Chapter 1
The glow of fireworks in the water brought warmth to the city of Soleanna. The Festival of the Sun was starting to wind down to its end but the people were still out in full celebration. The smells of pastries and cook meats flooded down the water ways as children ran about laughing and shouting about the fireworks.
Which brings us to the young girl standing in the shadows, overwhelmed with everything that had been bestowed onto her this very night.
"There's just...too much happening," she said, running a hand through her now short hair, her other hand having a vice grip on her companion's hand. She felt a squeeze back, as if being told she was okay. She looked down at the black hedgehog, who's crimson stripping over his body and quills looked to be painted on.
"You're fine," he told her, trying his best to reassure her that nothing was going to happen to her. At least not when he was around. Another loud bang and the girl winced. The hedgehog pulled her down to her knees, grabbing her shoulders with his hands. He sapphire blue eyes locked to his ruby reds.
"Maria, you're fine. I promise you nothing is going to happen, not when I'm with you. Got that?"
"Last time you said that Shadow, we were on the ARK," Maria answered back.
"Yeah but who pushed me into the only escape pod left," he argued back. Maria giggled as the both looked over towards the castle in the distance. They both could sense the energy that was coming from the building.
"It feels like it's in the basement, " she said, the hedgehog nodded in agreement. She looked back over at her companion.
"So plan is to break in, get the Emerald, and get out?" she asked. Shadow nodded.
"Alright. Let's get this show on the road then," she exclaimed, as the two of them started the trek towards the castle.

Elise, the princess of Soleanna, stood at one of the many windows of the castle, watching as the fireworks burst into the night sky. The bright colours entranced her longing of wanting to go out into the city and a normal girl and being among the common folk, not having them bow to her knowing that she was their next queen.
She heard a noise that sounded like it came from the basement. Did someone break in? Did the guards know? Her curiosity was getting the better of her, she decided to go check on what it was. She didn't want to be a queen that lived in fear. To heck with the guards. This would be her own adventure.

"Do you see it?" Maria asked. It was dark in the basement and her eyesight wasn't as keen as the Ultimate Lifeform. Her grandfather had designed the hedgehog to be perfect in every way.
"Almost," he grunted, digging through other such trinkets and gems that the royal family had obtained over the years.
"Got it!" he exclaimed, pulling out a bright white gem that would almost be mistaken for a diamond. He quickly walked over to Maria, placing the gem in her hands.
"You know for calling them the 'Chaos Emeralds', I haven't seen one that's green yet," she said as she examined the gem. The gem itself almost seemed to be alive as it pulsed it her hands.
The huge heavy door that was behind them swung open revealing the princess of Soleanna. The Ultimate Lifeform and the girl from the Space Colony ARK froze, all three staring at one another.
Busted.
"Who are you?!" the red hair girl demanded. She looked down to see Maria holding the Emerald, "And what are you doing that there gem?!"
"Oh...uhhh," Maria stammered out, trying to think of something quick but nothing coming out.
"You're stealing it aren't you?! You're thieves! Guards!" shouted Elise.
"I don't have time for this," Shadow said. He grabbed Maria, shoving her into him and touched the gem.
"Chaos Control!"
And within a flash of light, they were gone, leaving Elise alone in the basement.

Elsewhere among the stars in the vast emptiness of space there laid a ship of proud warriors Arcainians of the planet Arcaine. To the typical human, they could easily be mistaken as dark elves from stories but their blood thirst for destruction of taking control of other was unheard of to where it made anything that the echidna tribes had done in the past look like child's play. The warriors yelled and shouted as the crowned prince watched on from the viewing deck. His skin so dark that the grey royal garbs that he was wearing almost shone white. Dark maroon eyes gazing into the distance.
"What if we got it all wrong Umburn? What if the prophecy all for naught?"
His head turned toward the voice that was on the other side of him. Her grey skin almost making the white gown exceptionally bright. Her eyes deep blues and greens drop her gaze from the other and to her feet and he walked over to her, grabbing her face hard.
"And what would make you think the prophecy is a lie Onyxia?" Umburn scathed to the other, "Please, enlighten your big brother on what you don't believe here."
"There's nothing that spouts and proof," Onyxia retorted back, pushing her brother off her.
"Is he not proof enough?" Umburn hissed, pointing over to a screen where a silverish grey hedgehog lay in a prison cell unconscious.
"We don't even know if he can USE the powers of Chaos! All we know is he has psychokinesis and that's it," Onyxia yelled. Umburn strode back to her and slapped her across the face hard enough that she fell to the floor. She knew that she deserved it. She brought up her beliefs and that did not fit or sit well with her family at all. Their parents were the ones that had made her go on this voyage to make her believe in their cause.
"When the wielders of Chaos from past, future and present were to unite..." Umburn started reciting.
"...Then all of darkness will be turned into light." Onyxia finished with a sigh, "But it still doesn't explain anything about the past faltering though."
"It doesn't need to," Umburn growled, "And they call you my sister. Get out of my sight."
Onyxia sighed walking out of the room, rubbing her cheek from the slap. Tears rolling down causing it to sting

The sandy beaches of Wave Ocean glistened in the moonlight as a bright flash of light came and revealed the duo, falling face first into them.
"Oww," Maria groaned, spitting out sand from her mouth.
"Yeah not one of my better ones that's for sure," Shadow said getting up and dusting the sand off of him. He walked over and helped his dear friend up. The both started heading towards a small cave that was off in the distance.
"Home sweet cave," Maria mocked as she walked into the cave, throwing her backpack down and flopping onto the ground. She opened up the bag pulling out a sandwich that she had bought in the city earlier in the city and tried giving half to Shadow.
"You need it more than I do," He told her.
"You are using too much Chaos Energy," She retorted back at him, "You're not sleeping."
"We have Emeralds!"
"Just eat the bloody sandwich!"
"Fine!" he shouted, taking the half sandwich that was being offered to him and taking a bite out of it. Maria looked over at him as he chewed.
"It's good isn't it?" she asked the hedgehog who swallowed his bite. He glared at her and said nothing as he took another bite of the sandwich. Maria laughed in her victory before taking a bite out of her half. A buzz started to fill the air. Shadow pulled a small communicator out from his quills, which always left Maria wondering on how much stuff he could back there, and answered it.
"Week One check in! You guys are doing alri-are you eating?"
"Not by choice," muttered the hedgehog.
"Hey Rouge!" Maria yelled from the background.
"Well I'm glad to see you two are okay," Rouge sighed with relief, "Where are you right now?"
"A cave," Shadow said bluntly.
"Outside of Soleanna," Maria continued.
"Oh yeah," Rouge said eyeing the two up, "Heard there was a break in the castle. It's all over the news right now. They're saying GUN might have to go and take look on what happened. You two may not know what happened there...huh?"
Maria's face went white and looked down at the ground. Shadow remained unfazed.
"It was you two!" Rouge laughed. "Knuckles said it wasn't but I was sure it was. Did you at least get something good?"
"Yep!" Maria said happily pulling out the white Chaos Emerald from her bag and then put it back in. She looked over at the device.
"How's everyone doing?" She asked. Last that they saw...it wasn't great.
"Everyone's doing great sweetie. Tails is up on Angel Island with Knuckles for a few weeks."
"What about Sonic? Are they able to do something about his leg?"
"Of course he's doing fine," Rouge said, her right ear twitched, "He's gonna be out of the hospital in the next couple of weeks."
"That's a relief," Maria sighed happily.

Their chat went on longer than it should have but it was nice to hear about how things were going back in Station Square. Maria yawned pulling the blanket that was in her bag up as she use Shadow as her pillow. The crimson stained hedgehog hadn't said anything for while.
"What's up?" she asked.
"She's lying."
"Who's lying."
"Rouge's ears will twitch if she's lying," he told her.
"Why would Rouge lie to us?" Maria asked.
"Probably for you not worry," Shadow sighed looking down at the girl who was having trouble keeping her eyes open.
"Get some sleep," he told her, giving a rare smile. She murmured something that sounded like an 'okay' to him and was out like a light.
