Hey Sonic fandom! May I join you scallywags?
I was technically going to write a happy multi-chaptered Sonaze fanfic to celebrate me closing a painful chapter of my life but I hit a writer's block and decided to write some random springtime fluff for Sonic and Blaze to stretch my creative muscle.
I needed to write something springtime-related for my OTP before spring ends...Granted here in California it is hard to tell if it's spring or summer. If you ask any of us whether it's spring or summer in California right now the answer you will get is "yes!"
The title of this fanfic means "spring breeze" in Japanese. I am not sure why I thought of that title...It's also a small reference to Ojamajo Doremi since the main character is named Doremi Harukaze.
Anyway enough chit-chat, enjoy!
Disclaimer: Sonic the Hedgehog belongs to SEGA and Sonic Team. This is just a fanfic written by a fan.
Even if Blaze was the princess of sacred flames going through winter was always a journey. Even if this time she had Sonic to go through the winter cold. It was an eventful winter of snowball fights against ruffian robots and beautiful ice crystals.
Sonic did help Blaze see winter differently. And the nights were quiet with glittering snow and cuddling with Sonic near the magical flames.
Even the fastest thing alive had a weakness for snow. Blaze remembered how elated he was to hold the flame princess in his arms during the harsh winter evenings.
And after what felt like an endless winter, the ice started to melt, and trees turned emerald green. Even if Blaze was swapped with royal paperwork, she felt at ease with the gentle spring breeze coming through the balcony window. But it made her yearn for a certain blue hedgehog.
Sonic was busy going on adventures and making sure everyone in the kingdom was safe. She was busy doing boring princess things that the common folk don't know about.
Blaze diligently worked through the rest of the papers and kept herself level-headed so she wouldn't turn the papers into ashes. As quick as she went, she slapped down the last report on the desk and walked to the balcony.
The flame princess finally felt at ease looking at the clear blue skies meeting the green hills on the horizon. A faint scent of flowers brushed her nose, and she felt delighted.
Now that she was finished with monotonous princess duties, she wondered where Sonic was. But she needed to get out of the castle and be energized by nature, so she was sure she would run into him at one point.
But then she heard the sound of a gale at a distance. And before Blaze could respond, she felt a rush and then two arms hugging her from behind.
"Hey gorgeous!" Sonic said as he nuzzled her shoulder.
"S-Sonic!" Blaze cried.
Sonic grinned, and Blaze started to blush uncontrollably.
"You surprised me!" Blaze cried.
Sonic let her go and smiled even if Blaze gave him a slightly stern look with her hand on her hip.
"That was the idea!" Sonic said. He looked ahead at the horizon for a moment. "Sorry for leaving you alone. There was a little bit of trouble in the kingdom Tails, Cream, and Silver were there to help. We were almost overpowered!"
"Trouble?" Blaze gasped.
Sonic turned to her. "I'm sure one of the servants will tell you later. What matters is it's all been taken care of. You have dealt with enough royal paperwork already. You should relax Blaze." He gave her a warm smile. A smile as warm as flowers blooming in spring.
Blaze frowned. "I can't just be unaware of this."
Sonic placed his hands on her shoulders, catching her off guard. "And you can't just carry this entire kingdom on your back."
"I'm the hero. It's my job to save the day," Sonic said. "And the day has been saved, and we can spend time together now."
Blaze crossed her arms and smiled. "Alright then, I trust you Sonic. And spending time with you is always the highlight of my day."
But then Blaze turned to ponder. "I need to check in with the royal council though–"
"Say no more!" Sonic cried. Blaze turned to see him saluting her. "I am also the fastest messenger alive."
And before Blaze could object, Sonic speeded out of the private study in a flash of blue light. Blaze couldn't help but giggle as his vigor caused the furniture to shake and a few papers to fly around.
Sonic ran back to Blaze and beamed at her.
"All done! I said by royal decree that the princess must have time for fun after work. And the royal council found that hard to argue with."
Blaze smiled back at the blue hedgehog, but then she realized Sonic's speed caused the paperwork to fly out the balcony door. The papers flew in the breeze like birds being freed.
"Oh no! The paperwork!" Blaze cried.
"Oh no!" Sonic yelped. "I'll get them!" The blue hedgehog speeded off in another flash of blue light and caught some papers before they could fly off into the air. But Sonic quickly noticed a few papers flying off the balcony. He ran on top of the balcony railing and leaned forward to reach.
Blaze barely caught up with the blue blur as she saw him standing dangerously on the railing.
"Sonic! Be careful!" Blaze cried.
Sonic kept reaching and narrowly grabbed the papers, only for him to tip over and fall off the balcony.
"Whoa!" Sonic cried.
Blaze rushed and grabbed the balcony railing. "Sonic!"
When Blaze looked down, she saw Sonic landed safely on the grass, looking a bit dazed. But then, as he looked up, he smiled at the cat princess and showed her all the paperwork in his hand.
Blaze was so relieved that her smile lit up, and Sonic could see how beautiful she was. As beautiful as the tiny pink flower growing next to him was.
Sonic eventually picked himself up and ran back to Blaze's side in a flash.
"No harm done," he said.
Blaze was also flattered to see Sonic had a pink flower in his other hand that he charmingly presented to her.
Blaze smiled at him and took the papers. "Thank you, Sonic!"
But the two of them kept hold of the papers together as Blaze took them back to the desk and tied them with a blue ribbon and the pink flower. The spring breeze was certainly playful after all.
Or maybe that was Sonic just being the charming knight of the wind. And with him around, Blaze and her friends would have the most beautiful springtime.
And the wind would always be at her back, fanning her beautiful flame.
