Alex Pov

Still in his office

"What is the plan for training?" I asked, "I need to be able to use my great sword by the end of this."

"Well, we will be starting off the first year with strength training and weapons training, you have a good grasp on swordsmanship already, but with your magic to make other types of weapons I want you to learn as many as you can while still keeping up in swordsmanship." He said

"Wouldn't it be better to just train my sword to be the best it can be?" I asked, "I don't see the reason for training with other weapons as all I need is my sword and my main weapon is going to be the great sword."

"Different locations can call for different weapons," he said looking at me. "You can't always use a great sword, let's say you're inside you cannot use that type of weapon there. With this training, you will have more options available to you. And you can always change your weapon mid-fight and confuse your opponent like when you were manipulating the length of your sword constructs." He pointed out

"Oh I see, this will be quite useful then," I said as I crossed my arms. "Is that all we will be doing for the first year?"

"No, I will be taking you on high-ranked missions to prepare you for what you will be going through."

"What will I be doing?" I asked

"There is currently a rebellion happening in a Pergrande Kingdom and the rebels are getting assistance from the Cult of Zeref, with the promise of an artifact that the king possesses. And you will be going there to help the king end the rebellion, interrogate all the Cult's members to get information, and wipe them off the face of the map."

"Will I be strong enough to do this in just two years?" I asked

"Yes, you will be I shall make sure of that," he replied

"What about the second year I got the idea that this year is going to be more physical than magical."

"Correct," he said. "For the second year I will have you train with our more experienced members that can use magic, we aren't the best at magic considering we're a mercenary guild, not a mage guild."

"Why not just let me go train with the mages of a mage guild if our people here aren't as well versed in magic?" I asked.

"Well there is two reasons I can't let you go to one," he said holding up two fingers. "The first would be that the mission I'm going to be sending you on is one of the hardest that can be assigned to a mage, I think they called it a decade quest and they only let high class mages take them." He said putting one finger down.

"My second reason for not letting you go is that you're going to have to kill and interrogate people on this mission and mage guilds are not allowed to do that, only the dark guilds kill, people and they are illegal guilds that aren't sanctioned by the magic council which means all guilds will refuse to allow you in when they know what you are planning." He finished by putting his second finger down.

'this is going to be good, I need to find her and this seems to be the only way I can. I just hope that they have the information I need.' I thought.

"Okay, when do we begin?" I asked

"Tomorrow," he said. "Also I will test you after the year is over to see your skills and if you don't pass I won't send you and ill have your memory erased." He said causing me to gulp, "so take this seriously I know your motivation and I expect you to keep it no matter how difficult it gets."

"Right," I said.

"Now leave I have work to do."

As I turned and walked out the door before I closed it I just had to say something.

"Thank you," I said closing the door and walking back to my apartment.

The Next Day

I brought my weapon to the forest just like he asked and I was surprised by his first request.

"From today forwards you will be wearing weights and practicing with your great sword, I know you can lift it for a while now and the weights will make it harder for now but eventually you will be able to swing it as easily as you would a standard straight sword."

'Oh no this is going to be so much worse than Tomas's training' I gulped

"O-okay.." I said strapping the weights to my arms and legs.

As I went to pick up my weapon he attacked me pushing me back from the sword.

"You need to be faster than that if you want to learn from me kid, from now on you are only able to fight back when you have your sword if not you only doge."

"What!" I said

He only attacked me again for standing still.

"This is the training, if you don't like it give up!" He said giving me a gash across the cheek. "I want you to survive this mission not die like a dog in a desert!"

'This bastard is really going to make me work for it!' I thought

I ran for my sword nearly reaching it when he kicked me in the side sending me flying.

"You bastard!" I yelled as I ran for the sword again this time dodging his strikes and attempting to pick it up when he kicked me again.

"Argh!" I grunted after the kick.

hours later

After the majority of the day passed all I managed was to get beaten badly.

'So much for not wanting me to die on this job,' I thought

"Well done kid," he said. "Now go home and get some rest we will be working on this for quite a while considering your lack of dodging prowess." He finished getting a growl from my mouth.

"If you still have the energy we can continue." He said mockingly

'Oh shit,' I thought running away.

This type of training would keep going on for weeks upon weeks, every time I would get close I would be kicked away harder and harder. One day I managed to grab hold of my sword once more and tried to lift it only to be rudely kicked in the face. After that, I decided I was doing something wrong, so I decided to start doing tests to see how he moved when I did a certain action. And how he would attack either kicking, slashing, thrusting, and when he would try something I wouldn't expect. After. While of observation, I managed it I learned how he would attack in what situations and when to doge and when to counter an attack then I did it, I finally managed to get the sword and ready myself.

"Congratulations kid, you are ready for the next stage in your training." He said. "Now you are going to start attacking with your weapon and I'm going to add more weights to your arms and legs on top of the ones you are currently wearing."

"Bring it on!" I yelled, getting a smile from him.

"That's the spirit!" He said walking up to me with the weights.

That night I went home with cuts, bruises and blood all over my body so much so that I had to spend days washing out the blood from my clothing. After this our training would evolve and change constantly always leaving me bloody by the end of it. Before I knew it the first month past, then the second, then the third, then the sixth, then the ninth, then before I knew it the first year had passed.

"Whelp Alexander, you made it through the year, and now it's time for your test," he said still as stoic as ever, although I could tell I had grown on him a little bit considering he started calling me by my name a few months ago.

"Well, what do you have for me?" I asked.

"I want you to go and hunt a pack of wyverns, by yourself without the use of your magic." He said, "this will be your final test and I expect you to only be gone for a week at the latest."

'Hmm shouldn't be too hard of a fight.' I thought and since our training started Redlam has started to take me out on high ranked jobs that would put my skills to the test, but I could tell what he was going for in this test.

'He knows I've always had trouble with wyverns without the use of my magic.' I thought.

"Yes, it is what you're thinking I want you to do what you could not do when we first started, go and hunt a pack of wyverns by yourself without the use of your magic. And don't come back until you are finished I will not accept failure on this. And remember if you don't return within a week I will ban you from going to Pergrande Kingdom and erase your memories so you better take this seriously."

"I will!" I said determinedly.

"Good now here is the request from the board, you will leave this evening." He said handing me the request which was to slay a pack of wyverns that were terrorizing a village called Shirosume. "Now that you read it get ready now!" He said causing me to run off back towards my apartment.

This evening

"Bastard!" I thought, "he knew that it would take four days by foot to get there and I don't have enough money for the train!"

The reason I didn't have any money for the train went back about a month. When he came in and told me that I had a ton of debt piling up due to my apartment needing to be paid for.

Flashback start

"WHAT!" I yelled at him, "I was never told that I had to pay for this place!"

"Well of course you do it's a house and they don't come free!" He laughed

"Bastard, alright how much do I owe you? I have about three million saved up from the missions we've taken." I asked

"Well, what a coincidence it's three million jewel!" He said with a big smile on his face causing me to scowl."

'That bastard, he knew about the rent all along and just didn't tell me! And he purposefully took me on those jobs so I would have just enough money to pay for this damned apartment!'

I begrudgingly went up to my safe, unlocked it, and gave him the Jewel.

"There you go, bastard," I said handing it over.

"Thanks!" He said laughing at me while walking off.

Flashback end

'Bastard I still hate him for it, he could have told me when we started spending every day together training.'

"Asshole," I said walking off into the distance.

Four days later

I finally arrived in Shirotsume after the walk and it was just boring. There was nothing special about this town it had normal brown housing and a standard marketplace that sold food, clothing, jewelry, and other random things. Finally, after an hour of walking around town, I made it to the mayor's house.

"Welcome I assume you're here for the job about the wyverns?" He asked.

"Yep," I said. "So where are they located?"

"They nest on the mountain about five miles north of here." He said pointing out the window towards a gigantic mountain.

"They're on the peak aren't they?" I asked.

"Yes, that's where they made their nest." He said nodding.

"Well know a good place to get a large coat?" I asked looking at the man who just smiled.

"Why yes, I do there are quite a lot in our marketplace!" He said.

Sighing I just walked out of the building towards the marketplace.

After getting all the items needed for the trek up the mountain I decided that it was time to start my climb. Three hours in I found a cave full of Vulcans and I decided to play with them for a bit.

"Hey!" I yelled into the cave.

"Oh a human, what's one doing here?" One asked.

"Oh a human, what's he doing here?" A different one asked.

This went on a total of twenty times causing me no end of torment at their stupidity.

"Shut up!" I yelled getting them all to look at me.

"Now we are going to fight so I can have some fun if you run ill kill you and if you stay I can let you live I guess," I said digging my pinky finger into my ear to get some wax out.

"Arrogant human I shall kill you!" A Vulcan said charging me.

"Finally!" I said

We fought for about 20 minutes before I remembered what I was doing. And I looked at all the bloody creatures around me.

"Whelp I gotta go ill see you guys when I get back from the peak!" I said walking off.

"I don't like red-haired humans," one said weakly trying to stand.

"I don't like the red-haired human he's scary," another one said.

As I walked off into the distance I heard a similar saying a total of twenty times making me smile.

More hours passed and I finally reached the peak of the mountain and found the wyverns. And when I did I saw that they were protecting some herbs that seemed like their food source and I decided not to rile them up all at once by traipsing into the field of plants.

I saw some wyverns separated from their pack so I decided to take them out first.

"Hmm," I murmured. 'Their are a total of 7 wyverns here, its good that these two are separated I don't want to have to fight all seven at once that's just suicide.'

I slowly crept up on one of the wyverns.

'Ah here we go a nice wide open neck that I can stab,' I thought as I readied my great sword.

As I plunged my weapon into its neck the other noticed it struggling and flew over to help.

'Great I don't need to go for the other one,' I thought. 'Luckily I have already killed its friend so I don't have to fight two at once, but I do have to kill it quickly or it could alert its friends.'

As the wyvern came closer I managed to hide behind the other body and wait for it to get close so I could strike. As it did I jumped over the dead wyvern and onto the others back ready to plunge my weapon into it's head. Once I had slain the beast it was time to go for the others.

'Well, this isn't too hard only five left.' And as I thought that I heard a roar from behind me in the air. I turned to look at what could have only been described as a gigantic wyvern about two times the size of the ones I just killed.

'Oh well, this is going to get interesting it seems like I've come across a wyvern alpha.

2 hours later

Now at the base of the mountain, I could only celebrate my luck.

'a bag full of wyvern alpha scales, I'm rich!' I thought excitedly. 'Now all that's left is to head to the mayor's office and tell him I got the job done.'

It took about 20 minutes to reach the office of the mayor.

"here you go proof of completion," I said handing him one scale of the alpha.

"Well thank you for taking care of the problem," he said with a smile. "We couldn't take any more of those wyverns attacking our trade caravans leaving town it was such a bother!"

"Whelp if you ever need any more help you know who to contact!" I said walking off.

"Thank you!" He said

'Well that was eventful I'm rich and I've passed the test, now it's time to get back so I can start my magic training.'

HAH! it is done!

I hope you all enjoyed that I know I did!
