Hello.
I hope everyone enjoyed the last chapter.
I enjoyed writing that one.
I hope you enjoy this one.
Oh.
Fun facts about Mao, for you all.
Kenos are naturally light (especially male Kenos), meaning that they can float, whenever their wings are in hiding. (So basically, they can float like Super Sonic and stuff like that, whenever they please.) Sometimes when a Keno is flustered, they'll start to lose control of how they float.
Kenos have pads on their fingers.
Warning(s): Angst, mentions of suicide,
Mao lay sprawled out on the grass breathing in the sweet scent of fresh air. Back in Bellum, there was no fresh air. Only the smell of fear, despair, and war. Mao closed his eyes, enjoying the scent of fresh air until a vanilla scent came into his nose. Fleetway. He thought. Fleetway was currently floating behind Mao eager to snatch off his mask. He reached for the strap, only for Mao to grab his hand, and launch him into the pond for the fifth time that hour.
Fleetway floated back up his target-like eyes filled with anger and disappointment and the occasional glint of playfulness. "Oh come on! I was so close this time! I even concealed my presence!" Mao giggled.
"Yes, but I could still smell you. You should hide your scent too." Fleetway groaned. "Fine! I'll try again!" Mao giggled once more. This was the one thing he loved using his strength for, playing with Fleetway.
"Okay, have fun!" He said as he continued to laze on the grass. Eventually, he fell into a light slumber, giving Fleetway the chance to attack. He swiftly flew over Mao, the mask, which was loosely put on solely for the purpose of the game, was snatched off successfully. Fleetway cheered. "Yes! I finally got the mask—"
He stopped when Mao was no longer in his spot. "Huh? Where'd he go—Ack-!" He found himself flying back into the pool by a powerful force and opened his eyes only to see Mao putting his mask on and being splashed by water from the impact of him flying into the pool. Dark growled. "Damn it Fleetway!
You got my book wet!" Fleetway turned to the navy hedgehog and stuck his tongue out childishly. "Good! All that reading will make your brain dead." Dark rolled his eyes. "Whatever." He said, flicking the water droplets off the cover of his book.
"Wanna play again?" Fleetway asked as he shook himself free of the water. "No, I'll pass this time," Mao said as he floated above the pond, playing in the water. "I'm tired. I'll take a little nap, and then maybe we'll play."
Sonic found himself in Mao's hospital room for the seventh time in the last two weeks. Knuckles stood across from him, attempting to heal the unconscious Keno. Eventually, he'd stopped. "Sorry Sonic, I can't get through to him, it's almost like he's preventing me from trying to help him." Sonic's eye ridge furrowed. "Why wouldn't he want the help? Is something wrong..?"
He asked himself in a low voice. "I could take him to the master emerald—"
"No!" Knuckles looked at him in surprise. "Sorry. Just— Just no. Please. He needs to stay somewhere cool.
I-I'm worried something will happen if he leaves the hospital." Sonic said, looking down to hide the tears streaming down his face. Knuckles frowned. "I'll.. I'll figure something out, but until then, you'll have to wait." Sonic nodded. Knuckles walked away, pausing at the doorway to turn to his friend, and then left with a frown. (I mean-
Besides his resting bitch face—) Sonic couldn't remember the last time he'd been so worried about someone. Apart from the time Tails disappeared for a few days, but it turns out Scourge found him and returned him home. Tails turned out to make a promise to the green hedgie not to mention him to Sonic. But after enough prying, he'd got him to tell him. He knew he might have a little crush on Mao, but could it be more than that? He shook the thought away as he wiped his tears.
He heard someone knock on the doorframe. He looked up to see Cream. She was holding a bouquet of flowers. "Mother and I picked some flowers for your friend when he wakes up." Sonic smiled at her. "I'm sure he'll love 'em," He said.
Cream put them on the table and then looked at Sonic. "Have you been crying Mr. Sonic?" She asked. Sonic tensed up as his quills raised slightly. "What? Pfft— No, heroes don't cry!
Some hospital dust got in my eyes. No wonder Mao's condition isn't getting any better." He muttered that last part. Cream sighed. She walked up to Sonic and simply hugged him. Sonic froze for a moment then he relaxed into the hug awkwardly. (he's not usually one to hug someone.)
"It's okay to cry Mr. Sonic. Nobody will be mad at you for showing how you feel." His eyes widened for a moment. Then he smiled. "Thanks, kiddo."
Scourge felt.. empty now that Mao wasn't calling or texting him now that he was in the hospital unconscious. Scourge sighed as he scrolled through his phone. He was hoping for something. Anything. Even a little sign that Mao was okay. Scourge's mind then went to the little moment they had in the park when they went on a walk. Scourge's face was scorching hot.
His ears flattened as he buried himself under the blankets. "Chaos, why did I have to think about that?" He asked himself as he curled up in a ball. His heart's pace quickened every time he even looked at the male. He'd never been so flustered around someone before. (Apart from Shadow of course.) He doesn't think he'll get over his crush on either of them anytime soon.
His ear twitched hearing his phone vibrate. He uncovered his face and reached for his phone. Once he grabbed it, he saw it was from a familiar number, but he couldn't remember who's. He answered it. "Hello?" He called out. "Scourge!
Hey buddy!" Sonic greeted in a cheerful tone. Some part of him was glad that he was back to his normal cheery self, but another part thought something was wrong. "Oh Sonic, hey. I still don't have your number saved on my phone, so I was hesitant to answer. Sorry. You need something?"
The next three words he heard over the phone, nearly gave him a stroke. "Sleep with me." Scourge's face reddened as he stumbled out of bed, choking on air. "I— W-what? Sonic are you alright? This is uh—
A little weird—" He stammered. Sonic laughed at his reaction. "Not like that! Unless you want to?" He asked in a mischievous tone. "Sonic!"
He yelled. Sonic laughed again. "No, but seriously though. I need you to come over." Scourge sighed. "Fine. I'll be over in a minute." Sonic cheered. "Great! Seeya soon!" He said. Scourge sighed as he slipped his socks on, then reached for his jacket.
Scourge found himself standing in the doorway of an empty room where he saw six chaos emeralds in a large circle, and candles, lit, and also in a circle with a golden ring in the center of both. "Sc-"
"Sonic what type of voodoo shit did you get me into?" He asked, cutting the blue hero off. "It's not 'voodoo', I'm trying to locate an area, more specifically, some people." Scourge sighed massaging his forehead. "And you couldn't have asked Shadow? He is a G.U.N. agent." He suggested, trying to escape whatever demon that had possessed Sonic into making a fucking ritual circle out of Chaos Emeralds.
Who the fuck has time to get Chaos emeralds? Well, Scourge, to answer your question, Sonic does. "You're right! I'll just call Shadow over here! And steal his emerald while I'm at it." He said, muttering the last part. Scourge groaned.
Chaos, why did he allow himself to be a part of this? Maybe he should move back to Brooklin. "He's on his way!" Scourge snapped out of his trance seeing Sonic looking him directly into his soul, making him yelp and shrink back. Sonic is definitely possessed. Just then, Shadow appeared in the hallway. "Sonic what do you want—"
Shadow paused mid insult as he saw the circle of Chaos emeralds. "I'm going back to Club Rouge. Whatever weird shit you're doing, leave me out of it," Shadow said. "Wha- Wait! I need your help!
That's why I called!" Shadow sighed and turned back to the desperate hedgie. "Fine. What is it you need help with?" Sonic grinned and grabbed both of of their arms and stopped a few feet away from the circle. Scourge tensed up. The last time he followed Sonic into his house and found a circle on the middle of the floor, he'd been trying to summon a ghost that'd taken over his body for a few weeks.
Thank Chaos Shadow was on a mission those few weeks. (I might make a special chapter for that lmao) Good thing Knuckles was taught how to exorcise someone without killing them. Though the whole ghost never left, he had supernatural powers now. Good thing only the Sonic household (Plus Knuckles) knows about the incident.
And that was a few weeks before they'd met Mao. He could see ghosts now. And let me tell you. It was traumatizing the first few days he'd learned there were over hundreds of ghosts in his house. He survived on coffee for two weeks. (Like— He literally drank coffee for two weeks straight.)
It's come down to the point that when they materialize (which was often, so they could take his food), he'll just spray them with a water bottle. (Imagine spraying ghosts with water bottles XD.) He shivered at the memory. "This won't have to involve me right?" Sonic just sent him a grin.
He groaned. "Why?" He whined. "Because we don't have supernatural powers. At— At least I think Shadow doesn't." He stammered trying to figure out if he was right.
Scourge rolled his eyes and crouched down, placing a hand over the ring, Shadow staring in curiosity. Suddenly, a soft glow came from Scourge's hand as strange markings on his quills glowed and then disappeared as quickly as they'd come. He stood up and turned to Sonic. "I'm done." He said. "Think of the place you wanna go, and then throw the ring into the air." Scourge briefly said as he stretched.
Man, he wished he hadn't pushed that 500-pound ghost off his couch before he left. He was drained. "Done!" Scourge and Shadow turned their attention to the portal Sonic was standing beside. Shadow was curious. Scourge felt his heart stop. The first thing he saw, were vines. Suddenly a memory flashed into his head.
(✨Angsty flashback time✨)
February 4th, (10 days before Scourge's birthday. I dunno when his birthday is, so I made up one XD)
2008, 5:14 pm.
14-year-old Scourge had been given permission to go explore the forest behind the house. He hadn't gone far, but the vines fascinated him. He hummed to himself softly as the leaves and twigs crunched under his shoes. It was a nice day out in the forest after it rained. The trees glistened beautifully in the sunlight. He always wondered what they'd felt like. So he reach out to touch one when suddenly he heard a panicked Chao.
Quickly, he sped in the direction of the distressed yelling. He wanted to be just like Sonic. A year younger than him, yes, but the guy was a hero! He wanted to be a hero one day. He skidded to a stop when seeing the Chao. It was just whining about its friend that wouldn't get down from the tree. He chuckled and started to climb the tree.
His Auntie always called him 'little monkey' because he loved to climb trees. He gently grabbed the Chao and jumped down. He sat the Chao on the ground, only for those two and multiple others to tackle him to the ground with hugs. He laughed and they snuggled into him. "Be careful of my quills! You'll get hurt!" He warned through laughs.
Though one did get poked, due to its pillowy soft body, it hadn't felt it. Eventually, the laughter died down as the Chaos let go, happily hugging one another. "Aw, little cuties. I gotta go, it's almost dinner time. Seeya soon!" He yelled running back into the forest. Luckily he knew his way around since he snuck out here quite a lot to avoid the other kids.
After making it halfway through the forest, he unluckily tripped over a vine that had grown too long that it reached the ground. He'd gone tumbling into a lake and luckily, held his breath in time. He almost swam up to the surface, only for a vine growing into the water to be wrapped around his throat by accident. He choked and kicked and struggled. It was moments until he realized, the vine was too thick for him to pull off. He desperately flailed around, hoping to get free of the vine somehow. If only by a miracle that the hero he looked up to, came to his rescue.
His eyes felt heavy, he couldn't hold his breath much longer, and he was stuck. Tears came to his eyes. Was this how he died? By a vine that he'd been too careless to let wrap around his throat? He was pathetic. Dying by a vine. And by accident too.
Goodbye, Auntie. Were his final thoughts before he lost consciousness. Luckily for him, the vine had been cut loose and he was freed of its grip. The blue hero looked worried for the boy. Good thing Tails taught him CPR.
Scourge shivered at the memory as dread filled his body. "Sorry Sonic, I'm gonna have to bail. I don't fuck around with vines. Something else, sure. But vines, no." Scourge said as he turned around and walked to the door. Sonic whined.
"But Scourge! Come on! It'll be boring without you!" Scourge sighed and turned around. "Look. Vines, are just not something I particularly like okay? I don't know what you expect."
Sonic huffed. "Why? Are you scared? Don't worry. They're sleeping. They're more active at night. Plus, they'll only feel threatened if you do something to harm them."
Scourge tensed up when he saw a vine move. Not by someone else. But it moved by itself. Nope. He's not risking death again. He suddenly saw that same vine suddenly fly towards him, he panicked as he ran out into the hallway, the vine latching onto his arm. He could feel it moving. Almost like it was breathing. Then he passed out.
Bonus:
Dark who was now far away from the pond looked at Super. "Why do I feel like we'll be getting a surprise today." Super shrugged, popping a berry into his mouth. "I dunno. Maybe you're right." Dark turned back to his book. "I'm always right." He said. "Sure,"
Angst, humor, and um- Comfort? I dunno man—
Hopefully, y'all enjoyed!
I've been getting chapters out a lot earlier than expected!
Bye!
