I Do Not Own Twilight

Garrett had eventually carried Bella up to the bedroom he had been staying in. He wanted to stay in the room and watch her sleep but he was a gentleman. He did stop and admire the sight of her hair splayed out on the pillow and her rosy, pink lips curved in a slight smile. He ached to kiss he cheek and whisper loving words in her ear. Instead, he fled downstairs only to run into Carlisle.

"Garrett," Carlisle called, "I would like to speak to you in my study," he motioned in the general direction.

Nodding once curtly Garrett followed. Once he was seated in front of Carlisle's desk where he was sitting and opening the pages of a book. Carlisle found what he was looking for and raised his eyes to Garrett. "First, I want to thank you for not killing Edward. I suspect it is actually your right to do so."

"You are correct, Carlisle. Bella is my mate. It is my right to kill him. However, I will not be killing him if he stops whatever he is up to. I know about the plan not to turn Bella. I just don't know why he insists on keeping her human when he knows the Volturi will kill her?" Garrett leaned forward resting his forearms on his knees looking for any clue in Carlisle's demeanor.

Shaking his head and sighing Carlisle looked older. "He told me Bella had confessed to him she wasn't ready to be turned. He said he wanted to protect her humanity as long as possible. I explained he couldn't do that infinitely so we settled on after college as long as he spoke with Aro and got Volturi permission. He also insisted Bella wanted to marry him first and he has been secretly planning a wedding."

"How is it possible he was able to keep all these decisions from Alice?"

At this question Carlisle's face darkened. "I have no idea but it means we are flying blind in all of this. He had to do a lot of work in order to keep her out of the loop. I'm worried he has a more sinister plan then just not turning his girlfriend." He shook his head in disbelief then a look of awkwardness crossed his features, "Garrett, I do believe Bella is you mate but Edward will be able to see this conversation if I remember it for him. Can I read to you some things about the mating bond to double check?"

Garrett's eyebrows shot up but he was interested to see what this book of Carlisle's had to say about mating. "Certainly," he gestured for Carlisle to go ahead.

"Do you feel a pull to her?"

Garrett put a hand on his chest, "Like a rope yanking my heart in her direction? Then yes."

Nodding once, "Are you tempted to drain her?"

"I don't want to eat her but I would love to bite her. I actually haven't gotten tempted once by her blood and I haven't been eating my normal meals since coming here and sticking to your diet."

"Are you doing anything out of character for you?"

Garrett smirked to himself thinking of the dancing lessons he was insisting on giving to Bella. He told her the truth he had taught his sisters to dance and twice taught some younger vampires to dance but all of these had been quick lessons before an event. He had never taught someone choreography! He had never attempted choreography but he knew he was capable of doing it because of his heightened senses. "I can't even begin to tell you the number of things I am suddenly doing for her. Only to be rewarded with a smile at the end. It is literally the stuff of 80's romance movies."

Carlisle chuckled, "I'm sure it is. It will only get worse I'm afraid. I still can't get over how interesting I find interior design and look at Jasper and how much he loves taking Alice shopping." At this Garrett threw his head back and laughed loudly.

Shaking his head in mirth, "Who would have ever thought the Major of the Southern Vampire Wars, the God of War himself, would not only enjoy hours shopping but could tell you the difference between Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin shoes!" At this both men guffawed. "What does Emmett do because of this mating bond?" Garrett asked as he held his side.

A chortle erupted from Carlisle, "Have you ever watched Rosalie work on cars?" Garrett shook his head. "He is always her jack!" Another fit of laughter erupted from the two men. "So," Carlisle tried to calm down, "what are you doing that had you smirking over the question."

Garrett snorted and waved his hands in front of him, "Oh no, it's actually a big surprise. I can't spoil it for her. But you will know it when you see it."

The two men calmed down after a few moments and Carlisle stood up with his hand outstretched, "Congratulations, you have waited centuries for her. I am happy for you, my friend."

Garrett took Carlisle's hand, "Thank you, and keep me posted on any problems from Edward."

As Garrett started to leave, he turned, "I do have a question though." Carlisle nodded for him to continue. "If we get all excited about their interests what do female vampires do for us?"

Carlisle smirked and said in a low voice, "That is her big surprise and I won't spoil it for you."

"I hoped it was something along those lines," Garrett had an understanding twinkle in his eye.

Garrett headed downstairs to wait until Bella woke up. He was hoping they could spend the day together. He had decided it would be a good time to teach her some more interesting parts of the choreography. They would need time and space in order to do it.

Once he heard he start to wake he went to make her breakfast but Esme was already in the kitchen working on it. She beamed at him when he came into the room. "Good morning, Garrett."

"Good morning, Esme. I was coming to make Bella breakfast but I see you beat me too it."

She smiled, "Yes, I love to cook for her. I guess I won't get to for much longer. I'm glad though it will mean she is a part of the family sooner. I'm so glad you will be joining us. I thought maybe we could go over some room ideas later today. If that will work for you?"

"Room ideas?" Garrett was baffled.

"Of course. Bella is going to be our daughter so you will get to be our son." Esme smiled again, "I always wanted a big family."

If Garrett had been human his heart rate would have gone through the roof. He was older than Carlisle in human years. How could he pass as his son? He loved being a nomad. He never considered what it would be like to stay with a family. He also knew he did not want to go to school all the time. He occasionally worked jobs but it was because he wanted to and he would leave once the wanderlust began. He started to panic but didn't want to disappoint his mate if this was what she wanted. He plastered a smile to his face, "I'm not sure it is the right time to decorate a room. Bella has agreed to let me turn her but she doesn't know we are mates. I'm not going to tell her until I know she is fully over Edward. I don't want her to feel any conflict with her emotions."

Esme looked a little disappointed and sighed, "I suppose that is the best but I'll still give you the questionnaire to fill out I give to my clients."

"That's great, Esme." Garrett thought he might be getting a headache and he wondered if the mating bond made that feeling possible for a vampire.

Finally, Bella came into the kitchen. Her face brightened when she saw Garrett. "I'm sorry I stole your bed last night. I don't know how I got there."

"I put you there," Garrett smiled tenderly at her, "since I am to be your sire it is my responsibility to care for you until and after you are changed. I knew you needed your sleep and I wanted you to be comfortable."

"I guess I did my beauty sleep."

Garrett shook his head disapprovingly and stepped toward Bella leaning down to whisper huskily in her ear, "If you were any more beautiful men, wolves, and vampires would be ripping down the door to get to you. They practically are already." He was rewarded with a pink blush across her cheek. "Want to go practice me," he added before pulling away?

Bella just nodded slowly her eyes never straying from Garrett's.
