Poppy Valley Zone
It was an average day on Eart-well, Mobi-I mean, Freedo- Sonic's World. It was average in that Sonic the hedgehog was running around Wayside Island defeating Badniks. He hadn't seen Robotnik anywhere, but the mad doctor was bound to show up sooner or later. It was practically a given. The blue speedster performed a Spin Attack on a mockingbird-based robot with bladed wings, releasing the animal inside, before dodging attacks from what looked like a stag beetle with a turret on its back.
"Huh, these are new," remarked Sonic. "I guess Eggman's been busy."
Along the way, the blue hedgehog also encountered what looked like a hamster that moved on tracked wheels, which just looked goofy to him. As Sonic made his way through the Zone, he eventually came across Tails. His fox friend was being confronted by a giant mech that resembled a sumo wrestler. Sonic and Tails had never seen it before, but the mustachioed face confirmed for them that it was made by Robotnik.
"Stand back, Tails, I got this," assured Sonic, before attacking the Sumo-bot.
What followed was a pretty easy fight (it is the first one of the game, after all) that mostly involved hitting the mech's head and legs; it wasn't too impressive, and the only reason anyone talks about it afterwards is because the boss looks unique.
"Just checking, that was something new, right, Tails?"
"Yeah, it does. But anyway, you'll never guess what Robotnik's planning!"
"Is he trying to find the pieces of the Death Egg so he can use them for a new project?"
"Uh… yes. But he's got search parties across the island, you better stop him from collecting those remains."
River Blue Zone
As Sonic ran through the Zone, he had to watch where he stepped; one wrong move and the ground would give way and drop him into the river. He once again found new Badniks here, this time what looked like sharks with legs.
"Yowzer, those are a lot of teeth," he commented as he dealt with them, releasing the various aquatic animals powering the robots.
The second was much more unique, what appeared to be a fighter jet based on a fish. It'd pop out of the water, charge at Sonic, then dive back in. It was creative, but it kept throwing Sonic off focus at inconvenient times, so this is probably gonna be the only time you ever see it-and for good reason.
He then came across the Zone's final boss, a giant cephalopod-looking thing that would hover down and try to grab him, so he'd smash one of its tentacles until they'd all been destroyed. It actually looked really cool, and its inventiveness would be fondly remembered, but it was defeated all the same.
"Sorry, Octotron, but I've got places to be," remarked Sonic, speeding away.
What Sonic didn't know was that this robot was actually called "River Blue Zone Boss" in official documents; but by calling it Octotron, the burgeoning internet fandom took this to be the name and eventually Sega would retroactively confirm that it's name was Octotron (and if that sounds too unbelievable, look at the Darksyde from Beast Wars and the United Rebel Front from Halo).
Oh yeah, and he also secured the Death Egg fragments. Don't ask where he's keeping them.
Giggle Park Zone
Sonic's journey to find the Death Egg fragments had taken him to many exotic locales, and in each of them he'd found some new group of robots.
Lush Jungle Zone had gorillas with rocket launchers on their backs and mosquitos with VTOL jets, Abandoned Mansion Zone had hovering robots that looked like ghosts (and a shiny white variant that offered an extra life when defeated), and No Fly Zone Zone had fruit flies with eye lasers and fighter jets based off a ram's head.
Sonic would be very disappointed if they weren't called "Ramjets."
But anyway, here he was now, where the last fragments of the Death Egg were located. This time, his opponents were bipedal models that resembled clowns and jesters, as well as ceiling-mounted turrets that resembled water squirting flowers.
When Robotnik picked a theme, he stuck to it to the very end.
Speaking of the doctor, Sonic found him inside a (surprise, surprise) new mech, which looked like a clown.
"Hohohohoho! You're too late, Sonic!" he jeered. "You may have found pieces of the Death Egg, but all the important components are safe inside my brand new Egg Fool!"
"The only Egg Fool I see here is you," retorted Sonic.
"Mock me if you may, but-"
"No, I'm not finished. You churn out all these brand new models every single time we meet, you use them once, and then you never use them again. What's up with that?"
"That's not true! I still use Metal Sonic, don't I?"
"Yeah, but he's one robot. Listen, I know you're all about polluting the environment and all that junk, but this just seems wasteful and ridiculous. What, do you have a book full of insects and other animals you take all your ideas from?"
"N-No," stammered Robotnik, making sure his most recent edition of "Encyclopedia of Insects and Other Animals to Take All Your Ideas From" was hidden from view. "Besides, I don't need your approval on anything. Why should I care what you have to say?"
"Your strategy of pumping out new stuff all the time sucks, Eggman."
"…Fine. I'll put an order in for some Eggrobos. But just you wait, Sonic! When I come back I won't just be bringing you my 'Best Of' showcase, but also my 'Worst Of' showcase! And then my 'Somewhere In-between Of' showcase! You'll rue the day you asked Doctor Ivo Robotnik to stop making new stuff!"
"Whatever, I'm gonna defeat you now."
And he did.
Sonic's Beachside Abode Zone
Sonic reclined in the sand, at peace with having stopped another of Robotnik's plans. As Tails tinkered away with the Tornado, their momentary peace was interrupted by the arrival of Amy, out of breath as she found them.
"Sonic, Tails, Robotnik's taken over Little Planet a second time!" she panted.
This caught the blue hedgehog's attention. "For real?"
"Yes, and he's even sending robots to Angel Island so he can steal the…"
He didn't hear the rest of her sentence, as swarms of old Badniks descended from the skies. Sonic sighed; he knew now to be careful what he wished for.
Or something.
And here we are, at the start of a new series. This is a very light-hearted, not serious tale, sort of like Sonic Mania Adventures and the 30th Anniversary comic. Don't expect frequent updates for this one, I'll post a new chapter when I have inspiration for one.
In the meantime, check out my other works, and I'll see ya next time.
