Sonic's green eyes greened over the greenery. Splash Hill strikingly reminded him of his early adventures in a completely fresh, authentic and equally compelling way. Classic Sonic stood beside Modern and nostalgiad. His presence added a sweet blend from the aromas of the past while still maintaining an intrinsic connection to the environment and setting without any hint of hasty addition.
The brilliant sunset captured the moment perfectly. After a blissful month on the Lost Hex, it was nearly time for them to depart, but Sonic clung to the memories. At the base of the hill, Princess Elise watched the two hedgehogs. The honeymoon was the longest period of unbroken time she had been able to spend with her two husbands. The entire ordeal felt like a tale from a storybook equal in majesty, scope, and romance as the Arabian Nights or the Arthurian Legends.
Modern Sonic turned to smile at his wife. The werehog within him purred to see her in the golden hue of the sunset. Her beauty combined with the setting reminded him of their time together on the Windows XP background As he watched, he noticed the first tear stream down her smooth cheek. The two Sonic's approached her gently. "What's wrong?" Modern asked.
"I don't want our time to be over. I know you two must return to face your greatest rivals, Infinite and Zavok but I don't want this time together to fade," Elise wept and Modern knelt to lift her chin.
"Just smile."
His 2d counterpart stared unblinkingly at the two of them. "Gotta Juice."
On a high hill far distant from the two Sonics and Elise, Shadow looked down the scope of his military grade Barrett fifty caliber sniper rifle. His crosshairs lingered on Classic's plain, expressionless face. He appeared jarringly out of place and distorted in a 3d environment. Shadow's trigger discipline was second to none so he kept it primed onto the side of the gun. Despite his dark, guarded exterior his inner heart of vulnerability resisted the kill order he had been given. This inner conflict caused Shadow to turn aside and whisper something edgy to himself. He cocked the barrel of his sniper like a shotgun, as all his weapons were conveniently loaded in that manner.
Shadow was complicated, even combined, the two Sonics did not have half as many dimensions as he did. He was the perfect toxic person.
On another hill, Tails watched the three love birds enjoying the sunset. Though Tails had maintained his character arc after defeating Dr. Eggman in Station Square and had not slipped back into cowardice combined with the addition of being an insufferable know-it-all, somehow Modern still preferred to hang out with his inter dimensional Classic version, not to be confused with Sonic from the past, because Classic is from another dimension and not the past, obviously.
A threat loomed over everyone but its name was budgeted away since it was to be tossed aside when Dr. Eggman revealed himself to be the final boss. Despite his mental state clearly cascading in recent years somehow the doctor manages to create something that Sonic can absolutely not defeat. Friends in hand, Sonic defeats Eggman and saves the day while making very funny jokes.
When asked, Knuckles scratches his head and says something that drives home how stupid he has become. He has absolutely no idea what a Master Emerald is.
AN: April Fools!
After a further review of the site's rating policy I've decided to up the rating of the story from K+ to M. I do not intend to change the tone or alter any of the story outlines that are upcoming. My intent was to strike a balance between the tone of the adventure series/06/Shadow. I apologize to anyone who may have been negatively affected by the miss rating to this point. (Not that anyone has reported anything, I just think I did not read the ratings closely enough)
Chapter 20 will be released in two parts. Part One will come out 4/2
