I hope you all enjoy this chapter- in which Percy and Piper kinda forget about the strange bag and I find that idea hilarious. Percy just unknowingly sleeping over two of the most powerful weapons ever made and not even being aware of it.
Replies:
Thickneck: Yes, yes she does. And she has no clue lol.
Noir Nyan: Who says there's gonna be a prophecy?
Trzyglow: Yes. Yes she did. And she has no freaking idea. Which makes the next chapters funnier.
Guest: Believe it or not I have considered that possibility.
Ryan Fowler: An all out fight? Percy. Luke wouldn't stand a chance.
Undeath9087: I am aware of the irony of it lol. Percy's just gonna be there like 'It always has to be me huh.'
Drizzle: Well she stole from the thief.
Rage2091: Forget. She will forget. For months.
Guest: No, that was just her dreams not the actual Oracle, her dreams telling her she needed to do something. The first official deity won't be met for a few chapters yet. And yes, literally no one will be able to figure out where it is. Which is not a good thing for Luke lol.
Jubby1905: Hehehehe. I'm not sure about pass out, but have a break down maybe.
Guest: They were lucky, he was surprised, winded from being knocked over and also know the city better.
MKDemiGodzilla-Warrior: It will be very different- the quest might be a bit easier honestly but it ends quite painfully.
JjlovesPJO: I know lol! But uh, who says she'll have to?
It didn't take long for the two girls to pull themselves together for long enough to get down off the roof and back into Percy's room, both of them tumbling onto Percy's bed- though not before Percy tossed the backpack under her bed.
She'd deal with that later.
"Holy Ra that was pretty crazy."
"You don't say." Piper's laugh was breathless, and Percy turned her head as she felt her bed shifting and saw Piper turning so that she was led on her side, elbow digging into the mattress as she propped up her head. "What do we do about the creepy backpack?"
"I dunno." Percy gave a small shrug, "My dream didn't tell me what to do with it." she pointed out, "Just to hide it so I guess maybe we can look in it the morning." she suggested, "Because I am too beat to care about that right now. Whatever it is it can wait."
"We did run a long way." Piper laughed, shaking her head, "I'm definitely still not used to stuff like that and if the dream didn't say you had to do something with it right away I guess waiting a couple of hours wouldn't hur." she flopped back, closing her eyes, and there was a long silence before "Percy... I was scared out of my mind that he was going to hurt one of us. Like- that was so much worse than any of the monster attacks. I dunno why but it was just so much more terrifying." Piper's voice was almost a whisper when she admitted that.
"It can be like that." Percy told her friend, kicking off her shoes, sending them flying across the room. "I guess even with the monsters and stuff coming after you sometimes you aren't used to stuff like this." Percy was shaking her head, "But honestly Piper, you were awesome." she told her friend firmly, "Like, amazingly badass."
"Why thank you." Piper grinned proudly at that, trying to stifle a yawn.
"C'mon." Percy flopped back, "Let's try and get some sleep before the morning."
"Of course." Piper nodded, "Try not to have any more dreams okay?" her voice was teasing, "Because if you wake me up by falling out of bed again I am gonna kick your butt. I don't care about beauty sleep but I do care about not being exhausted in the morning."
"Hah." Percy grinned, "I'd like to see you try and kick my butt." she shot back, shifting so that she was under her sheets, closing her eyes.
And within ten minutes both of the girls were fast asleep-and, thankfully Percy's sleep was dreamless.
It was also incredibly deep- which probably made sense given how late it had been by the time she actually got to bed, but it did mean that she didn't wake up until midday the next day- when Carter burst into Percy's room when they didn't wake up from his knocking.
Because of their long lie in they had to rush to get ready to leave- finishing their packing- and the backpack that had been so hastily pushed under Percy's bed was completely forgotten.
And soon enough the two girls had their bags ready- and thankfully it had been over twelve hours since Piper and Percy's return from Manhattan- or they'd have had to answer some rather awkward questions as to why the Sphinx wasn't able to work- but the twelve hour cool down period had passed and no one was any the wiser.
The only thing that was even remotely strange was the weather- there hadn't been any storms forecast and yet they were raging in the sky above them, thunder rumbling as if the sky itself was angry and lashing out.
But strange weather wasn't the end of the world, and the Kanes and company portalled directly to the First Nome with no issues. And Percy felt Piper's grip on her hand tightening as she looked around, a smile playing across her lips.
Piper always looked so excited whenever she visited the First Nome, even after so long being around other magicians. Especially since the Kane's always got a lot of attention- after all they were essentially the Royal family of the House of Life, even if they didn't usually think of themselves like that.
And that was evident as they walked through the Halls of the House of Life, Sally holding Alexander and Estelle by the hand- people turned and watched- some of them calling out to the family, offering free samples-which of course they always insisted on paying for- if they had the money it wouldn't be right to just take- Percy had been taught that a long time ago.
It didn't take them long to reach the Hall of Ages-where Amos was waiting for them, glad in his usual red clothing with his leopard skin cloak talking to- Percy lit up. It was Desjardins- Percy hadn't been expecting him, and she let go of Piper's hand, waving brightly as she rushed up the hall, Sadie and Carter close behind her.
"Uncle Amos!" Percy called, "Desjardins!"
And both men turned to look, Amos smiling widely at the three excited teens- or in Percy's case pre teen. "Children! It seems you've all made it whole and healthy."
"Of course." Percy declared brightly, "We're not that disaster prone uncle Amos." she reached the man first-and he folded his arms around her.
"Oh really?" Amos chuckled, "I heard last month you fought off some Laistrygonian Giants?"
"Uh-" Percy gave a sheepish grin, "They sniffed out Piper, wanted to eat her. You know, the usual. It wasn't a big deal no matter what the others say. It literally took me less than ten minutes to kick their asses, and Piper just told them to stop and they did so it's not like they were even a real threat."
"Nothing you couldn't handle." Amos' lips twitched fondly and he pulled away from her to pull Carter and Sadie into hugs, and Percy turned to look at Desjardins, who had his usual stern look on his face, though there was a slight sparkle in his eyes- over the years Percy had gotten better at telling when he was in a good mood or not. And there was a softer side to him.
"Miss Kane." he greeted formally, and Percy grinned widely at him.
"Michel." she ducked the light hearted little swat that he aimed at the back of her head. "You manage to clean up after Piper and I's last visit to Paris-"
"Only just." he gave a mock disapproving look, "I believe Pierre may always have the scar on his leg."
"In Piper's defence he was being super pushy and he wouldn't let go of my wrist."
"I'm still not sorry."
That came from Piper, who jogged to Percy's side quickly, grabbing her hand- and Percy grinned at her friend.
"Well-"
Desjardin's lips twitched very slightly, "I'm sure he's learned the error of his ways now."
"Oh come on-" that came from Sadie, "The rest of us can't speak French you losers. And Alexander and Estelle can barely even speak English! Have some pity on us."
"'U'ca Amos!" and that came from little Alex-and Percy turned her head as her baby brother pulled free from their moms hand and did his little waddling run to Amos- who crouched down with a huge grin on his lips, scooping up the little boy and flipping him instantly- which made Alex shriek with laughter as he hung upside down, waving his pudgy arms excitedly.
"That's my troublemaker." Amos declared brightly before flipping him back up, holding him, one arm supporting his butt as Alex grabbed onto Amos' shirt tightly. Then Amos' gaze shifted to Estelle, "And what about my little angel?" and Estelle pulled away from Sally too, giggling as she also rushed to Amos, who scooped her up with his free arm, clutching her tight as he pulled her to his chest.
"Un'ca Amos." Estelle beamed happily, "Momma says we getting' a sleepover."
"A sleepover?" Amos pretended to look confused, "Hm, well I'm not sure about that-" he said mock playfully- which made Alex pout.
"Sleepover!" he squealed the word, "Sleepover please!"
"And how about a super long sleep over?" Amos asked with a grin, "For a whole week-"
"Week!" Alex shrieked the word. "WEEK momma! Week?"
"Yep my baby boy." Sally laughed, "A whole week here, doesn't that sound fun." and it did- the twins knew that pretty much everybody in the First Nome doted on them- sure they didn't know why, but they definitely knew that they would get lots of little presents and treats whenever they wandered through the markets.
After all, these days most of the people in the First Nome were loyal to the Kanes- none of those who disliked them had stayed in the seat of the Kanes power- that would be foolish to the highest degree. Which meant that everyone there loved them- and they understood just what the Kanes had done for them and by spoiling the twins- it was their way of saying thank you.
And the twins excitement was infectious.
And the week was amazing- Percy spent much of it dragging Piper around Egypt, every time they visited Percy found something new to show her- and Piper was always happy with the exploring- she often commented on how it was one of her favorite things about Percy- the way that one second she'd be gushing over pretty dresses and things and the next moment she'd be excitedly dragging Piper through archaeological digs and ruins.
The only day that the two girls didn't spend exploring was Christmas day- which was spent with the eight Kanes, Zia, Walt and Piper spending the day together.
The Kanes hadn't truly had a big Christmas celebration since they'd became a real family- they'd have a nice meal and give presents on the day- but that was about all- it was a strange feeling- every year it was strange, even three years after the disaster at the British Museum.
Still, they all enjoyed it- especially when Bast showed up and they visited the Duat- Alex and Estelle got incredibly excited at the sight of their daddy- and Piper as usual was in awe of the fact that they were able to visit the Underworld.
Percy even got to introduce her friend to Bes and Tawaret- and their babies, since the three Kanes plus Zia and Walt all wanted to visit their friends and Piper came with them.
Truthfully when they all had to return home they were a little bit disappointed.
Though the disappointment didn't last long, not for Piper anyway- and Percy was happy for her best friends sake- because the day after they returned home Sally got a call from Tristan- who had managed to get away from his latest movie shoot for a few days-and Piper had been over the moon to get to spend a few days with her dad, though Percy knew that it didn't erase the pain of the fact he missed Christmas-that was something Sally had talked to Tristan about a lot. He did love his daughter, but he was desperate- he'd been so used to being poor that now that their fortunes were changing he was terrified of what might happen if suddenly he couldn't get the work- and he was working more because of that fear. Which led to him not being there for Piper.
And he didn't know how to handle that either, so he was buying her lavish presents- which was nice and- he was trying to compensate for the years when he hadn't been able to- for his own childhood but it didn't work.
Still, when Piper came back from seeing her dad for a few days she was happy- because she had gotten to at least spend some time with him- and as she'd told Percy in confidence, at least she wasn't alone. Even if her dad didn't have much time for her she had a home, she had friends.
And Percy would never be too busy for Piper- even when she told her friend she was taking the part that had been offered in the movie about the Greek Princess.
And so, with everything that happened, the two girls completely forgot the backpack tucked under Percy's bed.
