I Do Not Own Twilight
Alice and Jasper were out hunting. Jasper was trying to decide how to ask is Alice knew about Carlisle and Edward's plans about Bella. He really didn't believe she knew they had pushed it back. She had been so excited for Bella to change and kept talking about how fun it would be to have a new sister. All of a sudden Alice froze and her body went ridged.
Jasper grabbed her waist and steadied her until she came out of her vision. She began sobbing as soon as she woke up. "What did ya see, Darlin'?"
"Bella decided to break up with Edward. She doesn't want to be a Cullen anymore! I don't know what happened?" Alice put her forehead against Jasper and he began rubbing circles on her back.
"I know what happened and I've been tryin' all day to figure out how ta ask ya all about it." Jasper then recounted everything Garrett learned about Edward's plan to keep Bella human.
Alice was livid, "What do they think I can do about it? Spend my life tracking down what the rulers are planning? If I helped them, I would be responsible. I swore to the Volturi she would be changed! They are asking us all to die if we don't." Alice was taking deep angry breaths furious over what she had learned.
While Jasper was feeling relieved Alice was as clueless as he had been. "My biggest concern is how is everyone getting around you visions?" Jasper looked down at her.
Alice put her face in her hands, "I don't know!" she wailed. "I know it must have something to do with Bella because she is the only one, besides the wolves, who impacts my vision. It's like she is blank to me sometimes. The few times I see her she is unbelievably happy but I never see anything else."
"When did that start exactly?" Jasper rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
Thinking for a moment, "It didn't start until we met the Volturi." She nodded confidently.
"So, what you are saying is once it was decided she had to change your visions of her changed." Alice nodded and Jasper continued, "She has always been silent to Edward and now your having trouble with your visions. Maybe she is a shield of some sort?"
Alice looked up at her mate and squealed, "That's it! I know it. That would explain why I only see her as a happy vampire. She would have to feel really safe and happy in order to put down her shield."
Jasper nodded, "There is somethin' else you should know. Bella isn't Edward's mate. She's Garrett's mate."
"Garrett's mate? But he has a lady friend he wanted me to shop for?" Alice wrinkled her forehead.
Jasper nodded, "I think you were shopping for Bella and I think they are up to something that has to do with the Follies. I suspect he is teaching her to dance for 'em."
Alice frowned worriedly, "She's going to hurt herself if she does that. Why would she do that?"
"I think it is because everyone keeps teasing her about her balance and her humanity. I think she didn't use to mind it but since we left her and Edward told her it was because she was human, I think it causes her to worry it could be true."
Alice's mouth fell open, "Oh, Jasper I have been teasing her mercilessly because I have been annoyed that she has rendered my gift useless." Alice sighed sadly, "What am I going to do?"
"I can feel that she loves ya darlin' just tell her ya sorry and that you weren't thinkin' it had hurt your feelings." Alice nodded agreeing with everything I said.
"I should go and apologize."
"You should but let's do it later okay?"
Alice shook her black spikey head and stood on her tip toes to give Jasper a kiss.
When they were done with their hunt, they headed back to the Cullen house to see Garrett come flying through the window followed by Edward who was growling furiously.
Garrett hopped up and brushed himself off. He looked up and grinned at Edward. "If you don't like my thoughts you shouldn't listen to them. Especially, when I'm in a bedroom with the door closed." He chuckled.
Edward lunged at Garrett, "It wasn't what you were thinking about it was who. You have no right to think anything about Bella!"
Jasper ran in between the two vampires and sent out calming waves. He cocked his eyebrow at Garrett wondering how bad his thoughts were to get himself thrown out of a window.
Garrett chuckled, "Believe me Eddie I could have thought of so many worse things about Bella. Wondering what she ever saw in you is the least of the things I could think about. Not to mention your behavior right now is causing me to wonder all the more how she could have gotten involved in someone like you."
"She is my mate!" Edward roared and tried to leap over Jasper. Jasper rolled his eyes and grabbed Edward by the foot as he flew over his head and yanked him back to the ground. Then he hit him with enough lethargy to knock him out.
"You're gonna have ta tell him, Garrett," Jasper drawled. Edward tried to wave his hand sluggishly but it quickly fell back to the ground.
Garrett walked over to him and squatted next to him. "Edward, I hate to tell you this but Bella is not your mate. She is my mate. I'm sorry to break this to you but it's true. I am allowed to think about Bella because she is mine."
Jasper released the lethargy slowly. Edward scowled, "She is not your mate," he groaned. "She's mine. She is made for me. She is perfect for me."
"Edward," Alice spoke up quietly, "if Bella was for you, I don't think you would need to tell her what to do all the time. Or coerce her into doing what you want. She would already be what you want."
Edward shook his head and stood up quickly, "No he is turning everyone against me!" He hissed turning on his heels he ran in the direction of Bella's house.
Sighing Garrett took off after Edward. He knew he was headed for Bella's house.
Edward was furious. He couldn't believe he had caught Garrett thinking about his Bella. Questioning why they should be together. Who did he think he was?
Soon Edward came to Bella's house. She was in her room probably already in bed reading he decided. He hopped up to her window and slide it open.
Bella jumped when she heard the snap of the lock on the window as it was forced open. "Edward, I told you to leave. I haven't asked you to come back. I don't think I want you here right now. I'm still upset with you." She folded her arms angrily over her chest.
"If you didn't want me in here you would have locked your window," Edward chuckled and shook his head as if Bella was a naughty toddler.
Bella jumped up from the bed and stormed to the window, "You broke the lock! I locked you out and you broke the lock!" She fumed.
Edward laughed, "Silly Bella a lock can't keep me away from you." He reached his hand out and stroked her cheek. She reached up to smack his hand off but he caught her wrist.
"Look Edward I don't want to talk to you right now. I want you to leave." She scowled and tried to get her wrist free.
"Bella, there seems to be a problem we need to talk about." He stoked her hair with his other hand but didn't release her wrist. "Garrett seems to think that you are his mate. I told him you were my mate. I'm worried he will try to take you from me. He is a human drinker after all, love."
Bella gasped ignoring the rest of what Edward was saying. Could she really be Garrett's mate? That would explain why she was willing to dance with him, something she had never tried with Edward. She began wondering if that was why she was willing to kiss him and why Charlie liked him so much. She knew he was right she was his mate. What she didn't know was what this would mean for her.
She took a deep breath, "Edward I don't think we should date anymore."
"Love, I know you are confused because of what I told you…"
"No! I'm not confused. You told me you don't plan on changing me. If you loved me, you wouldn't risk the Volturi coming and killing me."
"Love they won't get you. Don't worry about them." He tried to step forward to grab her shoulders but she ducked underneath him and stepped behind him.
"It doesn't matter someday they will catch up to me. They will kill me. I'm not going to take that risk. I can't be with someone who would risk me like that. You need to leave." She pointed to the window.
"Bella please. You are being ridiculous."
"Leave!"
"Love…" Edward pleaded for her to listen.
"Leave or I'll call Carlisle." She pulled out her cell phone and started punching in buttons.
Edward growled, "Fine, we will discuss this later. Stay away from Garrett! He wants to kill you." Edward jumped out the window and headed back to his house.
As soon as he was out of sight Garrett tapped on the window.
Bella grinned, "You can come in Garrett."
He smiled shyly, "I heard the last of what happened and wanted to make sure you were alright."
Bella thought for a moment. She wondered if he heard Edward tell her he thought she was his mate. She decided she wouldn't say anything she would let things happen on their own. She smiled, "Thank you for checking on me. I'm okay. I'm angry he doesn't want to change me and is willing to lie about it but since you have promised to, I'm not worried."
"Are you upset about your breakup?"
She scoffed, "No, when someone would let you die it kind of kills the lovey feelings."
Garrett grinned, "Well I'll go. I shouldn't be in a lady's room anyway. Tomorrow morning, I will come by and vampire proof your window if you don't mind?"
"That would be great! Then we'll still dance tomorrow afternoon right."
He nodded, "Looking forward to it."
"Goodnight, Garrett," she looked deeply into his eyes wishing he would kiss her again. She glanced at his lips.
Garrett saw her flick her eyes to his lips and he had to push down his excitement. "Goodnight, Bella." He quickly stepped around her and jumped out of the window. He was not willing to take further liberties with this beautiful woman. He ran all the way back to the Cullen's house. Dealing with Edward would be interesting after this.
