~Chapter 1: Being a Hero~

It was nighttime in Seattle, an old woman was pushing a shopping cart with her pet dog in it. She looked down for a second to her dog before noticing a high speed chase with a stolen truck being chased by theSeattle Police Department.

"They're still on us!", said one of the Bank robbers as his fellow bank robber threw him a stick of dynamite which he tapped the top of to ignite it. "This'll slow them down!", he said as he threw the dynamite at one of the police cars which drove around the explosion, causing the police car to hit a group of trash cans.

The cars proceeded to drive past a building, of from where Sonic was watching the whole ordeal. Sonic proceeded to tighten his shoes, do some stretches, jump in place and readying his chaos energy, crack his knuckles, do some air punches, and eat achili dog, before leaping off the building and swiftly following the chase, passing several other cars.

"Watch out! 'Cuse me! Pardon me! Coming through!", Sonic said as he sped up to the side window of the truck and kicked the driver while holding to the railing on the roof of the truck. "Good evening, gentlemen. Mind if I drive?", he said as he kicked at the driver making the door on his side open up with him clinging onto it.

Sonic then took the wheel, "Better buckle up!", he said.Sonic made a right turn, making the bank robbers in the back hit one another from the movement. The Seattle Police Department continued the chase as sticks of dynamite fell out of the truck and exploded upon hitting the ground.

"How we doing back there?", asked Sonic as he turned one way, making the bank robbers hit one wall in the truck, "And now this way!"

Sonic proceeded to make another turn, making the bank robbers hit the other wall whilst all the money they stole flew out of the truck. Sonic laughed as the chase continued, "Woo-hoo!", he shouted. The hostage in the back of the truck looked at Sonic, mumbling due to his mouth being covered with duct tape.

"Oh I'm sorry, I don't speak duct tape", said Sonic as he removed the duct tape, allowing the hostage to speak.

"What the heck are you?!", he shouted.

"Fear not citizen. I am the hero you need and the hero you deserve. the blue dawn that banishes the darkest-- Holy crap!", Sonic shouted as he quickly spotted a pedestrian on the road and proceeded to scream with the hostage as he took the wheel and drove around her.

The hostage continued to scream. "Don't worry! Nobody's gonna get hurt!", said Sonic. The chase continued as the bag of dynamite had slid right next to Sonic.

"Huh. What are those?", he asked.

"Bombs! Bombs! They're bombs! Those are bombs!", shouted the hostage.

"Relax, they're not even lit! so I'll say again, nobody's gonna get--", Sonic was cut off when the dynamite sticks suddenly turned on as their fuses ignited, "Ahh! I was wrong! We're all gonna die!"

"Why aren't you slowing down?!", screamed the hostage.

"That would require brakes", said Sonic as he tried pressing on the breaks to no avail as they were blocked by the body of one of the unconscious bank robbers. Sonic took the bag of dynamite with his foot and picked it up with his hand.

"Ahh, ohh. Hot hot hot hot hot!", Sonic wailed.

"Why don't you just let the police handle this?!", shouted the hostage.

"Because that's not what heroes do!", replied Sonic. He threw all the dynamite sticks out the window. They all fell into a random garbage truck before they exploded, scattering its trash everywhere. "Thank you very much! Please hold your applause!", Sonic declared.

Trash fell on the windshield of the truck as the chase continued, the hostage heard a hissing. "Hey, ya hear that? There's one bomb left!", he shouted.

"Uh... uh oh", said Sonic as he zoomed toward the truck's small cubby and proceeded to look under for the bomb.

"Did you check under the seat?", asked the hostage.

"Of course I checked under the seat!", replied Sonic.

"You are terrible at this!", the hostage shouted.

Sonic latched onto the wire on the door separating him and the hostage, "You know what? Your negative attitude is not helping anyone!", he said indignantly.

The hostage then noticed a sizzling in Sonic's head quills, "It's in your spiky things!", he shouted.

Sonic spun around rapidly before getting the dynamite stick out and held it up, "Aha! I can never find anything in here!", he said as he threw the dynamite stick out the window. The dynamite stick rolled away, before falling into a drainage pipe on the side of the sidewalk.

"Drained it from downtown!", Sonic said imitating triumphant trumpet music before retaking the wheel, "See? I told you no one would get hurt!"

He then looked up to see that they are headed straight for an ice cream stand, "Holy sherbet!", Sonic shouted as he looked around and looked to a bag of power tools.

"Oh hello!"

Sonic zoomed towards the power tools and appeared then on the roof of the truck, holding a drill in his hand. "Don't panic! This is only a drill!", he said as he proceeded to use the drill to remove the screws on the roof before zooming all over the truck, removing all its screws and bolts.

Everyone at the ice cream stand looked to see the incoming truck and shrieked before the truck started falling apart as it headed right toward them, leaving only the undercarriage, the hostage and the unconscious bank robbers, to slide to a halt in front of the ice cream stand.

The hostage looked to a boy behind him, shocked as a scoop on his ice cream fell off and plopped to the ground. Meanwhile, the dynamite stick from earlier exploded, causing all the drainage caps on the street to explode and reveal geysers of water bursting out of them all to the 1812 Overture.

The bank robbers regained consciousness, just as the Seattle Police Department arrived at the scene to arrest them. The hostage looked to see Sonic on top of a building.

"No need to thank me, citizens. All in a night's work for...", he paused as he did a superhero pose, "Blue Justice!"

"You're a terrible hero!", shouted the hostage.

Sonic laughed as he ran down the building and through the ruined streets.

The sun rose over a mountain as Sonic raced across a large bridge, heading back to Green Hills.Wadewas in a police car, holding a speed watch as Sonic zoomed past.

"Morning Wade!"

"Morning Sonic!"

Sonic zoomed past Wade and raced up a mountain and stopped at a small rocky ledge overlooking Green Hills, "Good morning, Green Hills!", he shouted happily as he raced down the mountain and ran toward the Wachowski house.

He raced up the roof and stopped, he looked through the window before slowly entering his room, back-flipping in the process. The impact almost tipped a bowling pin off a table, but Sonic grabbed it before it hit the ground. He then slowly placed it on the floor, not making any noise, and tiptoed to his bed.

Each step he took made an inconvenient squeaky floor board sound, making him stop. "Ah, come on!", he whispered as he grabbed something off the bottom of his shoe and saw that it is a few dirty banknotes.

"Uh oh", he whispered as he frantically looked around, eyeing his cupboard with a "keep out" sticker on it. Sonic opened it up and placed the banknotes in it. He then got out his bag ofRingsand closed it up, he got out the world map and opened it up, only for a feather to slide out.

Sonic gasped as the feather gently floated to the floor and picked it up, remembering that the feather belonged toLongclaw. He then had a flashback as he remembered when he was little and gave a flower to her before being sent to Earth, her voice saying his name as an echo.

"I miss you, Longclaw. I'm trying to make you proud", said Sonic as he put the feather back on the map and closed it up before putting it back in his pouch, zipping it up. He then placed the pouch on the desk top before getting in bed.

Just before Sonic could curl up and sleep, his cellphone buzzed. He grabbed it and saw that he had gotten a text message from his older, adopted human sister, Penelope. It was then that he remembered it had been a whole year since she went to Massachusetts, staying with Wade's relatives while going to college.

Hey! Having breakfast, and just saw your little crime bust on the news last night! Nice job...Blue Justice! ; )...also, I miss you! :'(

Sonic smiled before replying "Miss you too, Sis", and curling up under the blanket. "Now for a little shut eye", he said. Just as Sonic was about to fall asleep,Ozziecame up to him and licked his face, waking him back up. "Ugh! Blegh! Ozzie, morning breath!", he said as he covered himself in his bed covers.

Just then,Maddiecame in with a hamper of laundry. "Sonic! You're still in bed? You're supposed to meetTomremember?", she said. Ozzie yanked the covers off an exhausted Sonic, as he flopped face first to the floor.

"Alright! Alright, I'm up! I'm up...", he groaned.

About an hour later, Sonic and Tom were in a rowboat in the middle of a lake, fishing.

"Ahh, what a day. Thanks for coming out bud. You know, I feel like you and me, we haven't had much time together lately", said Tom. He didn't hear anything from Sonic, "How's it going over there? Did you get any bites?", he asked.

Sonic still hadn't answered him, it was then revealed that he was asleep, a bit of drool coming out of his mouth. Tom bent over, rocking the boat and making Sonic fall into the water. "Ahh! I can't swim! If I die, don't look in my closet!", he shouted. Tom bent over and fished him out, he then proceeded to get a blanket and wrapped it around Sonic.

"Hey, hey. You're good! Take it easy. But, now that you've had a nap and a bath...I went up to your room last night to bring you some new comics and um...", Tom trailed off.

He remembered finding a statue of what looked to be Sonic reading a newspaper upside down. Tom came closer, but his foot touched a rope in front of him, making the Sonic statue wave his hand up and down while a radio recording played in the background in Sonic's voice.

"Woah, woah, woah, woah, stop right there! I wouldn't come any closer because this little hedgehog had way too many chili dogs. Oh no, oh no!", said the voice over.

It had repeated itself over and over, Tom looked unimpressed as the Sonic statue had fallen apart with the radio recording, distorting it in the process.

"Ugh. I knew I should have used real farts", Sonic muttered.

Tom slapped a newspaper in between them with the headline reading "The Daily Observer: Mayhem in Seattle".

"How many times are we gonna do this?", asked Tom.

"What? Cast your line and not catch anything? Seems like a billion", Sonic said playing dumb.

"I think you know what I'm talking about. Lying, the sneaking out, pretending to be Batman--"

"Blue Justice, trademark pending", Sonic said cutting Tom off.

"Whatever, your being reckless", said Tom.

Sonic groaned, "Ugh. Not this conversation again!"

"Hey! its no fun for me either but if you keep being irresponsible, we're gonna keep having this conversation", said Tom.

"How is it irresponsible to use my power?"

Tom held up the newspaper paper, "You destroyed an entire city block!", he said.

"The block was already messed up! Who cares? Look, I stopped a robbery! I was a hero!", Sonic argued.

"No, you put people in danger and that's NOT what a hero does", Tom argued back.

Sonic looked upset at the comment as he stood up abruptly, "You're supposed to be my friend. Stop trying to be my Dad!", he said. Tom sighed and looked away for a second as Sonic sat down.

"I can take care of myself", said Sonic.

"Sonic, taking care of yourself, is not what being a hero is all about. Its about taking responsibility for other people. And now, whether you wanna hear this or not, you are still just a kid. You got some more growing up to do before your ready to be a hero. Trust me, there will come a time when your powers will be needed. But you don't choose that moment. That moment chooses you", said Tom.

"Woah. Look at you. Look, I just got-- I just got goosebumps. Wait a second, did you steal that from Oprah?", said Sonic.

"No sir, its a Wachowski family special. Came from my dad, in this very boat, in this very lake. He would always try and steer me in the right direction. That's what Maddie and I always try to do with you. So, until your moment arrives, I want you to work on being more responsible. Comprende?", explained Tom.

"Comprende. High five on it!", said Sonic as he and Tom proceeded to high five, "Yeah! Doughnut Lord and the Blue Blur are back at it again!"

Sonic then zoomed to the rear of the boat, dunking his whole bottom half into the water. "Speedboat!", he shouted as he proceeded to run in the water, pushing the boat along.
