Chapter 10
The Gorillas pulled down their heads from the shock of the boom. Dust and small debris fell on top of them, as the whole building erupted with noise and vibrations. Both of them closed their eyes as they still tried to push back the sheer weight of the bulldozer, that stuck them tightly. But then suddenly, the motor stopped dead.
Confused, they were able to push it back with ease as they smashed the front with their huge fists. Now out in the clear, the primates looked around, trying to see anything from the heavy dust. They couldn't see hardly anything, nor find anyone moving. Coughing, the covered their mouths from the vast amount of dust.
"Are you alright bro?" The green armoured Gorilla questioned as he looked around.
"Yeah, I will be once I've squished that little pipsqueak." The red armoured gorilla hissed as he bashed his fists together in unison.
Suddenly both of them stopped in their tracks, as right in front of them, was the yellow hedgehog. He held a smile to his hand and waving towards them. Why was he just standing there? Was he mocking them? With fury, one of the primates stepped forward.
"You're not gonna get away this time!" He shouted as he set his weapon straight at Super Sonic.
Except, nothing was working. Confused, he tried again to shoot his blaster, but the weapon was dead. Looking down, he even tried hitting it, to see it make a spark of life. But the weapon was commissioned out? Did it brake during their fight?
"Here; I'll get him for you." His brother shouted as he raised his saw arm, ready to strike down with its ferocious blade.
Except, that wasn't working either. Annoyed, he tried to spin the blade on the ground, but nothing was working. The hedgehog continued to smile as the Gorillas tried desperately trying all their gizmos on their armours. Anger, was starting to change into fury. Then then, just like in unison, a ping dropped into their heads as they looked up above them.
"Hey brother. You think that blast was one of the bat's techno things?"
"Who cares? We may not have our weapons, but we still have our fists!" The red armoured primate shouted as he raced towards Super Sonic.
In a state of madness, he smashed down upon the yellow hedgehog. He yelled in delight as he landed a hit, but when he moved away, the hedgehog was gone. Did he move just in time? But then both Gorillas jumped as they saw Super Sonic high up on a metal pillar. But then turned to see another Super Sonic standing next to a crate. As the dust subsided, the Gorillas stood back in defence as more yellow hedgehogs came out of nowhere from the shadows. The smiles from before, somehow looked menacing as the red spiral eyes all focussed on the both of them, sending shivers down their spines.
"You got to be kidding me! Two is enough, now an ARMY?"
And what was worse, because their weapons were down, the heat sensor was no longer working. They had no clue which one was the real one. With only one choice to do, they both called out their war cry as they charged straight into the yellow crowd. But as they threw out their kicks and punches, not one them made a hit. They were even disgusted, that some of their arms and legs went straight right through the hedgehogs; not even making an inch of change.
The hedgehogs simply continued watching them. The Green armoured gorilla started to get scared as his fists went right through one of them and the hedgehog didn't even make budge an inch.
"Brother! He's a ghost!"
"Don't be stupid! This is simply a magic trick." His brother replied with disgust.
But then as he looked back, the hedgehogs started to run around them in a dash, forming a mini hurricane. Both Gorillas had to be forced to move in closer together. Frustrated of their disadvantage, their ears could detect something in the distance; something of heavy metal being dragged on the ground. What was that? Fed up with this little game, both brothers looked at each other and from behind their backs, fold their arms together. In unison, they lifted one hand each, while linked with the other. They spun around and using their open hand, threw themselves into the hurricane of yellow blur. Forming their own hurricane within one, the sheer force of both of them made the tides on their favour as their fists finally hit something. Suddenly the hurricane subsided as more hedgehogs disappeared.
To their delight it was working as the final hedgehog disappeared from their sight. They slowed down as they finally let each other go. But something was off, as it was dead quiet. Super Sonic wasn't to be seen at all. Didn't they hit the guy? But then they saw something in the distance. Taking no chances, both Gorillas went fists first; until a sudden yell shouted to both of them.
"You fools! It's me!" Omen shouted as he stepped back.
"Boss! When did you get here?" The primate asked, as he helped the rat get up.
"I was knocked out by that meddlesome hedgehog. Was trying to find you, until you tried to attack your manager!" The rat shouted back in annoyance as he brushed the dust off his clothes.
But it didn't make sense. If they did get Super Sonic in the end, then why did the hedgehogs all suddenly disappear? But then they heard something near by. The rat looked around his surroundings and through one tiny speck of moonlight coming from above, he glimpsed something big behind them as he turned around. A large shipping container which had been dragged on the ground.
Then a ping moment occurred and to his horror he only realised what had happened, until it was too late. From the distance the sound was getting to maximum point as he saw the feline raise both her arms with a golden glow. Next to him was the hedgehog. In that split second, he heard Ebony scream out "Now!" as he saw the demon creating a spin dash. In that second, her magic was combined with the spinning coil of the hedgehog as he started to glow. But then stopped as he focused on their small group. Before Omen and his comrades could counterattack, Ebony cried out; "GO!"
Super Sonic darted forward in a full spin attack. All three of them were not fast enough as they took the full impact. Omen's defence shell was shattered in seconds as all of them were thrown away from the sheer force, and thrown straight into the shipping container. The impact knocked the wind out of their lungs as they all collapsed together with a heavy thud. Dazed and confused, Omen could only spot one small figure looking right at them at the entrance of the container, before closing the lid on all of them…
Super Sonic had to move quick as he sped down to collect anything to hold that container lid sealed; even throwing nearby sand bags. Stepping back, he was certain it would take some time for them to break free.
It was a quick "on-the-spot" plan, but he was relieved it had worked. Using Ebony's "Copycat" spell on himself, would give Ebony plenty of time to muster some powerful spell that would knock their socks off. And enough time for Super Sonic to use his speed, to force the container to move. If he used his own strength, that would make things much faster, but the hedgehog had enough headaches for one day. He could still feel her magic radiating on his yellow fur; like a tingling sensation. But then his calm, started to form into panic.
Where was Ebony? When he found her in the warehouse, she looked exhausted. He didn't want to put her in more danger, but she insisted if it would win the fight. As he ran, he called out her name, till he suddenly stopped. Ebony was resting on the floor, not caring how mucked up she was. On her knees, she looked up at him and smiled, raising a thumb up towards him.
But just then, she looked up as she heard a commotion from above. More trapped debris and warehouse gear had suddenly been loosen and in an instant, fell down on top of her. Closing her eyes, she embraced herself for the hit. Then she heard her name from a distance and then whoosh! Her whole body was lifted in mid air as she heard the crash behind her. Slowly opening her eyes, she was in the arms of Super Sonic.
But instead of looking smug or cool, his face was full of worry and panic. Both of them looked exhausted, head to toe full of dust. He rested her back on the ground as he checked around her.
"Are you alright? You're not hurt are you?" he asked as he checked over her, looking at the minor cuts and newly formed bruises.
"I'm fine Super. Not like I'm used to a scruffle here and there." She joked. But she knew he was still worried for her as she was still trying to catch her breath.
Suddenly, both of them stopped as they heard sirens coming their way.
"Wait, when were the police called in?" The feline asked.
"I did and that's our cue to get the heck out of here!"
But before the feline could ask what he meant by that, she almost yelled out as the yellow hedgehog took her off her feet again and shouted to hold on. In one moment, the feline clutched onto him as he ran through the warehouse and jumped up. Looking up, their exit was the same as Rouge and Pyjamas. As they left the warehouse from the open window, it was a rush of adrenaline to feel the cold wind on their furs, making a refreshing chill.
They made their escape just in time as the first patrol cars pulled over…
In a very tight squeeze, Omen was left baffled and with a badly bruised ego. The two Gorillas were making the container especially difficult to move around as they were still out of action from the blast. The rat then suddenly looked towards the locked entrance and can hear commotion and the faint sounds of sirens.
Cursing, the Sorcerer made his quick decision then and there as he heard the latch opening up. Torchlights beamed straight toward the group; their weapons raised in their direction. From what light was provided, the leader held two long ears; a rabbit he presumed. Did the police have one of the freedom fighters this time?
Rising his hand up, he conjured one quick spell as he unleashed an explosion of purple smoke. As the police moved back from the attack, the rat jumped through the entrance and over them. He looked up and ran towards his exit from above; only missing the shots from below by inches. Reaching for the roof, he overheard the commotion down below as the police called for more reinforcements, the rat hearing more sirens coming his way.
It was now or never to make his escape. As for the Brothers? They were simply paid muscle and nothing more. The rat made his way to the quieter parts of the city when he finally took a moment to relax his muscles. He was still hurt from the battle and to his annoyance; the feline was getting stronger with her magic. He will certainly have to put extra hours in his training. Curse those coffee lovers he thought to himself.
As for the bat, oh, he had cruel intentions for that creature. But now was not the time, as he finally got his breath back. In one swoop, he jumped into the sky, plotting his next step for revenge….
Johnny was satisfied with the result as he watched the large two Gorillas being sent through a large police wagon. Chained up, they were bruised and battered as they were pushed into the large container. The rabbit looked around and with power only just returning to the area, they were able to get a full view of the wreckage that was inside the warehouse. Shaking his head, he knew this would only mean more paperwork for the force. The lieutenant approached the freedom fighter with a small device in his hand. He looked down at it and knew straight away, it was the same device used at the gallery. To many connections he thought.
It was time to make a phone call. As he pressed the dial, it took a minute for someone to pick up.
"So much for a quiet night in. I thought you were trying to keep out of trouble, not be in the middle of it." Johnny asked with a badly made joke.
"Believe me Johnny if I could, I wouldn't be. So did you get them?"
"Well, sadly one got away. We got the two Gorillas like you mentioned, but think the Sorcerer made a run for it. They've got a surveillance team searching for him, but I presume he's made a run for it. He'll be keeping quiet for a while that's for sure. What I don't get Super, how did you know they had the stone?"
"Oh, just a hint. Look I can't explain much right now; maybe over cake and coffee?"
"If you're paying for it, I'm game. Especially after all the Heath and Safety breaches at this place, it's going to take me a while. Have you got the stone?"
But then the connection was cut off. Looking at the device the call had abruptly ended. Oh well, most likely bad signal as some power still hadn't returned back. Crossing his arms towards the mess of the warehouse, he hoped the cake will be carrot and the coffee was a full pot…
The Black Cat held on tightly as the yellow hedgehog ran over the rooftops, until it was finally safe to slow down. Gently placing her down, the feline was delighted to see her friend Pyjamas waiting for her, completely unscathed.
"So glad you're safe" She spoke out as she hugged the Dog.
"Well you know me; always had a sense of adventure. Just not this whole kidnapping malarkey" The dog joked.
Meanwhile, Super Sonic was grabbing something from his quills frantically. Walking away, he was talking to someone on the phone.
"Do you have any idea how the police knew what was happening?" Ebony asked her friend.
"Apparently Rouge and Super asked Johnny for a favour; the huge blast was their cue to move in." The Dog explained to her.
But just as she looked towards the Bat, she was stood frozen. Confused, Pyjamas looked at her direction and stood still as well. Super noticed the sudden quietness and ended his phone call. The atmosphere went straight back into cold in an instant.
All three of them watched as Rouge pulled out a Gun from her bag and aimed it at the group. Ebony cursed, thinking she should have checked her bag, back at the office. Pyjamas was dead silent, Ebony raised her hands, ready to conjure up any spell on the spot. As for the hedgehog, he continued to watch and wait. Looking at Rouge, she also was battered and bruised from the brawl, looking just as exhausted as the rest of them.
"Time is up. I helped you guys out, now I want the Stone." She coldly stated.
But then all the women all turned to the hedgehog as he scratched his head looking guilty, giving a small wincing sound.
"Yeah…about that. Umm, there's one little tiny thing, I forgot to mention."
"Which is?" The bat demanded from him.
"That once the Stone is used, it disappears." He replied with a smile.
"This better not be a trick!" Rouge hissed with the weapon in her hand.
"No, he's right. It says back at the Gallery that the Stone always appears in different times out of nowhere. So, it's most likely gone somewhere else." The feline spoke up, rising her hands to the bat in defence.
"So where exactly?"
"That's it, we don't know. As for when? That's anyone guess." Super Sonic shrugged.
With the gun still at their faces, the Bat looked at her situation. Now thinking this whole thing was pointless, Rouge put the gun down as she sighed, shoving it back in her bag. Besides, would have taken a split of a second for the hedgehog to snatch it out of her hands, no doubt. That's if, it even had any bullets in it; Rouge was after all a thief, not a murderer.
"Well, that's it. Game over for me I guess. Well, better make my way. Thanks for saving me back there hedgehog, will have to repay the favour another time." She gave a weak smile as she made her way off the roof.
"Wait!" Pyjamas cried out to her.
The Bat watched as Pyjamas walked towards her.
"What will you do? You know what they will do to do if you come back empty handed? You simply can't walk to whatever doom awaits you!"
"Then what do you expect me to do? Run away? Go into hiding? Nah, that's not the way I live sweetheart" She replied with a smile.
"Then let us help you, we have a tendency of doing that around this neighbourhood." Ebony smiled to them both, with the hedgehog folded his arms nodding in agreement.
Strangely as Rouge looked at the odd trio, something stirred within her. A small warmth feeling of comfort and trust started to form. In literally one day, these three have shown nothing more but kindness; heck even saved her life and tended her wounds. Raising her hand to her wing, she would have been in a lot worse place if it hadn't been for their help. Taking a deep breath, she felt some of the shield she held to her chest slightly ease off, letting a small gap of trust to reach out. But gosh! Why did it have to be such a hindrance?
"And what do you suggest?" The Bat asked with a smile back…
