Chapter 2

COMFORT AND DETERMINATION

Daenerys needed to see her children alive and breathing to confirm that what she saw was just a dream. She needed to fly in Drogon to clear her head and put things in perspective.

She got up and ventured outside of her chambers and came face to face with two unsullied soldiers. They were protecting her. They gave her everything and believed in her and she broke their faith. She led them to their death for ungrateful and entitled people. She betrayed them. What would have happened to them after she died? The masters would have taken them as slaves again. Essos would have become the slave centre again and dragons bay would have become slavers bay again and she would have made it happen. She needed to be alive at least for her people and for her children.

She told the unsullied soldiers to not follow her and went to her children's nest. Drogon woke up from his sleep, sensing her. Both Rhaegal and Viserion opened their eyes and then immediately went back to sleep again knowing that she did not need them now.

Drogon, her mighty and strong child was the only family and companion she had left after she lost everything. Sensing her need to fly he offered his majestic wing for her to climb. After she settled in his back he took off into the sky. The sun was starting to rise.

The moment she was on the air, she felt so much better. She felt free of her troubles, both the old and the new ones. She just let herself enjoy the moment for some time before she needed to analyze the dreams in detail and come up with ways to keep herself alive.

She concentrated on her bond with Drogon and felt it was stronger than before. Maybe he knew too. Maybe he saw it too. Maybe she is more connected with Drogon than she thought. Both as a mother and as a rider. She thought dragons were invincible and she never tried to get to know their weaknesses. But she will change that from now on and will spend more time getting to know her children so that she can lessen their weak points.

She thought that she doesn't need to know how to wield a sword or need to learn any other skills as long as she has her dragons. She was so wrong. Her children make her and made her stronger, of course. But she also needs to be strong so that her children can be less vulnerable. So that she can protect them. She will learn everything that is there to learn if that is going to help her protect her people and her children.

After some more time of flying she went back to the dragon's nest and landed Drogon near Rhaegar and Viserion who were now wide awake. She came down from Drogon and nuzzled Viserion's snout and murmured sweet words in High Valyrian. She told him that she missed him and will never hurt him again and will protect him from all evil. She did the same to Rhaegal and swore that she will destroy anybody who dares to hurt him.

Then she sat in the field where they burnt their prey to eat, surrounded by her children in search of comfort. She felt so devastated whenever she thought of how she burnt innocents in King's Landing. She blamed it all on others. Her advisors, the Starks and the north, Varys, and Jon. But she was the one who chose to burn them. She was the one who betrayed her the most. she should have tried to understand Tyrion's reluctance in hurting his family. But she didn't and thought that she would be okay with it, because he chose her knowing the consequences. She should have understood the need for the northerner's independence when all she talked about in Essos was freedom. But she didn't. she should have understood what the revelation did to Jon and should have tried to reassure him. But she didn't. All she thought was how that would affect her. All she thought was her supposed destiny of ruling seven kingdoms and her family's legacy. All she thought was how Tyrion should only advise her and think of his family when he chose her. She still did not know what to think of Varys. He betrayed her even before she burnt King's Landing.

She rested her head on Drogon's side and exhaled loudly. But they are also at fault. Tyrion should have talked to her about his hesitation and reluctance in hurting his family. She might have listened at least to Ser Jaime's part if not Cersei's.

They should have realized that I am just grieving for my people and friends instead of assuming that I am going mad. Jon should have talked to her about his state instead of hiding and avoiding her all the time. What was she supposed to think? She was raised a Targaryen and thought of their relationship as nothing but perfect. She did not know that he was affected by the fact that she was his aunt. She neglected his feelings and he neglected her feelings. They ended up miserable and in the end she was dead.

But she could not blame him even if she wanted to. She thinks that he did the right thing, not the honorable thing, but the right thing. He was true to his father's word to the last. At least who he considered his father. She burnt thousands of people and was planning to burn more if they disobeyed her. He definitely did the right thing. But she will not go down that path again. She will not love him like that. That love she had for him made her crazy. It made her mad. It made her blind. The love she had for him made her neglect the people who believed in her and made her do anything and everything so that his people would see her for what she was. She will not love him that way and she will not consider him family as well if that is what he wants. She will not call him a Targaryen if that is what he wants.

She will rectify every mistake she made in her vision this time and she will not let her people die in vain. She will not give up on her allies. She will not let anyone hurt her children. She will not let Missandei or Jorah die this time. She will not go mad and burn people. She will not be her mad father's daughter. She will not be a queen if the people of Westeros don't want her to be. She will not demand them to bend the knee if they don't want to bend the knee. She will never ever become a tyrant who burns people if they disobey her.

All she wanted was a home where she can be safe, where her children can be safe, where her people can thrive.

If Westeros is not her home, then she will make herself a home where her people will be safe and content. Just like how she made herself a family.

She steeled herself for the next moons that was to come and stood up from the ground. She walked back to her chambers to get ready so that she could greet the guests that were about to arrive. She had a lot of planning to do. She has a lot of people she needs to talk to. She needed to decide.

The sun rose above the sea and shone so bright and red.
