The two boys sat next to him, the green one looking at him intently. Before he grinned, a large predatory smile that was akin to Bakugo's.
"Names Togaru Kamakiri, and this is my best friend, Tsuburaba."
"Ahah hi, I'm Izuku M-M-Midoriya."
Just before the two boys could add anything on, more students began filing in. One of them was a short girl with long moss green hair and a perpetual fanged smirk, she walked in next to a boy who was animatedly talking. His silver hair was long and spiky and seemed to be solid with how little it moved and thickening bushy eyelashes.
Izuku, now ignored, the other two boys made their way to the new entries and began having a conversation. The animated boy threw himself vehemently into the conversation. Izuku decided to sink himself into his notebook as more and more of the students filed in. One had literal black skin and another had a head that looked like some type of dispenser. Not really paying any attention after that, he began sketching a brief outline of the class, making sure to leave the names for his classmates empty. That would come in handy later.
A presence from behind him brought him out of his stupor and he went still and pale, and turned towards the imposing shadow. Standing over his shoulder with a wide grin was Rumi. Her lengthy canines made her grin look feral.
"Looks like you passed with flying colors, Midoriya!"
"Y-yeah! I'm uh… I'm glad you passed too, Usagiyama!"
She raised an eyebrow, her smile dimming somewhat, "What's the deal?"
"T-t-the deal?"
Izuku could feel the entire class's eyes on him. His shoulders felt heavy like someone was trying to push him down and grind him into dust. The door slammed open, saving the boy from the glare of Rumi, and the prying eyes and ears of the other classmates.
Stepping over the threshold was a massive man. His posture was tall and intimidating, a mixture between a sneer and a smirk danced across his lips as he looked over the twenty students in the class. This was their teacher, the pro hero Vlad King. Even though he knew that pro heroes worked here, especially this one, he was still amazed that he was the one to be his homeroom teacher. I mean, how could he be so lucky as to have someone in the the top fifty heroes be his-
He was pinched, and saw a disembodied hand reconnect to the girl next to him. His eyes were wide with wonder.
The girl grinned at him, "You were muttering up a storm, celery stick."
"Celery stick?"
Her grin only got wider.
The man at the front cleared his throat, "Midoriya, Tokage. If you two are here to socialize, I'm afraid you applied to the wrong hero course."
Izuku went beet red, "Sorry sensei!"
Vlad King nodded, and looked around the room. His crimson eyes scanned everyone in the room from behind the golden visor. Eventually they landed on him, and his eyes narrowed even more before he let himself relax. Though he didn't smile either.
"I am Vlad King, here at school you will refer to me as Kan-sensei. I am your homeroom teacher for the next three years. I expect great things from all of you." The man closed his eyes, "Today we will be doing something that my counterpart from 1-A suggested to get a better read on your abilities. Something he called the Quirk Apprehension Test. So get on your gym uniforms, we will be heading outside. Any questions?"
A girl with long white hair tied into a bun raised her hand.
"Kan-sensei, what about orientation?"
Kan smirked, "Entirely optional. Our curriculum is teacher based anyway. Any others?" No one else raised their hands and his smirk disappeared, replaced by his serious persona, "Get dressed, and meet me outside in twenty minutes."
Kan then walked out the door, leaving the rest of the students to flounder to get ready.
Sekijiro Kan stared at the twenty students gathered around him. He felt bad about what was going to happen next, but he needed the kids to take this seriously. Aizawa said this was the best way to light a figurative fire under them, and loathe as he is to admit it, the man was a competent teacher.
Without giving away his internal musings he looked at one student in particular. Izuku Midoriya. The boy was not what he was expecting at all, he was a nervous wreck. Now, looks could be deceiving but he could not imagine this being the powerhouse who scored first in the entrance exam. Only one way to find out. With the "rational deception", as he put it.
Back with Izuku he was feeling the burning stare of Rumi and Kan. Causing him to shrivel back into himself. Kan stepped forward, and grinned slightly.
"This is the Quirk Apprehension Test. Your future and career as heroes are on the line here." The man got a dangerous energy about him as his eyes narrowed, and he growled, "Whoever gets in last place will be expelled." His energy changed again, "Midoriya. You got first on the exam. What was your ball throw in middle school?"
Izuku blushed, "Uh… 40 meters, I think?"
He threw the ball at him, which Izuku fumbled with but managed to catch.
"Good, now use your quirk. You can do whatever you want, just don't leave the circle."
Izuku nodded and walked into the circle. He had to figure out how he wanted to do this. To an outside perspective, his entire demeanor changed. He went from being a jumpy kid to standing tall and striding with purpose. He casually tossed the ball in his hand before he grinned.
"Anything goes?"
"Correct."
He snapped his arm out of the circle and let it slam back into him with great speed. Crackling red lighting arced off of him with the impact, and his grin grew, and he wound his arm back. With a roar he swung it forward and released the ball, launching it with a gust of wind that knocked a few of the other students back. He looked down at his hand and saw it was a little raw, but it slowly faded and he turned towards the rest of the class.
The teacher looked on in shock and held up the scanner. It read "3546.4 m", and the rest of the class gasped in awe. Rumi's grin returned and she flashed Izuku a thumbs up, and nodded back as she returned to the class. Regathering himself, Kan looked at the students.
"Hopefully that will motivate you to do better. Because our goal here is to go beyond, and if you can't do that," his dangerous air returned, "then you don't deserve to be here."
Izuku was now resolved to get first. He had no doubts that he could do it, after all his quirk was incredibly versatile in its uses. He could probably ace every one of these tests easily. A part of him was convinced to take this easy, but it was too late for that. Now he had made an impression with the example ball throw.
"There are eight tests that you need to complete. The fifty meter dash, grip strength, standing long jump, repeated side-steps, distance run, seated toe touch, sit-ups, and the ball throw. Midoriya, you are exempt from the ball throw as you already did it."
Izuku nodded.
"The dash is first. Now get to work."
A/N: Alright, there's the next chapter and the start of the Quirk Apprehension Test. Now I know a few of you might not appreciate that I'm doing the QAT even though Izuku isn't in 1-A. My justification for that? I just like it and think it's neat. It's a good opportunity to show off the other students and quirks in the class. So I kept it. Obviously in universe, Aizawa managed to convince Kan that it's a good idea, as well as to do the whole expulsion threat to motivate them.
Now, there is a lot going on in the background so I'm curious if you guys want me to do a few interludes with other characters. Let me know. Question time.
pfcvillanueva: So, I answered part of that question in the actual chapter, but I'll reiterate here. The hero course still has the twenty students per class. As for the second part, I did indeed take other characters from the series. Some that we might never see given that I won't be covering the movies (except for the one that took place in I-Island). I also took some liberties with minor characters that you may or may not recognize. So hopefully that was satisfying for your answer!
.
Again, if there are any questions you have, I will answer them in the Author's Note at the end of the chapter. I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter and all that! So long and goodnight!
