Chapter 4: New Chances

When they landed in the hangar of the Sky Patrol, Sonic and Rotor ran over to them, followed by a limbing Antoine and Froggy.

Sally climbed out of the Speedstar and stretched herself when Sonic stopped in front of her. " Glad you guys are back, we wanted to left now to search for you! Where have you been?" Bunnie pats his shoulder. " In the wastelands, badniks, bad guys, lava, the usual stuff shuga-hog! And, we got two new members for the team and a scientist!" Sally nodded when Sneak left the Speedstar. " Both are a great help!" Sonic looks over to Rotor who shrugs, and the blue hedgehog sighs. " Missed the whole action what? Oh boy, but it´s good that you're all back!"

Antoine wrapped his arms around Bunnie and kissed her passionately. " Cherie, I was so worried! You have to tell me what happened, tout de suite! Maybe with a cup of tea?" She winks. " Good idea Shuga-Twan! And beside yah can massage mah shoulder, was rough out there!"

Sneak raises her hand and greets everyone. " Sneak the Bilby, nice to meet you guys!" She looks at Sonic. " so, you are the famous Sonic?" He nodes, Sneak grins. " You´re shorter than me, huh?" Sonic frowns. " Hey, that´s no nice first greeting!" Amy passes him, her look goes from Sneak to Sonic, then the pink hedgehog giggles. " But it´s true, even with her ears lying on the side!" Even Sally and Nicole giggled.

Froggy jumps on Big´s shoulder, the cat fondles his friend the head. " You missed me?" " Ribbit!" That was the only answer he gets.

The Tornado landed beside the group. Perky giggles when she and the fox climbed out of the plane. She waves. " Hi, I´m Perky, Perky the Wallaby!"

Then she links her arms with Tails´ and smiles flirty. " And here you work on your inventions? WOW!" Tails smile a bit embarrassed. " Well, no, I have my board workshop!" " You must show me that place!" Perky giggles. " Only you and me, alone!" Tails blushed and looks over to Sonic, who frowns but then a big grin appears on his face. He turns to Sally. " I´m excited to hear that story, Sal!"

She nodded and yawned. " Later, first I need a shower and most importantly, getting of that boots! Was a long day!" " Shower is the word of the day!" Amy winks to Sonic. " You can make some tea while we ladies freshing up, then we tell you our story!" Then she walks out of the hangar.

Sally waves to Sneak and Perky and walks over to Rotor. " Hey, we have a free room right?" The walrus nodded. " Yup, directly beside mine, I must only activate the fuse and look at the water pipes." He gave the two new members an apologizing look. " The water stood a while in the pipes, some pillows and blankets we have for you!" Perky pats the belt of her backpack. " I have my blanket here." Sneak noded. " Me too!" Sally points to Walker, who left the Speedstar as last. " That´s Sneak´s grandpa, he comes to Mobotropolis with us, he needs a place to sleep too." The geologist stepped beside her and shook his head. " A blanket and a corner of the couch should be enough!" Sally nodded when Rouge swaggers over to them. She stops with a smile and a hand on her hips. " Guys, would you mind when I take a break in your meeting room and contact G.U.N. to tell them the mission is done?"

As you mention G.U.N.!" Nicole looks over to Perky who messed up Tails´ hair. " Perky, I, I found Walker on a list of refugees! He is in Crimsonville, in a sanctuary run by the government! And he asked several for an inquiry about your whereabouts!"

Perky looks over, she sighs in relief. " This...is good to hear! Nicole, can you send him a message that I´m fine and stay with you here?" The lynx-girl nodded. " Sure, is already done!" Perky closed her eyes and smiled. " Thank you!"

The group left the hangar.

After a shower and dinner with the whole team Sneak and Perky lay on their new beds. Both were tired, but they can´t sleep now, too much happened the last two days that must be set. The other team members Sonic, Rotor, and Antoine seemed to be nice, but Sneak finds that Sonic tried too often to be in the center of attention. Amy told her that he got a very big ego, but she still liked him.

Perky had to get a place beside Tails and flirts with him at all costs the whole dinner. Sneak sat between Big and Bunnie and was more listening than talking.

Shortly before she entered her room, she talked with her grandpa, she had told him she wanna stay there. The next day the Sky Patrol flies to Mobotropolis, Walker wanted to work with some scientists that work for the king.

The old bilby had put his granddaughter into a hug and messed her hair like usual. " Do you know that you are like your mother?" He said. " Brave, stubborn, and ready to do all that has to be done!" Sneak only nodes. " Thank you!" She had whispered. She was sure that she wanna stay here, it was what she wanted to do. Stop Eggman and his army to bring peace to the planet.

And she was impressed that Perky wanna do that too. Well, maybe a certain young fox could be a reason for this, but she was determined.

Sneak looks over to the other girl that wraps herself into a bright pink! blanket. Perky smirks from one ear to another, then she turned around to Sneak, who lies on the bed on the other side of the room. " You think we go on a lot of adventures? Save the world and stuff?"

Sneak smiles. " It seems so!" Then she grins. " So, die Tails show you his workshop, or did you smooching him the whole!" Perky giggles and winks. " Nah, here and there a little kissy, he is very shy! But I´m working on it!" Sneak shook amused her head. " You´re a crazy one! Well, I think it´s time to sleep half a pint."

Perky nodded and turned the light above her bed out.

For a moment it was silent, then a rustle could be heard on Perky´s side and Sneak could hear her voice. " Uhm, Sneak?" " What´s up?" " Do you remember the lullabies your mom sang for you?" Perky asks, Sneak thinks for a moment. " Well, I remember one complete, she sing it mostly for me, even when I was older! When I was sick, or sad!" For a moment it was silent again, then she heard Perky take a deep breath. " Uhm, Sneak, can you sing it for me? I, need some time to get sleep in new places and maybe, it can help me! You can´t know, but never does anyone sings a lullaby for me. Well, when Grey had tried to sing a song from the radio, it sounds atrocious, so better he did not!" She giggles. Sneak thinks again for a moment.

Then she remembers a lesson.

Not from her grandpa, one her mother told her.

To be there for others, touching their heart, such thing makes yourself happy.

Sneak smiles, she clears her throat. " Well, okay, half pint! But i have not a good voice like my mother!" Perky giggles again. " But m sure it´s better than Grey´s!" Now Sneak laughs, then she clears her throat again. " Okay, then, here we go!"

Perky gets silent when Sneak starts to sing.

My little treasure, it´s time to go to bed and sleep,

how all little ones should do, when the moon makes a leap.

Dream beautiful, free and wild,

and feel safe and protected, my beloved child.

Dream of joy, adventure and the love, my dear.

and that the world never changes,

And when you wake up, i´m there to say hello,

to listen to your tale, i just need to know.

If it was heroic deed, or just some little fun,

and the journey you made through the moon and the sun.

And who will know, maybe, i was there too,

all sorrow, anger and fear, they were gone for us two.

Life with you is like a dream, so sweet, so bright,

all i need is you, in my arms, so soft, so tight.

Sneak wiped a tear out of her eye when she heard Perky whispering. " Thank you Sneak, that...that was so beautiful!" She yawned. " Good night, Ol´Sneaky!"

" Good night, a half pint." Sneak yawned too.

When she reached out to the lamp over her bed, she saw, that Perky had closed her eyes and wrapped herself more into her blanket. Sneak smiled and looked up to the ceiling, her arms crossed under her head.

She knows the wallaby girl now for two days, and she must say she likes her, even though she was very silly and picky sometimes. But also Perky was brave, nice and absolut honest with all she says and does.

Sneak looks over again. The other girl seems to fall finally asleep, one foot hanging outside of the blanket in the air. Sneak get out of her blanket and shambles over to her. Carefully she pulls the blanket over the foot. With a smile, she turns around and shambles back to her bed.

For a second Perky opened one eye, smiled happily, and closed her eye without Sneak getting aware of it.

The bilby-girl climb back into her bed and turned off the lamp. She yawned.

One thing was clear: She found new, real friends. Now everything was possible. With a big grin on her face, she closed her eyes.

And nearly directly she fell asleep.
