Meet the Blue Scarecrow
(Ayla's POV)
*We walked for a while & then we came to a four way intersection. On one side of the road was a cornfield surrounded by a fence*
Ayla: Follow the yellow brick road. The yellow . . . Now which way do we go?
*Suddenly, I heard a very familiar voice*
?:*off-screen* I'd recommend that direction.
*My eyes went wide. That sounded just like my brother. I looked around & only saw a scarecrow that looked a lot like my brother. He was pointing towards the path in front of me*
Ayla: Who said that? *Muttski started barking at the scarecrow* Oh, Muttski, don't be silly. Scarecrows can't talk.
?:*off-screen* The other way is good too.
*I looked at the scarecrow & it was pointing in a different direction*
Ayla: Wasn't he pointing the other way?
?:*off-screen* Either way is good, just as long as you know where you're going.
*That time, I saw him point his arms in both directions*
Ayla: You - You did talk! *he shook his head & then nodded* Are you trying to confuse me on purpose or can't you make up your mind?
Scarecrow: I can't make up my mind 'cause I don't have one. *he pointed at his head* Nothing but straw in this noggin.
Ayla: Well if that's true, then how come you can talk?
Scarecrow: I don't know. But I guess people with no brains do a lot of talking.
Ayla: I guess that's true. *I stepped over the fence & went into the cornfield* I guess I should introduce myself then.
Scarecrow: You're right. I guess we both should. How do you do?
Ayla: Fine. How are you?
Scarecrow: Not very well, thank you. My back's been killing me because of this stupid pole I'm stuck on.
Ayla: Ouch. That doesn't sound comfortable. Can't you get down?
Scarecrow: Ha! If I could get down, don't you think I'd be on the ground by now?
Ayla: I guess you're right. Here let me help you down.
Scarecrow: Oh, thanks a bunch. Just bend the nail in the back and I should slid right off. *he fell off the pole & some of his straw fell out* Ah shoot, not again.
Ayla: Are you ok?
Scarecrow: Yeah. Just gotta stuff myself up again.
*He put the straw back in his chest & then stood up & stretched his arms above his head*
Scarecrow: Man, does it feel good to be free. *he then fell over backwards, over the fence & landing on the yellow brick road**laughing* Did I scare you?
Ayla: No. You just surprised me a little.
Scarecrow: Not even a little? *I shook my head* Aw man! *a crow landed on his shoulder* Shoo! Scram! Beat it! *the crow just picked a piece of straw from his chest & flew away* See? I can't even scare a crow. They come from miles around just to eat in my field and laugh in my face. If I had a brain, I'd scare those pests so badly they'd never come back here.
Ayla: Well, what would you do if you had one?
*Scarecrow singing*
I could while away the hours
Conferrin' with the flowers
Consultin' with the rain
And my head I'd be scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain
*He then stood up & walked towards the yellow brick road*
I'd unravel every riddle
For any individ'le
In trouble or in pain
*Ayla singing*
With the thoughts you'd be thinkin'
You could be another Lincoln
*Sonic Scarecrow singing*
If I only had a brain
Oh, I could tell you why
The ocean's near the shore
I could think of things
I'd never thunk before
And then I'd sit
And think some more
I would not be just a nuffin'
My head all full of stuffin'
My heart all full of pain . . .
*He started dancing, in a very clumsy way*
I would dance and be merry
Life would be a ding-a-derry
If I only had a brain
*He then fell down again*
Ayla: Wow! That was awesome! If the scarecrows back in Knotehole could do that, the crows would be scare to pieces.
Scarecrow: They would? *I nodded* Where's Knotehole?
Ayla: That's where I live. And I need to get back there as soon as possible, so Muttski and I are going to the Emerald City to get the Wizard of Oz to help us.
Scarecrow: Your going to see a Wizard? *I nodded again* Do you think if I went with you, this Wizard could give me some brains?
Ayla: Well, I'm not sure. But even if he didn't, you'd be no worse off than you are now.
Scarecrow: That's true.
Ayla: But I don't think you should. There's a Warlock out to get me and I don't want to get you in trouble.
Scarecrow: Warlock? Ha! Warlocks don't scare me. Nothing scares me!
Ayla:*in her mind* Oh good lord! He even acts just like Sonic! Come on, get it together, Ayla! He's not Sonic! He's not!
Scarecrow: Well, except a lighted match.
Ayla: That makes sense.
Scarecrow: But I'd face a whole box of those things if it means I get a brain. I promise I won't be any trouble. You won't even know I'm here.
Ayla: Sure I will. I could use the company. *Muttski barked* Company that answers back.
Scarecrow: Alright! *he jumped up back to his feet* To Oz?
Ayla: To Oz!
*Ayla & Scarecrow singing*
We're off to see the Wizard
The wonderful Wizard of Oz
We hear he is a whiz of a wiz'
If ever a wiz' there was
The Wizard of Oz is one because,
Because, because, because, because, because
Because of the wonderful things he does
We're off to see the Wizard
The wonderful Wizard of Oz
If I Only Had A Brain - Wizard of Oz
We're off to see the Wizard - Wizard of Oz
