Maybe for the hundredth time, she wished that she had the ability to be invisible. Not just invisible but apart from her body in general. She hated it, it was just a cage decorated with skin. She hated that she couldn't just pass-through Lauren in the hall.
"You probably got hopeful, didn't you?" Lauren laughed, making the people around her laugh, too. "As if he's stupid enough to make the same mistake twice." She wanted to roll her eyes, Lauren thought she was piercing her heart with mean intended words, but it was nothing she didn't know. It was nothing new, she already thought all of them before Lauren repeated some. It was just annoying. Lauren was like a fly who just wouldn't leave her alone, harmless but annoying with all that noise.
"And what mistake that would be?" She flinched; she didn't expect to hear Emmett's booming voice soon again. She did her best avoiding them whole week but somehow, they kept finding ways to meet her, she didn't understand why. Was it some kind of a test? Keep your friends close, enemies closer? Maybe they were worried that she would spill the beans about their secrets. They were just probably monitoring her. She got lost in her head again and didn't notice when or how Lauren and her minions scrawled away. She came to her senses when his big hand touched her shoulder. Familiar and yet very much missed feeling of his cold hand through her thin shirt made her flinch. Emmett immediately pulled his hand away.
"I'm sorry." He whispered. "I didn't mean to hurt you, probably forgot about how fragile you guys are." There was a veiled amusement in his voice, as always. But she tended to hear things she wanted to hear when it came to the Cullens so maybe it was disgust. Of her kind. She just shook her head and tried to walk around him, only to be cut by his body.
"Bells, I know we did you ugly and wrong. I'm so sorry! But we can't make you forgive us if you avoid us like plague. Look, I thought the perfect punishment: I beat the shit out of Edward and break his legs so that he will always be on his knees, begging for your forgiveness. How about that?" He chuckled.
Like a flicker of light, the numbness enveloping her whole body turned into anger. How dare he joke like that? To her face?! Taunting her with so called forgiveness. She knew that ship sailed long ago. She should've gone to their house and apologies for her stupidness after her birthday. Maybe then they would've forgiven her and keep her around. But it was too late now. He was obviously taunting her, and it enraged her. She would've expected this from Rosalie. Not Emmett.
"There is nothing to apologize and nothing to be forgiven. Leaving the pets they don't want to take care of anymore, deep in the forest is a common practice of humankind." She used his shocked state to advantage and quickly walked around him towards her class. She squeezed her eyes shut, begging herself not to cry. She didn't understand why they hated her so much. Him-she understood. He spent one century to wait for his mate and was cheated of the experience of firsts with her. He kissed her, he held her, he told her he loved her. These were all experiences he would've wanted to live with his mate. He had so many regrets about her, and it made sense that he hated her. But why his family? Her head was full of questions, and she had no energy to fight for answers, not at all.
AN: I would love to read about your opinions! Reviews are very few and honestly it's making me feel like nobody is reading my story. You can tell me about what you think could be better, I have no problems with criticism as long as not expressed in a disrespectful way.
