"So, what do you think?" Chloe asked. They returned to the couch after their impromptu hookup, which still didn't seem real.
"Oh, uh… it was fun. I love a good orgasm," Beca chuckled, and Chloe picked up on her nervousness.
Chloe laughed, "No Beca, about the album, silly. Does this seem like something you'd be interested in?"
"Oh," Beca said. She relaxed into the couch, "I'm definitely interested. Although I will need some more information."
"Excellent!" Chloe squealed in delight - Beca lost count of how many times Chloe did that in the past hour. "Would you like something to drink before we continue?" the redhead asked.
"Sure. How about a beer?"
Chloe's energy fizzled out instantly, "I don't have beer."
"Oh," Beca let out a nervous chuckle. "How about a glass of wine?"
"Don't have wine either."
Beca was beginning to wonder if she had said or done something wrong?
"I don't have alcohol in my home," Chloe added, quickly and matter-of-factly, and Beca couldn't help but detect a hint of ominousness in her tone.
Beca decided to bring the energy back up, thinking perhaps it would lighten the mood. "It's cool," she said with a laugh. "How about some ice tea?"
As if she turned on a dime, Chloe switched right back to her bubbly demeanor. "Now I can hook a bitch up. I've got close to a lifetime supply of tea in my fridge and pantry." She gave Beca a playful push on the shoulder.
Beca couldn't help the coy smile forming on her lips. "Is it Lipton?" She recalled Chloe's famous commercial where the Angel of Fire stumbled into a convenience store and roughed up the clerk who was hiding the Lipton Sparkling Iced Tea when it was revealed he lied to her and proceeded to chug a can he had hidden behind the counter. The Angel of Fire conjured a fireball from her palm and chucked it at the clerk; then just as the fireball was about to hit him the screen flashed to cans of Lipton Sparkling Iced Tea dripping with condensation.
Chloe winked at her. "Of course," then stood up to fetch Beca her drink. "Sweet or Unsweetened?" she asked.
"Sweet always!"
"B-R-B," Chloe sing-songed as she excused herself from her office.
Minutes later a cheerful Chloe returned with a fresh glass of iced tea. Chloe even went through the trouble of attaching a lemon slice to the glass, which made Beca smile.
Beca took a drink while Chloe settled back onto the couch. "Holy crap, Chloe, this is amazing!" Beca could hardly contain her excitement.
"Glad to hear it. I'm a connoisseur of tea," Chloe said.
And apparently pussy too. Beca cloaked her thought behind a smile while she took another sip of tea.
"So," Beca sat her glass down on the table in front of the couch, "How many songs are you guys wanting to put on the album?
"The standard ten to twelve," Chloe said.
"Okay, okay," Beca sat back deep in thought now. "This is a concept album so, I hope I'm not out of line for saying this, but you guys might have to tailor your writing to match the theme of the album."
Chloe put her hand on Beca's knee, "You aren't out of line Beca. I want you to do this album because you know how to strike the right balance between the artists' vision and your vision."
Beca reached for her glass. "Thank you," she smiled then took another sip. "Like I said, I'm interested but I'd still like a little time, and I think we should have another meeting to go over some stuff. You should talk it over with the girls. Get their demos, if they have any, and maybe discuss a songwriting retreat."
"We have a concert coming up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota next week so I'll get them up to speed."
"Cool, cool." Beca stared at Chloe for a few seconds, unsure where to proceed given the awkward silence.
Luckily Chloe broke the ice.
"Thank you for coming out Beca!" the redhead leaned over and pulled the smaller woman into a warm hug. "It was a pleasure meeting you."
"You too," Beca said.
"I think you and I are going to be fast friends," she said sweetly then broke the hug.
"Well… you've seen me naked," Beca winked. "Which umm thank you. Not just for the sex but the hospitality."
"You're welcome Beca." Chloe laughed.
Minutes later Beca was on her way out the door. As she approached her car, she watched Ashley pull up in her vehicle, no doubt on her way back from doing Chloe's grocery shopping. The assistant smiled and waved to Beca.
Three days later…
Chloe arrived at the Sheraton Grand in her Jaguar. They had rented out the event center for this meeting; and if all went well, Chloe Beale might be producing a demo. Or better yet, getting the band a meeting with a record label.
Once she parked, the redhead stepped out of her car. She was clad in a cherry red pinstripe black pantsuit. Her Tom Ford's were comfortably tucked on her nose. Pushing her expensive handbag up her shoulder, she strolled through the hotel lobby.
Snake Medicine was the band she was meeting today. And if she wasn't offended by the fact the drummer was drunk out of his gourd, then it was the overabundance of gain coupled with the fast and sloppy style from the lead guitarist, who she could tell was also under the influence of something.
The two rhythm guitarists showed great potential, as did their keyboardist.
Chloe began scrolling through her phone after two minutes. "Thank you," she waved her hand, clearly annoyed.
"We're just a little disorganized, it's been a rough week, please give us another chance," one of the rhythm guitarists begged.
Chloe huffed. "Can I speak with you three? Privately," she dropped her phone back into her pocket. The two rhythm guitarists and the keyboardist followed the rock icon outside into the hallway.
"Look," Chloe sighed. "Your lead guitarist and your drummer are dragging you guys down. Tell them to clean up their act and apply themselves or you'll be forced to move forward without them."
"It's not that easy," one of the band members said.
"It's not?" Chloe raised an eyebrow. "You either want this or you don't."
The three nodded.
Chloe reached into her purse, "Call me in a couple of months when you've made some changes and we'll do this again," she handed them her card.
Chloe walked back into the room. She had some terse words for the others. "I hope you losers are happy? Get used to that feeling because it's what you'll be feeling years from now when your friends make it big. They chose to work hard. They chose to make good choices. Either get it together or hit the bricks because I don't have time for junkies." She signaled to her people that she was ready to leave.
Once she dropped into the driver's seat of her Jaguar, Chloe mulled over what to do next. After a few seconds, she texted Nita Strauss to see if she wanted to meet up for lunch.
She also wanted to buy a couple of gifts for Connor.
A/N: Feel free to leave feedback. I NEED it grrrrr.
