Chapter 102: Great Emerald Battle - Part 1
Last time on Sonic the Hedgehog, after a great battle Master Mogul, the world is given a moment of peace throughout. A pair of Freedom Fighters are given the chance to marry during this peace. But like always, it is always not meant to last...

Albion Labs; 20 Years Ago...
*Within the labs of Albion's Electrodome, Luna was walking with a light green male Echidna wearing a lab coat and a pair of goggles over his eyes. They were on a catwalk overlooking the development of some kind of machine, green glowing energy being pumped into it.*
Luna: "Dr. Finitevus. I do truly do not try to doubt your genius-"
Finitevus: "Then don't try now. This is the advancement our civilization needs- No, the advancement our world needs!"
Luna: "You say that, but dealing with Chaos Energy just to link with the Chaos Force? Have you learned nothing of our ancestors messing with things they have very little knowledge of?"
Finitevus: "Pachacamac was a fool who wished for power and would stop at nothing to obtain it. We are different in that we intend to use this power to simply study the Chaos Force itself. And if there is ever a time we need it, we shall use it."
Luna: *Holds her arm before looking at the Echidna scientists hard at work. She let's out a sigh.* "Fine... I shall be overlooking the development of the project in case things go wrong..."
Finitevus: "They shan't, my lady..." *Smiles and extends a hand.* "This shall truly be the greatest undertaking in Mobius' history."
Luna: "If you say so..." *Grabs the hand and shakes it, parting ways with Finitevus as two Echidna guards join her.*
*In the lab proper, Finitevus examines the machine with his scientists.*
Finitevus: "Lady Luna looks upon us, everyone. And so will Lady Ponza from beyond the grave. We must not fail, people. Gale! Energy readings?" *Looks at a monitor.*
Gale: "Current readings are stable. Chaos Energy levels are rising to 90% and beyond, sir!"
Finitevus: "Keep an eye on those readings. Kin! Start the procedure when you are ready!"
Kin: "Starting primary emitters."
*The machine's large rotors start to spin alive, Gale getting some slight readings.*
Gale: "Stability is secured, sir. Though we seem to be hitting at the high green."
Finitevus: "It will be fine. Secondary emitters: on!" *lowers a lever as three rods under the machine start to catch lightning from the machine.*
*The Chaos Energy begins to bubble as a form of portal starts to form at the center of the machine.*
Gale: "Sir! We got a direct link to the Chaos Force! The readings are incredible!"
Kin: "Doctor! You were right!"
Finitevus: "Hmph. Of course. Now that we have this direct link, we may protect our planet yet."
*Luna continues to look down, a bit surprised by the success before walking down to congratulate Finitevus.*
Luna: "Finitevus... I must say... I really shouldn't have doubted you. I'm terribly sorry..." *Bows in apology at the doctor.*
Finitevus: "Nonsense... If my genius must be proven, then I shall prove it! But let us not forget the proud members of our science division as-"
*A sudden spark from the machine, causing one of the emitter rods to shut down.*
Gale: "Dr. Finitevus! Readings just spiked up to red! The portal is becoming unstable!"
Finitevus: "What!? No!"
*The portal starts becoming a black hole as pieces of the building start getting sucked into it. The scientists and Luna all hang on to something in the environment as the portal's suction becomes increasingly aggressive.*
Luna: "Finitevus! We have to close that thing! Otherwise, the entire city and the world will get sucked into it!"
Finitevus: "Ugh... There's an emergency shut down switch! Kin!"
Kin: "Yes, sir!" *Starts to crawl over to the switch, trying as hard as he can.*
*As the rest continue to hold on, Finitevus looks up and sees a container of Chaos Energy fly at him, smashing right on his face and body, causing him to scream in pain. He lets go of his support and is dragged towards the portal.*
Luna: "Finitevus!" *Lets go of her support and grabs Finitevus by the hand before catching the edge of the machine with her other arm. Half her body, as well as Finitevus, was through the portal.* "Ahhh! It hurts! It hurts! What is this!?" *Pulls herself and Finitevus out of the portal, crying as she did.*
*Kin reaches the emergency shut down switch before slamming his hand on it, breaking it. The machine is forced off as Luna and Finitevus are pulled out. Luna's left arm and lower half was left badly injured by whatever was beyond the portal, though Finitevus looked even worse.*
Luna: "Call an ambulance! Quickly! Finitevus... You'll be okay! Stay with me!"
Albion Leadership Building; Present Day
*Now present day, Luna was in her office, looking at a photo of herself and her family, before hearing a door open. Sonia had entered.*
Sonia: "Yo. I'm not disturbing you, am I?"
Luna: "Nay. Just taking a walk-through memory lane. What might you need, miss Hedgehog?" *Places the picture down.*
Sonia: "It's about Manik. I still haven't found him and... I really have run out of options of who or where to turn to..."
Luna: "I see..." *Smiles before nodding.* "Very well..." *Stands from her seat before sitting in a meditative state, her aura appearing around her.* "Hmm... I see... I see him. He is at Angel Island...?"
Sonia: "Angel Island? But for what reason?"
Angel Island; Master Emerald Shrine
*At Angel Island, Knuckles was sitting at the foot of the shrine, looking up at the sky as his foot kicked to some kind of beat.*
Knuckles: "...Maybe I should take up a music career..." *Hears something from the bushes, causing him to stand and look at the foliage ahead.* "Who's there? Whoever you are, you had best leave my island."
*He then starts hearing some kind of singing. It sounded...oddly angelic to his ears. But as he listened, he suddenly hit in the chest by an elbow, pushing him back to the stairs and leaving a crater in them.*
Knuckles: "Ugh... Okay... Cheap shot, wise guy. But you just messed with the wrong-" *Gets up and sees his attacker, his eyes widening.* "No way..."
*Standing across from Knuckles was none other than Manik, now sporting a pair of sunglasses and a far more punkish look, including piercings on his ears, nose, and bottom lip.*
Manik: "Hey, Knux. Miss me? Because I certainly didn't miss."
Knuckles: "Manik?" *Clenches his fists before putting them up.* "I don't know what's going on, but I am not letting that attack slide."
Manik: "Oh, you might. If my girl has anything to say about it. And you'll find her quite the screamer."
*Mina walks into view, also donning a punkish look with some extra piercings and even her hair dyed black.*
Mina: "Ugh... What an ugly little shrine. That emerald deserves so much better." *Breaths in and lets out a scream, sending a force of sound at Knuckles, blowing him right of the park.*
Manik: "Nice. Yo, Nack! Get that stupid emerald and bugger off back to the hideout."
Nack: "Don't tell me what to do, bub!" *Jumps out of the bushes.* "You and that punk girl just keep Knucklehead distracted while I snag this big girl."
Manik: "Tch. Come on, babe. Let's give Knuckles a show he won't ever forget...in Hell."
Mina: *Smirks before following Manik to go after Knuckles.*
Nack: "...What a crazy couple..."
Angel Island; Mushroom Hill
*Knuckles had landed on a mushroom, one on his head like a hat covering his eyes. He lifts a hand and moves it off his eyes.*
Knuckles: "Alright... Sonic. I'm really sorry for this... But your little bro's gonna need a good spanking for that." *Stands back up and sees Manik rushing in.*
*Knuckles braces himself for impact but hears Mina singing again. As he hears the song, Manik lands a kick right to the side of Knuckles' face, sending the echidna flying.*
Manik: "Yo, Knux! I thought you were tougher than this! Don't tell me you've gone soft!"
Knuckles: "How's this for soft!?" *Punches the ground, creating a quake that closes in at Manik, forcing the hedgehog to jump over it. He then flies in and lands a good solid punch at Manik's face, sending him flying at a few mushrooms, bouncing off them.*
Mina: "My, you are a nuisance." *Starts singing another song, though Knuckles tried to block this one out, he picking up on what Mina was doing.*
*Knuckles then began to go through a trippy state, he starting to see all kinds of shapes and colors like he had underwent hypnosis. Mina smiles as she takes full advantage of this, punching and kicking Knuckles as Manik made his way back.*
Manik: "Hypnotized him, eh? Well... Not as fun as if he was fighting back." *Shrugs before raising a hand, his hand sparking with electricity.* "Time to finish him off."
*Manik starts to reach his hand out at the hypnotized Knuckles, ready to shock him to death. But then, he and Mina are hit by loud soundwaves, causing them to scream out and cover their ears. Manik is punched while Mina is kicked, the two flying into the stalks of a couple of mushrooms. Manik looks up and sees...Sonia.*
Finitevus' Lair
*A Warp Ring portal opens up as Nack the Weasel drags into the sanctum the large Master Emerald, which seemed to weigh a lot considering his struggle.*
Nack: "Ugh... I do not get paid near enough for these jobs..." *Places the Emerald down before sighing.* "Yo! Doc! I got that stupid Emerald!"
Finitevus: "Good. And just in time too... Preparations are almost complete..." *Stretches out a hand as the Master Emerald floats over to its new altar.* "Soon... This world will know true chaos..." *Smiles evilly as he stares into his reflection on the Emerald.*

Author's Note:
Note to self: Don't plan one arc hoping to pan out the story, expecting to finish it within a week. It never works out. So this arc wasn't meant to be the next immediate thing to do. It was actually after another planned arc that I was typing out but gave up on: the Sonic the Fighters adaptation. I just got bored and disinterested in writing it and so moved to the next best thing. This. And I typed all of this out in the span of a few hours (12 AM to 4 AM my time). Yep. A whole week...for not my best work, but eh. Its not bad. I think I did decently. Anyway, look forward to more soon.
Also doing science stuff is hard when you're not a scientist.
