I own nothing but a weird brain. Enjoy. Warning I AM WIERD. Also I watch Call the Midwife but not since my grandmother died.
Hours pressed on. Mirabel was leaning against the headboard and a wall of pillows. Bruno sat next to her rubbing her belly and humming a soothing melody. She first winced then bucked up, Bruno caught her in his arms and held on as she squeezed him.
"Gah, AHHHHHHHHHHH!" She screamed with her head right next to Bruno's
"That's it just let it out." He cooed in her ear as lightning flashed across the sky and the rain blew heavily across her window. Mirabel gasped as the contraction subsided and she went limp against him breathing heavily. He sat there and held her while rubbing her back.
"You're doing so great Mira." He said affectionately as he gently helped her to lean back against the pillows.
"You say that but I don't feel like it." She said very heady showing that she was tired.
"Trust me. I've delivered over 20 babies in my life." Bruno said using a cold towel on her sweaty forehead.
"Does that include any of us?" Mirabel asked curiously. Bruno squinted his face weirdly and shook his head making her laugh at his discomfort.
"I saw enough of my sisters growing up to ever do THAT. But I was always around when they needed anything. I was more like support from outside the room." He laughed and made her chuckle with him. They heard the scuttling of Casita's tiles outside of the room making Bruno turn and scoot off of the bed as the door opened and a basket of hot food came in through the rumbling of Casita's floors.
"Ah, perfect," Bruno said picking up the basket and bringing it over. Mirabel smelt the hot Arepas and her stomach grumbled.
"Just in time," Mirabel said digging in.
"After your done eating we're going to try walking," Bruno said finishing one and moving on to the next.
"Walking?" Mirabel asked with confusion making him chuckle at her face.
"Yes. Walking can help relieve some pressure as well as keep you from bedsores and muscle atrophy." He relayed with a smile.
"You missed this. Didn't you?" Mirabel asked with a smile. Bruno stared at her before smiling at the realization.
"Yeah, I did." He said eating a cheeseball. She chuckled as she also went for the cheeseballs finishing the basket Bruno set the basket outside of the room letting a storm draft blow in. He shut the door and came back over to the bed holding his arms out towards her just like he did for his vision.
"Ok Princesa, time for a walk," he said gently but with firmness. Mirabel smiled as she took his hand and started moving, she used her legs to push herself towards the edge of the bed towards him. She stopped as her legs dangled off of the bed and started gasping and squinting in pain.
"There you go nice and easy." He said with a smile setting her hands down on her legs.
"I'm not so sure about this." She said gasping while feeling her body ache. But Bruno was a patient man kneeling down and looking at her with a smile and setting his hands on hers holding them steady on her knees.
"It's ok Mirabel. That achiness is your body fighting to stay well. I promise that this is good and it will make you feel better." he cooed at her making her smile, her curls were stringy and sweaty as they fell around her, her skin was glistening with sweat but to Bruno, a pregnant woman in labor was the most beautiful women in the world. Mirabel looked down at her Tio his black clothes contrasted well with his red birthing Poncho and he looked handsome as he smiled showing that he was doing what he loved.
"Ok, now let's get you up," he said standing while holding one of her hands, and Mirabel shuddered nervously looking around at how she was going to stand up with her strength.
Bruno was quick but gentle as he intertwined their legs, she looked up at him in surprise as he smiled before leaning down.
She blushed and was confused at first as he tenderly wrapped himself around her, feeling his body heat as he pressed his chest to hers his stubble tickling her neck as he positioned his head right next to hers, her heart fluttered as he wrapped his arms around her back and held her close his poncho felt like a hot blanket as it too wrapped around her, she rested her arms on his shoulders. Shuddering at the warmth that he gave her and she let herself melt into the embrace never wanting him to let her go leaning her head on his shoulder. Bruno also relished at the feeling, he had fallen in love with midwifery and he had missed it irrevocably. He squished any thoughts he had about how much he was loving doing it again to a woman he actually cares about very much.
But then she felt him begin to pull her towards the end of the bed then she watched him sturdy his stance by wiggling his butt he carefully lifted her to help her stand.
"Easy does it." He said being careful but strong as he helped her to stand. Mirabel shook at the feeling of now standing letting the lasting aches of her contractions be exercised from her muscles.
"Unhhhhhhhhhh." She groaned right into his ear.
"That's it just take a moment." He said instantly but slowly beginning to shift his weight from side to side. Mirabel felt like he was dancing with her while feeling her weight shift back onto her feet.
"Hmmm." She hummed as she settled.
"Very good. Ok, here we go," he said slowly backing away but keeping his arms up to catch her if she needs it. She watched Bruno move away but she didn't want to let him go. She held onto his arms as he continued to smile at her.
"There we go. See your doing great," he said moving to her side. Mirabel stood there and watched as he wrapped his arm around her waist then had her hold his hand.
"Am I?" Mirabel chuckled. Bruno laughed too.
"I promise. Now slow and steady," he said gently pushing her making Mirabel take slow steps. Casita opened the door as Bruno led her out towards the balcony.
