Chapter 9: Transamerica Tower Battle
Sometime later, Sonic is driving Rachel's beat-up car very dangerously through San Fancisco's streets
Sonic calls out, "Coming through! Whoa, now, this is my turn, and I go around him! Sorry! And, perfect park!"
Then Sonic parts lopsidedly at the curb.
A driver calls out in anger, "What are you, crazy?!
Tom exits the car and asks, "Is there anything you didn't hit?"
"Why did we let the alien drive?" Maddie questions, getting out of the car.
"Yeah," Eve says.
Then turns to her brother, "You really need to learn how to drive better."
"Hey, I got us here. And please, five stars," Sonic says.
Eve mutters, "Zero stars for your driving skills."
Soon, Sonic, Eve, Tom, and Maddie star out at the towering Transamerica building.
"So, this is it?" Sonic asks.
"That's it. That's your pyramid," Tom says.
"Wow, look at that thing!" Sonic says, excited.
"It's really tall," Eve says.
"What happens now?" Maddie questions.
Soon, Sonic speeds away.
Maddie notices, "Oh! He's… gone."
"Yep," Tom replies.
"Don't worry, he'll be back in a second.
Soon, Sonic returns to the others and says, "No good. You need a special key to get to the roof."
"What now?" Maddie asks.
"Time for me to abuse the power entrusted to me," Tom says.
Moments later, Tom and Maddie are walking to the reception desk, while Tom is carrying both hedgehogs in a large duffle bag. Tom and Maddie nod at each other and approach the front desk.
Tom talks to the receptionist, "We got a jumper on the roof. Gotta get up there fast or we're gonna have a human pancake on our hands." And holds out his badge. [Produces his badge]
Looking at the badge, the receptionist says, "You came all the way from Montana."
"Yeah. That's how serious it is," Tom answers.
There is a prolonged pause as everyone looks at each other.
Until the receptionist hands Tom the key, "Okay."
Tom takes the key and says, "You just saved a life."
After getting the key, Tom and Maddie hurry to the elevator. Maddie presses the button and waits for the elevator to come down so it can get them to the top. Soon, a businessman and businesswoman join them for the wait.
Suddenly, Sonic asks, "How much longer? I can't breathe in here! Hello? Anybody there?"
"Sonic, be quiet! Someone might hear us!" Eve says.
Confused, the businessman asks, "Do you have your children in that bag?"
"No. I mean, yes, it's two children, but it's not mine," Tom says.
"It's not your child?" The businessman questions.
"Relax. I'm a cop, okay? Plus, he likes it in there, don't you, buddy?" Tom replies and shakes the bag a little.
"Why would I like it in here? This is worse than the dog cage you had me in earlier!" Sonic questions, annoyed.
"Zip it, Sonic!" Eve sternly says.
"You zip it, Eve!" Sonic says.
"Such a kidder," Tom says and laughs.
Maddie laughs with him as she closes the zipper.
She then says, "Okay."
"No, I'm scared of the dark!" Sonic says.
"Since when?" Eve question.
Then the businessman and businesswoman slowly move away
"Is anybody there?" Sonic asks.
"Sonic," Eve sternly says.
Soon enough, the group is able to reach the roof of the Transamerica building. Tom unzips the duffle bag, freeing the two hedgehogs. Sonic and Eve are practically coughing and gagging, and Sonic is wearing a pair of underwear on his head.
Sonic says in disgust, "Ugh! What were you keeping in this bag? A jar of pickled farts?!" and takes the underwear off his head.
"It smells really bad in there," Eve adds.
"All right, all right. What are we looking for?" Tom questions.
Sonic quickly sees the Ring satchel and retrieves it. Then runs back to the others.
He takes out a ring and presents it to the others, "This."
"Okay. What happens now?" Maddie asks.
"Now, all I have to do is think of where I want the other end of the ring to appear, and I throw it," Sonic says.
"So, that's it? We did it?" Tom questions.
"Yeah! We did it!" Sonic says.
"Yeah. We really did it," Eve says.
Then Tom says, "Hey, sorry we didn't get to do everything on your bucket list, pal."
"It's okay. I did the ones I needed the most," Sonic says.
"It's alright," Eve replies.
Then Maddie says, "You three are so cute."
"Oh, please. What?" Tom questions.
"We are not," Sonic says.
Eve blushes a bit, "We are not."
"No. We're not cute," Tom says.
Then Sonic says, "We are a group of loose cannons just living by our own rules."
"Exactly," Tom and Eve reply.
"Really?" Maddie questions.
"Yeah," Tom answers.
"And our rules include expressing heartfelt emotion," Sonic adds.
"If you say so," Maddie replies.
"Okay, then," Sonic replies.
"All right. Um, you both gotta go, right?" Tom replies.
"Yeah, we gotta go," Sonic says.
"I gotta go. We gotta go," Tom says.
"Um yeah, we all have to go," Eve says.
"See- All right, bye-bye," Sonic says.
And yeah, um, bye," Sonic replies.
Sonic and Eve turn away for a moment, but end up turning back.
Then Sonic says, "Just one more thing."
Tom steps forward and kneels down to their level.
Then Sonic says, "I'm sorry I was so hard on you. I know it's a tough decision for you to leave Green Hills. Walking away from something you care about has to be painful."
"You're not sure you really want to go, huh?" Tom asks.
"Well, the truth is, we don't want to go," Eve says.
"I know, we don't want to go, but we can't stay," Sonic says.
Then says, "As long as I'm here, I put everyone in danger. I can't do that."
Then turns to Eve, "Truth is, I didn't want to put Eve in danger either when I first met her. Even if we're not related, she's willing to staying with me no mater what happens. And go where I go, and know that she's also like me. And others might do something to her if she stays."
"Really Sonic?" Eve asks.
"Of course, you became a sister to me, and even though I feel bad for you getting mixed up in all this, I'm glad you're still sticking by me," Sonic says.
Eve smiles and says, "Thanks Sonic. I'm glad too."
Then Sonic turns to Tom, "I just want you to know that these last two days have been the best two days of our lives."
Sonic and Eve smile and so does Tom as he stands up and walks to Maddie.
Then Tom says, "You know, I never thought I'd say this, but, I'm actually gonna miss you, you little blue devil and red witch."
"Yeah. We'll miss you too," Eve says.
Then Sonic says, "Thank you."
"For what?" Tom asks.
"For saving our lives," Sonic says.
Sonic and Eve then turn around .Sonic reaches into his satchel and pulls a Ring out. He then tosses one of the Rings, but ends up bouncing off of one of Dr. Robotnik's drone, catching everyone by shock. Soon, multiple of Dr. Robotnik's drone flew up and surrounded the four.
"Okay, did someone leave their 'Find My Phone' on?" Sonic asks.
Sonic and Eve step back until they stop at the edge of the roof. Tom and Maddie stick together and step back as the drones surround them. Just then, a flying aircraft flies overhead and covers over the group. Then the cockpit opens, revealing Dr. Robotnik in an entirely different outfit.
"Welcome to San Francisco, Mr. Wachowski. Are you enjoying the clam chowder?" Robotnik says to Tom.
Tom turns to Maddie and says, "It's the government whack job who keeps trying to kill us." Then turns to Robotnik, "Unsuccessfully!"
Robotnik scowls at the remark.
Then Tom says, "Nice of you to swing by on your way to Comic-Con."
"Yeah, what are you wearing?" Maddie questions.
Robotnik looks at his outfit and then to the four on the roof, "It's a flight suit, designed to modulate my body temperature and reduce," Then says through his clenched teeth, "drag!"
"Yeah, and you still are one," Tom says.
"Oh-hoo! Good one. You are catching fire, Thomas. Oh, and speaking of heat, I see you've taken a lover. Does she have a name, or should we just call her 'collateral damage'?" Robotnik says, and then chuckles and drums the side of his Eggpod.
"Hey, watch your mouth! Unless you want a little more of what I gave you earlier," Maddie says.
Then says to Maddie, "I punched him in the face."
"Oh! He punched him right in the face! It was awesome!" Sonic says.
"Yeah. I wish I could have recorded that," Eve says with a grin on her face.
"The time for talking is over!" Robotnik says through his clenched teeth.
Then says, "It's time to push buttons!"
"Your flying eggs are pretty impressive, Mr. Eggman, but let's face it, you'll never catch us!" Sonic says.
"Yeah. We're way too fast for you and your little toys," Eve says.
"Confidence! A fool's substitute for intelligence," Robotnk says.
He then opens the button capsule as the energy of both Sonic and Eve's quills power the Eggpods and the flying drone ready their weapons.
"That's not good," Sonic says.
"More like extremely bad," Eve says.
"Sonic, I know you and your sister got the super speed and everything, but Maddie and I-" Tom says.
"Totally defenseless?" Sonic questions.
"Probably gonna get blown up?" Eve adds
"Pretty much, yeah," Maddie says.
"Don't worry. I know exactly what to do," Sonic says.
Sonic then jumps up to the side of the wall, and jumps forward, pushing Tom and Maddie off the roof.
Dr. Robotnik looks down in his Eggpod in shock, I was not expecting that... But I was expecting not to expect something, so it doesn't count.
The flying drones then fire their weapons at the hedgehogs, but everyone seems to stop in place, due to both hedgehog's awareness increases. Sonic then plays around with some of the missiles and bullets from the Egg Drone weapons and is able to destroy most of them. Along with both Hedgehogs are now on the side of the building, heading to Tom and Maddie.
But Robotnik pushes the button and the quill fully charges the Eggpod and grants him access to Sonic and Eve's timescale and flies up in the air.
Sonic is makes a shooting hands gesture to two more Egg Drones, and still messing around. Suddenly, Eve notices that Robotnik is flying right towards them, Sonic notices it too. Robotnik then fires a laser blast at the two hedgehogs, but they escape in the nick of time. Yet, causing them to enter slight delirium. Sonic and Eve recover from their sudden trance to see Tom and Maddie still falling towards the ground. Sonic then tries to reach the Ring.
"Come on!" Sonic cries out reaching for the ring, "Come on, come on, come on!" but is unable to reach it.
Sonic then plucks one of his quills and uses it to grab the Ring. He then speeds towards the falling coule and tosses the Ring. The Ring opens a portal to a barn for them, and they land safely in the pile of hay.
Back at the tower, Sonic loses control as he begins to fall.
Sonic panics, "Whoa, whoa, whoa! No, no, no!"
"Sonic!" Eve cries out and grabs hold of him.
Eve clutches Sonic in her arms, and suddenly, her body emits red electricity. And suddenly, a bubble appears around Sonic and Eve. They both hit the branches, but are protected by the bubble and land on the street. Then the Rings, rubble, and broken drones rain down around them.
Back at the barn in Montana, the farmer, Farmer Zimmer walks inside to see Tom and Maddie in the bark, regaining themselves from the farm.
Farmer Zimmer walks inside and says, "Oh! Hi, Tom! Glad you're here. Could use some help. Old Bessie's about to give birth!"

"Give me a minute," Tom answers, feeling tired.
