Chapter 105: Great Emerald Battle - Part 4

Last time on Sonic the Hedgehog, tragedy strikes as Dr. Finitevus unleashes his plan, turning himself into a truly powerful entity. With his power, he erupts black energy from the Master Emerald, leading to the destruction of Albion. Though not all hope is lost as Manik and Mina have finally returned to their senses, with the mission to stop Finitevus.

Albion

*In the aftermath of the eruption of power from Finitevus' experiment, the city of Albion now lay in ruins. Because of how sudden the attack was, many had lost their lives. However, a few did survive... Peza, a member of the Albion Defense Force, was attempting to help people still left alive but who were stuck under rubble. While this was happening, deep underground, the Chaotix and Luna were confronting Dr. Finitevus...now shrouded in a black Chaos aura with the now blackened Master Emerald behind him.*

Finitevus: "I am now the Controller of Chaos. Time, space, and reality itself shall bend to my will. And the first order of business...will be to reshape this world..."

Luna: "Finitevus... Do you not realize what you have done!?"

Finitevus: "Oh I realize. I have perfected a scientific theory. By utilizing the power of Chaos with the Controller as a conduit, I have achieved-"

Luna: "Absolute genocide!"

*Finitevus stops, looking at Luna with...less of a look of distress or realization and more annoyance.*

Luna: "Our home... Our people... All those innocents... They are dead... ALL FOR WHAT, FINITEVUS!? I thought the point of this experiment was to save us, not kill us!"

Finitevus: "...What delusions..." *Sends a fist through a ring portal, punching Luna in the face from where he was standing.* "Of course this experiment will save you. All of you... By destroying you, I will recreate the world into my own image. A new world order shall be born! A world built by the great Dr. Finitevus!"

*The Chaotix check on Luna before Vector glares back at Finitevus.*

Vector: "Chaotix! Bring him down!"

Charmy: "Yes, sir!"

Espio: "Right!"

*The trio launch at Finitevus, Espio tossing three kunai knives at the mad Echidna. Finitevus smiles before opening a portal in front of himself, the kunai going through before creating a connecting portal aimed at Charmy. The kunai are tossed out, causing Charmy to dodge. Vector jumps at Finitevus before going in for a fist slam on the doc. He is blocked by a barrier, though Finitevus is shot back a bit by the force.*

Finitevus: "You're much stronger than you look, crocodile... But not strong enough!" *Sends out bolts of black Chaos at Vector, though the croc is quick to dodge.*

Espio: "Don't underestimate our ability to fight back!" *Snuck behind the doctor in order to try an assassination attempt, but his knife is blocked by a barrier.*

Charmy: "Charmy Bee Dive Bomb!" *Dive bombs at Finitevus with his stinger pointed first, once again being blocked by a barrier.*

Finitevus: "Give up. I am the Controller now! Chaos bends to my will! And so will y-"

*His barriers are smashed, allowing Charmy and Espio to close in and attack, though they miss as Finitevus opens a portal below himself. He drops down some distance away from the duo before seeing what smashed his barriers; it was Luna.*

Luna: "I have practiced my barriers for twenty years, Finitevus... Your barriers are nothing in comparison."

*Finitevus grits his teeth before rushing at Luna, she conjures a shield in front of her to block him. But he goes through one of his Warp Rings, getting around the barrier and behind her, grabbing her by the throat and slamming her to the barrier wall.*

Finitevus: "I admit, I do feel regret having to end you, Luna. You, out of everyone, supported me the most... Funding my projects, giving me a reason to keep going... If not for that incident, I suppose... Nay, perhaps it was fate you and I went our separate ways..."

Luna: "You... You were different back then, Finitevus... I was still a new Leader and Guardian for Albion... But seeing you now... You are worthy of nothing but scorn..."

Finitevus: "I gained power!" *Slams her against the barrier.* "I gained knowledge!" *Slam.* "I have seen things fools like you could never comprehend!" *Slams again, the barrier cracking as Luna's head started to bleed.* "The fact you say this now... Means you had no confidence in my project... You were always against me!" *Smashes the barrier with Luna, slamming her to the ground as he tries to choke her out.*

Vector: "Let her go!" *Slams fist right on Finitevus' chin, sending the Echidna flying back and saving Luna.*

*Espio jumps off the back of Vector, sending himself high in the air before tossing ninja stars at the dazed Doctor. Vector then readies his headphones to go on maximum blast before blasting at Finitevus.*

Finitevus: "Apparently, you don't learn from the first time..." *Readies to open a couple of Warp Rings, but gets interrupted by a punch to the back of his head, knocking him forward a bit before he is hit by the blast and ninja stars, he getting sent to a wall.*

*Vector and Espio look up and see a figure land in front of them. It was Jani-Ca...and she looked furious.*

Vector: "Look who finally decided to join us."

Jani: "..." *Gives Vector a very deadly glare, causing him to reel back his comment.*

Vector: "Gh! I-I-I mean... Hey, glad you could...uh...join us... Where's the rest of the Albion Defense Force?"

Jani: "...Dead. Except Peza... And she's helping the survivors evacuate..."

Luna: "..." *Looks down to the floor before Finitevus stood back up.*

Finitevus: "...I see. So the Guardian dares to interfere with my plans then..." *Opens a Warp Ring before smiling.*

Luna: "STOP HIM!"

*Too late; Finitevus enters the portal and reappears onto his altar, touching the Dark Master Emerald and absorbing its power to heal himself.*

Finitevus: "Allow me to show you even more power of the Controller." *His aura starts to ignite before he smiles.* "Chaos Control!"

*Time slows to a stop before he rushes at each Chaotix member. He sends a few punches to Vector, a heavy kick to Espio's back, then took a kunai from Espio's hammerspace to toss at Charmy. Time resumes normally and Vector and Espio are immediately hit by the attacks, knocking them out. Charmy turns to the knife and his mind goes blank as he sees impending death approach him. But he is saved by Jani using her own Chaos Control to get close to Charmy and push him aside, the knife lodging itself into her shoulder.*

Charmy: "Jani!"

Jani: "Grr... I'll be fine! I've taken worse..."

Finitevus: "This is the true power of Chaos! I control Chaos with my very will! My very power bends time and space!"

Voice: "Might want to work on your other flexes then, you Eggman wannabe!"

*Suddenly, Finitevus is met by an axe kick to his head then a up-kick below the jaw. Below him, he saw Manik, who then roundhouse kicked Finitevus to the side as Mina landed to her boyfriend's side.*

Luna: "...Manik..."

Manik: "Sorry, we're a little late. Getting here from Angel Island took a while longer than I thought."

Mina: "Time for a little number of ours called 'Give up, and maybe we'll go easy on you, Finitevus'!"

Finitevus: "Hmph. Such troubling children... Though you did do your job in bringing me the Controller... The Master Emerald. As such-"

*Jani suddenly appears over Finitevus, punching at his barrier, then smashing through it and landing a punch to his face.*

Jani: "Would you just shut up!? Nobody cares about you anymore! You heartless, genocidal, egomaniacal loser!" *Slams a Chaos infused fist right at Finitevus's chest, causing him to fly right out of the hidden cave system and right into Albion itself.*

Manik: "...Man, save some beating for us, Jani."

Jani: "And you. You and Mina have a lot to answer for."

Manik: "...I know... Mina and I plan to take full responsibility over what happened... But more importantly..."

*Manik runs along the walls of the cave while Jani grabs Mina and flies, the trio leaving through the hole in the ceiling made by the Dark Master Emerald.*

*In the ruins of Albion, Finitevus stands back up, igniting his black Chaos energy as he glares at the coming trio.*

Finitevus: "It seems I should stop messing around. After all... What's the point of changing the World Order if you can't demonstrate your full power!?"

Jani: "Manik! Double attack, me and you! Mina, supply support!"

Manik: "Right!"

Mina: "Yes, ma'am!"

*Mina lets out soundwaves from her scream at Finitevus, Manik charging up an electrified Light Speed Dash before launching with Jani over to the mad doctor. Finitevus is stunned by the scream, but quickly fixes that by sticking a hand through a Warp Ring to grab Mina's mouth and silence her. He then conjures a barrier to block Manik and Jani before creating a second Warp Ring below himself to escape as their combined power shatter through his barrier. Finitevus falls from his second Warp Portal, landing on top of Jani and slamming a fist on her before landing a kick on Manik's stomach.*

Mina: "Uh oh..."

Manik: "Don't worry... We're okay!"

Finitevus: "No you're not." *Enters another Warp Ring before sneaking behind Mina and grabbing her, keeping her at a choke hold.* "Give up the heroics, Manik. You were never cut out for them."

Manik: "Maybe not... But at least Mina and I can kick butt!"

*Back in the caves, Luna was healing Vector and Espio, the two waking up after a moment.*

Vector: "Ugh... Anyone get the number on that Fist of the North Star issue?"

Espio: "What...happened?"

Luna: "Manik and Jani took the fight above ground... But I fear their strength alone will only delay the inevitable... Especially if he is allowed to come back to the Controller..."

Charmy: "Then let's smash the Emerald! If he can't use it then we can beat him, right?"

Luna: "In its current state, breaking the Controller may do more harm than good..." *Stands to her feet before staring at the Controller, looking down with a sad smile.* "I know what to do... What must be done..."

Vector: "What must done...?"

Luna: "Charmy is right about one thing..." *Starts walking ahead before conjuring a lengthy barrier, completely cutting Chaotix off to one half of the room.*

Espio: "Luna! What are you doing!?"

Vector: "Don't do anything stupid!" *Starts punching at the barrier, but can't put a dent in it.*

Luna: "It's far too late for that, Vector... I had made way too many mistakes... Blinded by my own good heart and too many times have I seen those mistakes take those I hold dear to me... This one...costed me my city..." *Approaches the Dark Master Emerald.* "And now... It is time to redeem my actions..."

*Finitevus was starting to lose ground, but he kept up the fight, catching an incoming punch from Jani before tossing her at Manik, then sweep kicking Mina off her feet and to the ground.*

Luna: "The servers are the seven Chaos... Chaos is Power... Power enriched by the Heart..." *Extends her hand out and touches the Dark Master Emerald.* "...Please, Controller... See to my daughter's safety in my stead... Thank you..." *A tear rolls down her cheek as a bright light shoots out into the room and out of the hole from which the Emerald carved into the ceiling.*

*The fighters above ground see the bright light, Finitevus's black aura vanishing as his eyes widened. Jani looks on before trying to feel for her mother's energy.*

Finitevus: "My power... That death seeking fool! She must've rewritten my hex and destroyed the black energy within-" *Gets punched in the face by Jani.*

*Jani lets out a roar of anger before grabbing Finitevus by his dreadlocks, pulling him back, and delivering a punch to his face again... And again... And again... She then kicked him on the chest before slamming a fist right onto his head. Jani then lifted Finitevus and tossed him to some debris, leaving it cracked.*

*Manik and Mina stare on, but didn't want to interfere. Jani was clearly beyond reasoning with.*

Finitevus: "Rgh..." *Shakes off his dazed state before looking up in horror to see Jani standing over him.*

*Just as Jani was about to end Finitevus, a gunshot is heard and the Echidna is shot in the face, much to Mina and Manik's horror. Finitevus takes advantage of this and opens a Warp Ring behind him to make his escape. Manik tries to catch him, but instead diverts to catch Jani instead.*

Outside of Albion

*Hidden behind some brush, the gleam of a sniper rifle could be seen as Nack smirks to himself.*

Nack: "Heh. Serves you right for trying to pin me down, Echidna babe. Nobody can stop the Weasel. And doc, consider that the end of our business." *Holsters his sniper as he leaves the area.*

Albion

*Kingdom of Acorn ambulance, authorized by the King and Princess after hearing from Manik, arrived on the scene and picked up Jani to escort her to the hospital, along with any other injured civilians. Knuckles was with them as an escort, but was left horrified by how many Echidna were left.*

Peza: "I...did a head count of all Echidna remaining... Out of the whole city's worth, a population of at least seven hundred... Only twenty eight Echidna were able to make it out alive..."

Knuckles: "...T-...Twenty...eight...?" *Leans against some rubble to support himself as the news was far too much for him to bear.*

Peza: "I...I need to go..." *Steps back a bit before leaving Knuckles alone, unsure of what to do or say.*

*Vector and the Chaotix are interrogating Manik and Mina over their involvement with Finitevus, especially after hearing that they basically got him the Master Emerald.*

Manik: "It's true... Me and Mina distracted Knuckles while Nack stole the Master Emerald... I let my own jealousy of Sonic taking guys like Tails and Knuckles on adventures and...I let that weakness consume me... Mina ended up corrupted against her will so she is more innocent of this..."

Mina: "Oh shut up, Manik. I'd rather go down with you than just let you shoulder all the blame... A lot of lives were taken today... I couldn't sleep on that..."

Espio: "So what convinced you to help us out?"

Manik: "...A lot... I...hospitalized my sis... Thread then showed up on the island and convinced me to come here..."

*Espio's eyes widened at this, he then glares before tapping Charmy and silently requesting they leave.*

Charmy: "Um... We'll be back Vector." *He and Espio leave.*

Vector: *Looks on at Espio before turning his attention back to Manik and Mina.* "Alright you two. You'll be sent back to the Kingdom of Acorn. Whatever trial you face will be up to them, but you two are in a lot of trouble..."

Manik: "...Yes, sir... We understand..." *Lowers his head, guilty over everything that happened.* "Do you...mind if I talk to Knuckles before anything? I...want to apologize to him the most..."

*Vector doesn't stop Manik, allowing the green hedgehog to hesitantly approach Knuckles.*

Manik: "Um... Hey, Knuckles... I..." *Holds his arm before sighing softly.* "I'm sorry...about everything... I...let things get too far and... I'd rather not let it hang above me... You don't have to forgive me... I certainly don't, but..."

Knuckles: "...Manik. I came to tell you that Sonia managed to get to the hospital in time. She'll likely make a full recovery within a week or so. So don't apologize to me... You apologize to her..." *Crosses his arms before turning away.* "Now...if you'll excuse me... I have to get my Emerald back and determine what I can do for the rest of my people." *Leaves Manik, eyes under shadows.*

*Manik says nothing, simply lowering his head.*

Unknown Location

*On some kind of beach, a Warp Ring opens as Finitevus comes out, spitting out sand after landing there. With a growl, he tries to stand but is soon confronted by a tall individual.*

Voice: "My, who do we have here? And here I thought I couldn't enjoy my vacation anymore than now."

*Finitevus looks up and realizes, to his horror, that he was confronted by... Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik.*
