Koll sneaks across the ships to the icy land with a pack for his journey. For years now, Koll had hidden a Night Fury under his adoptive father's watch. A risk that could end both lives. But now, the Dragon Rider was going to escape and find his real family. The family Drago Bludvist took Koll away from. All the young Rider had was a medallion his father teased the young man with. Koll remembered the many times he wanted to leave or tried to help, Drago used the medallion to put the man back in line. Normally Drago would just kill a pest, but not Koll. His father was an enemy of Drago. Which meant Koll had worth. But now there was nothing to keep the man here. He had the medallion and he has a dragon. When Koll reached the ice cave where the Night Fury slept, he smiled.

"Hey Toothless. Ready to get out of here?" Koll asked and the Dragon lept to his feet with a gummy smile. "Yeah me too." Koll replied as he put the back on the saddle. He remembered when he first met the Night Fury, Koll was walking along the trails when he found a wounded dragon he has never seen before. Koll thought it was dead, but it moved and without hesitation, Koll cut the ropes holding it down. The dragon tried to fly away, but its fin was damaged. So Koll hid it away. That night, Koll tried to find out what kind of dragon it was in secret but found nothing except for one thing. No one has seen a Night Fury before and lived. Until Koll did. Over the next several days they bonded and Koll made a new tail fin, but need a Rider to help operate it. Now the two were best friends. "Let's get out of here." Koll said as he jumped on the saddle. He secured the medallion in the sack before they took off.

Koll knew it was going to be difficult to escape the stronghold, but with Toothless he was determined. After all, the fleet never thought someone would ride a dragon, much less Koll. But arrows and catapults were launched missing them thanks to Toothless's speed. But someone got lucky and hit his shoulder. The Rider yell from the pain but they kept flying, faster now. Koll looked back to see Drago staring at the two friends with anger. But they were escaping. Koll was going to find his family.

Drago watched as Koll escaped on the back of a dragon. Drago tightened his grip on his staff knowing he should have broken the child years earlier, but he was so stubborn. Just like his father Stoick the Vast. The lone survivor of Drago's attack on the Chiefs. After that day, Drago wanted revenge for Stoick's deviance. What better than to train his child to kill the father. So that is what Drago did. Had his men distract the Chief and his wife with a dragon raid, while taking the child. Now that child is gone with his medallion. The only thing that can prove he is the son of Stoick. The lost heir of Berk.

One Day Later

Valka was walking through the village with her daughter and husband by her side. It has been eighteen years since Hiccup was taken from her and she blamed herself. So when Frida was born eight years ago, both parents refuse to let her out of their sight. Stoick held Valka closely as Frida played with her toys of a Monstrous Nightmare and a Viking. She was just like her father. Wanting to fight the dragons to protect Berk. Valka loved her child, but she hopes that there could be peace with the dragons. It was times like these when she wondered what her son would be like. As they walked, a loud crash could be heard and when they turned, Valka saw a dark dragon on the ground. The warriors circled it wondering what it was and if it was alive. Valka held her daughter close as she advance with the village. But when the dragon bolted up and growled, Valka put herself in between the dragon and Frida. The warriors didn't charge after seeing a man under the dragon. They didn't want to risk his life if he was alive. But Valka saw it had a saddle and a fake tail fin. She knew it was protecting the man.

"Stoick." Valka said and the Chief walked to his wife in moments.

"Is Frida okay." he asked concerned.

"Yes watch her." Valka answered before walking ahead of the warriors.

"Val!" Stoick yelled but it was too late. She was face to face with the dragon.

"It's alright, is your friend hurt?" Valka asked and the dragon kept his eye on his surroundings. The woman crouched and moved closer with her hand out. The dragon sniffed her hand and backed up. It stopped growling but it kept eyeing the warriors. "Stoick order them to put their weapons down."

"Are you crazy?" Stoick yelled and Valka gave him a look. "Do what she says, but if that dragon hurts you I'll kill it myself." Stoick replied and the warriors of Berk lowered their weapons. What surprised Valka and Berk next was that the dragon sat down like a dog. Valka moved the young man and saw he had an arrow in his shoulder.

"Get Gothi. He's hurt." Valka ordered.

"Of course he's hurt. He was carried by a dragon." Gobber replied.

"Unless the dragon knows how to shoot a bow, I think we should keep our options open." Valka remarked and the dragon moaned as it lay down next to the boy. Valka has only seen dragons try to kill the people of Berk, but this was new to her. "Don't worry, we'll help your friend."

"You're making a promise to a dragon." Stoick replied but she knew the dragon cared for the rider. As she looked at the rider, she felt something familiar about him.

Later

"This is crazy Valka. He's a stranger with a dragon for Thor's sake. Why is he here?" Stoick asked his wife after she tucked Frida in bed. Valka has defended the young man and his dragon while the rest of Berk wanted it killed. The boy slept in a tent while his dragon slept outside. No one knew how a young man like him could control such a beast.

"I don't know Stoick, but he was hurt and he could solve our problems." Valka answered.

"Ah, you think he could make peace with the beasts." Stoick remarked as Valka entered their bedroom.

"Yes. But there is something about him that intrigues me. He reminds me of Hiccup." Valka replied and Stoick hugged his wife.

"I know it's hard, but he will return to us one day. He is the strongest of them all." Stoick promised as kept his wife in his arms.

Next Morning

Koll woke up to find that he was in a tent. He got up and walked outside. Instantly Toothless licked the Rider. Koll laughed as he pet his best friend. Then he noticed her. A blonde girl sharpening her axe from the top of a rock. She glared at him and he got the message that she wanted to kill him and his dragon. Koll waved at her and she jumped off the rock. Toothless growled and Hiccup stood in between the two. "Hey I'm Koll and this is my friend."

"Don't care. Just be glad the Chieftess took pity on you both." the woman replied sharply.

"Okay, understandable. You hate dragons and those who care for them." Koll remarked petting Toothless who stopped growling.

"Come on. The Chief wanted to see you right away." the girl replied before walking away. Koll and Toothless followed. When they reached two towering doors, the woman turned to him. "Leave that thing out here."

"Let me guess, no trusts the dragon." Koll asked and received death glares. "Okay, Toothless stay. I'll be fine. For now." Koll said and the dragon circled around and lay down. The Rider turned to the woman. She opened the doors and the two entered a large room where many Vikings were gathered, staring down at Koll. At the far end of the room stood a large man with a red beard with a tall women next to him and a little girl he assumed was their daughter.

"I am Stoick the Vast. Chief of Berk. Now tell me who you are?" Stoick asked.

"I am Koll." he answered nervously.

"Why are you here and riding one of those beasts?" Stoick asked sharply.

"I didn't mean to land here, I was escaping my adoptive father. As for Toothless, he's my best friend." Koll replied.

"Toothless?" a Viking from the crowed asked.

"Yeah that thing had lots of teeth!" another Viking remarked.

"He has retractable teeth. Trust me surprised me the first time I met him." Koll said.

"Enough!" Stoick yelled wanting to get back to the subject. "Who is your adoptive father and why were you fleeing from him."

"My father was a cruel man. He took me from my family when I was a baby. I left him to find my family." Koll answered.

"And how were you planning on finding them?" Stoick's wife asked.

"I have a medallion with their crest in my pack." Koll answered.

"Where is this pack?" Stoick asked.

"On Toothless's saddle." Koll replied and the Chief looked at his wife and they both nodded.

"Astrid get the pack." Stoick ordered.

"How am I post to get something from that dragon?" the blonde woman asked.

"Toothless is peaceful. All you have to do is grab it. Just don't have any weapons on you and don't be too fast." Koll remarked and the woman punched his gut. "Should have seen that coming." he added as Astrid walked away. He didn't know if she would listen to him. But when she returned with his pack he opened it and reached inside. But he felt a hole. Looked on the outside to see a hole caused by a stray arrow. He went to his knees and dumped the bag out. Koll frantically searched the items, but the medallion.

"What is it?" Stoick asked as Astrid picked up the bag.

"There's a hole." she reported and Koll's world broke down. He just lost everything he had of his family.

"It's gone. It must have fall out during my escape." Koll remarked and he just stared at his belongings. It was just some paper, pens, bread, and jerky. Nothing that mattered to Koll.

"Astrid lead Koll out while we discuss what to do. Fishlegs collect his belongings." the Chief ordered and Koll was escorted out of the room. Once outside, he sat on a rock. Toothless put his head on the Rider's lap.

"Thanks bud." Koll said knowing his family was lost to him.

"Sorry about your medallion." Astrid remarked and Koll turned his head.

"Thanks. Didn't expect that from you." he replied.

"You might be a dragon lover, but no one should not know who their family is." she remarked as he pet Toothless.

"We can't just throw him out. He has no family and he may be able to help us with the dragons." Valka said to the Berk Council. While the rest of the Vikings left, Stoick, Valka, Frida, Gobber, Spitelout, Sven, Bucket, and Mulch stayed behind.

"We also don't know who that boy is and he has a dragon." Sven remarked.

"Yes he has a dragon. It hasn't tried to kill him. It actually tried to protect him. Don't you think that we should know how he did it?" Valka asked.

"Val I know this boy reminds you of our son, but there is much danger when it comes to dragons. This Dragon Rider is worse." Stoick remarked.

"But if there was a chance he could stop the raids, isn't that worth the risk?" Gobber asked in support of Valka. Stoick sighed.

"Fine let's vote. Should we allow this stranger to aid us or let him go?" Stoick asked and the only one who voted against the aid was Spitelout.

"Then it decided. He stays to help." Valka remarked.

"Yes, but he will be in the woods. Not the village." Stoick added before the meeting was adjourned.

Okay so a few quick things, one is that the reason didn't recognize Hiccup like she did in HTTYD 2 was because he didn't have his scar because he was taken before the raid where Valka was taken. Two I am trying to set up a way for a QandA, more on that at a later date. Three is that I recommend leaving reviews. Because thanks to reviews I have gotten better I think and it helps with major critical errors as I learned with my Godzilla/Pacific Rim story. Four, Russia is still attacking Ukraine and losing. In a few months, Russia lost thousands of men, hundreds of tanks and aircraft, and several naval warships. I plead to any Russian readers, protest against Putin's war. Stop the bloodshed and genocide.
