Our First Mother's Day

Summary: From the Firefighter!Chloe AU. Last Christmas Chloe helped deliver her son Dylan when Beca went into labor at home (see Chapter 11 titled The Spark We Created in my 12 Days of BeChloe Christmas - 2021).

Dylan Beale is now five months old and his mothers will be celebrating their first Mother's Day. Chloe wants to surprise Beca by doing something special.

"Good morning, handsome," Chloe said as she lifted 5-month-old Dylan from his crib.

Dylan waved his arms and legs as Chloe held him against her chest.

"How's my boy doing this morning?" Chloe asked, kissing the top of Dylan's head.

Beca came rushing into Dylan's room.

"Give me kisses," Beca said, leaning in to kiss Dylan's cheek.

"What about me?" Chloe pouted.

Beca shook her head and smiled as she reached up to kiss Chloe.

"I'd love to stay home with you both, but I have to meet my dad," Beca said. "I don't want to be late. You know how he gets."

"Bye, mommy," Chloe said in a baby voice while waving Dylan's hand at Beca. "Tell gramps I said hi."

"I love you, guys," Beca said, sending a wave over her shoulder. "I'll be home in time for dinner."

"We love you, too," Chloe called after her.

Chloe took Dylan to the changing table and proceeded to change Dylan's diaper.

"Finally," Chloe said, looking down at Dylan. "I didn't think mommy would ever leave. It's just you and me now. Let's get some breakfast and then get dressed so we can take Max for a walk and then go get momma a surprise for Mother's Day. It's only two weeks away and we're going to do something extra special for her. Are you with me?"

Dylan cooed and smiled; Chloe's heart melted.

"You are so adorable," Chloe said, smiling down at Dylan. "And, you've got your mommy's beautiful smile."

Chloe had just finished packing Dylan's diaper bag when the doorbell rang.

"I wonder who that could be?" Chloe mumbled as she picked Dylan up and made her way to the door.

"Hey, Chloe," Stacie said.

"Hey, Stacie," Chloe said. "What brings you by?"

"I love my wife, but I needed to get away from her and her hormones for a bit," Stacie said. "Do you mind if I hang out with you and Beca for a while?"

"Beca went to help her dad with something," Chloe said. "Dyl and I were actually just leaving. You're welcome to come with us if you want."

"Bless you," Stacie said with a relieved smile. "Where are you headed?"

"I'm taking Dylan to get some pictures done for Beca for Mother's Day," Chloe said. "Since she'll be at her dad's most of the day, I thought today was the perfect time to get it done."

"Oh, that's right," Stacie said. "It's your first Mother's Day since having Dylan."

"Yeah," Chloe said as she grabbed the diaper bag. "Just think, you and Aubrey will be celebrating next year."

"I'm looking forward to it," Stacie said, smiling as she followed Chloe to the garage.

Chloe threw the diaper bag onto the backseat and secured Dylan in his car seat as Stacie got into the passenger seat. Chloe got behind the wheel and started the car.

"Want to get lunch when you're done with Dylan's photos?" Stacie asked as Chloe started the car.

"Are Aubrey's hormones really that bad?" Chloe laughed as she pulled out of the garage.

"Yes, they are," Stacie said with a sigh.

~~ Our First Mother's Day ~~

Chloe and Stacie had just been seated at a Mexican restaurant near the photo studio. Stacie frowned as she looked around.

"Something wrong?" Chloe asked.

"I'm feeling guilty," Stacie said. "Aubrey loves this place and I left her home alone."

"You could always order her something to go," Chloe said.

Stacie smiled. "That's a great idea. I'll surprise her with her favorite."

"Um," Chloe said. "I think you should call her and see what she wants. When Beca was pregnant, I thought I was being a good wife and took home some subs from the deli near the station because she always raved about them. I handed them to her and she practically threw up as soon as she smelled them."

"Aubrey has had a lot of morning sickness," Stacie said. "And I'm still baffled why it's called morning sickness, when she's sick morning, noon, and night."

Chloe chuckled. "That's so true."

The waitress took their order and Stacie mentioned she may need to place an order to go before they left.

As soon as the waitress left the table, Stacie pulled out her phone and called Aubrey.

"Hey, babe," Stacie said when Aubrey answered.

"Where are you?" Aubrey asked.

"Beca was busy today so I'm having lunch with Chloe and Dylan," Stacie said. "We're at the little Mexican place you love and I thought I'd check to see if I can bring something home for you."

"That's sweet but I don't think my stomach will handle it well," Aubrey said. "But I would love it if you would stop by the market on your way home and pick up some dill pickles. I've got a craving for pickles and ice cream; we already have the ice cream."

"Gross," Stacie muttered. "Of course, babe. I'll let you know when I'm on my way home. I love you."

"I love you, too," Aubrey said. "Tell Chloe I said hi and give Dylan kisses for me."

"I will," Stacie said and ended the call. She looked at Chloe. "Brey said hi."

"What's gross?" Chloe asked.

"What?"

"When you were talking to Aubrey, she said something and you muttered gross. What was that about?"

"Oh, she wants me to stop and pick up some dill pickles," Stacie said, grimacing. "She has a craving for pickles and ice cream."

"Gross," Chloe said, shuddering at the thought. "I'm so glad Beca never had that craving or I'd have been the one with the morning sickness."

~~ Our First Mother's Day ~~

Later that night, Beca and Chloe were laying in bed, discussing Mother's Day. Beca had invited their parents over for a nice brunch and they were discussing what to have.

"Let's have it catered," Beca suggested. "We're moms now so we should be able to sit back and enjoy our day just like our moms."

"I'm loving that idea," Chloe said.

"I'll get the number from Stacie and call the caterer she uses for their Christmas Eve dinners," Beca said.

"They do have good food," Chloe said.

Beca snuggled closer to Chloe and said, "We should invite Stacie and Aubrey. Stacie said both their moms were going to visit one of their other kids for Mother's Day."

"I think that's a great idea," Chloe said. "I know Stacie's a bit overwhelmed with Aubrey's hormones and weird cravings right now. Oh, and let's make sure we have some pickles and ice cream on hand, just in case."

"Why?" Beca asked, scrunching her nose.

"That's what Aubrey has been craving, so I thought we should be prepared."

"Ew, gross," Beca said.

"That's what I said," Chloe said, chuckling.

Beca kissed Chloe's shoulder and threw her leg over Chloe's waist, sitting up so she was straddling Chloe's hips.

"Oh! I guess we're done talking," Chloe said as Beca leaned down to capture her lips in a heated kiss.

~~ Our First Mother's Day ~~

Three days later, Chloe was sitting in her office at Headquarters updating the report on her latest arson investigation. Her personal cell rang and she picked it up expecting to see Beca calling her. Her eyes widened in surprise when Benji's name popped up on her caller ID.

"Hey, Benji," Chloe said. "What's up? How's everything?"

"Um, I'm sorry to bother you, Chloe," Benji stammered. "I've been trying to reach Beca for a while and she's not answering. Do you know where she is?"

"She's working," Chloe said. "She said she'd be in the studio all day today so her phone is probably off or sitting on her desk. What's going on, Benji? Why do you need Beca?"

"I don't need Beca," Benji said. "Stacie does. It's about Aubrey."

"What happened, Benji?" Chloe asked, standing and grabbing her bag.

"Stacie had to rush Aubrey to the hospital this morning," Benji said. "She was bleeding and had some pain. Stacie thinks she's having a miscarriage and is freaking out. She called me because I'm Aubrey's family and local, but I'm at the Station and can't get away. I think someone needs to be with Stacie and I thought Beca would be the best choice."

"I'll go," Chloe said. "I'll also get in touch with Beca to see if she can meet me at the hospital later."

"Thanks, Chloe," Benji said. "I really appreciate this."

"I'll call you later, okay?" Chloe said as she rushed out of her office.

Beca's studio was on the way, so Chloe decided to go there first to see if Beca was able to go with her to the hospital.

"Hey, Mrs. Beale," the security guard said as Chloe approached his desk.

"Hey, Joe," Chloe said. "I really need to see Beca, can you call Dani and ask her to tell Beca I'm here and it's urgent?"

"Sure thing," Joe said, picking up his desk phone. "Yeah, hey, Dani, it's Joe at the Security Desk. Mrs. Beale is here and says it is urgent that she needs to see Beca right away." Joe listened, nodding his head. "I'll send her right up. Thanks, Dani."

Joe pulled out a visitor's badge and handed it to Chloe. "Dani said for you to go right up."

"Thanks, Joe," Chloe said, rushing toward the elevators.

When she arrived on Beca's floor Chloe was surprised to see Dani waiting for her when the elevator doors opened.

"Follow me," Dani said, turning to head toward the studio where Chloe assumed Beca was working. Dani confirmed this when she added, "Beca's still in the studio so I thought it best to just take you there."

When they reached the studio, Dani opened the door and Chloe followed her in. Beca immediately looked up when she heard the door open and saw Chloe come in with Dani.

"Chloe, what's wrong?" Beca asked as she stood. "Is Dylan okay? Are you okay?"

"I'm fine; Dylan's fine, too," Chloe quickly reassured Beca. "Stacie had to rush Aubrey to the hospital. Benji called and Stacie is alone at the hospital and freaking out. He's stuck at the station and wants someone to be with Stacie. I told him I'd go but I thought she'd feel better if you were there, too."

Beca frowned, trying to take in everything Chloe was saying.

"Beca?" a voice called out.

Chloe looked over and was surprised to see Demi Lovato standing there.

"Oh, Demi," Beca said, looking frantic. "I'm sorry, I have to -"

"Go," Demie said. "I heard everything, and you should go be with your friend. I'm sure she needs you to be there, more than I need you to be here."

"Thanks, Demi," Beca said, turning to Chloe. "I need to get my stuff from my office and then we can leave."

"Okay," Chloe said, following Beca and Dani out of the studio.

~~ Our First Mother's Day ~~

Beca and Chloe rush into the ER waiting room to find Stacie sitting with her head in her hands.

"Stacie?" Beca called out, causing Stacie to look up. "How's Aubrey? Any news yet?"

"Not yet," Stacie said with tears in her eyes. "How did you guys know we were here?"

"Benji called me," Chloe said, taking the seat next to Stacie. "He couldn't leave the station and asked us to come to be with you."

Beca sat on the opposite side and took Stacie's hand in hers.

"We're here for you," Beca said, squeezing Stacie's hand. "For both of you."

"Thank you," Stacie whispered while wiping a tear from her eye. "I'm so scared. I don't know what we'll do if she loses the baby."

Stacie let out a sob and Beca pulled her into a hug. Chloe rubbed Stacie's back as she cried on Beca's shoulder.

Chloe doesn't know how long they sat comforting Stacie when a doctor came out and called out, "Family of Aubrey Posen?"

Stacie jumped up. "I'm her wife."

"Oh," the doctor said. "I'm Dr. Winston. Your wife is being taken down for a C-section."

Stacie reached out and grabbed onto Beca's hand. "Is, um, is she, are they going to be okay?"

"Your wife will be fine," Dr. Winston said. "The baby is in distress and we feel the best course of action is to perform a C-section to give your baby the best possible chance of survival."

"Oh, thank God," Stacie muttered. "Can I be in the room with her?"

"Yes, ma'am," Dr. Winston said. "Come with me and I'll take you to the operating room to get you ready."

"Do you want us to call your families?" Chloe asked before Stacie could walk away.

"Uh, yeah," Stacie said. "Beca has my mom's number. You can call Benji and get Aubrey's parents' number. And let him know what's going on, too, please."

"We'll take care of it, Stacie," Beca said. "You go take care of Aubrey and your baby, okay?"

"Okay," Stacie said as she followed the doctor.

Chloe pulled out her phone. "I'm going to call my mom first. Ask her to stay with Dylan until we get home. I'll call Benji after."

"Good thinking," Beca said, pulling out her phone. "I'll call Stacie's folks."

~~ Our First Mother's Day ~~

Mother's Day found Chloe sneaking into her and Beca's room with Dylan as Beca lay sleeping.

"Wake up mommy, Dyl," Chloe whispered as she sat him on Beca's stomach.

Dylan flopped forward, nuzzling to try and latch onto Beca's breast through her thin tee shirt.

"Chlo, stop it," Beca groaned. "It's Mother's Day and I get to sleep in."

Chloe giggled and Beca opened one eye to see Dylan laying on her while trying to suckle her breast.

"Ew, Dylan," Beca groaned. "We've talked about this. Girls do not like guys who drool."

"Sorry, mommy," Chloe said in her baby Dylan voice. She chuckled and added, "Somebody's hungry."

"Can you get him so I can at least take my shirt off?"

Chloe reached over and lifted Dylan off Beca. Beca pulled her shirt off and placed her pillow behind her so she could sit up. Chloe handed her Dylan and Beca helped him latch on again and smiled down at him.

"Happy Mother's Day," Chloe said, smiling at Beca and Dylan.

"Happy Mother's Day," Beca said, cupping Chloe's cheek to pull her into a kiss. "I love you."

"I love you, too," Chloe said.

Chloe laid on her side next to Beca, resting her head on her hand. "Have you spoken to Stacie since Aubrey and Emma went home?"

"Yeah," Beca said. "They're both doing great. Aubrey's still a bit sore, but other than that Stacie said she's in good spirits. I asked if they wanted to spend their first Mother's Day with us, but she declined. She said they weren't ready to take Emma out anywhere just yet."

"That's understandable. We'll have to plan to go over there soon," Chloe said. "Check in on them and introduce Dylan and Emma."

Chloe suddenly sat up with a smile. "Wouldn't it be something if our kids grew up together and became a couple?"

"That would be something," Beca said with a small chuckle. "Oh, I have something for you, mama."

"I, well Dylan has something for you, too, mommy," Chloe said. "You'll get it once everyone is here."

"Okay," Beca said. "We'll wait and open everything later."

Just then the doorbell rang and Chloe jumped off the bed. "That's probably the caterer. I'll show them where to set everything up and come back up to help get Dylan ready for his grandparents."

~~ Our First Mother's Day ~~

Several hours later, everyone was full and sitting around the living room talking. Beca was sitting next to Chloe on one end of the sofa; Beca was holding Dylan. Their moms were sitting on the other side of Beca, cooing over Dylan. Beca's dad and stepmom were sitting side by side on the loveseat across from the sofa. Paul and Carl were in the kitchen getting everyone drinks.

"Hey, babe?" Beca said looking at Chloe. "Would you get the gifts we got for our moms?"

"Sure," Chloe said, standing and leaving the room.

Paul came into the living room, carrying a tray with drinks on them. Carl was right behind him, carrying another tray with desserts. They moved from person to person, letting them take their drinks and a dessert plate as they went.

"The food today was wonderful, Beca," Sheila said. "I think it was a smart move having it catered."

"Thanks," Beca said. "I used the same caterer our friends Stacie and Aubrey use for their traditional Christmas Eve dinner."

"How are Aubrey and the baby doing?" Sarah asked.

"Aubrey went home three days after Emma was born, but Emma had to stay an extra week and was able to go home two days ago," Beca replied. "Stacie said they're both doing well. We invited them over today but they aren't ready to take Emma out anywhere quite yet."

"That's probably for the best," Charlotte said. "Preemies are more susceptible to catch whatever is going around. She's been through enough already."

"Chloe and I are going to make plans to visit sometime soon," Beca said. "We haven't seen Aubrey or Emma since the day Emma was born."

"Here we go," Chloe said, carrying in four large gift bags and a few wrapped gifts of varying sizes.

"Let me help you," Ben said, standing and taking the wrapped gifts from Chloe.

"Thanks, Ben," Chloe said. She handed Sheila a bag. "This is for you but you'll have to wait to open it."

"Thank you," Sheila said, smiling at Chloe.

"Mom, this one's yours," Chloe said, handing Charlotte a bag. "Same rules for you; no opening until I tell you."

"Thanks, dear," Charlotte said.

"Sarah, here you go," Chloe said. "You know the drill."

"Thank you, Chloe," Sarah said, chuckling as she set the bag on the floor.

Chloe took the wrapped gifts from Ben and laid them on the coffee table in front of her.

"Okay, Beca," Chloe said, sitting next to her wife and handing her the larger of the wrapped gifts. "You have to open this before anyone can open their gift bags."

Chloe took Dylan from Beca and sat him on her lap with his back to her front. Beca took the gift and started ripping the paper from the box. Dylan grabbed at the paper and Beca laughed as she let him take a piece of it. Dylan giggled and waved his arms around, smacking Chloe in the face. Chloe gently took his arms and held them down; she smiled at him and kissed the top of his head.

Beca opened the box and found a framed picture of Dylan. He was wearing a firefighter's uniform and Chloe's fire helmet was sitting next to him.

"Aww," Beca cooed over the photo. "He's so cute. Where did you find that outfit?"

"I have my sources," Chloe said with a grin.

"I love this," Beca said. "Thank you."

She kissed Dylan's cheek and then kissed Chloe.

"Can we see?" Sarah asked.

Beca turned the photo around and showed it off to the grandparents. They all oohed and awwed over it. Dylan just giggled and put his fist with the wrapping paper in his mouth.

"Oh, no sweetie," Chloe said, grabbing his hand and taking the soggy paper. "We don't eat paper."

Beca put the framed photo back in the box.

"Okay, grandmas," Chloe said. "You can open your gift bags now."

Each of the grandmothers opened their gift bags and lifted identical sweatshirts and tee shirts; each bearing the same photo of Dylan that Beca had received.

"Oh, my gosh, Chlo," Beca cooed. "They are so freaking cute."

"Don't worry, babe," Chloe leaned in to whisper to Beca. "I had one made for each of us, too."

Beca leaned in and kissed Chloe. "You are the best!"

"These are so adorable," Sheila said. "Thank you."

"I love that I can show off my grandson in cold and warm weather," Charlotte said as she put the tee-shirt on over her blouse.

Sarah just smiled as she, too, put her tee shirt on.

Beca picked up the smaller wrapped gifts and started handing them out.

"These are from me and Dylan," she said, handing one to Chloe as well.

The women opened the gifts to find a mother's/grandmother's necklace with Dylan's name and birthstone attached.

"It's made so if we have any more kids we can easily add another name and birthstone to it," Beca said.

"If?" Chloe said, looking at Beca with a raised eyebrow.

A/N: Sorry, this wasn't ready for posting on Mother's Day; but you know, life and all that. Also, I purposely left it open-ended because I have plans to do another holiday-themed firefighter!Chloe one-shot later.
