In the year 2020 the Earth was destroyed by nuclear war. Humanity managed to save themselves by building arks to carry them out in the universe. The nuclear fall out had unusual consequences it freed the Chaos Force a embodiment of all Chaos energy. It transforms earth into Mobius and the evolutionary process of the transition evolved the animals into Mobians and Mobini. The Chaos Force then send some of its power in seven emeralds and scattered them across Mobius.
The Mobians lived in peace with nature and with each other but the peace did not last the echidnas believed that they established themselves as a civilized and advanced society centuries before the other species on the planet.They formed the Echidna Empire and made Echidnaopolis in the heart of the Mystic jungle. Finding the emeralds the echidnas made experiments on them before using them for themselves. The first test was Westside island giving the emeralds to Alexander Acorn he use them to develop his kingdom and achieve prosperity. However he abused the stones' power, his prosperity vanished overnight. And unknowingly left a negative source that left a curse on his family.
This outcome led to a civil war between the echidnas one side led Pachacamac and other led Imperator Ix who created the Dark Brotherhood. Alexander then gave the emeralds back to the echidnas hope to save whatever was left of his kingdom. Alexander then started to use the source to help rebuild his kingdom calling it the source of all. He later build his capital city Mobotropolis he invited every Mobian to the grand opening and festivities. Wishing to have the peaceful ness before the echidna empire formed tries to everyone come under his rule.
A riot then broke out with Aman-Rapi the hedgehog leading anyone who did not wish to this rule to form his own kingdom on Christmas Island. Over a year the kingdom of hedgehog has been establish with the capital city being on Christmas Island being called Mobodoon. Some Mobians not wish to live under the rule of the acorns or the hedgehog made a home on South Island some times called freedom island. The echidnas led Imperator Ix not liking this outcome tries to force the people under their control but a organization of heroes led by the owls attack the echidnas. A the Great War was forced on mobius witch led to the rising of Echidnaopolis becoming angel island, the extinction of the echidnas led by Pachacamac, the Dark Brotherhood imprisonment in the twilight zone, extinction of the owls, and the creation of the master emerald by the chaos force. It was displeased by their creations and chose avatars the ancient walkers to monitor Mobius. But the Great War had caught the interest of one Julian Ivo Robotnik.
