Chapter Six

Katherine drove them home and helped Lucy back inside. "Why don't you go put on your contacts and I'll get the first aid kit..." Katherine told her. Lucy nodded and felt her way upstairs, putting her contacts on. Katherine met her in the bathroom with the first aid kit and set Lucy down on the toilet so she could take care of her cut. Katherine undid the handkerchief and took it off. Lucy was still bleeding. Katherine opened the first aid kit and took out some gauze, pressing it to her wound.

Lucy winced in pain and her mother continued to press on the wound trying to get the bleeding to stop. "We may need to take you to the hospital if I can't get the bleeding to stop." Katherine told her. Lucy nodded. Five minutes later the bleeding finally stopped. As Katherine treated the wound she smiled at Lucy. "It looks like you dodged a bullet here." she smiled as she dressed the wound. "Thank you." Lucy told her. "Let's get an ice pack for that eye..."she said as she patted her leg. Katherine closed the first aid kit and put it away, meeting Lucy down in the kitchen. Lucy was sitting down at the table and Katherine gathered an ice pack for her. She placed it on Lucy's eye and had Lucy hold onto it.

"Thank you." Lucy told her. "Don't mention it sweetie." Katherine told her. Dylan came back with Lila a few minutes later. "I can't find her anywhere mom..." Dylan said. "I found her." Katherine said to her as she smiled at Lucy. Lucy looked up at Dylan and dropped the ice pack. "I-I should go..." Lucy said, but Katherine stopped her. "Nobody is going anywhere, Lucy sit down and put the ice pack back on your eye. Lucy, this is your sister Dylan, she didn't know about you, and this is her daughter Lila..." Katherine told her. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to startle you, I didn't know I had a sister. Mom is good at keeping secrets." Dylan hinted. Lucy nodded as she placed the ice pack on her eye.

Katherine glared at Dylan with a look that said 'not another word'. Lucy didn't understand, but decided she was better off not knowing and continued to hold the ice pack to her eye. Dylan saw the way her mother doted on Lucy and was still rather angry about the entire lie, or rather her failing to come clean. Once the ten minutes were up Katherine took the ice pack and told her that they would ice it again later. Lucy decided to get her iPad and earbuds and go draw outside. Luckily she had cut her left hand and not her right because she was right handed.

Lucy opened Procreate on her iPad and started to draw when someone walked up to her. She had been singing Something to Talk About by Bonnie Raitt. She really wasn't paying attention to who came up to her, sketching out the base for a drawing she was working on. Suddenly she saw a hand in front of her and jumped, dropping her iPad, luckily it didn't break. "Whoa, I didn't mean to startle you. I just wanted to tell you that you have an amazing voice." the voice said. Lucy looked up and saw a man with dirty blonde hair looking at her. "You know, you should be aware, Katherine doesn't really like strange people sitting by her house." he said. Lucy stood there quietly having paused her music a while ago.

The man noticed that the girl looked just like Katherine. "Wait, you must be Lucy. My wife told me all about you. I'm Tom Scavo, I live across the street. Lucy grabbed her iPad and ran back inside. "Wait! You forgot your stylus!" Tom called out as he picked it up. Lucy ran upstairs and hid in the bathroom, her heart raced as she tried to calm herself. "Lulu? Is that you?" Katherine called out. A few moments later she heard knocking at her door. Katherine walked over and opened it to see Tom standing there. "Hi, Lucy dropped this outside. " Tom said as he handed the stylus to Katherine. "Oh thank you, I'll make sure to give it back to her." Katherine said as she started to shut the door. "I may have startled her, and I didn't mean to, I just heard her singing and wanted to compliment her, but she jumped and took off." Tom told her. "Why don't you come in? I'll see if I can get Lucy to come down." Katherine said as she invited Tom in. "Is she always this frightened when it comes to strangers?" Tom asked Katherine. "Oh no, just men." Katherine replied as she started to head up the stairs. "Why men?" Tom asked her.

"Lynette didn't tell you? The woman who took Lucy abused her, and her husband, well let's just say he did unspeakable things to her." Katherine said as she headed upstairs. She found Lucy panicking in the bathroom. Tom stood there thinking about what she meant by that before it came to him, Lucy must have been raped as a child. Now he felt awful. If it was one of his kids he would have killed the people who hurt his children. "Lucy, Mr. Scavo didn't mean to scare you, here, he wanted to return this to you." Katherine said as she handed Lucy her stylus. "C-Can you tell him thank you for me?" Lucy asked her.

"I think it would mean more if it came from you, come on, I'll stay with you the whole time." Katherine said with a smile. She led Lucy out of the bathroom and downstairs. Lucy stood there for a moment, trying to find the words, but they wouldn't come out. After a few more awkward moments of silence Lucy finally spoke. "T-Thank you..." she said quietly before taking off into another room to settle down. "I'm sorry about that, she's just..." Katherine started. "No, I totally get it. I would be like her too if I were in her shoes. You know, exposure therapy might be good for her...if she's around guys more she might feel more comfortable around them. I don't mind being the guinea pig." Tom told her.

"I appreciate that, but I think Lucy should just get used to living here first. She's not quite used to friendly neighbors. Lucy told me in both towns she lived in the neighbors pretty much ignored each other. One step at a time." Katherine told him as she saw him out. About an hour later Katherine heard knocking at her door again. Lucy was busy drawing and listening to music, keeping her musical skills to herself. "Hey Katherine, we've all looked, but we can't find Lucy." the girls said as they came over. "Oh, I didn't realize you were looking. I found Lucy already, she's drawing in the other room." Katherine said as she let them in to show Lucy was drawing on the couch.

"Oh thank god, we were all so worried about her." Bree said to Katherine. "Oh I should call Mike, he's still looking for her." Susan said as she stepped away to call her husband. "Susan, I've looked all over, I can't find Lucy anywhere. Do you think she left town?" Mike asked as he picked up the phone. "Lucy's fine, Katherine found her a while ago." She's a bit beat up, but she's in one piece." Susan said as she looked at Lucy. "What do you mean beat up? What happened?" Mike asked Susan as he started to drive over to Katherine's. "Lucy didn't have her contacts in, she walked into a light pole and has a black eye, she also cut her hand on some glass." Susan explained. "Alright, I'll be right there. I want to make sure she's okay." Mike said as he hung up.

Susan put her phone away and walked over to her friends. "Mike is on his way over, he wants to check on Lucy, make sure she's okay." Susan said. "Oh that's not necessary, as you can see she's fine." Katherine told her. "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to spend a bit of time with my daughter, please tell Mike that she's fine and that he doesn't have to come over." Katherine said as she led them out and locked the door behind her.

Katherine sat beside Lucy and watched her draw for a few minutes. Lucy looked up from her drawing and set it down. "Oh umm I hate to impose." Lucy said as she paused her music and took out her earbuds. "But every year I make my special Christmas cookies. Would you like to bake them with me?" Lucy asked her. "Of course I would. But we should go to the store and get some ingredients. Go get your jacket and we'll go." Katherine smiled at her. Lucy nodded and went upstairs to get her jacket. It had a galaxy all over print. She put it on and went downstairs. Katherine grabbed her purse and the two of them left to the store.

When Mike came up to Katherine's house ten minutes later he noticed Katherine's car wasn't there. He knocked in hopes that Lucy would be there and answer the door, but no such luck. So he sat there and waited, and waited, and waited. "Hey Mike, are you looking for Katherine?" Tom asked as he walked over. "I think she and Lucy left. Not sure where they went." Tom added. "Thanks." he said. "I heard about Lucy, that poor girl, she's been through hell and back. I guess it's a good thing she doesn't know where Lucy's father is, she would bet terrified of him." Tom replied. "Yeah, that's too bad." Mike said as he started to get angry. "If I found out that I had a child that went missing and someone did that to her I would probably kill the guy." Tom added. Mike waved at him and then left.

Thirty minutes later Katherine and Lucy came home from the store. They brought in the bags and they were both smiling. Once they got back into the house they started to bake the cookies and Lucy was showing off her decorating skills. The cookies were very soft and also very beautifully decorated. They continued to bake when there was a knock on the door. Katherine placed the batter down as she went to the door, but she saw Mike out the window and turned around, turning on some music loudly to drown out the sound of his knocking.

"Who was that Ms. Mayfair?" Lucy asked her. "Oh no one, they came to the wrong address." Katherine said. They went back to baking and Lucy began to hum the song. Mike started to bang on the door. "KATHERINE! I KNOW YOU'RE IN THERE! LET ME SEE LUCY NOW!" he yelled as he continued to bang on the door. Dylan pulled up with her daughter Lila and saw Mike yelling. "Hey Mike, what's going on?" Dylan asked. "Your mother will not let me see Lucy." Mike told her. "Why do you need to see Lucy?" Dylan asked him. "I'm surprised your mother didn't tell you. Lucy's my daughter. And I would like to see her to make sure she's alright." Mike informed her.

"I see, more secrets, this should be fun." Dylan said as she thought to herself. "Come on in, I'll make sure that you get to see Lucy." she said as she unlocked the door and let Mike in. Lucy and Katherine were laughing at something when Mike came in and walked into the kitchen. Lucy was looking down and decorating a cookie with icing. "Hey Lulu, could you pass the red icing please?" Katherine asked. Lucy smiled and handed her the piping bag full of red icing. Katherine dropped the icing on on the floor when she saw Mike. Lucy saw her drop the icing and looked up before dropping her icing as well. Lucy panicked and took off towards the stairs and ran into the bathroom locking the door.

Katherine then noticed Dylan smirking in the corner. "Hey mom, look who I found outside. You know you would have probably heard someone at the door if you didn't have such loud music." Dylan said. Katherine picked up the piping bags. "Mike, what a pleasant surprise." Katherine lied as she placed them back onto the counter. "Katherine I know you saw me so cut the crap." Mike told her. "I'm sorry, I have no idea what you're talking about." Katherine told him as she changed the icing tip and got rid of the icing that may have touched the floor. "That's bull and you know it Katherine. Not letting me see Lucy? Damn it I just wanted to make sure she's alright!" Mike told her.

"Well you saw her, she's fine. You can go." Katherine said to him as she walked to the door. "You can't keep me from seeing her Katherine, I am her father, legally you don't have a leg to stand on." Mike said to her. "She doesn't want to see you. If she did, she wouldn't have run off and locked herself in the bathroom." Katherine told him. She opened the door and asked him again to leave. "This isn't over Katherine, I will see my daughter." Mike told her. Katherine shut the door and locked it behind him. "I will deal with you later Dylan." Katherine said to her before going upstairs to calm Lucy down. "Lulu? He's gone okay, you can come out now." Katherine said as she knocked on the bathroom door. Lucy unlocked the bathroom door and stepped out.

"How about we finish those cookies alright?" Katherine told her with a smile. Lucy nodded and went back downstairs to help her finish. Once the cookies were finished they cleaned up and started on dinner. "Can you deliver these to the neighbors later for me please?" Lucy asked Katherine as they cooked dinner. "I think it would be better if we both did it, don't you?" Katherine asked Lucy. "B-But..." Lucy started to say. "I'll be there with you, if you start to feel nervous you can squeeze my hand alright?" Katherine said to Lucy. Lucy nodded "O-Okay..." she replied as she looked at her. Once dinner was finished they all sat down.

"Doesn't this usually have nuts?" Dylan asked as she ate her salad. "We had to nix the nuts, your sister here is allergic to all tree nuts, peanuts, and all seafood." Katherine replied. "Oh so your little clone has food allergies. I bet it's nice having a clone of yourself around the house to help do all the things that you love to do. Did you place nuts in her salad? Maybe you are trying to go two for two and kill off another kid?" Dylan asked her. Katherine smacked her. Lucy decided to excuse herself from the table and left out of the front door. She hated fighting and her smacking Dylan made her uncomfortable. Lucy walked down the street and found a nearby park. She sat on the bench and started to cry.

"How dare you say that to Lucy? You have no idea what she has been through. You want to be mad at someone, be mad at me, but do not take it out on her. She is innocent in all of this." Katherine told her. "Mom, you had another kid! You lied to me about her existence every time I saw you. You could have brought it up at any time! Is that why that room next to yours is always locked?" Dylan asked her. "I couldn't tell you...because if I did I would think about her. I would feel guilty that I couldn't protect her. I was trying to forget about what happened. Then I got that call...the one that told me she was alive and I could get her back. I learned what happened to Lucy, about her abuse and rape. And then all I could think about was my failure to protect her." Katherine told her.

"She was abused?" Dylan asked her. "They would beat her and rape her every day until she was taken away from them. That's why she's afraid of men. I don't want her to be afraid anymore." Katherine explained. Once Katherine explained exactly what happened she felt so awful for what she had said about Lucy. "We should probably go look for her." Dylan said to her mother.

"Hey Lucy! What's wrong?" Lynette asked her as she walked over to Lucy. She had seen her take off towards the park. "Dylan hates me..." Lucy replied. "What happened?" Lynette asked as she sat beside Lucy. Lucy explained what happened to Lynette and heard Lucy's stomach. "Why don't you join us for dinner? You can get a small break from the drama." Lynette said with a small laugh. "Okay, thank you." Lucy told her. They both stood up and walked over to Lynette's house. Once they arrived she led Lucy inside. She spotted Paige looking for a snack. "We're about to have dinner, so put the snack away." Lynette told her. Paige sighed and placed the chips back in the cupboard. "Oh Paige! This is Lucy. She's Ms. Mayfair's daughter. She's new here so why don't you show her around later?" Lynette suggested.

"Hey Lynette." Tom said as he kissed his wife. "Oh Tom, this is Lucy Mayfair, the girl I was telling you about." Lynette said. Lucy looked up and backed away. "Lucy it's great seeing you again. Don't worry, I'll keep my distance alright?" he said as he backed up a good distance from Lucy. "You two know each other?" Lynette asked him. "Yeah, she's that girl with the amazing voice I was telling you about." Tom told her. "Ah so I see you are a fan of classic rock? Something you have in common with your father." Lynette said to her.

"Father, what do you mean? I thought Katherine didn't know who Lucy's father was?" Tom asked. "Well Lucy informed me that Mike is her father, apparently Susan guessed it because of her eyes and because of her epilepsy, Mike's grandmother had it." Lynette explained. "Anyways, Lucy will be joining us for dinner while Dylan and Katherine hash it out." she added. "Well I have made burgers and they just finished." Tom said as he smiled at Lucy.

Tom, Lynette, Lucy, and Paige sat down at the table with Lucy sitting as far away from Tom as she possibly could. Lucy read the back of the bun package to make sure that there were none of her allergens listed on it. "Don't worry sweetie, I made sure that nothing contained peanuts, tree nuts, or seafood." Lynette told her while she read. "Thank you." Lucy said as she sat at the table with her burger. "Why did you check for those things Lynette?" Tom asked her. "Lucy has severe food allergies and those are what she's allergic to." Lynette told him.

As they sat there and ate Lynette decided to start up some conversation. "You know, Lucy is quite the baker. Do you remember that beautiful geode cake? The one you said that would have been awesome to have at our wedding?" Lynette asked him. "The one on the Kids Baking Championships?" Tom asked her. "What was that girl's name? Oh yeah, Rachel Russo, god she's talented." Tom said. He then put two and two together. "That was you Lucy? I can't believe I didn't recognize you! Your cake was amazing!" Tom said as he gushed about her cake. "Thank you..." Lucy said quietly.

As they finished their dinner Lucy went outside for some fresh air. She then saw Tom fiddling with a bass in the garage. She had started to begin to trust him, even though she just met him. He reminded her of her Uncle Liam a bit. Lucy knew she needed to get over her fear of men, after all not all of them were bad. "Oh hey Lucy, getting some fresh air?" Tom asked her as he came over to her with the bass. He kept his distance still. "Y-Yeah..." Lucy told him. "I like your bass." she added quietly.

"Oh so you know it's a bass and not a guitar?" Tom asked her. Lucy nodded. "I play bass sometimes..." Lucy told him. "You play bass?" he asked her. "Yeah and other instruments..." Lucy answered. "What other instruments do you play?" Tom asked her. "Oh well I play piano, flute, ocarina, saxophone, violin, guitar, bass, drums, harp, trumpet, clarinet, cello, kalimba, and ukulele." she admitted. "That's fourteen instruments. You're only thirteen. How do you find the time?" he asked her. "When it's something you want to do, you make time." she replied quietly.

"Hey Tom." Mike said as he brought over his guitar. He thought that Tom was talking to Katherine at first because he didn't see her face, but once he got closer he noticed that it couldn't be Katherine, she wasn't tall enough to be her. The girl turned around revealing it was Lucy. "Lucy." Mike said, but Lucy jumped a little and started to back away from them both. "Lucy it's okay, I'm not going to hurt you." Mike told her. "Can we just talk?" he asked her. Lucy nodded and stood there. Mike noticed the black eye. He walked towards her slowly. "Mind if I look at that eye?" he asked her. Lucy shook her head so Mike came closer to her. "That's quite a shiner." he said as he examined it.

He then looked down and saw that there was blood dripping from Lucy's hand. "You're bleeding. Can I take a look?" he asked her. "O-Okay..." she said quietly. Mike took her hand and saw that it had bled through the bandage. "Tom, do you guys have a first aid kit I could borrow?" Mike asked him. "Yeah, I'll go get it." Tom said before running into the house. He grabbed the first aid kit "Tom, what's going on?" Lynette asked him. "Lucy's bleeding." he said as he ran outside, Lynette followed him. "Oh my god Lucy, you're bleeding." Lynette said to her. Mike unraveled the bandage and saw that the cut was pretty deep. "I think I should take her to the hospital, she needs stitches." Mike told them. He cleaned the wound and bandaged it up for her.

He then ran to get his truck and came back. Lucy stood there and looked at her father for a few minutes. "Lucy, you should go, I promise you he won't hurt you..." Lynette told her as she led her to the truck. Lucy nodded and got in the truck and buckled her seat belt before Mike drove off. She kept taking deep breaths to try to prevent herself from having a panic attack. Before she knew it she was panicking and actually starting to wheeze. "Lucy? Lucy what's wrong?" Mike asked her. Lucy reached in her pocket, but her inhaler wasn't there. It was still in her backpack at home. "Are you alright?" he asked her, but Lucy shook her head as she continued to wheeze.

"Hang on Lucy we're almost there." he said to her as he pulled up. Lucy wasn't breathing well at all as she wheezed. Mike got out of the truck and opened the door for Lucy. Lucy tried to step out, but fell immediately to the ground. Mike noticed that she couldn't get up on her own and picked her up, running her into the hospital. "Help! My daughter! She can't breathe!" he said as he brought her in. "Does your daughter have asthma?" they asked as they heard her wheezing. "I...I don't know, I just met her the other day." Mike said. He couldn't remember if Susan had told him if she had asthma, he was just panicking. "Her hand is also bleeding, I think it needs stitches." Mike added. They took Lucy back and Mike sat down in the waiting room.

Katherine and Dylan were looking for Lucy while Lila cleaned the kitchen. "LUCY!" Dylan called out. "LULU! WHERE ARE YOU?!" Katherine called out. Lynette heard some commotion outside and came out. "Hey Katherine, is something wrong?" Lynette asked as she walked towards her. "Have you seen Lucy? We can't find here anywhere." Katherine asked her. "Oh yeah, Mike took her to the hospital. The cut on her hand started bleeding and he thought she needed stitches." Lynette replied. Katherine froze and decided to go to the hospital to see her daughter.

Once Katherine arrived she walked over to the receptionist. "I-I'm looking for my daughter Lucy Mayfair, do you know where she is?" Katherine asked. "She's being treated for a cut on her hand and an asthma attack right? She's in that room over there with her father." the receptionist pointed. "Thank you." Katherine said before walking off to Lucy's room. "Lucy? Thank god you're alright." Katherine said as she quickly walked over to Lucy. "What happened sweetheart? You had an asthma attack are you alright?" Katherine asked as she sit next to her. "My hand started bleeding and Mr. Delfino saw and said I needed stitches. But when I went with him I started to have a panic attack which turned into an asthma attack." Lucy explained to her. "Let me see your hand Lucy." Katherine said as she took Lucy's hand and saw the stitches. "We'll make sure to keep it clean and taken care of so that it doesn't get infected." Katherine smiled at her.

Mike came back and saw someone was in his chair. "Hello Katherine..." Mike told her. "Thank you for taking Lucy to the hospital, but I'm here now so you can leave." she replied as she smiled at Lucy. "I'm not going anywhere. You will let me see Lucy or I will hire a lawyer and get at least partial custody of her." Mike told Katherine. "I guess I'll see you in court." Katherine told him with her back still turned. She knew she could win this easily. Mike walked out of the room angrily and left. Once Lucy got discharged they went home for the night. Lucy was staying on the couch until her furniture arrived which wasn't until tomorrow. She didn't mind though. Lucy eventually drifted off to sleep, not hearing the sound of the door being picked open and not hearing the sounds of footsteps until she felt a hand over her mouth. The handkerchiefed hand pressed against her mouth and nose, knocking her out before whisking her away.
