"I don't know if I'll be good at pretending Carlisle." She whispered. Her eyes were glued on her hands which were still clasped tightly within his. It was such a strange feeling, to feel cold hands holding her again. It felt both familiar and foreign, safe and dangerous at the same time and she didn't know how it was possible.
"Bella…" He took a deep breath, even though she knew that he did not need it. "When Edward told you those lies when he was leaving you, he didn't mean that he was pretending to love you. He meant pretending to be human." She shook her head, refusing to believe that because it didn't make sense. If he was tired of pretending to be human, he wouldn't continue attending high school and all the other stupid stuff they do. The issue was not that she was human, but rather, she was her. Isabella. Her very own being.
"I'm not good at convincing you, I know. I know after all that happened, you don't feel like you can trust our words. I know. But please let us try. Let Emmett and Alice spend some time with you, if you are convinced that you can't trust Edward and Jasper. They didn't do anything, right?" His voice raised to the end, getting hopeful and maybe a little bit excited.
She wanted to shut down the idea. Yes they didn't do anything. But that was a big portion of the problem, she trusted Alice and Emmett the most and they just left her. Not even bothering to say goodbye. Although Carlisle said that Edward prohibited them to contact her, she had a hard time imagining Edward being able to physically stop Emmett.
But her heart… Her heart wanted to call that girl back. The girl who sat down in front of their porch, pretending to listen to Alice going on and on about some designer in Paris. The girl who watched the love of her life wrestle with the man who she considered a brother, their motions too fast for her eyes but their laughter and silent cursed words in her ears. She wanted that girl back. She was tired of being the ghost of her. So she just gulped down a few times and nodded.
