Sometimes, you can't sleep. And when you can't sleep, you often end up thinking. This follows the thoughts of Beckett and/or Castle as they deal with the nights of insomnia. Marked as complete because I don't know how long this will go - it's a bunch of connected one-shots. Follow if you like it!

Castle watched Beckett get shot, nearly bleed to death in his hands, waited for someone else to save her life, learned that she couldn't remember his confession of love, were told to wait. And he waited. A taste of what Castle's summer might have been like. Warning: Angst. Melodramatic, maybe.

She listens to the way his breathing settles, tries to get lost in it but all she can think of is her mother, of the way she had looked fourteen years ago that morning, so composed, so brilliant, the lines around her eyes filled with laughter.

"This wasn't the first time that these outbursts had come to this level of violence, but seeing no emotion on his face, like he didn't even seem to register what he did; seemed to make it hurt that much more."

She couldn't let it happen. She wouldn't. One-shot.
