Storm clouds rumbled ominously in the distance around Castle Acorn, the loud crack of lightning visible from the stained glass windows.

And within the large, cavernous, yet ruined dining hall in the centre of the castle, two Mobians were standing off.

Miles Prower grinned evilly as he approached the elderly, wheelchair bound form of the former ruler of the Kingdom Maximillian Acorn, purplish black energy crackling around his small, ebony black form while his scarlet red eyes stared into the old monarch's.

His footsteps were slow but light, each little footfall was extremely ominous, like he was the old Mobian's death slowly approaching.

Maximillian scoffed at the display, when any other Mobian would have been frozen in terror, the grey barrel of his handgun which had previously been used to kill the rebellious general of the Mobian Royal Army Amadeus Prower,

"Enough of these theatrics Prower!"

But the young Mobian didn't stop, he continued to approach Maximillian's old, withered form hatred and bloodlust burning in his eyes like a great roaring pyre, hungering for the former monarch's blood.

"What did it feel like old man?" He snarled at Max, he whispered in a low, voice barely above a whisper.

"To rip my family apart…to murder a loyal husband and a loving father?"

The fox's purple aura glowed ominously as Tails drew closer, Amethyst lightning crackled in his fists which had tightened in pure rage and heartbreak.

Maximillian, once again not understanding the sheer danger his life was in only pompously spoke,

"That…"Loving Father" was a traitor to the throne Prower! He met the fate he deserved, you just need to grow up!"

At those words, Tails stopped dead in his tracks, his eyes squeezing shut. His fists crackled with even more of this dark, malevolent energy.

Oh he didn't just go there! To murder his own father in cold blood and them treat him like a disobedient child and scold him for his heartbreak?! Tails had already given in to this…darker side of his personality but even that side couldn't suppress the awful feelings that bubbled up from that…awful sentence.

He began to shake violently… the deathly purple glow of his aura intensifying rapidly as a bit of the real Tails bubbled to the surface,

"Do you know what it's like?" he whispered, opening his eyes which were filled with tears.

"To lose someone so close to you? To feel your heart being ripped to shreds?"

The old Mobian however did not show any empathy towards the small boy and he only sneered at the 8 year old's plight, his pompous voice spoke again to Miles with irritation and arrogance clear in his voice,

"Enough! In time you will see your father the same way I do, as a filthy, disgusting traitor who got what he deserved. You should be thanking me boy!"

Tails snapped and in less than a blink of an eye, he span his namesakes behind him, propelling him forward towards the old man.

Maximillian didn't even have the time to react as he felt the collar of his blue, greatcoat be grasped and then suddenly he felt the very familiar feeling of being thrown through the air.

He collided with the cold, hard ground of the dining hall and grunted in pain, he slowly looked up to see Tails approaching him. Tears streaming down the 8 year old's cheeks while hatred burned in his scarlet red eyes.

He slowly tried to get to his feet but he then felt burning agony ripple across his chest as he was blown off of his feet by an incredibly powerful blast of dark energy.

Tails didn't even wait for the elderly man to hit the floor before he attacked, rushing forward at rapid speeds, he grabbed Maximillian's foot as he soared through the air and flipped him over his back with surprising strength for a boy of his age.

The old Mobian cried in pain as he felt his body slam through the wooden dining table, his body cracking through the old Oak wood of the table.

He looked up through his blurry vision to see the glowing purple aura of the boy standing above him. He needed to get out of here.

Feebly he turned on his back and began to slowly crawl away in a feeble attempt to save his life. But that only ended in Miles stepping on his hand, slowly crushing it while the old Mobian howled in agony.

"It hurts…doesn't it?" Tails growled to the former king, the air darkening around him.

"But don't worry…your majesty…" Tails growled, violently grabbing Maximillian's collar and lifting him into the air, his hate-filled, scarlet red eyes meeting with the former king's frightened ocean blue ones.

"It'll all be over soon…" Tails threw Maximillian to the ground with force, making sure that the former king could see the child that would take his life.

Tails could see his revenge grow ever closer and his ebony black namesakes swishing behind him with excitement, he pointed his closed fist at the former monarch, the amethyst lightning crackling intensified as it was pointed directly at Maximillian's old, withered face which was visibly terrified.

"Any last words?" he growled, his scarlet red eyes glaring down upon the former king.

But Maximillian was too terrified to speak, he didn't want to meet his end at the hands of this boy! He could only stare at the crackling, dark energy that would be sure to take his life in a matter of seconds.

"N-no…" Maximillian croaked, seeing his imminent demise flashing before him.

Tails growled, the dark, amethyst energy crackling even more in his balled up fist, tears pouring down his cheeks he let out a twisted grin and whispered,

"Goodbye…Maximillian!"

He felt the energy coursing through his veins and awaited to feel the satisfying sound of flesh being charred but instead he heard a familiar voice call out at him,

"Tails don't!"

His ears pricked up, and he lowered his fist, the purple, crackling energy dissipating almost instantly a he turned to see who had called him, it was the scared and yet sympathetic face of his Mother,

"Tails…don't do this… you're better than this!"

The young fox, looked at his Mother in shock! How could she say this? Especially after what HE did.

"Mum…he killed him…he doesn't deserve to live!" he exclaimed in a shaky voice, the tears still running down his cheeks.

"I know sweetheart. But we can't just kill him! That would make you no better than he is."

Tails turned back to see the terrified face of Maximillian staring up at him and his face hardened in anger, rage, heartbreak and disgust. He kicked at the elderly Mobian's face causing him to roar in pain as he felt his nose break with a loud sickening crack.

"Miles stop!" Rosemary exclaimed, she was already heartbroken at the death of her husband. She wouldn't be able to live with herself if she allowed her son to become a murderer.

"Please Tails…this isn't you…just come here."

Tails looked back to see the beaten, bloody face of Maximillian and then he turned back to see the concerned and distressed face of his mother.

His little heart began to beat faster, should he kill him? Should he not? He wanted to see Maximillian suffer for what he had done… but if he killed him…he would be no better than Eggman… what should he do?

His little body began to tremble, he felt pressured. Forced to make an impossible choice, he could once again feel the tears well up in his scarlet eyes.

"I-I…" he stuttered out…the glowing purple aura beginning to flicker as his own personal self doubt set in.

He then began to feel an intense aching in his little heart, as all of the dark energy rippled through his body, fuelled by the sheer emotional pain the little fox was in.

"I-it hurts…so much…" he whined, clutching at his chest, the aching in his heart intensifying dramatically, the baleful amethyst glow of his aura flickering even more. While more tears spilled from his scarlet red eyes.

Rosemary's face softened seeing her son in such a state and she allowed herself to slowly approach her son, gently holding out her arms to him,

"I know sweetheart…I know…" she whispered, gradually approaching her son until she was only a couple of feet away.

Tails looked her dead in the eye, his scarlet red eyes filled with tears of anger, frustration, defeat and heartbreak,

"But w-w-what about him?" he whimpered, pointing a clawed finger at Maximillian's shaking, terrified form. She allowed herself to cup his cheek and softly stroke it,

"He'll be tried and imprisoned Tails, I'll make sure of it. Now come here, I think we both need a hug…"

She gradually pulled her son into a tight, warm embrace and it didn't take long for her to feel her dress grow wet from her son's tears, all the while he bawled into her shoulder, the purple aura that surrounded his body slowly beginning to dissipate.

Rosemary allowed herself to smile just a tiny bit when she saw his fur colour slowly begin to lighten, the previously ebony black and iron grey coloured fur, brightening back to it's original golden yellow and snow white, while she could imagine that her son's eyes were returning back to the same sapphire blue she and Amadeus had.

Tails didn't have the energy to pull away from his mother's arms, he was too drained emotionally and physically to be able to do much, but he soon felt a second pair of arms wrap around him.

Sonic had only ever seen this darker side of Tails once, and the last time it had happened the damage he had caused was unprecedented and he had only survived due to the strain this form had taken on his body and emotions and the last time it had happened Tails was devastated once he had learned what happened.

His little brother was hurt, in both body and mind and thus needed someone to lean on, hence as soon as he saw the signs of change he immediately rushed over to comfort his little bro.

Tails couldn't stop sobbing however, the loss of his father and the weight of what he had almost done was overbearing, so he did the only thing he could which was sob and sob and sob… his heartbroken sobs echoing off of the dining hall's walls.
