He decided to take a leaf out of Carlisle's book. It seemed to go through Charlie provided a better response from Bella than climbing up her window. Edward was conflicted, he didn't know if visiting her was a good idea or not, her state after meeting Alice worried everyone. He ached to see her, hold her again but he was terrified of setting her off to another disassociation episode. He clenched and unclenched his fists, hoping to relieve the tension a little bit, it didn't work.

He could hear Charlie talking on the phone but nothing from Bella. He listened carefully, to hear music, maybe the voice of pages turning while she read, but nothing. Only calming voice was the beat of her heart.

He knocked, Charlie came and opened the door. He didn't seem surprised to see him there, only angry a little bit. He always had a hard time reading Charlie's thoughts, especially when he was emotional like this. His mind was blurry as always, but he could pick the anger.

"What do you want?" He asked, his face stoic.

"Good evening, sir. I was hoping to talk to Bella."

"Didn't you try enough? Your father came, too. I'm sure you're aware. She is not the girl you left behind."

"I know, sir. I'm aware of what have I done but- but I was hoping to talk to her and maybe salvage what we had before."

Charlie watched him carefully, trying to determine if he was lying or not. He knew that his daughter was long gone, he had seen it happen with some officers who had traumatizing experiences. They got worse and worse, it never got better. At that point, they had nothing to lose so he sighed and let the boy in.

Watching the awkward teenage boy climb upstairs to her room, he felt very sad and hopeless. He would move on, of course he would. And Bella would learn how to pretend to be okay at some point and go on with her life. It was saddening to know that she would never be the cheery teenage girls he saw around.

Come to think of it, Bella had never been cheery. Maybe this was why this heartbreak knocked her over so hard, she was already sad.

He shook his head and returned the call of Billy, planning their fishing trip ahead.

If there was a fact Charlie Swan knew, it was that there were no point in dwelling on what you can't fix.

A\N: Since the scene in Eclipse where he laughs and fist bumps Jacob for assaulting her daughter, I don't think good things about Charlie Swan. I also don't understand how seeing your child managing bills, cooking etc. doesn't alarm you as a parent and how you don't demand your wife to explain yourself. I guess turning Bella into a mini adult was in both parents' favor so they didn't care.
