I Do Not Own Twilight
Bella nuzzled into Garrett's chest as he ran away from the auditorium as quickly as he could. She knew she should be afraid of Edward's wrath but nestled in Garrett's arms she felt completely safe. Garrett on the other hand was frantic with worry. His inner vampire was demanding he get her to safety as quickly as possible.
He began scanning ahead looking for a fast car he could steal. He could run as fast with a car but it he knew it would leave a scent trail Edward would be able to follow. He continued running but chanced a glance at his mate. Bella was smiling serenely with her head in his chest. Seeing her relaxed in his arms calmed him down emotionally.
In the auditorium Edward made a quick escape from Charlie. He started following Garrett's scent trail and was smug knowing he was faster than Garrett. He could already tell the scent was getting stronger meaning he was gaining ground on the couple. Suddenly, there was an explosion against his right side. He was thrown into a tree. Edward was feral, growling and snarling as he picked himself up off the ground.
He lunged in the direction the attack came from. He slammed into a lithe figure who didn't even flinch at the attack. Edward snarled and tried to bite the arm that was reaching around his shoulders to throw him off. His attacker chuckled, "You think bitin' me's a smart move, Edward?" Edward recognized the drawl of his brother, Jasper.
Jasper threw Edward away from him and smirked. He got into a defensive crouch and waited to see what Edward would do. "I don't wanna fight ya. Bella isn't your mate. She was yer singer and ya need ta let her go."
"Never!" Edward growled venom running down his face. "She is mine! Made for me! Her blood calls to me!"
Carlisle had caught up to his sons and caught the end of Edward's declaration, "Edward a mate's blood doesn't call to a vampire. You don't struggle not to drain a mate. If you still want to drink from Bella, she isn't your mate. Stop this insanity before it gets out of hand."
Edward made several half lunges toward the two men to warn them to stay back. He let out a loud roar then fled into the woods behind him. Jasper took off after him to make sure he wasn't going to double back and trace Garrett's scent again. He hoped Edward would come to his senses but after feeling the hate and bloodlust Edward was feeling Jasper knew his brother would soon be ended. He hoped he wasn't the one that would have to do it, but he wouldn't shy away from it either. He would protect Bella with his life and if Edward had to die for it to happen then so be it.
Garrett found a black Mustang parked next to a diner and hot-wired it after gently placing Bella in the passenger seat. He floored the car and headed toward Montana doubling back and taking back roads in order to avoid detection. Only when he received a text from Jasper saying he followed Edward up to Canada headed in the direction of Denali did Garrett start to relax.
He glanced over at Bella who hadn't taken her eyes off of him. Realizing she was ogling him caused Garrett to feel something he didn't think possible, bashful. He thought he would be blushing if he could. He cleared his throat, looked back at her, and tried to start a conversation to take her eyes off of him, "Bella what were you smiling about while we were running for your life? You actually looked relaxed and happy." He looked at her thoughtfully.
"I was relaxed and happy," she smiled lovingly at him. "Once I was snuggled in your arms, I realized I have never felt safer and more loved than I did in that moment." She paused checking to see his reaction. She glanced back at her hands, "Right now, I was thinking that I am ready to be your mate in every way possible. I want you to change me as soon as we get there. I want forever with you. I want to be yours."
The car jerked as Garrett whipped his head in her direction causing Bella to giggle, "You are mine," he whispered huskily trying to calm himself down. "As soon as we get there, I will turn you," he agreed solemnly.
His mind was full of all the things he could do with Bella once she was changed. If he would have been human, his heart would have been beating wildly with his excitement. She would be much safer once changed and possibly Edward would be able to let her go once the smell of her blood was gone.
Bella leaned her head against his shoulder while he rested his hand on her shoulder and caressed her collar bone with his fingers. She took a deep breath full of his scent and sighed. "I love how you smell," she murmured as she was started to doze. Garrett replied by kissing the top of her head, "you smell good too."
Once he arrived at his house all the tension he had been feeling was released. He gently moved her off his shoulder, flitted to the other side of the car, and scooped her up. He opened the front door and smiled at the thought he was carrying her over the threshold. He supposed biting his mate was the equivalent of a wedding in vampire terms. He got a thrill out of the thought she would soon be his.
Bella felt herself being lifted. Her eyes fluttered open just as he was carrying her inside the door. "Garrett," She breathed his name smiling.
"We're home, Bella," a shiver went down her spine at hearing him say this was her home. She reached up to his neck and wrapped her arms around him. She pressed her lips against his. She felt the whoosh of vampire movement and the next thing she knew she was seated on his lap with his arms around her pulling her closely to his body. His lips were all over hers.
Garrett threaded his finders through her hair. He knew he needed to bite her soon, but he was going to miss her humanity. He loved the smell of her blood, her warmth, and her soft skin. He loved the feel of her mouth on his as he kissed her. He needed time to say goodbye to the Bella he had loved.
Bella pulled away from his mouth and looked into his golden eyes. "I'm ready," she whispered firmly.
Garrett grunted his acknowledgment of her words, but he didn't trust his voice not to break if he spoke. He loved this woman in front of him and while he knew he would love the women she would become even more it hurt to let her go.
"I have done everything I needed too." Alice and Rosalie had told Bella about the grooming she should do in order to not be left with unwanted body hair. Bella had taken care of this knowing her legs would be on display during their dance. It seemed to her that fate was ready for her change to happen.
Garrett kissed her once chastely on the lips. Then a second time. Followed by a third before he kissed her neck gently. He licked her pulse point. Then he bit down. Her blood filling his mouth. This was the most divine blood he had ever tasted. He took four large pulls savoring every drop before he started pumping her full of venom.
The burn started in her neck and began to spread from there. She felt a burning in wrists, followed by her ankles. Finally, Garrett placed his lips on her ear and whispered, "I love you, Bella."
Garrett lifted Bella up and laid her on his bed. He laid down next to her and whispered his love and adoration as she burned. He took out his phone and sent an address to Jasper. He knew they would get there before she woke up. He just hoped Edward wouldn't follow.
