to do with the demi-humans. Shalltear, go and bring them here."

"At once my lord!" Shalltear uttered, finally standing from her kneeling position and casting a Gate spell.

"The rest of you may rise." Momonga bid to the others, noticing how they had likely been awaiting his order to do so for quite some time. …keeping up appearances is going to be harder than I thought.

Author Notes: Hey there! Thanks for checking out the introductory chapter to Wrath of the Overlord, going forward I plan on chapters being longer than this, assuming people are interested in the story. I've been a fan of Overlord for a long time and recently become engrossed by the Owlcat RPG and this story is the result of that. I haven't written anything like this before and I'm not very familiar with pathfinder lore so I'll probably mess up a lot so any and all criticism is welcome and I'll try to address any questions people may have.
