Sun and Moon are known as the two beloved animatronic Daycare Attendants for the Superstar Daycare, they might not be as popular as the four main Glamrock Animatronics, but that's because they were made for a very different type of purpose, to take care of younger children at all times.
Sun and Moon, even though these two robotic brothers seem very similar in their general shape and appearance, they are still very alike.
Sun is by far the most loved animatronic amongst the children at the daycare, being happy all the time and full of energy, he loves to play with kids and takes great care of them, he won't give up until he makes sure that everyone in the daycare is happy.
On the other side of the spectrum is Moon, who doesn't have as good a reputation as his brother Sun, since he was made for a different role in the daycare. Moon is known for being generally calm and very strict, always making sure that the daycare is safe and in order, and that all the rules are being followed. His methods to achieve his desired objectives may seem a bit exaggerated, but he does it all for the children's safety because just like Sun, he cares about them a lot.
Due to Moon's more closed personality and strict rules, he has always been seen as Sun's "evil brother", but is he a monster like people make him out to be?
It was about closing time at the daycare, Sun was taking the kids to their parents while Moon watched from afar, making sure everything was safe and in order.
"Goodbye Sunshine! Come back soon!" Sun said as he waved goodbye to the last child in the Daycare, and with that, he shut the doors, the day was officially over.
"What a day huh? These little rays of Sunshine are sure tough to handle, am I right?" Sun said playfully as he walked over to Moon, who just sighed and rolled his eyes, "Yeah… I guess."
In response, Sun chuckled nervously, even after all this time working with Moon, he never got his head around his often grumpy mood.
After a brief moment of awkward silence between the two animatronics, Moon's eyes wandered to something Sun was holding under his arm, it looked like a pile of papers.
"What 's that?" He asked, pointing to the thing Sun was holding.
"Oh, you mean this? These are the drawings the children made today! I was about to hang them on the mural, wanna come with me?" Sun said happily, Moon nodded in response, "Sure."
—-
They made their way to the Daycare backstage, Moon stared at the large mural on the wall, with countless drawings pinned to it. Most of the drawings were depictions of Sun. Always Sun…
"Hey Moony, wanna help me pin these to the wall?" Sun asked, snapping him out of his thoughts.
"The kids really like you don't they?" Moon asked with his eyes still focused on the drawings, ignoring Sun's previous question.
The sun animatronic chuckled nervously, "Yeah they do, but I'm sure they like you too!"
Moon groaned in annoyance, "I'm not an idiot Sun, I know how they see me, they think I'm a monster, ugh, why can't they just see that I'm just trying to keep them safe?"
Moon has always been very conscious of his reputation among the children at the Daycare, as he was the one who enforced the rules and punishments, it was only natural for the kids to see him as "evil". Even if he always pretended like it didn't bother him… In the end… It hurt him quite a lot.
"You know... Maybe the kids would like you better if you weren't so... Uhm, how can I say this... intense? Don't you think that you might be taking the job of enforcing the rules a little too seriously?"
Moon turned to face Sun completely, glaring at him. "Too seriously? You don't have the right to say how I should do my job! Without me in here, the kids would run all over you, idiot! Someone needs to make sure that everyone is safe and that everything is in order, and that someone is me. So let me do my job and you do yours."
With that said, Moon turned to exit the room, "You should rest now, you'll have a long day tomorrow… You are their favorite after all…" He mumbled the last part to himself, as he left the room frustrated.
Sun looked down and sighed sadly, he wondered if someday he would finally understand Moon. After finishing pinning the drawings to the wall, the sun animatronic went to have a deserved night of rest.
The Next Day…
The sound of the havoc caused by the children playing echoed through the Daycare, it was another usual day, as Sun played with the kids, Moon would stay in the shadows, making sure everything was in order as always.
He kept making his rounds through the Daycare, sometimes he would receive weird stares from the children, but he had already gotten used to such treatment.
Nothing seemed out of the ordinary until Moon noticed something strange.
A little girl, sitting alone in a place distant from the other children, had a strange expression on her face, a depressed and sad one.
Moon, upon seeing this, found it strange that a child would isolate themselves from the others, the girl looked like she needed some comfort.
He was about to approach her but stopped midway, 'No… I would probably just scare her anyways… I should warn Sun about this, he will know what to do.'
Moon sighed sadly, he glanced at the girl one more time before going to find Sun.
As Moon approached Sun, a lot of children who surrounded him stepped back in fear, he didn't pay much attention to it though, as previously stated, he was already used to this.
"Hey Sun, I need to talk to you, there's a-"
"Oh just in time Moony! It's nap time, it's your time to watch over them." The sun animatronic said, cutting Moon off.
Moon face palmed himself mentally, 'Damnit, how could I forget about the nap time?'
"But Sun, there's a girl-"
"Good luck Moony!" Sun said, interrupting Moon again while tapping his shoulder and running off.
Moon rolled his eyes and sighed in annoyance, he turned his back to the children, who were awaiting his instructions for the nap time.
Moon clapped both hands, "Alright Starlights, It's time to sleep, everyone go get a pillow, I'll be turning the lights off soon."
All the children quickly ran to do as Moon said, despite him not spending so much time with them, he still had a lot of authority in the Daycare, probably even more than Sun himself.
After all the kids got ready, Moon turned off the lights, the whole place almost went pitch black in an instant.
Moon walked around the daycare, watching over the sleeping children. He had special sensors installed which allowed him to see who was sleeping and who was not.
Almost everyone was sleeping, except for one.
Moon's sensors quickly detected a child who wasn't sleeping, instead, they were wide awake, sitting on their pillow.
He huffed in annoyance, he assumed the kid wasn't sleeping because they wanted to break the daycare rules, and there was nothing he hated more than rulebreakers.
He quickly marched over to the child in question, ready to scold them for not sleeping during nap time, but stopped himself before actually doing it when he realized what was truly happening.
The child was the same girl he had seen alone earlier, she was hugging her knees tightly, sobbing quietly while sitting on her pillow.
Moon felt a pain in his chest at the sight, he mentally kicked himself for having assumed the situation earlier and gently knelt in front of the scared girl.
"Hey Starlight, why are you crying?" He said with a calm and gentle tone of voice.
The girl, after noticing Moon's presence, edged away from him, her eyes widening in fear.
"Hey, there's no need to be afraid, Starlight, I won't hurt you, I promise." Moon said while he raised his hands to show that he was not a threat, the action seemed to have tranquilized the girl a bit.
"Now tell me, why are you crying?" He asked.
The girl swept her tears with her sleeve and tried to control her sobs. "I-It's too dark… I can't s-sleep." She muttered.
Moon sighed, it was not the first time he had dealt with a child who suffered from Nyctophobia (fear of darkness).
"It's alright Starlight, there's nothing to be afraid of in the dark." He said, although his attempt to comfort the girl didn't seem to work, she still seemed scared.
"What's your name, little one?" He asked.
"Kate…" She answered, a bit surprised by the question.
"Kate huh? That's a wonderful name." The girl quietly giggled at the compliment, "Thanks." She said, sounding a lot more comfortable with Moon's presence.
"Don't worry, Moon's gonna help you sleep… Can I pick you up, Kate?"
The girl seemed hesitant at first but nodded in response.
He gently lifted her into his arms, the girl quickly clinging to him tightly. Moon was a bit taken back by the action, he simply couldn't remember when was the last time someone had hugged him, he didn't realize how much he missed that warm feeling.
With a warm smile on his face, Moon gently sat on the ground, adjusting the child comfortably on his lap. He still could feel her shiver, he still had to calm her down a bit more.
He then had an idea, he reached for something in his pocket, a little fluorescent star that was able to glow in the dark.
"Here, take this, Starlight, it will protect you from the dark." He said while handling the little glowing star to the child.
Kate looked at the star amazed, "Wow! Thank you, Moon"
Moon felt warm inside, it's been so long since anyone thanked him for anything, he had gotten so used to being treated as a monster that he forgot how great these little things felt. "You're welcome, I'm not so scary now, am I?"
The girl yawned before speaking, "No, you aren't scary, I like you."
She snuggled into his lap, ready to sleep, clinging tightly to her little glowing star.
"Are you going to stay with me?" Kate asked.
"Yes, don't worry I will stay with you while you sleep."
"Promise?"
"I promise."
And with that, Kate finally gave in and closed her eyes, falling asleep with a gentle smile.
Moon watched as the girl fell asleep, running his fingers gently through her hair.
"Good night, Starlight~"
Naptime was over, Moon gently woke up Kate and waved goodbye as Sun was coming back to take care of them again.
"Hello there Moony! So, how was nap time?" Sun asked as he walked over to Moon.
"It was great." He answered, still smiling.
"That's great to hear!" Sun said enthusiastically as he went back to the children, and Moon back to the outskirts of the Daycare, to make his common routes around the place.
Moon walked around the Daycare, watching over the children who seemed to be drawing with Sun.
He suddenly felt someone poke at him from behind, he turned around and looked down to see Kate again, with a huge smile on her face.
"Hi Moon!" She said happily.
"Hello there Starlight, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be with the other children?"
The girl's smile faded a bit, "I… I don't like playing with others… And I wanted to give you this!" She ended her sentence excitedly as she handed a piece of paper to Moon.
Moon took the paper and stared at it with wide eyes, it was a sweet drawing of him and Kate together, he simply couldn't believe he had finally received a drawing, Sun would receive those all the time, he couldn't be happier.
"This... This is wonderful! Thank you so much little star, I'll hang this in my room."
Kate's smile grew even more, "I'm glad you liked it! And I was thinking… Can I stay with you?"
Moon looked down at the girl with a raised brow. "Huh? You wanna spend time with me? Don't you wanna play with the other children or Sun?"
The girl shook her head, "I don't like being around the other kids, they say that you are scary and evil, which is not true! I like you and I wanna be with you!"
Moon chuckled at the girl's stubbornness, it was quite adorable. "Fine, you can stay with me, let's have some fun together."
The girl quickly grabbed his hand as they walked around the Daycare together.
Moon and Kate spent the rest of the day together, playing games, reading stories, drawing, and other pleasant activities in general.
Since Kate was very shy, they would do it all away from the others.
It was closing time, and Moon and Kate said goodbye with a big hug.
"I'll be back someday so we can have more fun!" Kate said while breaking out of the hug.
Moon chuckled "Sure thing little star, I'll be waiting for you."
The girl waved goodbye as she ran towards Sun, who was handing the children to their parents.
After the last kid left the Daycare, Sun closed the doors and walked over to Moon.
"Oh boy! I have never seen you in such a good mood before, did something happen?" Questioned Sun.
Moon glanced at the drawing made by Kate before looking at Sun.
"Today… Today was a good day."
