Chapter 3:
Jane walks toward the crime scene the next day. The words from the previous night still playing over and over again in her head like an anthem. 'Do you want to please me'. Who says that? Jane thinks, she could hear arguing as she approaches the body.
"Honestly, I have yet to encounter a more incompetent individual. Were you trained at an accredited academy or did you assume having watched a great deal of television would give you sufficient knowledge of the job?" Maura asks the pale-faced uni.
"Everything ok here?" Jane asks the group. Korsak and Frost are quietly standing by. The officer Maura is talking to looks like he's about to cry.
"Well if you could call moving the body and contaminating the evidence 'ok' then sure, why not?" Maura says calmly as she bends down to examine the body further. Jane nods to the rookie dismissing him. He gives her a grateful smile before walking away on shaky legs.
"Ok. What do we got?" Jane asks finally, looking around the crime scene.
"Victim appears to have been shot with a small-caliber weapon to the frontal cranium. His clothes are disarranged which could indicate a struggle before he died or it could have been from being dragged to the side of the road by an imbecile in uniform. I'll know more once I get the body back to the morgue" Maura says dryly, rising to her feet.
Jane quickly extends her hand to help the doctor up. She rises to her feet wearing her 4-inch red Jimmy Choos effortlessly. Maura watches Janes extended hand with confusion before taking a clipboard from her assistant to sign off the body.
"Right. I'll finish here and meet you back at the lab for the results?" Jane says as Maura retreats to her car. She doesn't get a response. Usually, she gets a 'fine' or a nod. Jane forces herself not to stare at the doctors swaying hips in retreat any longer. She busies herself looking for casings on the ground.
"You should have heard the beginning of it" Frost says with a chuckle. "Pretty sure she used the words 'abhor' and 'infamy'. Might have been less scary if she actually raised her voice during any of it." Frost adds.
"Any witnesses?" Jane asks, trying to change the subject.
"Yeah, one but he's not talking, saying he wants to speak to someone else. Maybe Korsak should get his statement" Frost offers
"You mean he would rather speak to Korsak, a white male?" she says with a fake chuckle "No offense Korsak but I got this one. You comin Frost?" she calls out.
This guy is like the embodiment of a swastika. Oozing intolerance and self-worth. "Hi I'm detective Rizzoli, this is my partner Frost. So you saw something last night around nine pm?" she asks warmly, even adding a smile.
"I'm Derick Hoggins and I don't wanna talk to you either sweetheart no offense. How about you get me your boss?" He says motioning to Korsak in the distance.
Jane smiles once again. She's gonna enjoy this. "Firstly You do realize that withholding information pertinent to an investigation is a felony and I could arrest you? Secondly, Seargent Korsak is not my boss and I won't have him come over here just because you can't bring yourself to talk to an African American or female detective." Jane says calmly.
"I guess you'll just have to do without my statement then" Derrick says smugly.
Jane stares him down, Frost's eyes widen. He knows what's about to happen. "Derick Hoggins you are under arrest for withholding information in regard to a homicide investigation," Jane says as she removes her cuffs.
"You can't do this! You bitch!" he yells and tries to run away. Jane swiftly tackles him and forces his hands behind his back. "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be held against you in a court of law."
Jane gets off him and Frost helps him to his feet. He yells and protests, people in the neighborhood stare. "You have the right to an attorney, if you cannot afford an attorney one will be appointed to you." Jane continues as she leads him to her car.
"You better have a real statement for me when we get to the precinct because fabricating or falsifying information to get attention is also a felony. And that would not be good for you" Jane says as she pushes his head down in the cruiser.
"You'll be hearing from my lawyer! I'm gonna sue you! All of you!" he yells before spitting in Jane's direction. Luckily none of his spit made it on her. Luckily for him.
Jane looks at the spit on the ground. "I'll just add that to the charges then and if I had a dick this is where I would tell you to suck it" she says before slamming the door shut.
Jane sighs in satisfaction "Gah that felt good, not gonna lie" she says to Frost.
"Felt even better watching it go down," Frost says with a grin.
A few hours later Jane makes her way down to the lab. She sighs in relief having missed the part where Maura cuts into the victim's skull with a power tool.
"The bullet is severely damaged so I wouldn't place too much hope in ballistics," Maura says handing the evidence jar to Jane.
"Thanks. I'll run it anyway… Find anything interesting?" Jane asks, leaning on the opposite autopsy table.
"No. I'm just about to go through the stomach contents. It can be quite revealing" Maura says a little more cheerfully as she digs through the contents on a metal tray.
"Can you guess what that is?" Maura says holding the tray closer for Jane to see. "Only if there's a prize," Jane says playfully. Maura rolls her eyes. "Hmm, pancake?" Jane asks.
"Yes!... It's my favorite part" Maura says shyly. "Ingested two hours before he died," she adds.
Jane can't help but smile. Maura is in a much better mood than this morning she thinks.
Maura finishes the autopsy and removes her blue covers, leaving her in her black scrubs. She walks to her office and Jane follows.
"Wow," Jane says staring at the decor in Maura's office. "You… decorated?" Jane says looking at the masks.
"Yes. Tribal ritual masks from East Africa" Maura says as she puts away a file into her cabinet.
"Very… soothing," Jane says sarcastically. "Isn't it?" Maura says genuinely, looking at the masks.
Jane clears her throat nervously. "Um you know Cordan was just trying to help today, it can be tough as a newbie".
"Who?" Maura asks confused as she takes a seat behind her desk.
"Charlie Cordan, the officer that moved the body today" Jane clarifies.
"Oh," Maura says as she opens her laptop.
"Yeah and I mean you can be… intimidating sometimes… scary even" she ads carefully.
Maura looks up. "I should hope so," she says simply. She leans back in her chair and crosses her legs. "What do you hope to achieve with this conversation, Jane?"
There it is again, Jane thinks. "I well. I just think that you know he's probably pretty shaken up and, and he learned his lesson… so maybe you could… talk to him… maybe…" Jane pauses, struggling to actually get the word to materialize.
"Out with it detective. I don't have all week" Maura snaps.
"Apologise?" Jane says finally. She rubs her hands waiting for the doctor's response.
Muara makes a noise that could be interpreted as a giggle but with much more sinister qualities. "I will do nothing of the sort," she says finally. She stands up and moves toward Jane.
"Sit down, detective," Maura asks calmly but it hardly seems like a request.
Jane slowly moves to sit in the chair across her desk. Maura walks past her to close her office door before returning to lean on her desk. Dressed in all-black scrubs and her hair up, she is just as much of a force to be reckoned with, if not more so.
"All I meant was-" Jane tries to help her case. Or whatever this is, though it feels like she's about to be expertly and gracefully told off..
"You meant that I should rescind my previous judgment on him? Implying I was wrong to inform him of his error?" Maura asks calmly.
"No. That's not what I meant," Jane says quickly
"No. I didn't think that was it either" Maura says with a narrowed gaze.
"It's just. People… Some people not everyone" Jane clarifies. "They think you're… um"
"A bitch?" Maura says finally, more irritated with Jane's delay than anything.
Jane just nods, glad she didn't actually have to say it though hearing Maura say it isn't something she would ever have thought she would hear.
"You were under the impression that I was unaware of this?" Maura asks, her brow furrowing in concentration.
"Well, I was… Until just now." Jane clears her throat nervously. Why am I like this around her? Jane asks herself. "It's just that maybe if you apologised or you know showed them you're… not like that all the time, maybe they wouldn't judge you as harshly… and talk behind your back," Jane says.
"What makes you think that I care about what they say behind my back?" Maura asks with an amused look
Doesn't everyone care what people think? Even a little bit, deep down? Jane has been the talk of the station in the past and even though she brushed it off and maintained her tough exterior, it did get to her. But Maura. She doesn't care. Truly doesn't give a second thought about the reputation she has among her peers.
A long moment of silence goes by. Jane looks up at Maura's face that's becoming riddled with impatience.
"I just don't know how to make them see differently if you don't also give them something other than what they've heard about you," Jane says bitterly. Too many times now she's been forced to listen to her co-workers talk about the doctor and defending her is starting to become harder and harder when they're not entirely wrong about her.
But they don't see the other side of her. They only see the tough exterior, the driven doctor. The cold doctor. Not the charming one that genuinely cares for the victims and their families.
Maura's eyebrow quirks up, intrigue on her face. "Do you care what they say about me?"
"Well… yeah. You don't?" Jane asks as though it were obvious. "Well I know you don't but. I don't know. You seemed pissed today. Forget I said anything" Jane says rising to her feet.
"Sit. Down" Maura says softly but firmly. Jane complies with a huff. This is becoming ridiculous. She's not my boss, Jane thinks to herself.
"Why do you care that I was cross? Or as you put it, 'pissed?'" Maura asks, her face is neutral once more.
Not this again. What is she getting at? Why does she ask me these things, is she an actual cyborg? Jane asks herself before answering.
"I don't care," Jane says unwaveringly. She's a great liar, even though she doesn't do it that often.
"Hmm." Maura hums in thought "Your first dishonest account with me" she says uncrossing her arms to place to her sides on the desk.
How did she do that? Jane asks herself in disbelief. "Ok. So I do care. So what?" Jane says as she gets up and walks toward the door. "I have work to do," Jane says over her shoulder against her better judgment.
"As do I," Maura says as she slowly rises off the edge of her desk. "And Jane" she calls after her before she opens the door.
Jane looks back at Maura, her hand on the door handle. "Don't ever lie to me again" Maura says with a stern look. Jane swallows inadvertently before giving her a small nod in agreement and opening the door to swiftly walk out.
Jane does her best to steady her breathing. Once inside the elevator, she covers her face with her hands and makes a grunting noise in frustration.
What the hell just happened? Why does she do that? Asking me all those questions. Thank god I grew a little backbone towards the end though, Jane tells herself.
The day comes to an end and Jane finishes the paperwork on the arrest earlier. Worth every minute she spent on the report, Jane feels. She glances at the clock. It's late. She gets her Jacket and holsters her gun.
In the elevator, her finger hovers over the lobby button. Even Maura would have gone home by now right? She asks herself. She sighs in frustration with herself before pushing the basement floor that the morgue is on.
It dings open in the quiet of the night and Jane walks hesitantly towards Maura's office. She sees the unmistakable illumination of light coming from Maura's office. She starts walking much softer on her tippy toes and peeks into her office, Maura is writing something, her brow furrowing in concentration.
She smiles a sly smile and turns to walk quietly back to the elevator. If the lab techs, bringing her results is 'bothersome' then Jane doesn't even wanna know what her presence must be like.
"Come in, Jane" a soft yet unmistakable voice comes from the brightly lit office. Jane makes a face before turning around and entering her office.
"How'd you know it was me?" Jane asks shyly.
"You have a distinctive walk I suppose. And no one else in the building would come to my office at this hour" Maura says as she closes her laptop. Jane hums in thought.
"What can I do for you detective? I haven't made any new discoveries regarding the case I'm afraid"
"Oh ok. Darn... Well, good night" Jane says before turning around awkwardly.
"Is that why you came down here, to ask about the case? Keep in mind our conversation earlier today" Maura reminds. As if Jane needed a reminder.
Jane turns around quietly. "No"
Maura purses her lips momentarily in thought. "Come here"
Jane hesitates but moves further into her office until she's in front of Maura's desk. She clasps her hands together to stop them from fidgeting.
"You're not here for the case." Maura sates. "Which means you must be here because of me. Is that a fair deduction?" she asks, her eyes wandering over Jane. Jane watches her eyes, she starts breathing a little heavier.
"Yes," Jane hears herself say. "I guess, I ended up here because I wanted to see if you were still here," Jane says, switching her weight. "You said you don't want to be friends but… I can't help it"
Maura furrows her brow in thought. "You feel drawn to me? Is that what you're saying, detective?"
Jane rubs her palms subconsciously. What am I doing? She asks herself. "Yes"
"I'm sorry to say that my position remains the same. I don't make friends" Maura says, twirling a pen on her desk playfully.
Jane's heart beats vigorously in her chest, she's sure Maura could hear it like she does, thumping in her ears as she ponders her next words. "What can I be to you if not friends? Because I can hardly focus at work. I think about you far too much and I don't see it going away anytime soon." Jane blurts out. Maura halts her movement with the pen.
Her neck and face start glowing with red. She clenches her eyes shut with embarrassment. Another part of her feels utter relief having told Maura this. Maybe it'll be awkward for a while after tonight but Jane feels like she could sore having finally said her peace.
That look is back. The one she gave Jane before she drove off. "I can offer… an arrangement," she says and watches Jane's eyes intently.
"An arrangement?" Jane asks.
"Yes. A form of release for you. We can't have you distracted at work, can we?"
"Ok. What. How does it work?" Jane asks, her voice cracking slightly.
Maura walks past Jane with a small smirk. She shuts the binds and closes the door. Even though they are the only ones there still.
Maura returns to her desk, her ass moving deliciously beneath her tight-fitting dress. "Kneel here," Muara says pointing to the space in front of her chair.
Jane's mouth opens slightly but not a single word makes it past her lips. She walks over and kneels in front of Maura. "This is in no way a romantic action. Understood?" Maura asks, towering over Jane.
Jane nods, her mouth is suddenly dry as she realizes what is likely about to happen. Maura slowly hikes up her dress to her waist "During orgasm the brain releases oxytocin among other chemicals which relieve stress." Maura says before hooking her thumbs into her black, silk panties.
"Increases blood flow by helping improve cardiac activity and numerous other health benefits." Jane doesn't even pretend that she heard anything after she started lifting her dress.
Maura remains standing in front of Jane with her sex exposed. She's completely smooth of any hair and Jane can't bring herself to look away. She's straight. She's never even looked at another woman's center this close before nevermind whatever she's about to do.
"I am confident that this is a solution for both of us. Think of this as a test… If you succeed we can go over ground rules and a formal contract later. If not…" Maura states as if she were going over the details of a case.
Jane has a million questions. Ground rules? Contract? Am I about to go down on the Chief Medical examiner of the commonwealth? Jane pushes all her thoughts aside since she'll need every bit of her focus to… Pass the test?
"Do I...? See I've never-" Jane starts.
"I am many things Jane, but a teacher is not one of them. Do what you think would feel pleasurable" Maura says before stepping over Jane's face.
Jane takes shaky hands up to place on Maura's hips. Maura didn't seem to mind. She could feel the heat leaving Maura's body on her face. She inhales and something happens. A switch of sorts was flipped and Jane knew she would never again live without this scent. It surpasses any coffee or aroma she has ever thought to smell amazing.
She sticks out her tongue and drags it through smooth pink folds. Gah that tastes amazing. Even though she's never tasted another woman's sex before, Jane is positive that Maura's is the most incredible thing she's tasted. Forget caffeine addiction, she thinks to herself.
She starts to slowly explore with her tongue. Sure to note any change in Maura's movements. She hasn't exactly made any encouraging noises thus far but some heavy breathing.
Jane dips her tongue inside Maura and she can't help it, the feeling is so empowering, she moans slightly into Maura. She could feel the vibrations of her doing on Maura's sex. She hears an unmistakable whimper that definitely wasn't her.
She looks up to find darkened hazel eyes looking down at her and it's nearly enough to make Jane come undone. Maura places her left hand on her desk to steady herself as Jane continues slowly dipping her tongue in and out of her.
Jane flattens her tongue over Maura's folds and another moan escapes her mouth as she notices a gush of moisture coming from Maura's core. Well, that's an encouraging sign for her upcoming grade if ever there was one, Jane thinks. A grin forms on her face, she can't help it. Maura is soaked.
"You're quite… pleased with yourself, aren't you Jane?" comes a voice from above. Did she feel me smirk? Jane asks herself.
Jane finds her throbbing bundle of nerves and circles it as a response. Maura gasps, Jane sees her knuckles whitening on the desk next to her. She circles it a few times, Maura's body stiffens a bit more with each movement around her clit.
Jane looks up but she can't see Maura's face. Against her better judgment, she backs away and leans further from Maura in search of her face. Jane sees just a glimpse of a red-faced doctor, head thrown back, eyes shut, her mouth slightly open. Maura jerks her head back to look at Jane.
"What are-" Maura's protests were short-lived as Jane quickly resumed her position and eased a finger inside Maura as well. "Ah god!" Maura cried out as she felt Jane's finger enter her. Jane couldn't help a smirk spreading across her cheeks.
Maura was breathing heavily and she was stiffening every moan she could with the exception of one or two as Jane increased her pace.
Jane felt her face become sticky with Maura's wetness. She added in a second finger and hears another unmistakable whimper. "Jane" Maura whispers. She almost dismisses it as a figment of her imagination when she hears it a little louder.
Maura is calling her name. Jane feels Maura's walls tightening around her fingers. Her body jerks and Maura grabs Jane's hair and holds her head in place, her nails digging into her scalp but Jane doesn't mind the pain.
A loud moan escapes Maura's throat before she calls out "Jane!... ah"
Her body relaxes finally, her head slumped over a bit. Her eyes are still closed. Jane removes her fingers and Maura's body jerks slightly at the sensitivity.
Jane sits back on her legs, it's not the best position for her knees granted. But it was very much worth the discomfort. Maura composes herself. Pulling down her dress and wiping the sweat from her face.
She hands Jane a kleenex. "Did I pass, doctor Isles?" Jane asks with a smile. It's not s smirk now. Far from it. It's a smile of absolute bliss. She cleans off her face and rises to her feet.
"Yes, detective. Indeed you have" Maura says still slightly breathless.
Let me know what you thought and what you think the contract may look like ;)
