I Do Not Own Twilight

Garrett was just about to follow Bella across the treaty line onto the LaPush reservation when suddenly he was pulled back from behind. He was flung up against a tree. When he recovered Jasper was crouched in front of him in case of a fight.

"Whacha doin' followin' Bella, Garrett?"

Garrett slid down the tree and landed with a thud in the soil, "I have no idea." He looked at Jasper helplessly. "I just feel like I need to follow her and I have this pull to her. I just needed to know where she was going." He shook his head like he had no idea why he would be doing what he was doing.

Jasper grinned and squatted down in front of his friend. "That's what I suspected. I thought I felt that from ya. Congratulations man!"

"Congratulations for what?" Exasperated Garrett rubbed his face and pushed back his hair.

"I'll let ya figure that out." He smirked then nodded in the direction of LaPush. "That's the reservation we can't go on over there. Edward hates when she goes there. That's why I felt all the deception I did when her father called."

Garrett wrinkled his forehead, "Does her father call her away often?"

Jasper frowned and nodded, "Lately yes. Always accompanied by a ton of deception from her and always after she has slipped off on her own for a few moments." He smirked lovingly at the thought of Bella, "She thinks she's slick. She might have everyone else fooled but I always know."

"Well then why don't you stop them from being so mean to her. I was only there a few hours and your family was merciless to her."

Jasper nodded sadly, "I know it. I have tried to tell them but they don't listen to me. Plus, I think Bella needs to learn to stand up for herself. I try to send her confidence and bravery but so far, she hasn't told them off. They are like those bullies in grade school that just need one kid to lay 'em out so they'll stop."

"I see your point," Garrett nodded. "So, no chance of spying on her then?" He nodded in the direction of the res.

"Actually yes. I have discovered a point close enough you can hear what goes on at their bon fires. It is a weekend so they will be there at some point tonight. They have a bon fire all weekend every weekend."

Jasper led Garrett to a high cliff that overlooked the beach. They could already see the boys dragging driftwood to their normal spot to build a fire. They had tables set up with food. They watched and soon they saw Bella walking along carrying a large bowl covered in plastic wrap.

Bella wasn't sure if she would be able to come to the bon fire tonight but she made a huge bowl of her famous potato salad and had asked Jake to pick it up from her house in case she was able to come. She did this often so she always was prepared whether she was able to come to the party or not. She always had to sneak over to the res because Edward told her she wasn't allowed to come. Sometimes she would sneak off other time she would meet Jacob someplace and his presence would ensure Alice couldn't see.

She set the bowl down and went to help Emily with setting up the rest of the food. "Hey vamp girl, surprised to see you here. Isn't it movie night or something?"

Bella frowned, "It is movie night but I decided my time would be better spent with the pack."

Raising her head and looking at the girl for a moment Emily's eyes narrowed, "Alright what happened? Making fun of you or making fun of us?"

"Me," Bella shrugged. "I know they are just teasing but it gets a little old sometimes." She sighed and reached for the serving utensils to put in dishes. "I know I'm not as fast or strong or graceful as supernatural creatures I just don't think I have to be reminded about it every day."

Jacob came up behind Bella and put his arms around her shoulder causing Garrett on the cliffs to emit a low growl. He turned his face to the sound. "I'll be back in a minute Bella," he kissed her cheek and loped off to the cliffs where Jasper and Garrett were watching. He climbed up the side quickly and jumped the last bit landing on his feet in front of the two vampires.

Jacob sneered, "Hey Cullen who's your friend? And what are ya doing here?"

Jasper rolled his eyes, "Don't worry Black we aren't crossin' the line. Bella was upset due to my family and we were checkin' to make sure she made it here."

"And your friend?"

Jasper smirked, "You need ta get ta know Garrett here. He'll be around for awhile." Jasper's smile got bigger when he saw Garrett looking at him confusedly. "Ya know that thing that happened to you recently," Jasper winked, "well it happened to him today. I gotta feelin' ya'll are gonna be like family."

Jacob's scowl quickly turned into a look of shock. He looked over Garrett and then back to Bella. He looked back at Garrett who was wrinkling his forehead trying to figure out what Jasper and Jacob were talking about. Jacob nodded once and shrugged, "At least it wasn't Edward. I hate that guy." He held his hand out to Garrett who shook it cautiously.

"It is nice to meet you but I have no idea what you are talking about."

Jacob laughed, looked at Jasper, and pointed at Garrett lightly "he has no clue, does he?"

"Nope," Jasper grinned. "Just let him hang out up here. Maybe he'll catch on. I'll see ya later Black." He slapped Jacob's shoulder lightly, "Congratulations by the way," and took off.

Jacob turned back to Garrett, "Sorry I can't invite you down. Treaty and everything. Anyway, if you are friends with Jasper, you must be okay. He is a pretty good guy it's the rest of the Cullen's we have some issues with."

"Well thank you Jacob." He nodded his head to the boy, "I won't bother your party I just felt like she needed someone to watch her back. The Cullen's were surprisingly brutal."

"Tell me about it. Well, I'm going back. Don't hunt around here." With that Jacob took off down the side of the cliff and back to the bon fire.

Bella was talking to Leah, "I'm so happy for you and Jake. He has always been like a brother to me. I'm so excited you guys imprinted on each other."

Jacob made his way back to the girls who called for everyone to get their food. Bella was sitting on a log next to Paul when someone mentioned the Fork's Follies.

"Oh, you guys can any of you do something at the Follies. It is like a talent show. Maybe you guys can do that ceremonial welcoming dance you do, or Embry you play guitar can you do something?"

"Why do you want us in the Follies Bella? Can't get enough of us?" Jared asked.

She laughed, "I'm helping my dad and right now we are signing people up to be acts."

Paul smirked and looked at the other guys, "We could always do a Chippendales thing. We could really get the ladies worked up," he wiggled his eyes.

"Gross, everyone has seen you guys naked plenty already," Bella scowled.

The guys all laughed. "What about you Swan? What are you gonna in the talent show," Seth asked?

Bella frowned and her shoulders sagged, "You guys know I don't have any talents."

"Hey, if falling over air is a talent you are the most talented person I know," Paul nudged her shoulder.

Quil laughed, "Talk about something everyone has seen. Truly you are the most uncoordinated person I have ever met."

Again, Bella knew the guys were joking but the jokes hit too close to home. She had already been feeling insecure and this only added to that.

Jacob noticed her face fall and he tried to change the subject, "What acts would you guys actually want to watch?"

"I don't know. I wouldn't want to sit and watch something like some boring piano player?" Seth laughed, "What about you Bella?"

She chuckled, "I just watched this movie Dirty Dancing and I would love to see someone dance like that. Probably because I know I could never do something like that."

Paul guffawed, "Could you guys imagine Bella trying to dance like that? When you she did the lift, she would plummet into the guy and kill him."

Bella attempted a smile, "I never said I would try to dance like that. I don't dance at all to avoid hurting someone, remember." She folded her arms as if she was cold.

"Good thing too!" Jared piped in.

On the cliff Garrett was stifling a growl. He wondered if this girl had any nice friends. They all seemed to just laugh at her expense. At least she was able to tease the wolves back. It didn't seem like she was able to do that to the Cullen's.

Soon Bella decided it was time to go home. She grabbed her empty bowl and headed back to her car. She walked to her car with her arms wrapped tightly around the bowl. Her shoulders still sagged and she moved slowly. Garrett lost sight of her so he ran the treaty line till it met the road she would take home. He waited until he saw her truck slowly moving toward him.

He chuckled to himself at the slowness of the old truck. On impulse he sprinted forward, opened the door, and jumped into the passenger side seat.

Bella screamed.
