Disclaimer: I do not own Devil May Cry or Percy Jackson and the Olympians. I only own the OC Damian Redgrave.
"We may need to find a new way of getting to LA since we have knocked out our drivers." Percy said as they walked down a street in Las Vegas.
"True. We have six days left until the solstice right?" Damian asked.
"That's right." Annabeth said. "We are making good time."
"So where in Vegas have we even ended up exactly?" Percy asked, getting shrugs from the others.
"Not like we have ever been here, Percy," Damian said, getting a sheepish smile from the boy.
"We may as well take a look around why we our here," Annabeth said as the group began to walk around Vegas.
They passed the Monte Carlo and the MGM. The pyramids, a pirate ship, and the Statue of Liberty, which was a pretty small replica, but still made Percy homesick.
The group didn't really know what to look for. Maybe just a place to get out of the heat and cool down with a nice glass of lemonade and a good sandwich, anything really.
They must have taken a wrong turn or something, because they were at a dead end, standing in front of the Lotus Hotel and Casino.
The entrance was a huge neon flower, the petals lighting up and blinking. No one was going in or out, but the glittering chrome doors were open, spilling out air-conditioning that smelled like flowers – lotus blossom, maybe.
The doorman smiled at them. "Hey, kids. You look tired. You want to come in and sit down?"
Damian was instantly suspicious, and Percy shared the same sentiment. Anybody might be a monster or god in disguise. You just couldn't tell. But this guy was normal. One look at him, and they could see. But for some reason, Damian was feeling a sense of security from the man. This immediately put him on edge. Maybe it was some magic that quickly convinced him easily. Inside, the group took one look around, and Grover said, "Whoa."
The whole lobby was a giant game room. There was an indoor waterslide snaking around the glass elevator, which went straight up at least forty floors. There was a climbing wall on the side of one of the buildings, and an indoor bungee-jumping bridge. There was some virtual reality suits with working laser guns. And hundreds of video games, each one the size of a widescreen TV. Basically, you name it, this place. There were a few kids playing, but not that many. No waiting for any games. There were waitresses and snack bars all around, serving every kind of food you can imagine.
"Hey!" a bellhop said. He wore a white-and-yellow Hawaiian shirt with lotus designs, shorts, and flip-flops. "Welcome to the Lotus Casino. Here's your room key."
Percy stammered, "Um, but…"
"Wait," Damian interjected. "This is a mistake…"
The bellhop blinked, as if the idea of a mistake didn't register with him. "Mistake? Oh no, we have your room key and your room ready for you. The bill's been taken care of. No extra charges, no tips. Just go up on the top floor, room 4001. If you need anything, like extra bubbles for the hot tub, or skeet targets for the shooting range, or whatever, just call the front desk. Here are your LotusCash cards. They work in the restaurants and on all the games and rides."
He handed them each a green plastic credit card.
Percy knew there must be some mistake. Obviously he thought they were some millionaire's kids. He took the card and said, "How much is on here?"
His eyebrows knitted together. "What do you mean?"
"I mean, when does it run out of cash?"
He laughed. "Oh, you're making a joke. Hey, that's cool. Enjoy your stay."
They took the elevator upstairs and checked out the room. It was a suite with four separate bedrooms and a bar stocked with candy, sodas, and chips. A hotline to room service. Fluffy towels and water beds with feather pillows. A big screen TV with satellite and high-speed Internet. The balcony had its own hot tub, and sure enough, there was a skeet-shooting machine and a shotgun, so you could launch clay pigeons right out over the Las Vegas skyline and plug them with your gun. Percy didn't know how that could be legal, but he thought it was pretty cool. The view over the Strip and the desert was amazing, but with a room like this, why bother looking?
"Oh, goodness," Annabeth said. "This place is..."
"Sweet," Grover said. "Absolutely sweet."
"Dibs on the shower," Damian stated before anyone else, and dashed to the bathroom.
There were clothes in the closet, and they fit them. Damian found that strange, but quickly forgot about that in favour of taking a shower.
Percy threw Ares's backpack in the trashcan. Wouldn't need that anymore. When they left, he could just charge a new now at the hotel store.
A few minutes later, Damian walked out the bathroom, dressed in his clothes and looking fresh and clean.
"That's better." Damian said with relief. "Hated smelling like a dump. Shower's free if anyone wants it."
The others took turns with the shower, Annabeth went next, then Percy, then Grover. All were freshly cleaned and washed now.
Right now, Grover was eating potato chips to his heart's content, while Annabeth cranked up the National Geographic Channel. Damian was arguing with her to change it to something interesting.
"All those stations," Percy told the blonde, "and you turn on National Geographic. Are you insane?"
"It's interesting," the girl countered.
"It's boring," Damian said.
"I feel good," Grover said. "I love this place."
Without his even realizing it, the wings sprouted out of his shoes and lifted him a foot off the ground, then back down again.
"So what now?" Annabeth asked. "Sleep?"
Grover, Percy and Damian looked at each other and grinned. They held up their green plastic LotusCash cards.
"Play time," both Damian and Percy declared.
Percy bungee-jumped the lobby five or six times, did the waterslide, snowboarded the artificial ski slope, and played virtual-reality laser tag and FBI sharpshooter.
Grover was going from game to game. He really liked the reverse hunter thing – where the deer go out and shoot the rednecks.
Annabeth played trivia games and other smart stuff. They had this huge 3-D simulator game where you build your own city, and you could actually see the holographic buildings rise on the display board.
Damian was walking around, going from game to game, while also reading a comic book. Well, not a comic book. Something called manga. Apparently it was a Japanese comic book with subtitles. Damian saw a couple lying on a desk near a game console, and decided to read some out of curiosity. Needless to say, he was hooked.
Now he was reading one called 'One Piece'. It was about a pirate who has rubber powers, and he goes on all sorts of adventures with his friends in pursuit of the One Piece, the greatest treasure in the world. Damian really enjoyed reading it.
He was reading ahead, looking at the part where some guy called 'Whitebeard' fought some guys at some place called 'Marineford'. Damian particularly found Whitebeard to be badass. Especially his power to cause earthquakes.
He suddenly someone bump into him, causing him to drop his manga. "Ow." Was the only thing that the person who ran into him could say.
When he looked up at the person who bumped into him, he saw it was a little boy, a few years younger than him. He had dark hair and black eyes with an olive tone. He wore a pair of black shorts and a grey T-shirt. He was currently on his bum, rubbing his head.
Damian reached his hand out, helping the boy up. "Uh, sorry about that," Damian apologized. "I didn't look where I was going. You okay?"
The small boy nodded. "Yeah. It's okay. I was running around and not looking where I was going. Sorry."
While Damian was annoyed at being interrupted reading his manga, he didn't want to take it out on the kid. So, he ruffled his hair, getting him to grumble a bit at that. "S'okay, man. I don't blame you. So, what were you running for?"
"I was trying to find my sister, Bianca," the boy said. Then he paled, contrasting with his skin tone. "Oh, man. If she finds me, I'm –"
"Nico di Angelo!"
The shout came from behind the little boy, now named Nico, who jumped a little in fright. He shakily turned to behind him, Damian doing so also. Stomping towards them was a girl about his height, with black eyes and long silky dark hair with a splash of freckles. Her features were very like Nico, confirming that she was his sister. She wore a black turtleneck, a pair of jeans and a floppy green hat.
Right now, however, she had an angry expression as she stamped towards her brother, who was cowering slightly. Damian couldn't blame him. His sister seemed slightly scary.
"Watch where you're going." She scolded before turning to him. "I am so sorry, my brother, he's really energetic."
"It's okay," Damian waved off. "It's my fault also. I wasn't looking where I was going."
"Nevertheless, I'm so sorry." Then he turned to her brother. "Nico, apologize."
"But I did," Nico whined. But he still wilted under her glare.
Deciding to save the kid, Damian interjected. "No, he did, really."
"Oh, okay then," Bianca said, now smiling. Damian was baffled.
'Is she bipolar or something?' He wondered.
Deciding to introduce himself, Damian held out his hand. "I'm Damian, by the way." He bent down to pick up his manga, and noticed some cards that were dropped. "Uh, are those yours?" he asked, picking some of them up. He saw some Greek gods printed on them.
"Mythomagic," Nico explained excitedly. His eyes shone with childish excitement. "It's only the best game out there. It's about all the Greek gods and monsters and stuff."
"Nico," Bianca groaned. "No one cares about your stupid card game."
"Actually, I'm kind of interested," Damian said, amused. The irony of it all. The Greek gods were alive, as well as all the monsters, and this kid had a card game based on it all? Now he had to see it. "I've got some Greek roots myself."
"Really?" he asked, excited.
"Yep!"
"That's so cool! I've got Zeus, who does six hundred damage points with his lightning bolt. He comes in every starter pack. Now Hades, man, that thing is impossible to find." The boy pouted.
"You mind explaining to me about all this stuff?" Damian asked.
"Sure!" he seemed excited at the prospect. Then he began his tirade on each card, like Apollo, or Hermes, and so on.
While he was chattering, Bianca now talked to Damian, Nico being distracted. "Thanks for humouring him," she said, relieved. "I love him, but he's just so…"
"I see," Damian said, amused. "Don't worry though, I actually was serious about being Greek. Just wanted to see what he was so hyped about. Besides, he seems okay."
"I guess." From Bianca's tone, she seemed to disagree.
Damian raised an eyebrow. "You don't agree?"
Bianca shook her head. "No, no, no. I love Nico to death, honestly. It's just… since we've been together for so long, I've been the one to take care of him. I love doing it. But…"
"You're tired of the responsibility?" Damian guessed.
"Yeah," she said, nodding. "I'm just so tired of it all. It's such a pain dealing with a younger brother."
"I wouldn't know myself, I have a... lot of older sisters though." Damian said, thinking about the Hunters, who he's never met but he does consider them sisters since his mother considers them as her daughters.
Bianca let out a whistle. "You must feel pretty overwhelmed with that many sisters." Damian just shrugged in response, not giving an answer.
A waitress came over to drop off some food. It was pizza and some drinks. Markus instantly took the pizza and munched on it.
Nico was done talking about his game, but he was still bouncing up and down, full of restless energy.
"Hey Nico." Damian said, getting the kid's attention. "You wouldn't happen to have one of those Mythomagic cards of Artemis, would you?"
After a couple of seconds of searching, Nico pulled a card out and handed it to Damian. "Here you go."
Damian looked it over. The card was of a woman with auburn colored hair that went halfway down her back and was wearing some sort of silver crown on her head. She was wearing some sort of toga like dress that stopped just above her knees and was barefoot. She was wielding a bow in her hands and there was a picture of a stag behind her with golden antelors.
Damian smiled as he looked at the picture. 'I wonder if this is what Mom really looks like.' he thought to himself.
"Why Artemis?" Bianca asked. "i mean, isn't she like... against men?"
"Um... I guess you could say she is my favourite of the Greek gods. She seems like she can kick all kinds of butt." Damian said, he couldn't exactly tell them his mother was Artemis. "Anyway, I better go. Got to find my own friends. It was nice chatting with you, Bianca."
"You too, Damian." Bianca smiled at him and watched him leave.
"He seemed nice." Nico said.
"Yeah... he is," Bianca said with a smile and a blush.
Meanwhile, Damian walked until he paused at the sight of a room with a lot of the more adult residents of the hotel in the casino part of the hotel.
A grin worked it's way onto Damian's face. "Time to see if I have the Devil's luck." He said before walking towards the room.
An hour later, Damian walked out the gambling room with a briefcase containing 2.5 million dollars in cash. He really had the Devil's luck as he swindled a lot out of their oney and won a lot for himself.
"Dad will be so jealous." Damian chuckled as he looked at the money. "Got a lot here for... who knows what, but like hell am I spending it-"
"Damian." A voice spoke in his head, causing him to pause and look around. "Damian, you must get out of the casino. Remember your quest, do not be fooled by the hotel's tricks any longer."
it hit Damian like a sledgehammer falling onto his face. "Shit!" He cursed to himself. as he ran to look for the others, running into Percy. "Percy-"
"This place is-"
"-tricking us!" Both said at the same time. "What?"
"You hear a voice too?" Damian asked.
Percy nodded. "Yeah, i think it was my dad."
"I think I heard my mom." Damian nodded. "We need to get out of here, we've been so caught up that we have World War 3 on the brink. Let's find the others!"
They managed to find Annabeth and Grover, then escape the hotel, Damian still holding the briefcase with 2.5 million dollars. Damian saw a discarded newspaper and picked it up, looking for the date.
"Shit!" He cursed when he saw it and the others came up to see the date.
It read June twentieth.
The others gasped and held their heads in realization "We were in there for five days. That means...," Percy started before Annabeth interrupted him and looked at them gravely.
"Tomorrow is the Summer Solstice. We have one day left. If we don't make it, then the gods will be at war."
Damian took a long deep breath as he went by the side of the road and whistled. When he did a taxi pulled up right in front of them. "I always wanted to try that." He said causing the others to roll their eyes before they began to pile into the taxi.
"Los Angeles please," Annabeth said as she got in.
The cabbie chewed his cigar and sized us up. "That's three hundred miles. For that, you got to pay up front."
"You accept casino debit cards?" Annabeth asked.
He shrugged. "Some of them. Same as credit cards mostly. I have to swipe it through first."
Annabeth handed him her green Lotus Cash card. The man looked at it a little hesitantly before shrugging and swiping it through his machine.
His meter machine started rattling and before long the lights flashed. Finally an infinity symbol came up next to the dollar sign.
The man whistled before he looked at Annabeth. "Where to your highness?" He asked in a polite tone which caused Annabeth to sit up straight. Damian guessed she liked being called 'your highness.'
"Los Angeles," she said as the cab driver nodded before he began driving.
As soon as they began driving off they took one last look at the Lotus Hotel and Casino.
"I have not had that much fun in so long." Percy said sighing as the others nodded.
"I got to shoot red necks." Grover muttered with a wistful smile. He obviously had a lot of fun too, even if it did cost them five days.
"I built cities." Annabeth said, referring to her Sims game she was obsessed with. No doubt that what she wanted to do in the future.
"I won 2.5 million dollars." Damian said, nodding his head before he noticed it went quiet. He looked up to see everyone. including the cab driver, looking at him with gobsmacked looks on their face. Damian never ceased to amaze them.
"What?"
And that's it for this chapter everyone. I hope you all enjoyed it.
