"Cassidy! Cassidy, wake up!"
She groaned as the voice entered her ears, the sunlight flashing in her eyes as her curtains for her window were pushed back.
She opened her eyes painfully and saw Bruno beaming at her from outside her window, his smile bigger than she had ever seen it.
"Bruno?" Her voice was groggy and full of sleep, but she managed to crack a confusing smile. "What's up?"
Bruno was close to shaking with excitement. "I need to talk to you. Quickly get dressed and meet me near the stream.
"What? We're talking just fine right now."
"Just, please, Cass?"
She nodded, brushing her hair away from her face. "Fine. I'll be there soon."
Bruno nodded rapidly and shut the blinds once again, and Cassidy sighed, knowing that she shouldn't have kept her window open at night. Having Bruno reach into her room and open her curtains from the outside…that was creepy. At least it was him and not some other guy.
She got out of bed and quickly put on her dress, wiping the sleep from her eyes, quickly ran a comb through her hair and put it in a bun. She walked out of her room, yawning. Her sister was staring at a boy through the window, and, as always, her parents didn't cast a glance at her. She assumed that her father was getting the shop open as he moved around with determination, and her mother cleaned her own shoes with meticulous care. Cassidy knew that her mother wanted to be presentable, and that it was best to not bother her when she was making herself look good. And, the last time she tried to strike up a conversation with her dad at this time of day she was forced into her room. It didn't matter that she was legally an adult now, she was still banished into her room. It sucked.
Cassidy smiled as she tried to push the thoughts from her mind, instead choosing to focus on Bruno. What in the world did he want to talk to her about? A part of her thought that it could be news about if they could date or not, but she had asked Bruno's mother months ago, and she never got a response.
But, it didn't matter what this was about. She had seen Bruno at his worst, usually after he had a dozen visions in a row, but she had also seen him at his best. And never, never, had she ever seen him so happy. It had to be something good.
"I'm going out for the morning, I'll see you guys later."
Her father only huffed in response, and she put on her shoes, walking out of the door.
The sun was as bright as the rays that hit her eyes that morning, but it didn't take long for her to get used to it. The village was already alive with activity, noises from all around making the day seem like it was already noon.
Julieta walked past her in a rush, a basket of goods in her arms.
"Good morning, Cassidy!"
"Morning, Julieta!"
Cassidy smiled as she watched Agustín run to her assistance, the man tripping over his feet, and she made her way towards the stream. She could see Bruno's green ruana in the distance, his far away form seemingly tossing stones into the stream. She picked up her pace and grabbed the bottom of her dress so she could run.
"Bruno!"
Bruno looked up and took a hold of her hands as soon as she had gotten close to him.
"My mom said that we could date! We can be together!"
Cassidy froze, her mouth dropping open in shock.
"Really? She…approves?"
Bruno nodded frantically. "Yes, she does! And, I talked to your parents yesterday, and they said yes, too!"
"I….really? My parents said that it was okay?" She had a hard time believing that it was true, but maybe that was. Maybe they did actually care about her, maybe they did want her to have a boyfriend. And, if she let herself hope, maybe she could get married, too.
Cassidy couldn't stop a smile from forming on her face as Bruno nodded once again.
"They did! We can be together!"
"No way! No way, are you sure?"
"My mom said that it was okay if we were boyfriend-girlfriend, and your parents said the same! They didn't say anything about us…you know, getting married or anything, but I think we have a long way to go before that." Bruno smiled sheepishly, but anyone could see that he was happy. "I'm sorry, I should have told you sooner, but I didn't want to tell you anything until I got your parent's approval too."
She nodded, knowing that they weren't ready for marriage either, but she didn't care. They could be together. She didn't care that she was just finding out, either, this was the best news she had ever heard.
Cassidy took her hands out of his and wiped her face, cleaning her face of tears that she didn't know fell.
"I…I'm glad you waited, thank you. And, I don't care about marriage right now either, Bruno…" She said softly. "I just care about you."
She let her hands rest on his shoulders and stared into his green eyes, eyes that had tears of joy falling down them too. Bruno's gaze wandered from her eyes quickly down to her lips, but he looked away as soon as he realized what happened. Yet, despite this, he reached up and wrapped his hands around her back, and he pulled her closer to his body. Cassidy let him, and she slowly leaned forward, letting their noses bump. Cassidy giggled and closed her eyes, really hoping that she wasn't reading this wrong.
"I love you, Bruno." She whispered, and her lips met his, pressing gently. He kissed her back, and there was nothing left in the world but the two of them. Bruno's grip on her back was strong and steady, and she could smell the slight scent of sand coming off of his ruana, and she realized that they had never been this close before.
It felt so perfect, so natural, and she knew that there was no one else she was meant to be with. Meant to kiss. Meant to love.
She could feel Bruno's usually tense body relax in her embrace, and she decided then and there that she didn't want to leave.
It was her name being called out that made the two pull away suddenly. The two stepped away from each other in slight shock, and Cassidy felt a chill where Bruno's chest had once been.
"Umm, was that…?"
"You're sister? I think so, she sounded really upset."
Bruno gave an awkward cough, a blush creeping up on his cheeks.
"Well, um, I'll see you later? I should probably go home and do some visions."
She smiled. "Sure, I might come in and see you, too, depending on what Abigail wants. And, for the record? That was nice."
Bruno's blush seemed to get darker, but he smiled. "Yeah…yeah, it was."
She gave his hand a quick squeeze and headed back into the town, feeling lighter than ever. She saw him out of the corner of her eye running back to his house, and she couldn't forget that kiss. She had never been kissed before, but that felt amazing. Cassidy was thankful, so thankful, that they could be together and not be worried about their parents' disapproval. She had a good feeling that this was going to last. They had known each other for more than a year. They could finally be open about their relationship.
Nothing could make this day any worse. Not her parents, not the townspeople, and certainly not her sister.

Pepa had finished reading one of her favorite books, the kind that would make her sad, of course, and the fields have been watered to perfection, a condensed cloud providing rain while the rest of the town had sunshine. She made her way into the Casita and wrung out her hair, flipping her braid over her shoulder.
She made a mental list of everything else that she had to get done today. She had to get a dress for Julieta's wedding, help with the decorations, and get a guest list prepared. The wedding was in a week, there was no time to delay now. Their mother wanted everything done perfectly.
Pepa frowned when she saw Bruno leaning against the dining room table, his eyes unseeing and distant. She knew that Bruno had to do a couple of things before the wedding, too, and some visions, so what was he doing?
"Bruno? Don't you have some things to do?"
"So that's what a kiss feels like." He muttered, and Pepa's eyes widened.
"What?"
Bruno snapped out of his daze and jumped, grabbing the table for support.
"Pepa! I didn't realize you were there."
Pepa tried to contain her joy, the crops didn't need the sun, but she couldn't help it. "Did you and Cassidy kiss?"
"Um…no…I mean…"
"Bruno! What happened? Tell me everything!"
Pepa grabbed his hand and pulled him into a chair, sitting across from him herself.
"What happened, Bruno?"
Bruno blushed a deep red, fiddling with his ruana. "It's…it's nothing."
"Bruno."
"Fine, we kissed. But, it's not a big deal!" He gestured outside randomly. "You and Julieta kiss your boyfriends all the time!"
"It is a big deal, especially for you! How did it happen?"
"We….um, we talking, and then it just…happened, I guess. This is really weird to talk about this with you, Pepa, can you just drop it?"
Pepa frowned teasingly, the frown instantly turning into a grin. "Aww, but this is such a big deal! My baby brother, kissing girls already!"
Bruno growled and stood up. "Drop it, Pepa! You and I are the same age as our sister who is getting married! It was going to happen eventually!"
"I'm telling her, by the way!"
"Pepa!"
Pepa laughed and got out of the way as Bruno threw a small bit of sand at her, shining brighter than the sun. Bruno grinned sheepishly and made his way to his room. Pepa ran up to him and turned him around so they faced each other. Bruno was much shorter than she was, but she still wrapped him in a hug, lifting him off the floor.
"I'm really happy for you, Bruno." She said, and Bruno laughed.
"Thanks, Pepa."
She dropped him and he gasped in surprise as he fell to the ground, his feet hitting the floor with a thump. It took him a second to regain his balance, but when he did he straightened his ruana and smiled.
"Don't you have stuff to do, Pepa?" He asked with mischief, and she rolled her eyes.
"Bye, Bruno."
With that Bruno was running to his room, leaving Pepa beaming where she stood.
She liked Cassidy, and if she and Bruno got married…it would be perfect. They were perfect for each other. Although Bruno tried to hide how much the kiss meant to him, anyone who knew it would see right through him. It meant the world to him. Cassidy meant the world to him.
Pepa believed that Agustín and Julieta were a match made in heaven, and sometimes her and Félix were too. She was certain that Cassidy was destined to be with Bruno, now more than ever.
Pepa really hoped that she was right.
