Morning!

6:32 a.m.
"Damn, that took forever," my partner complains as soon as I step out. I roll my eyes, pulling the lid off my coffee to take a swig. It's still too hot, but I love it that way.
"It's insane. They must be training the new barista."
Emmett smirks. "Yet another reason not to drink coffee," he says, his voice haughty. I ignore him. Just because he doesn't have the stomach for the good stuff…
"You ready to head in?"
I look up at him and nod, moving around to the squad card he's leaning against. I get in behind the wheel while he climbs in on the passenger's side. "Man, I can't wait for a night off," he sighs, leaning his head back against the headrest as soon as I start the car. I glance over at him.
"Big plans?"
He smirks. "Hell yeah, are you kidding? Rosie's taking the night off too. I'm planning on not surfacing until Monday."
I roll my eyes as I pull into traffic.
"Ever the romantic," I say dryly. He snorts. We both know Emmett is probably the most romantic person on the planet. I'd be annoying to hear about constantly if I didn't know he truly meant every word of it. His girlfriend Rose is the most doted-on woman in all of Seattle.
"What about you? When are you taking a night off?"
I frown at him, shaking my head. "When there is something worth taking a night off for."
He smirks but thankfully drops it.
The morning commute is hell, but for at least half of it back to the station, we're headed away from downtown, which means against traffic. By the time we pull in, my coffee is downed, and I'm itching to tear into my muffin.
"Come on, man," Emmett says, climbing out of the squad car. "The sooner we get out of here, the better."
I nod in agreement and follow him out. Only a few more minutes left on duty and then I can head home and crash.
I can't fucking wait.
