The light of various small flames and the chatter of many faded into Kagome's senses as she sat in front of a figure whose eyes were shadowed by off-white, maybe cream bangs. From what she could see of him were his clothes that consisted of a black yukata, a white obi, a red haori, and resting over said haori was a white Inugami with three eyes and three tails, looking ferocious but was actually quite relaxed. With the yukata opened, revealing chest and down to his obi, his torso was wrapped in white bandages similar to yakuza.
Upon the demon male's face, Kagome could see him giving a smile that showed roguish confidence as not only a leader but in his power, looks and everything else about him, including a masculine charisma she had never seen or felt from any other demon.
He was one in a league completely on his own despite what legends say about him only sneaking into homes to steal food and harass humans just to cause a little trouble.
He was a sneaky youkai who cause trouble for harmless fun but would fight if necessary. Nothing like Naraku who caused trouble, doing a lot of damage to the lives of his targets in the process and would run like the coward he was when trouble becomes too much for him.
The handsome youkai who sat in front of her lifted an empty sake dish to her before she accepted it and he lifted his own and allowed a woman dressed in a white kimono and scarf to pour sake into the dishes.
With them filled, the male youkai before her lifted his to her in a kanpai (drinking a toast) manner. Kagome lifted hers in return before the youkai linked his arm, which held his dish of sake, with hers before drinking the sake.
The miko felt her self give an amused sound before also drinking and they parted, unlinking their arms from one another.
Sounds of approval and celebration could be heard around them as she and her now new youkai ally and friend gave each other their own smiles before he spoke, "With this Sasazuki, you are now a part of the Nura clan and will be known as our Hyakki Yakō no Miko, Kagome-chan."
Kagome felt her self smile even more before she replied, "It's a great honor to be a part of your clan... Nurarihyon..." At his slight frown that almost looked like a pout, Kagome laughed before apologizing and correcting herself, "Sorry, I mean, Nura-san..."

The first light of morning shone brightly through the light thin curtains of a one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment before waking the sleeping occupant in the bedroom. The small form still curled underneath the covers, not wanting to get up yet but having no other choice because out of habit and it was the first day of school.
The top of a head of raven hair could be seen just peeking out of the covers as well as a pair of blue eyes that were squinting against the brightness of the sunlight managed to land in her partially exposed face. After their blurred vision cleared and saw the time, the small form sat up, letting the covers gather at their waist as they stretched their arms over their head with a yawn.
The covers had revealed a young girl of twelve to thirteen years with long, slightly messy raven hair that reached passed her waist and framing her smooth face and a body that was a bit more developed for her age. Rubbing her eyes to get rid of the sleep still in them, she looked to the window before getting out of bed and opening the curtains to let more light in.
After soaking in some of the morning sunlight, the girl gave another stretch, thinking, 'that dream... no that memory again. I've been having that same one almost every night now since I had moved to this town. Maybe I'll run into him and his clan again? I wouldn't doubt that him and his clan being youkai that they could live along into this era...'
She then walked to her closet where her new school uniform hung and headed to the bathroom to take a quick shower. Once her quick shower and the rest of her morning ritual were done, she started to dress for school and make breakfast.
On the way to the kitchen, she noticed there was a message on her answering machine. Raising a brow and wondering who it was, the young teen pressed the play button and heard the answering machine say that the message that the message was received at about five that morning. The girl frowned as she made her way to the kitchen, questioning why someone would call her that early in the morning.
"Kagome-chan... it's Jí-chan..." the elderly voice from the recording made the girl, Kagome pause when she was about to open the fridge before she continued to listen to more of the recording, "I know that it's been almost three years since you left Kyoto and not wanting anything to do with the clan because of all the planning we had done to secure your future..."
"Gee, why else do you think I left? It certainly wasn't only because of me going through a so called rebellious stage." Kagome said sourly to the recording, her face set in her light scowl as if she was actually talking to the old man. Taking out the things she needed to make a Bacon and Cheese omelet, she continued to listen to the recorded message while also getting out a skillet for the bacon and a bowl to scramble the eggs in, "But it was just for that- to secure your future and rightful place within the Keikain House. It's the same with when the elders suggested and I agreed that Ryuuji would be most suitable to become your future husband."
Kagome's frowned deepened before she made a gagging sound at the mere mention of the crazy hypocritical ass with a godly complex. The guy, no matter how many years older he was than her, just gave her the creeps and just plain pissed her off at times when he even tried berating her beliefs of Youkai not being completely evil and how humans could be far worse than youkai.
'Not to mention how he always rubs it in my face that the elders chose him for my husband-to-be and making him think that he can have any control over me! Same goes with the way he seems to go bipolar when he suddenly tries acting nice and looking at me like I'm a Zashiki-Warashi or Amaterasu before he starts acting cruel and high and mighty.'
The young blue-eyed girl had to reign in her anger so she wouldn't break the glass mixing-bowl she was getting out after she had started cooking the bacon.
"I'm guessing that despite my efforts of trying to get you to come back to Kyoto, you probably won't come home at all. You always do tend to make your own choices and follow you through your decisions with your head up high. Truly someone that the elders believed would make a good official of the Branch family you were adopted into."
"You got that right, o-san! Even if you and all of the branch families were to bow and beg, I won't hesitate to say no." Kagome said, turning the bacon over in the skillet to allow the strips the cook to a crisp evenly.
In all honesty, Kagome didn't hate her Keikain Jí-san... she just couldn't stand how he and the other elders try taking over her life, feeding her their beliefs, and making her decisions for her, despite that they had already made her an official of sorts due to the level of her power and being able to use it without the need to channel it through shikigami. Not to mention her intellect in the decisions she made after the death of her adoptive father, the previous representative of the branch family he lead.
"Since there's a likely chance of that being the case, I won't force you to come back against your will. But since you're in Ukiyoe Town..."
'And here comes the favor asking.' Kagome thought as she set her crispy bacon on a paper towel to get rid of the excess grease on it before getting to work on scrambling the eggs after getting rid of most of the grease in the skillet.
"I hope you can do a favor for your ol' Jí-chan..." Kagome frowned once again at the hopeful tone in the elderly man's voice and muttered, "I knew it."
"It's that time of the year for the younger onmyoji to set out for their training on their own in the locations assigned to them and Yura-chan is a part of that group who are believed to be ready for this. You remember Yura-chan, ne?"
"Who could forget about her when she's the younger sister of that bastard Ryuuji." Kagome started cracking a couple of eggs before she started to scramble them while mixing in some garlic salt and a little pepper before pouring it into the skillet. "Not to mention she always tended to be not too far from where I am just staring at me."
"It seems that Yura-chan has been assigned to train in Ukiyoe Town... and since you're the only one within that area who had ties with the Keikain Clan... I was hoping you would look out for Yura-chan."
Kagome's frown turned into a scowl while stirring her eggs, "Hell no. I'm not babysitting the kid sister of that psychotic bastard."
"And before you say no..." Kagome twitched before she continued to listen, "I'm willing to pay you for watching over her. Yura-chan will have her own place and be having her own budget for school supplies and food but you'll be making sure that she stays out of trouble and such."
'Basically... I'm still babysitting her.'
As she was pouring her eggs into the skillet, Kagome continued to listen to her Keikain grandfather, "But before she left for Ukyoe Town, I told Yura-chan that Ukyoe Town is your territory and she has to obey your rules, even if the rule is to not kill any youkai that are not doing any harm to humans. So if she does anything, concerning her training and you don't approve, you can send her home immediately. Aside from everything else, the money I'm paying you will be yours alone to spend for yourself and Yura-chan has her own budget to manage and is not allowed to ask you for any kind of help concerning her expenses."
'Wow... she is gonna live it rough... especially when I'm not even going to give her the chance to kill any youkai that are minding their business.' Kagome thought with a rueful upturn of her lips.
"That's all I really wanted to call you about; just be on the lookout for when Yura-chan arrives and just keep tabs on her while keeping her out of trouble. I'm sorry you had to receive this so early in the morning. I will call again to see how everything is going on your own and about Yura-chan's progress. Once I hear that Yura-chan's arrived in Ukyoe Town safely, I'll start the preparations of your payments."
And with that, Kagome heard the tone before hearing her answering machine say it was the end of the message and she had no messages left. The miko child sighed as she continued to keep and eye on her eggs. Once they were done she added the cheese and bacon and was ready to serve. With a glass of juice and a slice of toast, her breakfast was complete.
During her morning meal, Kagome mulled over her grandfather's words about getting paid while just keeping an eye on Yura. Even though she told her grandfather that she cut all ties that connected her with the Keikain clan, the old man still saw her as family and someone he could trust 'outside' the family.
'Especially when I was placed as one of the clan's strongest spiritualists, even at such a young age... not to mention my adoptive father was always favored among the clan.' She thought, munching on her omelet while remembering the short amount of years she had been with the Keikain clan in Kyoto.
With Naraku's death came the sacrifice if her own life for the safety of her friends' that the evil hanyou had ruined during his lifespan. Due to the jewel not wanting any other guardian and wanting to give said guardian a second chance (as a sort of reward), the souls within gathered their energies to grant that second chance; a task that used so much energy and forcing it into dormancy.
Born as an orphan, she was found five years later in an orphanage by her adoptive father, who was a laidback man with a strong ability to sense auras. Kagome was told that as he was looking for children within the distant branch families within the clan, something had tugged at his senses, leading him to the orphanage she was. And as he was looking among the children who looked to him and his party, hoping to become adopted, he came across her looking out a window where she was smiling at a Zashiki-Warashi that was sitting on the ledge.
After he adopted her and a few other children with latent powers, Kagome was brought home and raised within one of the branch families of the Keikain clan. With the jewel allowing her to keep her memories, Kagome was also able to keep her knowledge of being a miko, including techniques of how to use her power without the use of shikigami or her bow and arrows.
It was because of her spiritual abilities at a young age – and because of her knowledge from her previous life on how to exorcise evil spirits and very evil youkai that harm humans without the use of shikigami – that she was seated as the head of the branch family that adopted her soon after her adoptive father passed away and was also labeled the youngest of the representatives among the branch families of the Keikain clan.
And all of this was within two years of her being within the clan, despite that she was adopted and was not an onmyoji, but a miko.
But despite her knowledge in not needing a catalyst to exorcise youkai or evil spirits, she was still considered naïve because of the beliefs that stuck with her even after her rebirth thanks to the jewel.
Keikain clan always viewed things "Black and White"; "Yin and Yang". They were of the light and the youkai were the bane of humans. What they didn't understand was that without evil, there was no balance with good.
'And without balance between the two... everything would be plain and boring... no excitement or anything. Not to mention, if they do somehow manage to eradicate all youkai, their so called sacred arts will just fade with time, just like Sango's Taijya arts.' Kagome thought as she rinsed her used dishes before setting them in the dishwasher.
Once that was done, she made her way back to her bedroom to get her school bag and the jacket to her uniform before heading to the entry hall to slip on her shoes. Looking over herself as she slipped on her jacket and getting her house keys, Kagome was certain that she had everything and soon made her way out the door, locking it behind her. After dropping the keys into her bag, Kagome began her trek down the stairs to the first floor and to her new middle school.
Along the way, Kagome couldn't shrug off the annoyance of Yura's arrival that was soon to come. She only hoped that the girl wasn't in her class and wouldn't follow her around like she did when they were younger and she was still with the seated members of the Keikain clan in Kyoto.

Rikuo was sitting at his desk, looking out the window while waiting for class to start. A desk or two away sat his friend since elementary, Ienaga Kana who was talking with her friends, Torii Natsumi and Saori Maki. Also with them were skeptic turned Youkai fanatic since elementary, Kiyotsugu and his friend, Shima Jirō.
Aside from Kiyotsugu's usual talk of Youkai and their respective legends, Rikuo overheard Torii Natsumi speak, "Kana-chan, did you hear the news?" When she received a curious look from Kana, she continued, "We're going to be having a new student in our class today."
"A new student...?" Kana asked, a bit curiously.
This bit of news caught Rikuo's curiosity as Saori Maki affirmed with a barely noticeable blush, "Yeah. I even saw him head to the Teacher's Faculty room and he's really good-looking."
"I also heard that he's going to be attending our class too!" Natsumi said excitedly before Kiyotsugu came over, loudly wondering if the new student would be interested in Youkai.
Before Shima was gonna ask what the new student's name was, the door opened with their homeroom teacher requesting everyone to take their seats. Once she was at the front of the class, she announced, "Today we have a new student who will be attending with us as of today." She turned to the door, "You may come in now, Keikain-kun."
The entire class turned to the door and saw a long haired boy with deep blue eyes and a girlish face enter the room. He stood at about four-foot-ten and wore his uniform neatly with the jacket of his Gakuran reaching to the back of his knees and only the buttons forgoing the standard five gold buttons that were aligned from his collar to his waist.
the teacher then spoke to the new student before writing a name in Kanji on the black board, "So Keikain-kun, why don't you introduce your self."
After nodding to the female teacher, Kagome turned to the classroom with a smile and spoke, "I'm Keikain Kagome. I just moved her from Kyoto recent and I hope we can get along."
Earlier when Kagome came to the front gate of the school, she could sense two full bred youkai within the school while sensing one that felt similar to a hanyou, but slightly weaker.
'One quarter of a demon, perhaps?' she had thought but decided that since she didn't feel anything signaling that they were there to harm humans and since no one was running around like chickens with their heads cut off, then everything was fine.
After she was able to find the Teacher Faculty room and met her homeroom teacher, Kagome was led to homeroom where she could feel the third energy, the one with one quarter of demon blood in them residing in the room. And when she walked into the room and made a subtle but quick sweep before she cause sight of a boy sitting close to the windows.
His hair was both light and dark brown, showing which part of his hair had more exposure to the sun, over his dark chocolate brown eyes he wore a pair of glasses, and under his open Gakuran jacket he wore a red zip-up sweater. He was a rather cute boy for his age and the demonic aura she sensed from him felt similar to another she met a long time ago.
When introducing herself was over and she stood from her bow, Kagome almost stiffened when some of the girls in the classroom started to swoon. She looked down at her self, wondering if she really looked like a boy just because she didn't wear the girls uniform.
Then before she knew it, most of the girls and a few of the guys started to ask questions all together. When it started to get too loud, the teacher suggested that every held on to their questions until lunch period before she assigned Kagome to sit in from of Nura Rikuo; the same boy she sensed was part youkai.
