Chapter 10: Hedgehogs Run and Fight Back

Back in San Francisco, Sonic and Eve regain themselves and notice the bubble that surrounds them. Then it soon disappears as they look at the rings, debris, branches, and broken drones scattered on the street around them.

"Did you just make a bubble?" Sonic asks.

"I… I think I just did… how did I…" Eve wonders.

Before Eve can continue, Robotnik's Eggpod lowers itself to where the hedgehogs are.

"Can I give you one genius piece of advice? Don't run. It'll only hurt more if you do. And it's bad for your joints, they proved it," Robotnik advises.

"All right, Eggman. You wanna get fast? Let's get fast!" Sonic says.

Sonic then scrambles quickly to gather all of his rings.

Then Sonic and Eve speed off as Eve calls out, "Catch us if you can.

Dr. Robotnik puts on his flight goggles and says, "The hard way it is."

The cockpit to the Eggpod closes, and Robotik begins to chase after the two hedgehogs. Sonic and Eve run with their speed as Robotnik fires his laser blast at them, causing some damage on certain road sections. Seeing Robotnik chasing after them, the two hedgehogs make a sharp left, but Robotnik turns left to continue the pursuit.

"That was an illegal left, by the way!" Robotnik comments.

The chase continues, but pauses to where it's left off.

Sonic (narrates): So, here we are again! We've been through so much together!

Eve (narrates): And now you understand why there's a psychotic robot doctor chasing a supersonic blue hedgehog.

Sonic (narrates): Want to know how it ends? Yeah, us too.

And the pursuit continues as Sonic and Eve continue to dodge Robotnik's laser blasts from his Eggpod. They keep running along the buildings and on the street. Then they slide under a large trailer to avoid the attack. Then continues running, but Robotnik is still after them.

Eve says, "He's still after us."

"But how is this possible?! No one's ever caught up to us before!" Sonic questions.

"Maybe we can use one of the rings to lose him," Eve suggests.

Sonic holds up a ring, "It's worth a try!"

In France in front of the Ethel Tower, a Mime is entertaining a little girl and her mother. When the mime makes a circular movement with his hand, the Ring portal opens behind them, and the two hedgehogs zip through. The mother and child quickly move out of the way.

Sonic calls out, "Coming through!"

"Excuse us!" Eve adds.

Then Robotnik follows from behind.

The Mime panics, "Sacrebleu!" and ducks his head.

Robotik's Eggpod flies through the Ring.

"Excusez-moi, monsieur!" Robotnik says in french.

Then, the pursuit continues along the Great Wall of China.

"Here we go! Room to open it up!" Sonic says.

And with that, Sonic and Eve continue to pick up speed, but Robotnik is still after them.

Eve sees, "Robotnik is still after us. How is he able to catch up to us?

"I'm wondering the same thing," Sonic says, and tosses the Ring, "We can't lose him!"

The two hedgehogs run through the ring and end up in Egypt. Robotnik continues to fire multiple laser blasts from the Eggpods to blast the hedgehogs. Robotnik ends up destroying the Sphinx in the princess. Then the two hedgehogs skid to a stop in the sand.

"If we can't beat 'em, blind 'em," Sonic says.

Eve nods her head, understanding the plan.

Sonic and Eve speed and catch up to Robotnik. Then together, they both use their speed to create a whirlwind of sand, causing disruption in Robotki's visual contact.

"Lost… visual contact!" Robotnik says, struggling to see.

He then notices the two hedgehogs speeding up the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Robotnik calls out, "You're not allowed up there! It's one of the Seven Wonders!"

Robotnik then blasts the Eggpod out of the whirlwind of sand and flies towards one of the pyramids Sonic and Eve are running on. Sonic soon opens the Ring to the tip top of the pyramid and the two hedgehogs hurry to the top as Robotnik prepares to fire.

Before the two hedgehogs reach the top, Robotnik fires the laser blast at both hedgehogs, sending them flying through the portal. Then the portal opens along the street of Green Hills, and the two have been blasted out of the portal and crash and slide onto the street. Those who are out witness the two hedgehogs crash and notice the two hedgehogs are getting up.

Robotnik menacingly appears through the portal as it closes. Tom, Maddie, and farmer rush to see what the commotion is all about.

Robotnik cackles and removes his goggles, "You both are astonishing little creatures."

Tom and Maddie look to see Sonic and Eve have gotten hurt. Tom notices Sonic's satchel on the ground and picks it up.

Robotnik continues, "It'll be fun to take you both back to the lab for a litany of invasive exploratory procedures. Any last words?"

Sonic and Eve struggle to stand.

With little strength Sonic has, Sonic answers, "Guac… I like that word…"

Eve tries to get up, but both she and Sonic slump over on the ground.

Behind Robotnik's Eggpod, the Ring Portal opens and Tom is standing behind it. Then Tom hops onto it while Robotnik isn't looking.

"I don't have to tell you how many scientific breakthroughs have been made possible by animal testing. You're being very selfish," Robotnik says.

"Going my way?" Tom calls out.

Robotnik turns to notice Tom, "What the-" but Tom punches him in the face, knocking the flight glasses off his head.

Soon, the two begin to fight on the Eggpod.

Robotnik then grabs Tom by his shirt, "Who the hell do you think you are?!"

Tom then breaks free and punches him in the face again.

Tom then grabs Robotnik and says, "I'm the Donut Lord, you son of a-"

Then Robotnik elbows Tom, and jerks the steering yoke, throwing Tom off the Eggpod and lands on the street.

Robotnik commands, "Autopilot, adjust!" and puts on his goggles on his head.

Maddie then rushes to Tom.

Then Robotnik questions, "Why? Why would you throw your life away for these...things? That's why I don't have friends. Next thing you know, you're somebody's best man, they want to have the wedding out of town... Like nobody has anything better to do! Anyway, where were we? Oh, yes-you were about to die."

Suddenly, a bullet ricochets off the Eggpodd. The one who fires the bullet is Wade holding his gun.

He then says, "That's our sheriff you're messing with."

Tom looks up to see some some of his friends, and others join Wade, even Crazy Carl

"And our Blue Devil and Red Witch," Then Carl holds out his chainsaw, "who, as everyone can see, are very real creatures and not at all invented by me!"

Wade then gently pushes the chainsaw away, "Careful. Just- just put it away."

Maddie looks over to the unconscious hedgehogs, "Tom?"

Tom also looks to see both Sonic and Eve unconscious on the street, and both him and Maddie feel grief and guilt.

But Robotnik interrupts the moment, "I don't mean to be indelicate here, but someone should get some ice, keep the bodies fresh."

Tom lowers his head

Then Robotnik says, "They're just silly little aliens. They didn't belong here!"

Tom looks over Robotnik and says, "These little aliens... knew more about being human... than you ever will. Their names are Sonic and Eve. This was their home... and he were my friends."

Upon hearing Ton's speech, both Sonic and Eve open their eyes immediately and both stand up as their body supercharges, leaving Dr. Robotnik bewildered. Tom and Maddie smile to see both hedgehogs are alright.

Tom turns to Sonic and Eve and says, "He's all yours!"

Then leads Maddie out of the way as he calls out, "Everyone get back!"

Soon, everyone else moved out of the way.

Eve sternly says, "We think you have something that belongs to us!"

Both Sonic and Eve clench their fist, and begin to siphon the energy of their quills inside Robotnik's Eggpod, until they lose their glow and the energy is now transferred to the two hedgehogs.

Then Sonic says, "This is my power, and I'm not using it to run away anymore. I'm using it to protect… my… friends!"

And turns to Eve, "And to fight alongside my sister."

Eve smiles and nods her head. Sonic does the same.

Dr. Robotnik put on his flight goggles and readied the Eggpod's concealed weapon. Then the laser markers point at both hedgehogs as they stand in position on the road. Robotnik smirks and fires the weapons at both hedgehogs. Sonic and Eve then accelerate their speed into action, and dodge the weapons flying at them. Sonic then bounces to the wall, and spin dashes at Eggpod. Eve bounces to the wall and spin dashes at the Eggpod as well. Soon, hedgehog spin sashes all of the Eggpod so rapidly that the Eggpod is disabling and the cockpit is badly damaged.

Now Robotnik is infuriated, "Now, you've done it!"

"Guess what, Eggman? We're not leaving Earth," Eve says.

Then Sonic says, "YOU are!" and calls out, "Donut Lord?"

Tom nods his head as he takes position behind Robotnik. He takes out the ring and throws it, opening a portal to the Mushroom Planet. Just then, Robotnik charges towards the hedgehogs, and Sonic and Eve charge as well. Both Hedgehogs then spin dash together in a spiral and land a powerful blow to the Eggpod, reducing it to junk, and send it and the screaming Robotnik through the portal. Soon, the portal closes, sealing Robotnik away.

Soon as the portal closes, the energy both Sonic and Eve emanate around them fade away, with the crowd cheering for both hedgehogs' victory.

Then Tom reunites with the hedgehogs, I told you, you got this."

"Hey, we got this," Sonic says.

"We sure do," Eve replies.

Tom then holds out his hand for a high-five. Sonic is so excited that he laughs and runs around in a circle. Then Sonic jumps up and gives Tom a high-five. Eve giggles and decides to give Tom a high-five as well.

Tom then hands the Ring satchel back to Sonic, "I think these belong to you."

"Thank you very much," Sonic says.

Before giving Sonic the Rings, Tom says, "No more pushing people off buildings."

"You know I can't promise that," Sonic replies.

Then Tom gives Sonic back his ring satchel.

"You did pretty good, space 'hogs," Tom says.

Then Sonic says, "Thanks, Donut Lord."

"You're gonna have to explain this 'Donut Lord' thing," Maddie says.

"Nope, sorry," Tom replies, making Maddie laugh.

"That's between me and the little guys. Right?" Tom says.

Sonic and Eve nod their heads in reply.

"We got our own thing, you got your thing with your… sister," Tom says, and soon realizes.

Maddie realizes as well, "Oh, my God, my sister."

"Oh man, we left your sister tied up," Eve says.

They soon realize that they leave Rachel tied up in her home.

Jojo is running around the house shouting, "Gotta go fast! Gotta go fast! Gotta go fast! Gotta go fast!"

Bored, Rachek says, "Jojo, put on my Fitbit… so I can at least get some steps."

Maddie turns to Tom, "We can never go back there."

"I mean, are we?" Tom replies.

Then the couple exchange looks.

"'Cause it kinda feels like we're home right now," Tom says.

"Really?" Maddie asks.

"I kinda feel like I checked the 'save a life' box off my bucket list. Now all I want to do is spend my life with the people I care about. I want to check that box," Tom says.

"Yeah, I like that," Maddie says.

Then both Tom and Maddie give each other a hug.

Wade then turns to everyone, "All right, everybody. Nothing to see here." and clap his hands together, "Let's disperse."

Soon, everyone begins to go back on their regular routine

Wade continues, "Just another ordinary day in Green Hills. Carl, I'll take that chainsaw."

Tom, Maddie, Sonic, and Eve begin to walk home together as Wade continues to disperse the crowd, "Come on, let's go! You act like you've never seen a fight between the intergalactic space rodents and a robot with a doctorate!"
